It will be missed. It's attraction was all about that exit from the tunnel to the wide open landing pads and view of Crusader. A guaranteed wow moment in game.
I remember being a backer before Port Olisar was in the game. Once it was, you could basically just run around. I felt in awe being on a landing pad. It made me remember being a kid and thinking what it would be like being a Gundam or Robotech pilot in space.
I started my journey there eight years ago. I’ve been on a year long break. Seeing my home gone, replaced by a station that offers no emotional connection, an empty shell of what it once was. I cannot help but tear up from the best memories that I had connected to Port Olisar. Goodbye old friend, you will always be remembered.
When I first started playing (just over a year ago), I experienced several Prime moments in "Star Citizen". The first time I logged into the game, I pressed "Y" to get out of bed in New Babbage, clipped through the wall of the Aspire Grand, and fell to my death. Welcome to Alpha. As an explorer, the first thing I wanted to do was see the sights of Stanton. I found an article that mentioned Olisar was the first station in the game. Having barely familiarized myself with flying coupled and navigating quantum jumps, I set off to see it. It was the most majestic thing I have seen in the game, and cemented my love of "Star Citizen". I stood on a landing pad, my Aurora behind me and the horizon of Crusader laid out before me as I stared past the tireless circulation of Olisar's rings. In that moment, I realized that this was the closest I would ever get to leaving Earth. This was the closest approximation to such an experience that I would ever get. I got chills. I called my family in to behold the spectacle. It was a perfect moment. We were all in awe with the sight and the power of this game. Port Tressler is the first station I ever visited. I learned much lore and spent a lot of time researching before I bought my game package. I prefer microTech for many reasons, and so it was--along with its station--my introduction to the game. However, Port Olisar is the station I have spent the most time on and around. It's like a gravity well. It seems a lot of the player base congregate there. It still feels like the hub of the game. It's a popular meeting point. Its stores could provide almost everything needed to pursue gameplay. In recent months, I have spent hours salvaging the many wrecks that accumulate around its rings. I've used it to escape bounty hunters. I've spent hours just admiring the views it offers. There are a host of reasons for Olisar to depart. I will mourn its absence. I hold out hope that CIG will give it new life in a meaningful way that provides a touchstone for future generations of players. I look forward to its return and the new vistas we can enjoy from its decks and viewports.
The great starting point, where we could watch the vastness of space, get the true feeling of the scale exiting the landing pads. The bane of the newbies, as they tried to take off and ended crashing against the station, you will never be forgotten T.T
Yes, going to miss PO a lot. No elevators, a lobby that was not a copy/paste version of the other stations, all the essential shops right around the central lobby... And lots of landing pads.
It was the views from Port O's pads that made me fall in love with this game. Just standing on a pad looking up at Crusader made you feel so small and really sold the Idea that you are just a small fish in a big universe. By comparison the hangers feel so claustrophobic and don't sell Star Citizen (not talking money but the feeling).
Darn Crusader commercials where the damndest part of PO, that grew old quick but damn am I gunna miss Big Ollie for just being a practical no-nonsense port, with NO DARN ELEVATORS!
By far my favourite station. I remember when they introduced the Reclaimer, I went out of the airlock, went to the landing pad and there was this behemoth of a ship someone spawned in 😀. Also loved that you had to constantly watch out for traffic when landing and taking off.
We should petition CIG to save PO! Perhaps move it to the Stanton / Pyro jump point as an unmanned rest station (most Americans will know what I'm talking about, but for those who don't - they are small buildings with a lot of parking spaces, bathrooms & vending machines). PO would be PERFECT for this role due to its current lack of amenities! As someone who played a lot of SC, PO could be essentially a monument to the OG backers of the game (and OG devs who created it!)
PO was always a nice place to land and gear up. I like landing pads at stations and wish the game would let you choose whether you wanted a pad, hangar or docking station.
