This was a really great look at hashtag use. Thank you! I'm going back to school for Public Relations. I'm currently in a class where we are working for a non-profit client. I'm advocating for 20 plus hashtags on a post, as part of our social media plan we are developing is to raise awareness of of client in the community. Unfortunately, I am getting push back from my group about using more than two hashtags. I was able to get the advice sheet to tell the client to use up to 10 hashtags. But I still don't think that is enough if we are trying to be more discoverable. I like your 50% explanation though, so I'm going to try that angle to win over my group.

Hmmm, I need to use Later! Interesting that you say to aim for popular hashtags. Sounds obvious when I write it out loud, but a lot of the advice I’ve seen tells me to go for hashtags that have less daily posts to increase my chances of ranking for them. I’m going to give your method a go for the next few months. Thanks 🙏🏾

You really are a great help in all this because it can be so confusing, even for a millennial like me! Having instagram work for me rather me work for it . . hope that makes sense, is truly a tough catch!
The one thing I truly struggle with is my pillars. I feel like they are all so similar at times so its hard to know what hashtags can be used or even if my posts are too similar at times.
For example I have "self-love" as well as "mental health" but also incorporate "meditation" which are 3 different pillars! Is this okay? Being new to how to reach an audience and make sure I am creating meaningful posts, I get caught up in what category my content should go in and making sure there is a variety!
Any tips or tricks to get out of my head on this and produce more content efficiently!

HI Katie - another great video! I was wondering if you have a preference of where to add the hashtags - comments or caption. It looks like you are adding them to the captions but I've heard often that the best practice is in the comments. I went to verify on your IG account, but it doesn't look like you use a lot of hashtags for your posts in either location... I have been putting my in the captions and decided to change it up and put it in the comments, but when I did that, I definitely didn't see an uptick in engagement but it seemed like it took a little dip.
Any thoughts you have on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I just started taking hashtags seriously a few weeks ago but Ive noticed that more than 95% of my likes are still coming from my followers meaning I dont know if my post is even getting out there? Ive heard on other channels that everyones reach is dropping because of reels do you think this is true?

Hi! The field leaders in my country and my niche are usually lucky if they get around 40-50k subscribers. On the top of that, they don’t use hashtags at all !
Hey! I really love your videos. They have helped me so much! The biggest problem I face while growing my Instagram account is that people follow and then unfollow! I guess they are doing this on purpose. Also certain people follow and if I like their content and I follow them back after a while I see they unfollow me! Its such a rut and making it so difficult to grow!
This video is very helpful. But someone has told me that if your hashtags don’t directly relate to the actual photo then IG won’t serve it. Example: me hugging a dog. But my caption would be talking about anxiety. And I would gear towards mental health hashtags not dog lover ones. Do you think this thought process is actually true?

Regarding hashtags, when I look at my insights some posts won’t even show hashtags even though I’ve used them. Any ideas why? If you are a *beauty blogger (makeup, skincare or whatever)* collect hashtags from growing IGers with less than 100k. People with 100k or more tend towards more sponsored posts and limit their hashtag use (unless it's brand specific ex: # dewitwithLaneige or VichyLover etc). I have observed they have a stronger tendency towards @ tagging as many brands as possible in their long winded captions in unsponsored posts, but they hardly use hashtags to get discovered at that point.

Hashtags are a key way to increase your visibility and target your audience.
It is possible to use up to 30 hashtags in an Instagram post. But I will recommend you using between five and nine hashtags per post.
I will add "use as many tools as you can" as one of your points. It's all about attracting more audiences, and there are quite a lot of tools to make interesting content.
You can use many filters or photoshop to edit your photo with Canva or use YellowDuck.tv to go live on Instagram from your PC.
In this way, you will attract many followers and grow your social media marketing.
I always have people teasing me for using hashtags, just have to punch judgement in the face

I find it’s so hard to use the right hashtag but I feel like this has cleared my brain a bit, I’m just curious but how many hashtags are too much? As I only use 5 and I wonder if this is why I’m not getting as much reach 😕

I find that bigger creators with over a hundred thousand followers rarely use hash tags anymore
This is frustrating because none of the successful boutique owners in my niche use hashtags. And if they do its very generic like #instaboutique #boutique #shopnow etc. And all those have way too many posts. And I even go further down their time line and they still don't use hashtags.
I feel like I’ve done all my homework on Instagram strategies and have both used smaller ones and the ones that are used and seem to be working for people in my niche with similar content and my posts are still basically dead. Not only not being discovered but not even reaching a fraction of my followers. Idk what else to do.
How do you find localized hashtag? The challenge always is the hashtag suggested are generic and localized business can't take benefit of global ranked hashtag. Any suggestion?

I run my friend's Instagram for her webtoon comic. I started in May and used the hashtag strategies and got a pretty good amount of engagement and followers. Then my friend went on a mission trip so she's not putting out anymore of her content at the moment. I'm trying to revamp her old content in different ways but I'm just not getting the engagement I used to. Do you have any advice for getting back my engagement???
