The Caterpillar has tractor beams and is more of a freighter while the C2 is more of a vehicle mover. I think the Cat is gonna have much faster load times when that's introduced. Additionally cargo mass isn't implemented, ships always have the same mass. I think the C2 flies like it's empty, the Caterpillar flies like it's fully laden.
Yea it is strange the C2 flies better fully loaded than even the Cat empty. But I agree, the Cat should be super quick to load (especially given its twin tractor beams). Although I'm hoping the open cargo bay on the C2 remains relatively snappy to load as well!
If not using for piracy and up to when modularity is a thing, C2 is far superior to trade alone, not to mention the vehicle transport capability I love the passion in the description of each ship =D
For Utility you can add that the C2 can carry 2 of any of the biggest vehicles in the game with more room for other med/small vehicles. This should raise its utility score and fun of use. It's acceration is also great for getting you out of dodge when hauling.
If you want to be freight hauler only, then the C2 is the ticket. If you want to be freight hauler and have many other game play loops with one ship, then a Caterpillar might be the better option.
This was very generous of you I think dude... I tried and tried and tried some more to like the Caterpillar. It's just so cool! But if you have to get in it, or drive it, or man a turret in a hurry, or land it, nothing is comparable to the C2. The Drake, as always, is really nice on a postcard but fall well short in every pragmatic measure. Currently. I'm still allowing for tractor beams and cargo doors that go all the way to the ground and modularity and straight-up cool factor to keep the Cat on the table for future play but no way does it compete in the current game.
Yea the Cat is sadly lacking atm, but I'm really hoping with the introduction of its modules, the ship will really come alive; and what I based these points off of!
I was a Cat owner, and CCU'd it to the C2. Once the Cat gets modules (promised years ago) I might pick it up again. If they implement loading times as discussed then the CAT will be faster to load and unload with multiple doors. But the Cat already has issues taking off, once cargo weight is added and different planets have different gravities, the Cat may have issues getting off some planets when fully loading give the edge back to the C2. If we ever get the command pod can detatch and connect to another hulk that would give a win to the cat
Yea sadly the Cat is just a worse ship in the game currently. I'm sure it'll come alive after modules and being able to detach its cockpit, but it just lacks in pure hauling atm!
U may actually re-consider that the C2 will be faster to load. It can hold 32SCU crates, whereas the Cat is limited to the 16 SCU. IF they ever widen the ship 1 foot, then ull be able to get 32 scu crates in it though.
the Caterpillar turrets can fire 360 degrees, while the C2 has a rear turret limit. C2 is more exposed to winds at the moment (it can be blown away at the most inopportune moment, even with the engines turned off). Has the lift at C2 been fixed? Or is he just trying to fly away and kill the pilot?
That's a good point, the angles are quite a bit better on the Cat! And thankfully I've had no issues with my C2 recently, but your mileage may vary haha
Not sure if you have tried looting the C2 salvage missions in 3.21 or not. But some of the big cargo boxxes found in thoughs missions are way to big to fit inside The caterpillars individual cargo compartments. Im starting to think large open cargo bays like that of the C2 are the way forward .
I love my Pirate Edition Caterpillar. The C2 is kind of clumsy, it likes to peck the ground, other than that it looks great and hauls a mind-bending amount of cargo.
For the small difference in cargo capacity and the huge difference in price I would definitely choose the Caterpillar. Still if money isn't an issue, then of course choose the C2.
In 3.24 the Caterpillar becomes a good trader. You get your boxes from the ship and are sure that the C2 has to open the ramp and everyone can walk in. It's not that easy to get in with the Caterpillar
I think the Cat has better angles to aply dmg with the turrets. It looks like the C2 kann only bring 1-2 Turrets to hit the same Target. But im not sure if all Turrets of the Cat can fire forward direction.
