- Опубліковано 26 чер 2014
- Eric Clapton, playing live at the Hartford CT Civic Center, on May 1st, 1985. It's from Behind The Sun tour. Song's called Let It Rain.
Lineup:
"Duck" Dunn - bass
Jamie Oldaker - drums
Tim Renwick - guitar
Eric Clapton - guitar
Chris Stainton - keyboards
Marcy Levy & Shaun Murphy - backing vocals
//////Lyrics:
The rain is falling through the mist
Of sorrow that surrounded me.
The sun could never thaw away
The bliss that lays around me.
[Chorus:]
Let it rain, let it rain,
Let your love rain down on me.
Let it rain, let it rain,
Let it rain, rain, rain.
Her life was like a desert flower
Burning in the sun.
Until I found the way to love,
It's harder said than done.
[Chorus]
Now I know the secret;
There is nothing that I lack.
If I give my love to you,
You'll surely give it back.
[Chorus]
Enjoy!
That Strat sounds GREAT. I know all my old friends from the Cream days will disagree but that Fender sure sounds fantastic here.
Gotta admire how there weren’t any gimmicks no funny clothes no side show, just a guy in a t shirt.
Good musicians/singers don't need any side show..naked women .. or whatever. Singers sing... Pop shit needs naked women.. lol
@@tarotdonna1 amen brother
Just good music
His druggie days ended before this tour.
C Taylor The way it should be!
I really love this version, a lot beefier than the 70's recording, especially the drums - and the solos!!!
Why I dive not see Clapton live in these days I will never forgive myself for.
Me too. He's on his last tour this year and I'm flying to see him somewhere.
Donald "Duck" Dunn, one of the best that was out there on the bass 😎🤙
@Jethro Tull he said in interview that Eric was the best he ever played with.
Maybe, but this version is downright tame compared to Derek and the Dominos version Live at Fillmore
I didn't know that! He was with the Blues Brothers! 🍺😲👍
You are correct sir !
YES!
I first heard this song on the Album Eric Clapton at his Best in 1970. Yhey weren't kidding .
Playing with a clean sound, no effects to hide behind, Eric shows what a great technique and feel he has.
This is one of my favorite solos. It is beautiful.
Every I hear Eric Clapton play, it brings tears to my eyes.
I really enjoy moments when the band gives him full reign to sing as he really wishes, especially in the beginning. I mean the best part of any clapton show is his killer slow hand solos but it is great to see an amazing backing band laying it down- solid as a rock- so a legend can be a legend without the distraction of carrying the whole musical output on his back
instablaster.
Nothing in Rock+Roll is better than this song...NOTHING! My Fav Clapton song ever...! I did my 1st(and ONLY..you only need to do it once!) tab of LSD at a Clapton concert during THIS song in the 8o's...When the lights panned out in the audience like little raindrops of LIGHT...I MELTED into that LIGHT and got SO high + BLISSFUL...no words can suffice..and Im still high till this very day!! From a "Flower Child" of the 60's Peace LOVE BLISSSSssssssssssssssssssss....
Clapton kills it in this version!!!!! He put it all out there that night.
Yeah, it is a shitty 80's pop song. I should have been more specific. I was speaking of Clapton's skill on the guitar from like 3:30 on to the end. Didn't George Harrison also record this song?
And you ARE REDUNDANT.
@Blaine Konkel This song is from 1970.
the best song in the history of mankind ..if you can understand its blissful MESSAGE...however most un-enlightened people have the "mindset" of neanderthal "apes"...this is for people who are AWAKE + AWARE ...not for idiots!
he let old "Blackie" let loose that night!
Underrated, needs more views. No one else can make a guitar sing like that!
no one
Favorite Clapton song of all time
Me too😊
GOD BLESS ERIC CLAPTON! AND Let him be healthy & secure forever till he meets you, oh LORD JESUS.
One of my most ardent wishes is that I die before Eric Clapton. I can't imagine a world without him. And when [if!] I go to Heaven, I hope that eventually I'll meet Clapton and be able to listen to him sing and play his guitar for all eternity! 😇
great memories seeing my ol' childhood friend Jamie Oldaker behind the drums doing his thing. RIP dude... you were one of the best.
