Agree about a warm neck! If my neck is cold I am cold, yuck! lol Simon is soooo cute with his new haircut and red outfit, what a hoot. Esme looks so content, they are camping dogs for sure. Enjoyed the look on Simon's face when you put the steak in his bowl and the pieces were too big, priceless. Very nice set up for the three of you! Thanks for sharing. :) :)

Great demos of all the gear, thank you. I'm going to look up that water flask and filter, very useful out here in the U.S. Southwest desert 🏜️ I recently came into possession of my great-grandfather's axe from when he was a lumberjack in Wisconsin (between 1890's and 1908). He had given it to my Aunt, (my mother's sister), and she gave it to me . . . I have yet to unwrap it and see what condition it's in, so your axe sharpening demonstration is useful, thanks! Cracked me up to see Simon take off when you mentioned the bed😆 That snowfall in the woods looks magical. Gorgeous night sky view!
Thanks for a great comment!! That's going to be very exiting to see your grandfather's axe!! Fantastic heirloom 👍 Simon loves just running around and protecting me from squirrels and birds 😄🐶
You and I have conversed before on the incredible flexibility of the Teton products. I spent 2 night in pouring rain sleeping like a baby with the Extra coverage ground length rain fly. Staking it out nicely made it dry as the desert! I wasn’t aware they made a two cot version of the tent. You are full of surprises. But I do t sleep with stinky dogs. 😂 I laughed out loud as you searched for the words while you enjoyed the 3 liter water sack. Glad you left that in. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Danny - They started selling the Vista 2 a few years ago and its a nice option for people who want to sleep together. I really think they should make a Vista 2.5 from the XXL cots for even more room inside 👍 I love this style of camping when transport permits 😉
Great looking camp there mate, a man after my own heart, vegetables are over rated! As for that axe for combat, it would be a close call for accuracy between that and an SA 🤣🤣🤣!
Simon: Dude, I wanted fajitas……😵💫 That’s an awesome setup. 👏👏👏👏 The longer fly is the way to go. It looks like the Jeep is working out for you. 👍🏻👉🏻🇺🇸🇬🇧🇨🇦👈🏻
That is a really slick set up for you and the dogs. I like it. I just grabbed myself a Teton pillow for camp.. I will be using it next weekend. Now I don’t have to remember to take mine from home which I always forget for some reason. Lol I’m gonna post a couple pictures on my Instagram page. I am still using my kamprite tent cot and loving it. I did some yard camping last weekend in it. Super cozy. I do believe that was the first video I ever watched of yours years ago. Always happy to see how you spoil those dogs... steak and a cozy warm bed and lots of love. Cheers Michael, your a good man.
Been hoping you'd do a video on this set-up. Now I'm jealous, seeing something other than that bright yellow available. I'm a fan of Teton, very good CS when I had an issue with mine, they replaced the whole tent, when I simply hoped for a new fiberglass pole. I'll head out camping for the first time this year at the end of the month. Excited.
Very nice tent/cot combination. Quite comfortable-looking. Dogs were fun. Has Esme gained weight, or is she just quite furry? The soft water container was very nice, as well. Good camp all-around!

Great to see you all out camping 🐶 🐶! Have you considered Catering College ? 😆 Great info on the water bottle, I will check it out for my thru hike! One of the benefits of the Nalgene is that it can also be used as a hot water bottle when it is 🥶.
At minute 8:29 after you put the fly on you sat down on the cot in the doorway. That's one of the big things I was interested in knowing, if you can sit on the edge like you did without your head hitting the top. It looks like you had room to spare, that makes me happy. Therefore I assume you can also sit inside without your head hitting the top? I'm 5' 7" (1701.8mm), but I don't know how tall you are. Lastly, I'm wondering how the tent holds up in a strong, gusty wind? Currently I use my Big Agnes Copper Spur UV UL2 for backpacking and it sways significantly in strong winds, which doesn't bother me as long as the poles don't break, but I'm curious about what to expect with the Teton 2. I also like car camping and really like the idea of being up off the ground so I don't have to crawl in and out of my tent on the ground. Great video, thanks
I'm 5'9" and can sit up in the tent no problem. I've used the TETON cot tents for many years in all 4 seasons in Canada and I have never had to guy line them down for wind. HOWEVER I don't get extremely strong winds with camping in the forests. I also have the Big Agnes Copper Spur UV UL2 (great tent) and the Vista 2 is much bigger! Being off the ground is a huge benefit, especially in the snow or mud. It's also easier to get in and out, great for less abled people. Hope that helps! 👍
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Thanks so much for the additional info, it helps greatly. And I love that you also have the BA UL2 for comparison. Obviously they each have a different purpose and they each have their own merits depending on the type of camping they're intended for.