Two ships I really Like, but I will only keep one: Caterpillar has less cargo but has the detatchable module, and modularity will be BIg (plus, its cheaper to buy). The C2 is a vehicle carrier with more cargo room, and a max crew of two (could easily be ran by a single pilot). Both have very different aetheticws, Elegance vs. industrial roughness (I like either). Caterpillar should be faster to load (in theory) with elevators, but the roo-=on-roll-off is nice on the C2. I'm likely to keep the Hercky bird, 'cause sexy factor :) but Caterpillar is one I always keep on my mind. C2 does have more firepower....
i had to get both unfortunately because i am keeping the cat as the best ship to load unload and king of efficiency but because i have tanks i require the lifter as well. i can 1 button open all doors and a crep of players from any direction can load the cat its much more limited front load and good load from rear really can slow things down when the cat gets working lift doors you can load a cat in a fraction of time. the cat will be able to move far more cargo. time is money and when i am on my second load as you are selling your first load on c2 so now the c2 wins but not to much longer and even today if im running missions or recovery with a team everyone working prefers the ease of cat
Caterpillar can provide acceleration better than you would expect? Maybe in space, but on a planet it could lose a drag race to a tortoise. Good luck getting over 150 in atmosphere. Don't get me wrong. I love the Caterpillar in nearly every aspect. Until I fly it. Needing to use the boost function to lift off from a hangar is ridiculous. The VTOL is completely inadequate, and landing is pretty much just a freefall requiring upwards thrust to keep the ship from pancaking itself on the deck. And then it has the missing engine Drake curse where the engines may/may not be replaced after repair and may/may not work even after an insurance claim.
It is unfortunate, because the Cat is an alluring ship that just draws you in, at every possible chance! And then you fly it and are just left a little disappointed haha. Hopefully a future balance pass and after the inclusion of modules it'll really regain some value again!
Can’t go wrong, if you want a Swiss Army knife for a ship the Caterpillar all day. More interested in a sleek and easy to fly ship that excels at what it was designed to do? C2.
The only issue I have with the cat besides the fact that I cannot put a vehicle in it is I wish I could open up the inside more since its very cramped lol
I have a Cat bought in game, and I just recently bought in game the C2. C2 Flies nice is faster, and has a nice large Quant tank. Compared to the Quant tank on a Cat. Sure the C2 holds more then the Cat. The cat has character, that the C2 just lacks I find. What's really fun, is when you load a Cat with a bunch of Fury's lol. I love both, but I'm missing my Cat as I fly and live in the C2
Sadly you jumped over the C2 with your Ironclad pickup! Although it’s looking like a fantastic ship. But if you were dead set you’d have to melt the Ironclad and start your chain over if you really wanted the C2 as you can’t upgrade down to a less expensive ship!
I adore Drake's designs. Piles of industrial scrap. For me, a spaceship shouldn't be clean-looking. It should look like it's been through something, seen something, stood the test of time.
Amen! I’m a huge fan of their ships too. Also, I don’t understand people that say Drake ships are rusty or dirty or cheaply built on the inside - if you want rusty and filthy interiors then get comfy in a Reclaimer. To me Drake is that practical, no-frills military ruggedness that looks like it means business. While it isn’t necessarily dressed to impress with sleek curves and fancy interiors, that doesn’t mean it’s filthy or cheap - it’s functional and the core of what is there is well-built using high quality materials. The exposed wiring and ducts means easy access for quick repairs. Drake interiors are what I expect the inside of a modern submarine or a brand new C-130 to look like in service with the US army, with some slightly differing colour palettes of course.