Great comment Surfin. Your friend was one of the greats
how old when he passed?
@@mustangmikep51 Jamie was 67. He was married but had no children. Cancer caught up with him.
@@gmb858 Im 67 now...and I beat cancer....we are just passing through here...make the best of it...it is said the 2 most important days of your life are the day u are born and the day you find out WHY ! Peace.
He sure was
"Let it Rain" is yet one my FAV Clapton ongs, along with 178 others , ...... like White Room, Can't Find My Way Home, Pretending, Hard Times, Bad Love, Running on Faith, etc, etc, etc......
kirk von Nordstrom Can't Find My Way Home was written by Stevie Winwood; other than that, I agree with you!
This song means more to me than anything you can imagine.....incredibly powerful and beautiful...its not of this world...its frickin AWESOME!!!!!!!
Middle and closing solo's on this are perfection
Every time I hear Eric Clapton play, I just swoon.
He kills it between 3:30 and 4:04. and again between 4:40 to 5:24. Love EC during this time period. He was at his best technically and vocally.
lol no he wasn't. technically he was at his best between 1989- 1995 then 2004 -2005 then 2009 till about 2013. before that his real prime was cream.
Bob Bob dance dance dance Bob smartty pants
@@andymccallum8090 , absolutely correct. His from the cradle shows and the Martin Scorsese documentary nothing but the blues featuring EC from the Fillmore in the mid nineties may be the finest display of blues playing and vocals ever laid down.
Morrison Derek and the dominoes live at the filmore 1970 was a hole another level to anything my favourite playing by clapton ever
Ridiculous solo
The best version of this song, loved the way Eric Clapton plays the slo hand solo. Legendary blues singer. Thank you for sharing this amazing video
Broke my concert virginity that night. Now at 60-70. Lost count. Heard an audience tape. AWESOME!!
pure JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is the stuff for sure.........
Written and recorded during a break recording LAYLA. Duane Allman played guitar on the original recording. Amazing.
Allman did not play on this song. The studio version was recorded early 1970. Allman joined in on the Layla album on side two with “I am Yours”
Awesome to see and hear Jeff porcaro on tour with clapton
The drummer is Jaimie Oldaker, not Jeff Porcaro.
The Derek and Doms version is fantastic. And his original studio version with Leon Russell on piano is Great.
I haven't heard the Derek version.
Leon Russel makes everything Better
The Derek live version seems to have Winwood on backing vocal. Beautiful.
The full live version is the best recording of this song ever, Eric was on fire and Carl Raddle? On drums was out of this world amazing
if I were on a desert island and could only pick up 1 song on the radio...it would be THIS 1!!!!!!!! Sheer Blissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
this is the real deal wow just wow!
what a title the god of rock,. not a btel or a stone. or a skydog , it must be amazing to be the total god of rock as he is. even the queen could not understand him. otherwise he would have been a knight. sir Eric
Musicians!
Take note! This how it’s done! Enjoy!
What an Awesome song! Great guitar playing, as Always!
Oh that the 1980s could have kept their dirty hands off of this classic. Great vocals and musicianship, but the sped-up tempo robs it of all soul and feeling, giving it that ultra-danceable, fun 80’s rockpop feel.
Totally agree. The original tempo is much better, but this isn’t too bad either haha
Soaring melody on a fantastic night for slowhand. Beautiful beyond words.
if people would only hear the message along with the music. this would be a better place to live right now.
well put Liz......love and light to you and yours....Let it
RAIN......LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm soaking wet with LOVE after that mindblowing song...Let it rain all over me! God I miss the 60's!!!!!! we all need a little rain(love) in our life...it makes us GROW! Namaste.
Billy Preston and Bobby Whitlock would be proud of the keyboards. RIP Billy.
Happy Birthday Eric🎂🎉🎸💙
Duck Dunn on bass! Cool.
Love it. The album back tracking takes you on a journey.
