Chris was/is one of the best vocalist of my life time. His range is ridiculous. If you want to hear him slowed down he covers the Prince written “ Nothing compares to you”. There is a live version on UA-cam from his performance at the Sirius studios..
I agree with you regarding Chris Cornell!! Grew up with heavy Rock as my mother was listening to heavy bands in the 60s!! In the 70s, I was a teen and got into Yes, Floyd, Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Sabbath, etc. The 80s came and I became insulted by most of the music until the 90's!! Alice in Chains blew me away, but Soundgarden with Chris Cornell's almost 5 octave range floored me! Despite me turning 60 years old in November, Chris Cornell (in my opinion) The Greatest Male Rock Vocalist I've ever heard!!
RIP Chris Cornell. Soundgarden was on tour in 2017 when the lead singer was found dead in his room. Death was ruled suicide by hanging. 2 months later , his close friend and Linkin Park lead singer,Chester Bennington, passed away in the same manner on what would have been Chris's birthday. Linkin Parks 2 biggest songs were 'In the End' and 'Numb' . Both with over 1 billion views.
Chris and Chester were making a documentary exposing child trafficking, that's why they, as well as many others, have been suicided by the red scarf. May all evil be exposed and the children be saved.
The lead singer was one of the best rock vocalist ever, Chris Cornell... he was the lead singer for Soundgarden, then Temple of the Dog & then for Audioslave. Audioslave was comprised of Chris & the entire band, minus the singer, of Rage Against The Machine. They were considered a supergroup. He also had a huge catalog in his solo career. Soundgarden, there are so many great songs to choose from, Spoonman, Black Hole Sun & many others. Temple of the Dog Feat Eddie Veder - Hunger Strike (Eddie is the lead singer of Pearl Jam), or "Say Hello To Heaven" is another great choice for them. As for Audioslave, my absolute favorite is Show Me How To Live. But can not leave out Cochise, Like a Stone or Gasoline. His most famous songs from his solo career would have to be Billie Jean, Michael Jackson cover & Nothing Campares 2 U, originally written & recorded by Prince. In between Prince & Chris doing this song, Sinéad O'Connor did her own version as well, and she absolutely did the song justice. Looking forward to what you give us next with Chris.... Hope you two & your little ones stay safe & stay strong 💙💙 Just a side note, Chris died 5.18.2017 by hanging & his best friend died 7.20.2017 by the same method... Chester Bennington . Lead singer for Linkin Park.
This is just one side of the late, great Chris Cornell.... he was lead singer in 3 bands and has a HUGE solo catalogue (he did many things in his short life). For a different side of Chris please check out.... "LIKE A STONE" Chris in Audioslave "FELL ON BLACK DAYS" Chris in Soundgarden "HUNGER STRIKE" Chris in Temple Of The Dog, with Eddie Vedder (of pearl Jam) as co-lead vocalist "BILLIE JEAN" Chris' solo career acoustic rendition of Michael Jackson's Pop song.... Chris' rendition will leave you speechless and you'll have goosebumps!!!
One of the OG grunge bands. Chris Cornell’s voice can rip your heart out or slap you around depending on the song. I miss him so much. #RIPChrisCornell
"Looking California, feeling Minnesota".... I've always interpreted it as on the outside he's looking all "Hollywood" for the cameras and the Rock Star image that the record labels wanted to promote, but on the inside he's feeling sad, lonely and depressed (cold, dark, sparse and barren) kinda like the stereotype of Minnesota..... Chris was open about his life-long battle with depression... Just my thoughts... :)
SIDE NOTE: I've never heard anyone EVER try to compare Chris' voice to anyone before.... that being said, I think you NAILED IT!!! Check out "Like A Stone" it's Chris in one of his other bands Audioslave.... totally different vibe and you'll hear his voice even better in that one!!! ;) ;)
songs that are a must to check out , "The Day I tried to live" "4th of July" "Spoonman" "Blackhole sun" "Pretty Noose" "Blow up the Outside World" "Burden in my Hand" "Fell on Black Days"
If you haven't already, check out Hunger Strike by Temple Of The Dog. It features this singer (Chris Cornell) and Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam on co lead vocals. And you are right, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were both part of the grunge movement in the early 90s. They have a similar sound.