Michael, Again, I am a big fan of your videos, and you are probably my favorite bushcraft UA-camr, as many of them seem pretentious. I really like the mood that you set. Thank you so much for making this video. I’ve been on the fence for a while now about the Vista 1 or Vista 2, and I think you have helped me decide that the Vista 2 is worth the extra bulk of having to use 2 cots. I two have 2 dogs, and well as a wife (who is not the biggest camping enthusiast), and I wanted something that I could use for either 1 or 2 person camping. The only solution that I could come up with was to buy both a Vista 1 and 2. I still may do this, but I think that now I’ll opt for the Vista 2 first. I have been communicating with Teton Sports as to whether they could design a tent that would work interchangeably with 1 or 2 cots, but nothing is planned as of yet. Perhaps if they received more people asking for something like that, it would help facilitate it being made.
Thanks so much for the comment!! I've often thought the same thing - I think they should make a "Super Elite" fly that covered 2 x Vista 1 setups 🤔 - Great idea!
Hello Michael esme and Simon it’s awesome seeing y’all. Thankyou Michael for a awesome new video we love watching your videos bub. Y’all all take care and be safe. Please give esme and Simon a treat. I been wanting to ask you Michael what engine is in your jeep?
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Thank you very much! I was just confused because my 2 pads have tied down points on each corner. Keep the videos coming. Thanks again
Nice move on the cutting of the steak for Simon but it went directly from the dog bowl to your steak , no what that’s about I’ve got two golden retrievers.
Hi JB, the Vista 1 is great for one person and the Vista 2 for 2 or 1 person and pets. I have the elite fly for both models and is necessary for heavy rain or snow. I still use and love these tents! 👍
Just check the size of the cot against the TETON universal ones - 85.5" x 35.5". I think Cabelas sells the same cot but in brown and it's the same size. They are also on sale sometimes 👍
Trying to find which cot you used for the vista q tent. I also have back problems. The cot did not support my back on the xxl Teton cot. Wondering about getting two pads to put on one cot. I will watch the video again to see if I can figure out which cot you use.
The Vista 2 uses 2 x standard TETON cots - I'd recommend the Klymitt Deluxe insulated mat and maybe the TETON foam mat if you like a soft bed. Try not to over inflate the mat so that it will conform to your body when you lie down 👍
Good question!! Depends on a few things - shape of the bag (mummy or square for more room - I find square are easier to keep warm), back packable or car camping and budget, low medium or high?
@@TangoCowabunga For the money the TETON FAHRENHEIT XXL -25ºF SLEEPING BAG @ $119.99USD is hard to beat (also canvas model for a little bit more). I've used this down to -20c and have been comfortable. The square sleeping bags allow you to move around so I find them warmer. If you can find a 2 or 3 layer similar bag - they are great, as you can wash the inner. 👍
I am cusrious if you get a lot of condensation on the bottom of the pads and tent floor with the pads inside of the tent instead of under? Reason I ask is I have a vista 2 I set up in the living room to do a sleep in before actually taking it out in the field. I put the pad inside of the tent like you did but tetons website shows it under the tent on top of the cots. It was roughly 62 degrees in the living room, had a ceiling fan on high, and my daughter and I slept in the tent without the fly on. I have a teton xl -25 sleeping bag i used but I slept on top of it with a horizon hound down blanket. Everything went well but when I went to take the tent down I started to roll up my pad and the bottom was wet as well as the floor on the tent. I got hot and thought maybe it was sweat but when I went to roll up my daughter's side the bottom on her's had a perfect wet spot where she was laying and I am positive she did not sweat through. Its not a big deal at home, I just laid the pads over the dog kennels in the living room to dry but I would hate to put the gear away just to have to get it out and dry it when I get home if there is a way to avoid it. Do you ever experience the condensation under the pads? Have you ever used the pad under the tent as they show it on tetons website? If so any difference? Love the videos 👍
Hi Brett - I don't think the pad is designed to go under the tent despite what is shown on the TETON website. The TETON pad I have found does seem to attract moisture, as it's a foam and cotton canvas construction. There is no moisture barrier protecting the foam, unlike an inflatable pad that has to be air tight. In a normal tent setup, you heat the pad and part of the ground beneath you with your body . This remains constant during the night. With a tent cot, you are heating the top of the pad but the bottom of the pad is exposed to the environment not just the ground. This means on very cold nights in the cot tent, the bottom of the pad can be much colder than the ground and cannot be heated as it's constantly re-chilled by air movement. I suspect this is why moisture is drawn into the mat, as it's evaporating from the lower side and pulling it in from the top side. Only a theory 😀
great video. wondering about your jest knife, does it clip to your harness or does it come with webbing, i notice you jacket in your amazon link it says it has a mesh lining is it warm enough for spring camping.
