    Quick update for everyone that's reminded me about Vince's video (ua-cam.com/video/cZiMMz_NpNk/v-deo.html&ab_channel=MyMateVINCE), where I forgot that he fixed a VERY similar problem.
    First, apologies for your comments not appearing on the video. I swear I'm not deleting them, but UA-cam is hiding them due to spam rules (guessing because there's the link to Vince's video in them), and I can't figure out how to stop that. However, I do see them appear in my Dashboard.
    Second, thanks! :) I keep up to date with all of Vince's videos, and honestly don't know how I forgot about him fixing pretty much this same issue. Thanks again for the reminder.
    Thirdly, there'll be a revisit video on this very soon. Just waiting for the capacitors to arrive.
    Again, thanks for watching!

    Zippo lighter fluid or brake cleaner spray and heat might work on those warranty stickers.

    Try replacing caps in the power supply

  • @TheFenecFox
    @TheFenecFox 3 місяці тому

    I'm also having a similar problem!
    Weirdest part though is that it's random. Meaning, I can throw Combat Evolve on it, play it ok and then turn it off. Then later push the power button and get the red ring. After a power cycle it will work again.
    I only worked on computers so I'm a TAD hesitant on working on it, but I rather do it now than later

      Sounds like you might have one or more bad capacitors on the board. If you're comfortable working on it, open it up and take a look and see if you notice any obviously bulging/leaky capacitors. (Note that bad capacitors won't always do that though.)
      At the very least (and assuming you don't have a version 1.6 Xbox), you'll want to remove the supercapacitor before it does too much damage to the motherboard.

      Hi there, I'm still not exactly sure what the issue is, but I'll be doing a follow-up on this video when I find something.
      Keep in mind that this flashing red light appears to be a general "something's wrong" type of signal, and doesn't appear to be directly indicating that a certain component is bad.

    I have that same type of xbox and it's red and someone said you can't fix it

  • @benson2873
    @benson2873 Рік тому +1

    So I have one that’s doing the same thing. Turn it on, turns off then quickly turns back on and red rings. However the disc drive is toast. Doesn’t open, and is all cockeyed in the console. Do you think the disc drive could be the issue? It’s been opened before by someone else.

    • @DiscountSasquatch
      @DiscountSasquatch  Рік тому +1

      It's quite possible. If you feel comfortable doing so, try unplugging the disc drive cables, then seeing if the Xbox throws an error ( and stays powered on) when it starts up. If it's still switching on and off, you may have issues with components on the motherboard.
      Regardless, I'd also see if the drive sled if affixed properly to the drive housing. Sounds like someone may have taken it apart, but not put it back together properly.

    • @benson2873
      @benson2873 Рік тому

      @@DiscountSasquatch I’m hoping it’s the disc drive to be frank. The front plate on the disc drive that says “XBOX” isn’t even there, so I can see directly into the console and the disc drive, and it’s banged up pretty good. I reckon that is part of the problem. It’ll switch on and off, then idle good but nothing on the screen. Not sure If I said that or not.

    • @DiscountSasquatch
      @DiscountSasquatch  Рік тому +1

      Hmm, I'd try booting it up without the disc drive - not to see it it will fully work, but to see if you'll get an on-screen "drive missing" error, or if it does the same thing.
      If you get the error, chances are (probably) that it's the drive that's the issue. If not, you may have issues with the board (or power supply) itself.

  • @alataweel8954
    @alataweel8954 Рік тому +2

    The warranty stickers were still intact so not sure why you said the error was possibly due to a mod attempt gone wrong

    • @DiscountSasquatch
      @DiscountSasquatch  9 місяців тому +1

      Yep, there are definitely spaces to accommodate more capacitors. But looks like some slight changes were made between design and manufacturing, and they ended up not needing those.

    I'm having exactly the same problem. Now, if I leave it blinking for a minute, then push the disc tray button again, it will now send the display to the TV and will work fine. Weird. My box hasn't been opened yet and has the screw seals intact.

    • @DiscountSasquatch

      That's an odd one, and I haven't encountered that myself. There's a possibility that it's the same BA chips that are acting up, but again, I'm not sure.

    I nodded my Xbox years ago and had a open disk tray spinning on top so I can cheat at halo without shoving a butter knife into my disk tray for the downloaded maps cause the game thought my disk was bad. One day I thought what if I put the game in upside down for no stupid reason at all then my Xbox did this and never worked again. Try buying a new hard drive but either my Xbox was bad or someone sold me their bad hard drive as well

    • @DiscountSasquatch
      @DiscountSasquatch  Рік тому

      That's a weird one for sure, but with such old hardware, sometimes they do strange things. It's odd that a modded Xbox didn't want to take the new drive though - or maybe both drives were good, and the problem was another component?

    shouldn't you be using silicon grease not lithium.

    • @DiscountSasquatch
      @DiscountSasquatch  2 місяці тому

      Either can be used (from what I remember). However, silicone grease has a tendency to eat away at other parts made of silicone such as seals, belts, or wire insulation. (Not to say that all lithium greases are fine though - make sure they're not petroleum-based before applying them to plastic.)

    Anybody know of where I can send my original XBOX to, need a internal cleaning and checked for any potential problems. System is in near mint condition and works, only problem is that the title screen is choppy, games play with no incident. Perhaps what would cause the title screen to do that? Any assistance with my questions would be appreciated!

    • @DiscountSasquatch
      @DiscountSasquatch  Рік тому +1

      Hi there, don't really know of any places I would recommend you send it to. If anyone else watching can recommend anywhere, please do.
      My advice would probably be to find a local repair place with good reviews (assuming there are any nearby you, of course).
      As for the choppiness, the laser may be dirty or failing (i.e. not transmitting the data fast enough when streaming title screen intros) - but that's just a guess.
      But, I would recommend a cleaning (of both the system and laser), as well as a new application of thermal paste, and removal of the clock capacitor if it's not a version 1.6.
      Thanks for watching, and good luck with getting your system fixed up!