Welcome to the greatest Rock Singer of all time in my opinion. Chris Cornell is a beast, especially early in his career when he could hit the high notes. He calmed down in his later years but has so much soul in his voice. Soundgarden were one of the Big 4 Grunge bands (including Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam), they were all friends who grew up in the Washington/Seattle area mainly. I'd add Screaming Trees into the mix, criminally underrated and ignored by all reactors, but released 2 absolute classic albums in Sweet Oblivion and Dust. Mark Lanegan, their vocalist, still records today and his voice will move you. Soundgarden are my second favorite band ever after Tool. They have a very rich catalogue of songs. Chris also sang with Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog and has released many solo albums too. He did the James Bond theme for Casino Royale, called You Know My Name Check out his covers of Billie Jean (Michael Jackson) and Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince) Your comparison to Layne Staley (AIC and Steven Tyler is a fair one, but he was better than both combined and I love Aerosmith and Alice In Chains Some more Chris to check out? This is Chris Cornell! He's one of the most loved singers ever ❤! Everyone loves him! I was lucky to have been around when all these grunge bands were coming out! It was an amazing time for rock/metal/ grunge!!!!!
Try “ Rusty Cage” Chris Cornell has a lion of voice. His vocal range is off the charts ... also has a duet with Eddie Vedder , lead singer of Pearl Jam called “ Hunger Strike” powerful classic!
Also check out Temple of the Dog. One of the first bands of Chris Cornell, songs “Say Hello 2 Heaven” and “Hunger Strike” and the song Chris did solo “Nothing Compares to You” live at SeriusX radio.
That lead vocalist was Chris Cornell, he also fronted the supergroup Audioslave, whose hits listed songs such as "Like A Stone", "I Am The Highway"and "Cochise" Other Soundgarden songs that you might enjoy include: Black Hole Sun Spoon man Rusty Cage Fell On Black Days As for the origin story of the band, they're a grunge rock band based in Seattle, their band name stems from a landmark in Seattle that consisted of windchime-like structures that produce sounds as the winds blew across Vancouver bay
"I'm looking California, but feeling Minnesota." One of the best lines ever. Looking slick and expensive and put together, but feeling cold and dark and lonely.
Sometimes his voice still makes me well up. I saw him live a week before his last show. He’s always been my favorite rock vocalist. Gets me right in the soul.
"A Sound Garden" is a musical sculpture at the NOAA station in Seattle, Washington, and is where the band got their name. The song "Black Hole Sun" takes its name from a sculpture in Volunteer Park in Seattle. Local boys made big, along with a number of other bands that kicked popular music square in the nuts in the early 90s.
Chris Cornell. One of the best singers ever in rock. And yes, your sense of feeling the Alice In Chains vibe is correct. Both bands were popular around the same time as part of the Grunge movement.
I have heard this song a thousand times, but I got chills listening to it once again during your review. It is great to see someone who has never heard it appreciate the band and Chris' talent!
Chris Cornell had one of the best voices in rock and roll. When Zack Dela Rocha left Rage Against the Machine, Chris Cornell got with them and formed the band Audioslave. Epic × 10
Check out the singer Chris Cornell’s version of “Nothing Compares to You” or anything from his band Audioslave (Like A Stone, Cochise, I am the Highway etc). WORD!!
My favorite Soundgarden song. 😎🎶🔥Grunge era, 89 to 95, idk, these lyrics just remind me of feeling conflicted, in general. Can someone remind me the name of the t.v show Soundgarden used to appear in with short videos inserted into the commentary, was it Seattle live? Amber, you re SO good at connecting the lyrical dots, nailed it. 😎
Chris Cornell, lead singer, was fantastic. I'm obsessed with his solo song "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart". When I heard him do the James Bond song "You Know My Name", I made a beeline to my PC to possess that song.
