If you think these guys are killer it's because they are members of Alan Parsons Live Project sans Alan. This summer (2011) they're touring with the Happy Together tour with the Grass Roots, Association, Buckinghams, Mark Lindsay, and the Turtles. If you ever saw them with Alan Parsons, you'd be blown away. What great talents!
Nice lead at the end. Almost as good as mine! Nice vocals throughout! Harmonies nice and tight! Nice representation of an all time classic song! Job well done!
GREAT JOB. Vocalist might want to double check some of the lyrics, but everybody did true justice to one of Clapton's best. NICE guitar solo-I'll be working on this one real soon!!!
Some people don't feel that ANY other player is comparable to the original singer/artist/writer but one glorious thing about music is how it is open to interpretation, like any art. The Godfrey Townsend Band rocks this song and I'm sure that they consider their version an homage to Clapton, done with respect for his work. Arguing who is better is pointless. Replaying, reinterpreting, or "covering" another person's iconic music should be considered the sincerest form of flattery. It helps keep the original singer's discography alive in people's minds, perhaps enough to search out the original on iTunes or Amazon.
At three thirty five, you say it so clear, so strong, very tasty. I played that part over and over, man. Got the kind of squeal, pleading call of the wild, tamed by The Rain, Let It Rain, man, in notes that really are the voice of humanity and they can't all play like that. It's a big responsibility. You hit it good, man. Peace.
dragonflyblu02: I've seen clapton live recently..lets not push it. When he did "Badge" I almost cried. It was THAT Pure. These guys are very good though.
otherwise, excellant rendition, good vocals, gtr, bass, & drums & keys great.. give us more. how about, "why does love got to be so sad" & "bell bottom blues.."
I'll never forget the statement that Godfrey sounds more like Clapton than Clapton does. Though Clapton is one of the greatest, Godfrey also is a brilliant guitarist and very good on vocals. 😊
@twodux77: This is not a philosophical debate regarding artistic interpretation. This is a labeling issue. Maybe you're right. Maybe there should be a format that includes the writer as well as the performer but for all intents and purposes that would still exclude cover bands from my search. BAND NAME/ARTIST - TITLE - WRITER (e.g. Eric Clapton - Let It Rain - Bramlett/Bramlett/Clapton). Nothing against this particular group of musicians.
@Algorhythmiq Yah, I hate watching those fakes the Beatles covering Chuck Berry songs such as Roll Over Beethoven or those copycats The Byrds and Jimi Hendrix singing Bob Dylan songs. And don't get me started on Eric Clapton covering Bob Marley songs........
There should be a completely different section for You Tube cover bands. Every title in this section should start with a differentiation (e.g. "COVER - Clapton - Let it Rain"). Simply put, it's not my intention to watch a facsimile of the artist(s) I'm searching for - regardless of how close you may come to sounding like the people you are not. Be yourselves or label your work accordingly.