Hi James - I have the Mora Garberg with the multipoint sheath mounted on a Helikon-Tex SERE pouch. It's just convenient to use over a jacket 👍 I find having a fleece under the jacket makes it great for the colder temperatures, but can be used in summer without for warmer weather 👍
Hello Michael, I got the cot from teton been on the fence about the tent, and the big fly ,stay dryer. I had a thought I do like the Vista 2 size. Being a bigger guy. Extra room would be nice, I love being off the ground . The tent requires a second cot , not sure if I'm ready to buy another cot. I got to think how to set up Vista2 and only use one cot? Nice idea,
Hi John, yes that's as unique challenge, using the Vista 2 with a single cot. Not sure how you could make that work without the risk of falling out of the cot on the non-supported side 🤔 but good luck with it!
@@TheEmporiumOutdoorsI realize this is an older video but hoping to get advice from you. I’m in a similar predicament as the person above, I have the complete set up for the one person but would like the 2 person as I camp with my not so small dogs, 70 and 30 lbs, I have the XL cot that goes with the 1 person setting but I was thinking perhaps I could add the universal cot to complete the 2 P set. Looking at the measurements I’d have about 11” extra on the width and wondering if I could McGiver it to secure tent to cots regardless. Any thoughts/suggestions on the matter? I also have the shorter cot which is about 10” short on the length compared with the XL 🤔. Such dilema, I really want the 2P tent but I prefer not to spend $ on cots since I have cots coming out of my ears and running out of space in the shed. HELP!
love the videos. Hoping for a longer term video detailing how you feel about the shift from the side by side to the Jeep. also, I've always wondered. Why only 1 night of camping? Seems that you drive a decent distance, I've always been curious why you don't do at least a 2 night layover. I think there have been some, but they are few and far between (to my questionable memory anyway 😆)
I do miss the Can Am but I miss my old camping area too for that matter 😔 The one night camps are my way of juggling, running a business, having a family and keeping everyone happy including myself - I'd love longer trips but UA-cam is almost like a second job. Typical video takes me a week to edit or more sometimes. Maybe I'll win the lottery and have more free time 😄
Loving these videos of the cot tents. Notice recently you switched to a RTT. Do you still plan to use the cot tents or are you loving the RTT and never looking back? Cheers 👍
I'm a kinda everything all at one type of guy 😄 The cot tent will always be my favourite way to camp, as it's so simple and you feel connected to the outdoors. But it's heavy and you need to car camp with it or use an UTV to haul it. 👍 Some of my best nights sleep have been in the camp cot in winter 😊
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors I have a 10L MSR Dromedary Bag for when I need a little more water. It also does not taste bad. But I find it’s tough to get the taste out of Camelbak bladders/hoses.
Inspired by your videos I now have the cot, the Teton cot pad and the vista tent. It’s really a great tent. At 47 degrees my back was very cold all night, so cold I kept waking up. Do you recommend any insulated pads to use with the Teton foam pad that might help keep my back warm?
If you want an extra layer, I'd go with a closed cell sleeping mat under the TETON mat. It doesn't have to be expensive but will create a thermal barrier to help the TETON mat insulate better. An alternative is a sheet of reflectix - This is sold on Amazon or from auto spares stores as windshield sun protector or general insulation. I use this in my hammock setups when its cold - Hope that helps!
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors I used the DBL Bubble reflective foil insulation R Value of 8 in 50 degree weather and it worked wonders. Worked so well I now want to see how it does in 20-30 degree. Thanks for the Tip!
Thanks for mentioning you slept cold at 47° on the Teton mat. I would have thought it would be sufficient on its own. I'm trying to decide on the Teton 1 or 2, but regardless, if I'm expecting lower temps I'll bring something like the reflectix insulation to supplement the pad.
A cheap and fast answer is to get a large silve foldingr windshield reflector . Silver side up under your pad. The silver coating reflects body heat back to you. If it is really cold move it to just under your bag. Just make sure to remove any suction cups etc.
Hi Michael, Esme and Simon, greetings from southern Ireland, I hope you're all well and having a good time, I sent you a text on an other video but can't find it now I was enquiring about the cf moto u force 600 utility vehicle which I believe is quite popular in Canada, my husband William is thinking of changing his trx 500 Honda atv for one as they come road legal and are 6 to 7000 euro cheaper than the polarise ranger 570.i do enjoy watching your videos Michael and I value your advice. Bye for now. Helen Ryan Fox.