I remember when this song came out someone asked Chris Cornell about the line “looking California and feeling Minnesota.” Being from Minnesota, I naturally payed attention! You were spot on, Amber. He said the first time he was in Minnesota on tour, it was so cold that it hurt to breathe. I was at that show! It was in February! Anyway, yep, looking good/happy but feeling cold.
Listen to Anything from Soundgarden, he also sang lead for Audio Slave (Audio Slave is Rage Against the Machine with Chris singing lead), anything by them is good, one called Cochise is my favorite. A 90's Supergroup called Temple of the dog he and Eddie Vetter from Pearl Jam share vocals, Hunger Strike and Reach Down are 2 songs I recommend. Chris did some great solo stuff and some covers. Enjoy the trip guys.....
I’ve seen a lot of reaction channels and many are endearing, but you guys seem to have a more genuine and realistic love of music, and the discovery of music. You remind us all why we all fell in love with certain things at certain times. Or why we didn’t. Thanks!
CC had a voice like no other. As you discover more of his work from from SG to Audioslave temple of the dog and solo you will see he truly was a one of a kind as good as his voice was his writing was equally impressive.
I've been a Soundgarden and an Aerosmith fan for 30+ years and only today did I hear THE BEST comment on Cornell's voice. Steven Tyler and Layne Staley (Alice in Chains)! Dude! You nailed it. I didn't really understand this song until my mental health got bad. For me, it's about that constant and extreme push and pull of clinical depression. One day your up and the next day your down and there's no explanation why. You all are awesome. Keep it up.
Fell on black days, burden in my hand and rusty cage are also great. Would also recommend Say Hello 2 Heaven by Temple of the Dog if you haven't already.
Check out Chris Cornell and Audioslave...... I was Fortunate enough to have seen Soundgarden and Rage, and Audioslave in Colorado USA and they all absolutely Shredded it.....
You just listened to the best voice to come out of the Seattle grunge scene. Great range & power in his vocals. If you want to hear insane vocal range , check out Steelheart - "I'll Never Let You Go". The singer did all of Mark Wahlbergs vocal parts in the movie "Rockstar".
most people don't know, but this is a shortened version of the actual song, not by that much but you really miss chris hitting some high notes, they made this version for the radio, because every time i'd hear it on the radio i was like woah woah, they cut me off! lol can't have that. love all you guys reactions. and i'm glad to be subbed
One of the big 4 of grunge Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. Check out Slaves and bulldozers, His voice is amazing. Jesus Christ pose Rusty cage. You got it with the Looking California feeling Minnesota line.
Chris Cornell is 1 of the greatest male vocalists ever and has several songs with Soundgarden and Audioslave and Temple of the Dog with Pearl Jams singer. Hes done several of his own things as well, his voice is unique and he will be missed. Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were all out around the same time with the grunge rock era. Sad hes gone. Listen to Rusty Cage or Like a Stone from Audioslave.... Great songs from a great vocalist.
Chris Cornell (lead singer for Soundgarden) does a beautiful cover of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean and a great cover of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 You.
Im sure everyone in the comments gonna mention all their favorite Soundgarden songs.. You guys should also check out his next band " Audioslave" when Chris Cornell joined with all the band members of Rage Against the Machine. Chris was easily the greatest rock singer of the 90's and until his death. Everything he touched was solid gold.
Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam exploded out of Seattle. They completely changed the rock scene, and their presence can be felt to this day. Unfortunately, we've lost Chris, Layne, and Kurt way too early, but their music will live on forever.
I was never a huge fan of Soundgarden but I absolutely loved Chris Cornell, and I preferred all of his other work. 💗💗💗 Please check out Alice in Chains "Down in a Hole" the MTV UNPLUGGED version! One of the best UNPLUGGED performances ever. 💗
I didn't get into them until I listened to the Superunknown album straight through, and I was hooked. I think there's a lot to be said to listening to entire albums.
@@emanonfox1709 I listened to them a lot in the 90s because my friends played them constantly. I don't hate them, just not a fan. I loved him in Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, and of course his solo work.