I think is the hardest desition ever i like c2 more 2 ramps elivator latter more cargo but still cat is way smaller but hold alot of cargo but downside it dosent take 32 only 16 and loading by hand you need to buy cargo size to fit the cattepilars cargo bay and you have 5 of them while c2 has one big space cargo layout simple and should load by hand faster solo but the cat is cool loking and i might change my mind when the mudularity cames out hope you can grow some illegal plants on and make alot of money
Trying to provide some constructive criticism. I am not sure this is a very effective buyer's guide. First of all it Compares C2 for what it is against what the Caterpillar could be. Then it has a lot of marketing terms that are more appropriate for CIG's own promotion of the ships rather than terms that tell players what to expect. Overall, I had a feeling that there was a bias in favour of the Caterpillar. One last mention because many are mentioning the Cat will load faster because it has tractor beams; the Cat will need to carry a lot more smaller boxes compared to the C2s fewer larger boxes. It may end up not being as quick as we think for this reason. Cheers!
Those are fair points! Sadly we don't have the finished Cat to compare with atm, but I think both ship will make strong options for anyone looking to haul in this class!

Salir de la atmósfera a 45mps no es mi pasión... jajajaja
We do have a lot of ideas, and they've done extensive work on this ship that's been showcased on the modules and its integration. Some things will change but its not going to be a complete redesign.

C2 can hold 32size cargo so that Means better autoloading time cat Will take bit longer to autoload
If not using for piracy and up to when modularity is a thing, C2 is far superior to trade alone, not to mention the vehicle transport capability
I love the passion in the description of each ship =D
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed my descriptions! And I agree, using its modularity (and piracy), the Cat is far superior!
For Utility you can add that the C2 can carry 2 of any of the biggest vehicles in the game with more room for other med/small vehicles. This should raise its utility score and fun of use. It's acceration is also great for getting you out of dodge when hauling.
That's very fair! The C2 has some seriously oversized hauling not just with ground vehicles but smaller ships as well!
If you want to be freight hauler only, then the C2 is the ticket. If you want to be freight hauler and have many other game play loops with one ship, then a Caterpillar might be the better option.
Absolutely agree! As a pure hauler, the C2 takes the win but the Cat will have so much more utility with its modules once introduced!
I want to prefer the caterpillar because of Drake, but it is hard to fight the statistics
The Cat wins the rule of cool for me too! Atm it's underpowered but I think with the introduction of its modules, it'll really take off!
This was very generous of you I think dude... I tried and tried and tried some more to like the Caterpillar. It's just so cool! They are both legends in my book, but the fun factor piloting the Cat edges it in the lead for me :)
It's true, they're both fantastic ships! And I agree, the Cat has a bit more soul to it than the C2!
Love my C2 tho I am looking forward to getting the whole Hull series
Congrats on your pickup, and good luck hauling in the Hull! Those cargo runs are going to have some huge payoffs!
Nice video, i bought the c2, thanks for all the info :) keep doing it we need it ❤
You're welcome, and thank you! And congrats on your pickup, the C2 is such a fantastic ship!

They're so unbelievably convenient!
I love my Pirate Edition Caterpillar. The C2 is kind of clumsy, it likes to peck the ground, other than that it looks great and hauls a mind-bending amount of cargo.
No, that’s the Hull C you’re talking about with mind bending amounts of cargo.
The C2 definitely has a tendency to nose dive, I have a habit of landing it as slowly as possible haha
For the small difference in cargo capacity and the huge difference in price I would definitely choose the Caterpillar. Still if money isn't an issue, then of course choose the C2.
That's a fair point! And while the C2 is a great ship now, the Cat is one that'll only continue to get better with time and more features!
Um, what's the difference in price? The Cat is 4.7mil, the C2 is 4.9mil...
In 3.24 the Caterpillar becomes a good trader. You get your boxes from the ship and are sure that the C2 has to open the ramp and everyone can walk in. It's not that easy to get in with the Caterpillar
I admire your style of speech and choice of words.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoy my content!
I'm using a C2 for now, once fully realized I think the Cat will be my preferred option.
I agree and think the Caterpillar will become almost an entirely different ship once its full feature set are implemented!
I think the Cat has better angles to aply dmg with the turrets. It looks like the C2 kann only bring 1-2 Turrets to hit the same Target. But im not sure if all Turrets of the Cat can fire forward direction.
