Chris Cornell is one of the greatest voices of this generation! He has about a 4 octave range and has so much power when he wants it. Over 30 years since this was released and it still sounds relevant and deep. RIP Chris!!! Your music lives on forever.
You have to mention his unparalleled song writing. Yes, his voice/range/singing/arrangements were epic but his lyrics were deep and timeless! Hands down best singer-songwriter of our generation.
@@bradleydevaughn8889 Justin Hawkins asked him about it. He said he would consider writing new material with them but didn't want to try to fill any shoes. Classy dude. Amazing guitarist!
"Say Hello to Heaven" Temple of the Dog (Chris and members of Mother Love Bone ((soon to become Pearl Jam)) made this incredible tribute to their singer, Andy Wood, who ODed). One of Chris Cornell's best imo. R.I.P.
"Right Turn" on the S.A.P. EP is a short but amazing song with Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, and I think one other guy whose name escapes me right now. The harmonies of their voices is pure magic
And down the Chris Cornell rabbit hole you go ............ generally most people start off being impressed and intrigued by his voice on first listen, and 30 or 40 songs later, generally agreeing he's one of the greatest rock vocalists who ever lived. So much good material from him to choose from - his Soundgarden stuff, Audioslave stuff, solo stuff and more.
This song came out in 1991. Since you've heard Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, the next logical step is to react to Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog so you can hear Eddie and Chris singing together!
Looking California. Feeling Minnesota. Im looking sunny but feeling cold inside. Not a slam against the great state of Minnesota. One of the most powerful vocalists ever. RIP CC.
Chris was rather tall,at 6'2". I met him in Seattle,in a pub beneath an overpass. My friend got him to come see me on my B'day. I didnt know and was sitting there at the bar when he came up behind me .I suddenly saw him in the big mirror on the back wall. I almost passed out. He was so tall and lithe. And just sooo nice. Great memory that I have.
I lived in Minnesota when this came out. When that lyric would come up, I would think 'hey Chris, I'm already struggling and trying to maintain optimism and you equate my home with feeling shitty'.
You need to listen to Birth Ritual 🎉 Also give Queensryche if you like vocals. Jet City Woman is my fave. That and the entire Operation:Mindcrime album❤
Chris Cornell is the best voice of this generation. His range is unmatched. Soundgarden were seen as the Led Zeppelin of Grunge. He did an album with the members of Pearl Jam under the name Temple of the Dog. Later on, he fronted Audioslave when Soundgarden broke up. He also had a fantastic solo career. He is truly missed. His death hit me so hard. Check out Say Hunger Strike, Fell On Black Days and Black Hole Sun.
Chris Cornell is the singer. One of the best vocalists of our time! Love Soundgarden, saw them in concert just a few years before he passed. Felt so lucky to have witnessed this powerhouse on stage. He was in a few bands well worth checking out, including Audioslave and Temple of the Dog. Would love to see you react to Audioslaves' song Like a Stone. And Say Hello to Heaven is a very deep personal song Cornell wrote about the suicide of one of his friends
One of my all time faves! Sadly missed! I'm 58 and grew up on all great music from the 60's on up. We have lost way too many great lengendary artists! Can't wait for that great gig in the sky! Rock on!!!

Soundgarden and Chris Cornell are amazing and made some amazing music. It's probably not good for UA-cam reactions due to the name but a really good song you should hear is the acoustic version (and studio) of "Like Suicide". It's a song he wrote when he saw a bird hit his window and broke its neck and he had to kill it. It's incredibly good with a unique story behind it
I'm finding that many of those who are new to the avalanche of new/nu rock in the 90's - especially the first half of the decade - are stunned/shocked because they quite literally didn't know music could be this dynamic, intense, meaningful, cool, and other adjectives...
I was in my late teens and early 20's through the 90's. It was like every month more of this amazing, badass music was released. Then the 2000's came in with the boy bands. Great music became more and more rare from then to this day
Chris once said that when he wrote this song it had to do with the fact that he could look very carefree and happy like a stereotypical California beachgoer, but that’s not how he felt inside.
Chris Cornell's catalog of songs is mind blowing. He was an incredible musician, songwriter and next level vocals. Close to 4 octaves. His love of melody shows through a lot. He wrote and performed with his heart and soul. I grew up in the 70s, music is my oxygen. Although I love Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog, I love Chris' live acoustic shows.
“I’m looking California and feeling Minnesota” - looking like something I’m just the opposite of. Putting on a beautiful mask hiding the pain inside. Just my interpretation 🤷🏻♀️
After watching your reactions for a while, I think you'd really enjoy Burden In My Hand. It gets overlooked but is a musical standout. Thanks for checking them out. I did homecare and hospice nursing for several years and Bad Motorfinger was a go to in my car in the middle of the night, going to death calls and needing to get in the mood to do so. So many nurses are Soundgarden, grunge and metal fans. Dopamine hits to help get through the hard stuff.
If you haven't listened yet, Pearl Jam makes sense to discover after Soundgarden. While Nirvana, AIC , Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam are considered grunge, they all have such unique sound and style. Unfortunately, Pearl Jam is the only of the bands with their original frontman (two suicides and an overdose).
I have always taken the lyric as a compliment to Minnesota. I always interpreted it as California equals Heavy Metal/Hair Metal...fake plastic cookie cutter music etc.....Minnesota on the other hand in the 80's was home of The Replacements/Husker-Du/The Suburbs/Soul Asylum..etc....Authentic, Gritty, Blue Collar, Punk aesthetic..... There is a line in the Replacements song "Left Of The Dial" that goes like this..."Headed out to San Francisco, Definitely not LA" I always viewed Chris Cornell's line as similar. All just IMO.
Always nice to see young'uns appreciating some Soundgarden. :) Don't get too hung up on the at times quite abstract lyrics from them- the way the music makes you *feel* is the thing with Soundgarden. ;)
Going down the grunge road is heartbreaking with so many talented artists gone too soon. But Chris's death still haunts me. His vocals are insane. Listen to Hunger Strike. Its Chris and Eddie Vedder and its insane. Actually Eddie's first video before Pearl Jam.
It's grate band i recommend their more unknown songs like Slaves and bulldozers or loud love . Chris Cornell was one of the best his solo stuff was great too .
Chris and Layne, 2 of the greatest, and when we listen to his Seasons or for Layne, River of Deceit, We can confirm they sound great even when stripped down. Pure Talent.
He was the rouge grunge Singer with the most funk, he played with Eddie Vedder in temple of the dog I'm going hungry. So said what happened to Him and Lane from Alice in chains and Wayan from Stone Temple Pilots they were the more psychedelic grunge band, and Kurt from Nirvana 😮. But Eddie from Pearl Jam still around popping up to say hi once in a while. Silver chairs was a young grunge band that had one hit Tomorrow Addressing Australian hard water problems at just 15 years old.
This gentleman needs to hear some Audioslave! Soundgarden's song Rusty Cage was covered by Johnny Cash. That's mad props. The sad thing is the front men from 3 of the 4 biggest grunge bands took their own lives.
I was born in California and moved to Minnesota at 4. California is hot, and Minnesota is cold. Feels hot on the outside and cold on inside is my takeaway.

Listen to Richie Kotzen or him in the Winery Dogs. I have found that to be the second-best replacement. He sounds so much like Chris it is scary.

I think of Minnesota as a warm and friendly place. I found California pretentious and fake. I don’t think he meant anything bad about Minnesota.
You reckon that was a scream? Try Cochise when he was with Audioslave.
