Good to see drone footage. Adds to the video. Looks great.
Neat carpet Brett.. and flamin' t'stats.. got to get some lower temp ones, or pull the existing guts out, on the Caddys pair
Great to have you back with an update on the fleet, really enjoyed the video, thank you.
I bet your wife was delighted you put that old thermostat in one of her shiny pans 🫣
Thanks Mark
She doesn't know! Don't tell her!
Great show today
There's a very good section on thermostats and cooling issues in Kirby Palm's "Experience in a Book" XJ-S book, aka "The Book".
Love Kirby will look it up now
I'll be watching more whenever there's saloon content than XJS I guess. No loss to yourself I'm sure.
Been there done that with a V12. Don't drive it without thermostats ...too much flow , and the header tanks get flooded and reduce cooling efficiency.
Cut the guts out of the thermostat if you need to , as it needs a restrictor to slow the flow and allow the radiator to do its job. That's why it runs warmer and cools down when you decelerate or go down a hill.
Does it still have the foam on either side of the radiator ? It needs that to force the air through the radiator rather than around it .
I hope you get it sorted
Cheers
The 100th thumb up is mine!
Have a great day!
An interesting vlog Brett, I think the thermostats on the V12 serve two purposes, when open they allow water to pass to the rad but also close off the bypass, with the stats removed then some of the water will take the easiest route along the bypass back to the engine via the pump. Having checked all the obvious causes, I fixed my V12 overheating by removing the rad and having the flow rate checked, a large pressure drop indicated corrosion inside the rad, a compromised flow rate lowers the average temp of the rad and its ability to transfer heat to the air, so a new rad was required.
Thanks Paul
Thermostat is back in ,no difference. I think the same a new radiator will be the answer
I hope you get on top of the cooling there. Keen to know how you go. Thanks for your videos.
New sub here, cool channel! I just started diving into my XJ6 S1, kind of neat, has a manual swap and triple SUs. Here for more XK content, excited to work on this thing! Lol @17:50
I'm sure I'll be back w lots of questions too! Cheers!
Thanks for the sub! Enjoy
More to come
@@tjmthejagmandownunder Stoked! Wish you were close by, you seem rad!
Pretty clean water flow internals on the v12 block it would seem ..... . lucky fella!
Have you ever tried Evans waterless coolant? Brilliant stuff..
No but will try it thanks Dudley
Adam of Living with a classic YT channel tried it and it made overheating much worse for him. He switched back to normal coolant and had better results.
For a first-time Jag owner would you recommend the straight six over the V12 or is the vehicle's condition more important? I'm more interested in XJ sedans and XJS. I don't have XJC money but this would be my first choice if I did.
I started with six's for a while before I bought my first v12. Just depends, if you find a bargain beautiful v12 in your budget buy it. I Have always had soft spot for the underdogs S2's and xj40's
You maybe more cooler if you drink Rislone yourself.
I would need more than Rislone!
You put plain tap water in your radiator??? Really?
Of course! Combined with a high quality concentrate coolant!
@@tjmthejagmandownunder But what about all the contamination in tap water? The bacteria ect.... It will cause the head studs to corrode which is a known problem?
Hi Morgan
We are in Australia mate! Water is pure over here but you still have to add an additive to prevent corrosion and must be the correct ratio. I don't like pre mix coolants. If I drink it so can my car LOL. Thanks for watching
@@tjmthejagmandownunder well I wouldn't do it....even if the water is pure the tap water has contamination in the form of minerals that can cause electrolysis. Tap water flows through miles of pipework to get to your house picking up mineral Contamination along the way. Sorry to disagree with you put I think your wrong putting the same water that goes in your toilet in your v12.
@@morganmcdonagh2663 hi Morgan
Appreciate your view. Toilet is recycled water here. I drink the tap water so it can go in my v12. As long as a corrosion inhibitors are added. Electrolysis really?

Thermo is back in but after I did the video. No foam and no rubber flaps on shroud. Will fix that!