This is as it gets folks...enjoy....
Clapton rules😁😄
Love the way EC chuckled at Dick before starting the solo. That devious smile.
Clapton is a killer 🙏🙏
This was a great album and a great tour!
the clapton song I like most - especially as performed on his rainbow concert
Slow hand....whatever, looks magical
love this version / era of EC and the tone of his guitar and voice. My favorite era of EC
I agree. He hit his peak during that 10-15 years or so.
Totally agree. The last appearance of his great Strat tone. Soon after this he was playing that signature Clapton Strat with that neutered tone-the Clapton Armani suit era.
Totally agree Herb. Eric was clean and sober after having gone through rehab, and this band was incredible. Duck Dunn on bass, Jamie Oldaker on drums etc. I loved the 1985 tour. Just amazing shows night after night.
A fantastic song.
listen to that bass in mono.
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great song 🎉love you for ever eric❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
great song! Eric rock on!
CLAPTON IS GOD
so is everybody else.... Namaste.
@@mustangmikep51 I like what you said. Here is a Namaste on that note to ya!
Uncle Eric kicks ass! 🍺😎👍
Show me a current artist or artists who could produce live music like this again!
I love go stargazing with you!!!

Until I found the way to love, it's harder said than done
Now I know the secret, there is nothing that I lack
If I give my love to you, you'll surely give it back 😍😎🤠
Did Badge transition into this song on the song list? talk about hitting it out of the park!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Double whammy!
Awesome
It's okay, but you should hear the live Derek and the Dominoes version. You'll forget all about this guitar solo when you hear that one. I loved his guitar sound then; this sounds to thin, at least to my ears. The D&D version also features a great drum solo by Jim Gordon, followed by a song-ending double-speed Clapton solo. Also, another great solo on that album can be found in the song Why Does Love Got to be So Sad (the first song on the album). You'll understand then why he sent so many aspiring guitarists to the woodshed in those days.
Marc Weeks you are correct D&D live version is incredible!
My Lord Marc, do you know how many times I have told people of EXACTLY these solos? They are some of the finest moments of rock guitar in history. The shredding first lead of Why Does Love... is freaking stunning for its speed and technical virtuosity,, and then the final solo is so soothing. Gorgeous. 2 absolutely classic solos there that rival Crossroads any day. And then the long solo in Let it Rain I can't even begin to describe to people - they have to put on headphones and close their eyes. It wails and soars over the rest of the band pushing Clapton higher and higher, and then the close out double time solo - I don't know how they all kept up with each other - but then Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, and Jim Gordon were all masters as well. Clapton and Whitlock have a raw, raspy energy that I think is fantastic. When they finish and Bobby goes "Whooooaaaa!!!" the crowd goes absolutely berserk. I think that D&D In Concert is every bit as good as Allman Bros Live at Fillmore or The Who Live at Leeds. Take a listen people - you will be amazed.
In case you haven't, listen to the outtake version (generally shows up as ~17:45 here), where Bobby just lights up the Hammond. Doesn't have *quite* the guitar work of the other Fillmore version, but the key really push it over the top.
@@WhizzingFish12you sir are correct. You mention the two best live songs ever recorded. The best short lived four man band in the world. Would have given anything to be at those Fillmore concerts. Cheers…
@@jeffreycolvin9124 And to you! I first heard In Concert 40 years ago (1983 when I became friends with a bunch of Deadheads freshmen year in college, lol) and still listen to those two songs about every couple of months. They still boggle every time, even literally hundreds of listenings later. People who say Clapton is overrated and wasn't that great of a guitarist have never heard these songs.
Blackie ❤️
Donal Duck Dunn on bass!
Music in excelsis.
❤️
face melting commences at 3:00
Good
Looks like Duck Dunn and Jeff Pocaro here. Am I correct? If so, I’m not surprised. Eric always hunted down the best of the best.
Jamie Oldaker - not Jeff
😍
I'm guessing he found out how reliable that philosophy is.
Making that guitar SING /
Blackie has so much more bite than his more modern Strats.
