Just a tip, never spread your thermal paste out like that. If this Xbox is actually used it will almost for sure overheat due to doing that none the less still great you got it working
it will fail again cause he just reballed it, too little thermal paste is worse than too much. The pressure of the mounting evens it out and just wastes the rest not making contact with the ihs and the heatsink, too little and u get gaps where thermal paste could be sat instead, the 360s problem was the heat from its components caused the board to flex and crack the pads/balls on the chip or board
I recently repaired one of these, and I swear, I never want to take one apart again in my life! All those plastic clips were an absolute nightmare! It works, but the clips have gone for a Burton lol.
You did not install the CPU heat sink incorrectly. Compare 6:59 with 15:30 in the video and you will see the issue. It won't cool correctly with the heat sink 90 degrees off.
I'm super happy for you that you managed to fix the rrod, but what you did is only a temporary fix. Only real way is to replace the solder balls under the cpu/gpu with lead solder
@@garyhaas9575 Erm, no its actually nothing to do with the solder what causes the problem with these consoles, its to do with the clamps and the fact the main board is under large amounts of heat, cooling, heat, cooling cycles add the tension of the x-clamps, this causes micro fractures and separation in the solder balls present on the BGA, hence the RROD. Its just a shit design from M$. And that's NOT a reflow, all you did was heat the chip in a vain hope you reflowed it lol. Its similar to baking a GFX card

No need to spread at all, it's only going to increase the risk of creating air bubbles. The heatsink will spread the thermal paste evenly when you attach it to the board.

Unfortunately this is only a temporary fix. It will break and red ring again. The 360's original design has an inadequate cooling solution which results in a solder joint breaking in either the cpu or gpu. Reheating the solder joint where it broke will fix it, but it will be weaker than it's original flow. The real only way to solve this issue is to do a reball. That takes a lot of time and very expensive equipment. Not only that, but this 360 needs a more efficient cooling design. So the real solution would be after the reball, to modify the cooling system or ditch the 360 housing completely and put it in a pc case for proper air flow.
The only parts of this comment that are correct are the first two sentences... Everything else is wrong. The issue is with the underfill material supporting the solder bumps on the die. The underfill fails and the solder bumps eventually crack. Reballing does absolutely nothing to fix this, and the stock cooling is sufficient for a properly designed chip. Replace the GPU with an updated variant, and the console will live for a very long time with no other changes.

Hello, I have a 360 slim
But it shows a red light for overheating, how do I repair it?
No, it needs a gpu. It's gpu failure. Microsoft even said it in their documentary
thank you for watching
I'm so glad I still have my Xbox 360, which still works. Same with my Xbox that has the clear casing.
Great 👍👌 work Xbox 360
thanks for watching
What is the bottle with the red label that you used for the goo that removed the yellowing?
When you turn the Xbox 360 on, I make sure it’s not my ps4 that’s flying me to China
I wished to see it when mine was broken. I would have send it to you for repairing it.
what's that stuff that you used to remove the yellowing? i need that... i didn't see a product link...
But what is that substance you coat it with when you retrobright? I've only ever used 12% hydrogen peroxide.
What cream is he using for retro bright?
Why did the previous owner take out pass-thru (top case) screws?
I did this too to my old XBOX360... but after 2 Weeks, it broke again and wasn't renewable
Still a very good video ! :)
The CPU heatsink must be rotated 90 degress. Now the air from the fan will be blocked instead of pass trough. CPU will overheat if you do it like this
Facts
what did you use to clean the outside of the device, and remove the yellow?