I agree, the Cat definitely has the advantage in that regard and has both bigger guns and better angles.
Two ships I really Like, but I will only keep one: Caterpillar has less cargo but has the detatchable module, and modularity will be BIg (plus, its cheaper to buy). when the cat gets working lift doors you can load a cat in a fraction of time. the cat will be able to move far more cargo. time is money and when i am on my second load as you are selling your first load on c2 so now the c2 wins but not to much longer and even today if im running missions or recovery with a team everyone working prefers the ease of cat
Congrats on your pickups! And when in doubt, nothing wrong with getting both!

Perfect synopsis! The Cat is a multi-role titan but the C2 is pure hauling!
Looks wise I think the caterpillar just looks better
It’s the perfect, classic sci fi ship!
The only issue I have with the cat besides the fact that I cannot put a vehicle in it is I wish I could open up the inside more since its very cramped lol
Thankfully the Cat is supposed to have its side ramps go to the ground, but we're still awaiting that update!
The thing i like about the c2 i can use it as a bounty ship also. i put 2 AD5B on it and i can kill ERTs and get the cargo solo
With its pilot weapons and twin size 3 shields, the C2 is surprisingly capable!
@@ViciDeum Yea i got one in game i do ert with it solo. The caterpillar just flies so bad. the c2 flies great for its size. I put 2 AD5B on the c2
I love my Caterpillar, but I loathe the vertical thrusters, which can take several MINUTES of continuous thrust to get the ship up off the deck.
They really need to give the Cat a polish pass, atop adding its modules!
If you do cargo at that point get hull C
As long as you don't mind losing the extra multi-role capabilities of these two, I agree!
i feel like the caterpillar should have been given the scu edge, im hoping the segment swapping will change this
Yea the Cat is seriously underperforming its potential. It'll be a beast once fully implemented!
Dude props for responding to your community! That's subworthy.
Always! I couldn’t do this without the support from my amazing community 😁👍

The Cat has an undeniably appeal, but it is hard when compared to how good the C2 flies!
cat will get its use but atm the c2 is just better at everything
And a bit too good flying in atmospheres! But the Cat will have its day, although we may need to wait a bit longer first!
I upgraded to the ironclad and completely looked iver the c2 now hiw do i uograde to the c2 hah😅
Sadly you jumped over the C2 with your Ironclad pickup! Although it’s looking like a fantastic ship. But if you were dead set you’d have to melt the Ironclad and start your chain over if you really wanted the C2 as you can’t upgrade down to a less expensive ship!

For anyone wondering on the "number of boxes", someone on Discord was nice to do the math:
107 boxes for a caterpillar
42 for a C2
Those are fair points! Sadly we don't have the finished Cat to compare with atm, but I think both ship will make strong options for anyone looking to haul in this class!
Salir de la atmósfera a 45mps no es mi pasión... jajajaja
Jajaja, si el caterpillar es muy lento!
Hey guys hehebe the catepillar went from 8m to 12m
The battle pillar may look cool but the c2 can carry more of everything.
I do love the aesthetics of the Caterpillar but I agree, the C2 is the straight up better hauler!
Cat, all day.
It's got the rule of cool!
the cat need a rework the c2 is like 3-4 times heavier and flys like a dogfighter. Need to get nerfed
I agree, although the C2 is absolutely going to get a rebalance on its flight model/handling!
Shiny
Very shiny! At least the C2, the Caterpillars got a bit of grime...everywhere. But that's why we love it too!
C2. those VTOL's... oh right, and it's not drake nor assymetric.
Its such a fantastic ship, and a ridiculously good flyer!
too much text from chat gpt...
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy this video!
We dont know how the modularity of the catapillar will look like or how usefull it will be: there fore we rate ist 4.5 / 5.0 🫥
We do have a lot of ideas, and they've done extensive work on this ship that's been showcased on the modules and its integration. Some things will change but its not going to be a complete redesign.