PO was a really good station... It gave so much memories to so much people, was the only station that gave you a true view of orbit and an access to spacewalk without using a ship it's a really sad moment for this game. Long Live Olisa
@@Farrister Olisa is just what made this game this game, sadly after 3.20 releases the only station you can live in that won't be generic is GrimHex, and we must protect it
A promising 'detail' is that Port Olisar was not upgraded but the station is now Seraphim, implying PO is still to be its own station ... somewhere. Maybe even becoming a whole class of micro truck stops. - It is not even functionally a problem with spawn hangar tech because it is not meant to store ships but to offer pads for parking ships. And should the pads not suffice in rare cases, one can always park aside of them and float over. This station type could become a lovely social hub for events. The difference between PO and current R&R stations is a good exemplary contrast for small-scale comfort vs. large scale coldness. (Something even some rich people appreciate for their homes.) I just feel like walking through a container conglomerate, probably sensing the procedurally assembled nature of the internal layout. And of course how every station follows the same approach. 6:06 Definitely less cringy than "Remember: Your personal belongings belong to YOU." BTW, somehow I often heard "Ready to shit your perspective?", probably due to a sound glitch at some point, and it stuck and couldn't be unheard. 😅 I also loved to park my M50 right in front of an observation window, with headlights on. (You can raise the appeal of pretty much any place in the 'verse - just add M50.)
Actually in the beginning it was just Olisar and a few points of interest in space... no moons... They were added later but at first they were just static images that had a few points of interest around them in space. Actually being able to fly down to the surface came much later. The first iteration was just Olisar and one or two points of interest close by... One was a Comm Sat if I remember correctly... very small compared to SC today.
Standing on the pads at sunrise and sunset over Crusader are some great images they added when they moved PO closer to the planet. Always loved landing here. Used to love flying through the rings before that became deadly. It will be missed.
Excellent video showing Port Olisar. Like many of the early players, I too have fond memories of PO. Of course, it was the first place I spawned into the game in one of those dinky habs. Pulling up my first ship was exciting and fun. Of course, as you said, there were the pad rammers that tried to make life hard, especially for new players like me at the time. I was glad when we were able to land on the moons, and later the rest of the system planets and moons. I still keep PO in my heart and will miss her when she's replaced. I've seen videos of her destroyed through both a Van Duul attack and falling out of orbit. Both would be a shame. Fortunately, I have a hologram of the station that I will keep for posterity, thanks to subsctiber flair. Thanks, for taking us down memory lane Farrister. This is a video to remember. Take care my friend, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.
I know the ads get memed on a lot, but I like them a lot. I started the game a bit more than a year ago, on Crusader, and I stopped and listened to that ad as I was walking around taking in the sights. I guess I might find it annoying eventually if I had a few more years, but for now it's just a pleasant ambience to listen to in Olisar.
I knew it needed a remake, but the new station is just a copy/paste of other stations. They even admitted that the access to the pads was cool, and didn't even consider adding them lol.. Pad ramming isn't a huge issue, and it's not like it doesn't exist in hangars too. You can find a lot of pad ramming in hangars, I've seen a lot of it at Grim Hex.
My only memorable time at Olisar was when me and some org mates stopped by to change out our ship because the Carrack's elevator's had all bugged. I tried to keep folks entertained by dancing on the holo table when suddenly one of the boys drove into the station in a PTV and started careening around the room😂. He eventually parked it vertically on a wall when we had to leave.
The number of times I got lost trying to get to my ship!! But for me, the best memory was EVA from ship to pad to deliver a package to the RIGHT strut!!
Olisar might not be anything special. But it was where the oldest of us all started. Back when all we got to play was Turning on and off Commlinks. But I think its replacement (However long it is) will be a good thing. A show of how far the game has come.
I feel like CIG doesnt understand the reason why everyone loves port olisar. And now theyve replaced it with exactly what most players loved port olisar for not being.
I wish theyd keep it in game but add the other station and take it out of geosynchronous orbit of orison. Maybe years from now turn it into a museum with the original ships to tour on the landing pads like the museum station in Picard season 3