My absolute favorite Soundgarden song is Black Hole Sun with Spoonman coming in 2nd. I totally get your comparison of Alice in Chains/Aerosmith! As for the lyrics piece. Per Wikipedia, "I was feeling really freaky and down, and I looked in the mirror and I was wearing a red T-shirt and some baggy tennis shorts. I remember thinking that as bummed as I felt, I looked like some beach kid. And then I came up with that line-’I’m looking California / And feeling Minnesota,’ from the song ‘Outshined’-and as soon as I wrote it down, I thought it was the dumbest thing. But after the record came out and we went on tour, everybody would be screaming along with that particular line when it came up in the song. That was a shock. How could anyone know that that was one of the most personally specific things I had ever written? "
Black hole sun your favourite Soundgarden song.. It's my favourite song of all time . I just miss Chris and I'm a 51 year old dad of 3 even a grandad now. And all my kids know how much of a fan I was..
I think the lyric "I'm looking California but feeling Minnesota" refers to looking okay outwardly but dealing with inner turmoil. By the way, Cris Cornell, Layne Staley (Alice in chains) and Kurt Cobain (nirvana) all from Seattle, all committed suicide.
I appreciate your reaction. I’ve listened to this song countless times and I’ve never deciphered the lyrics. I was just listening to the rhythm, bass, guitar, and vocal power and range. It was nice to hear your reactions talk about what Chris was saying!
Chris Cornell was the best vocalist in his genre, imo. R.I.P. brother
Chris Cornell and Layne Staley are my favorites of the genre. Period.
Meaning '90's yes.
One of the only three good bands to come out of the 90's.
He and Layne are singing Right Turn as we speak.
Between him and Layne Staley (Alice In Chains) for me.
Chris was/is one of the best vocalist of my life time. His range is ridiculous. If you want to hear him slowed down he covers the Prince written “ Nothing compares to you”. There is a live version on UA-cam from his performance at the Sirius studios..

I have been wanting to recommend "I'll Never Let You Go" for a while now.
Gerry Rafferty "Right down the line" Ultimate LOVE song. Requested by my wife. (played at our wedding 14 years ago)
Great song...!
You need to check out more of Chris's work. His voice is even more incredible than in this song. One of the best ever. RIP Chris, we miss you bro

One of the big 4 of grunge Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden. Check out Slaves and bulldozers, His voice is amazing. Jesus Christ pose Rusty cage. You got it with the Looking California feeling Minnesota line.
it does my heart good to see people your age rediscovering the stuff i grew op on im54 but my head is 17
Me too brother... (52)
Chris Cornell did a tribute to Prince after he died, and sang “Nothing Compares to you” and it will cause you to cry.
She nailed it, regarding that verse "Looking California, feeling Minnesota". Spot on. Love the reaction!
I was never a huge fan of Soundgarden but I absolutely loved Chris Cornell, and I preferred all of his other work. 💗💗💗
Please check out Alice in Chains "Down in a Hole" the MTV UNPLUGGED version!
Dude(s), just scratching the surface. Burden in my Hand, Room a Thousand Years wide, Birth Ritual. So so many songs in their catalog
Thank you so much for this reaction. I have been waiting for this reaction for. 3 years. This song specifically
One of the greatest vocalists in rock history.
I believe Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were doing "Grunge" before Nirvana blew up with "Teen Spirit"....
You should hear the Chris Cornell & Melissa Etheridge cover of Ave Maria.
Dudes! You gotta go see Styx in person on Sunday in Oklahoma City. Keyboards. You will love it. React to Styx.
For sure..!!! Rabbit hole..!
No. No they don’t.
Oh I'm so jealous. I was supposed to see Dennis DeYoung last year at a summer festival, but it was canceled. 😔
I saw them in 81' or 82' for the Paradise Theater tour... It was my first concert, I was 12 or 13 and went with my parents...lol It was great..!
I appreciate your reaction.
I’ve listened to this song countless times and I’ve never deciphered the lyrics. I was just listening to the rhythm, bass, guitar, and vocal power and range.
It was nice to hear your reactions talk about what Chris was saying!
If you like the piano you must listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Call Me The Breeze. You gonna love it.