Helen - I would look at the resale price. Honda, Can Am and Polaris hold their price well but smaller import brands will depreciate quickly, plus they don't get much dealer support as they are not as popular. I'd stick with Honda 😉
Michael, I like the Jeep, but I really preferred your videos with your side by side, it seemed more adventurous…I understand why you switched and support your decision, however if you ever get another atv that would be great…
Ben - You have no idea how much I agree with you! - I'm kinda stuck until winter to change it. Wait until you see the "deep" winter camping with my snowmobile 😄 and Esme! I might make a video explaining - Thanks for the idea Ben 👍
The shorter rainfly comes with the tent should you be camping without the cot. Not everyone wants to carry the heavy cot and in this case 2. I love mine but I have to think about it when I use it in terms of weight and space. Honestly as much as I love it I find myself using it the least out of my other tents because of it, and sometimes I just bring the tent on its own.
Indeed that is correct with the shorter fly and I too have used it solo, however, the cot really makes the tent for me from a comfort point of view 👍 Thanks for the comment!
Good set up but just because Simon has no hair(your fault for getting it cut soooo short) poor Esme has to wait for her comfort. She did not look happy.
They all have to wait for their comfort, just like we do until we set up camp, no difference however they wouldn’t change a thing in order to go camping, at least not my dogs, perhaps that’s the difference between city dogs and the ones that aren’t, they love being in the forest sharing adventures with their people.
@@carmenmartinez2882 True Carmen, dogs are like people , they adapt. My dogs live on a farm and run (almost) free but are free sprits. Keep away from fox poo.

Thanks David - Take care buddy 👍
Great videos, I was wondering aren't the sleeping pads supposed to go on the cots instead of inside the tent ? Thanks
The pads always go in the tent - Keeps them dry and stops them sliding from beneath the tent 👍
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Thank you very much! I was just confused because my 2 pads have tied down points on each corner. Keep the videos coming. Thanks again
@@laurielane8485 Anytime Laurie! Sometimes pads have the ability to connect with a sleeping bag to stop it sliding off. 👍
How do you add an outside heat source?
You could use a diesel heater blowing warm air under the beds or use an electric blanket 👍
Nice move on the cutting of the steak for Simon but it went directly from the dog bowl to your steak , no what that’s about I’ve got two golden retrievers.
I know right 😄 Camping with dogs is certainly fun!
I see you have both the Vista 1 and 2. Which do you prefer? Do you still like these tents? How do they do in the rain?
Hi JB, the Vista 1 is great for one person and the Vista 2 for 2 or 1 person and pets. I have the elite fly for both models and is necessary for heavy rain or snow. I still use and love these tents! 👍
Will this tent fit on one of the xxl Teton cots? Thank you.
Unfortunately not, you need 2 x standard size cots/pads - Personally I would have made this fir 2x XXL cots like the Vista1 setup.
@ Thank you
Think it would work with any other cots? The Teton cot is pricy
Try not to over inflate the mat so that it will conform to your body when you lie down 👍
Hi Michael which sleeping bag do you recommend to sleep in at 20 degrees?
I tend to get cold too easy.
Good question!! Depends on a few things - shape of the bag (mummy or square for more room - I find square are easier to keep warm), back packable or car camping and budget, low medium or high?
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors
I def want the Square for more room.
Teton Cot camping. Budget $200 or less.
Thanks for the reply and info.
Strange question, but how does the water taste from that “bottle”? Does it have a camelbak like plastic taste?
Hi Mike - Its actually ok - doesn't seem to smell or make the water taste weird 👍
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors I have a 10L MSR Dromedary Bag for when I need a little more water. It also does not taste bad. But I find it’s tough to get the taste out of Camelbak bladders/hoses.
@@MrMikebarrie I agree - I had the same issue and baking soda helps but it's not the best! 👍
Hello Michael, what size of helikon jacket do You use?? I think i would be same size.
Greetings from Mexico!!!
Sure thing Rodolfo - I take an XL - This gives me a little room to add winter clothing underneath 👍
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors thank You very much!!!! Btw lovely videos!!!
Thanks so much! 👍
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors
I used the DBL Bubble reflective foil insulation R Value of 8 in 50 degree weather and it worked wonders. Worked so well I now want to see how it does in 20-30 degree.
Thanks for the Tip!
@@TangoCowabunga Anytime! 👍
When are yoy gonna camp by the river ????
Strangely - Next video....😉
Michael, I like the Jeep, but I really preferred your videos with your side by side, it seemed more adventurous…I understand why you switched and support your decision, however if you ever get another atv that would be great…
Ben - You have no idea how much I agree with you! - I'm kinda stuck until winter to change it. Wait until you see the "deep" winter camping with my snowmobile 😄 and Esme! I might make a video explaining - Thanks for the idea Ben 👍
the extended fly should come with the cot....or Teton could make the other fly a cpl inches longer, instead of being so stingey with materials.......
Hahaha - We have a new groomer so it was a little short for his normal length 😄 - Esme is always a princess 👸🏻🐶 - lol