Yes! I saw this tour at Red Rocks and Blackie took a bite out of all of us. It definitely cut way above the mix. My ears are still ringing. Best night of music ever (well maybe with the exception of the 95 Cradle tour).
Not sure any guitarist I’ve heard has better tone than Clapton had…
That was in the spectrum In Philly, tour of the sun 1985

Behind The Sun tour I think
Eric Clapton, playing live at the Hartford CT Civic Center, on May 1st, 1985.
Love interaction better Eric and Duck
I saw this tour. Clapton never sounded so good! His band was so tight. Donald “Duck” Dunn holding down the groove with drummer Jamie Oldaker. Chris Stainton doing an amazing job on keyboards. Not to mention Tim Renwick on guitar just slamming it with E.C. Also don’t overlook the ladies Marcy Levy & Shaun Murphy who each got to sing a song on this tour. Shaun Murphy went on to sing with Little Feat from 1993-2009. The only issue is, I wish that the person who put this up had put up “Badge” as it segues into “Let It Rain” flawlessly. It was truly the high point of the concert. For those who want to hear it, ua-cam.com/video/Ov-fNvf-uCA/v-deo.html
Love wipeyourownass! Hilarious!!!
I meant Great
EC always has the coolest bands..is that Dick Wagner on 2nd guitar?
just jeph No, it is Tim Renwick.
Lead guitar is satans sword it stabs you in the heart
queen elsa:let it go
the beatles:let it be
D&TD/EC/let it rain
Brilliant solos even with the thin tone he is getting from the strat setup. Straight through the amp no effects. Nothing like the shite you get these days. Even in the metal world their sound is effects led rather than feel and ability led. Take it down to basic acoustic playing, who would be better? Your thoughts?
ill never forget calling out sick in high school trying ot call and buy tiks,,, yeah right,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Cheer Star Trek Bio
Who is that on drums ? Almost looks like Jeff pocaro
Is That Jeff Porcaro On Drums?
stretchgilbert jamie oldaker
This must be during a transition. Unusual to see Porcaro and Dunn together.
I guess it is Oldaker. Just the glasses.
@@ShockRock2000 Jamie Oldaker. RIP
Somebody please confirm for me: is that my old friend Jeff Porcaro on drums?
Apparently not. My bad. But Jeff & I were from Hartford originally, sooo....
Jamie Oldaker - drums
Thanks
@@Rich915
I thought he had Phil Collins on this tour? Or was that the Journeyman Tour? Great show went to them both!
Shreve Soule this is Jamie Oldaker. I’m not sure but wasn’t Journeyman - Steve Ferrone. Neither PC
BEHIND THE SUN BAND (March - December 1984)
Eric Clapton (guitar / vocals), Phil Collins (drums / percussion / vocals), Donald “Duck” Dunn (bass), Jamie Oldaker (drums), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Peter Robinson (synthesizer), Ray Cooper (percussion), Marcy Levy (vocals), and Shaun Murphy (vocals)
Don’t remember Ray Cooper being on the tour happy to be corrected
Shreve Soule Tim Renwick on guitar too. EC alluded that Tim was too good!!! Probably my fave line up
Clapton if he's not God or Jesus , he's dam sure Peter or Paul , hahahahahahaha
I know I'm getting old but is this his song ????? Lmao
Yes he wrote it
😂
too fast....
Great band, but not the best version..too rushed
Weeks, its ok? Quit comparing versions of songs! Different band and time.....Yes the Dominos version was great, but to say this is ok is laughable..your weak!
This just does not have the energy of the Dominos.
Damn - that drummer needs to lay off the crack! He's playing this WAAAAY too fast! CHILL OUT, Dude!
I don't like this perfomance because it seems like a Church Chorus I miss the rocker Clapton
Everyone can have an opinion and write it down - even if it's absolutely bullshit
Bullshit add....i paid 4000 dollars less in taxes less year on higher income than the previous year. I'm a maintenance guy.....as blue collar as it gets. Tax refunds are not the barometer people. Look at total taxes paid.
Kind of a crappy version.
