- Make lockdown a little bit sweeter with this fool proof recipe for one of my favourite home bakes! This Jamaican Ginger Loaf Cake is perfectly moist, dense and moreish and the best thing of all is that it's so easy to make! (Oh, and your house will smell AMAZING). Serve it warm with custard or ice cream or slather it in butter! This recipe also keeps really well if stored in an air-tight container for a few days!
Make sure you take photos of your bakes and tag me so I can see what you are up to! @sallydells and use the tag #cupcakejemma
Stay safe, look after yourselves and have fun baking!

Sally, you radiate happiness and are a very special person, an angel on earth. Thank you for sharing your joy for life and baking with all of us. 🦋🌸💕
RC Doodles this is so sweet and kind, thank you xxx
I know it is quite randomly asking but do anybody know of a good site to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Asher Jose I would suggest flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Gerald Braxton yup, been using Flixzone for since april myself :)
@Gerald Braxton thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) I really appreciate it !
Thank you for this recipe! We used to have the McVities version all the time when I was younger. I made this cake this evening and my mam (who's not a big cake eater) had a taste and then ate two slices in one go!
I’ve made this three times now! The latest one I added the zest of an orange to the syrup at the start of the boil. Took the cake “to another level” as they say. Next time will probably try a little zest in the cake mix as well.
Do you stir the syrup? Or leave it alone? she didn’t say and I haven’t made a sugar syrup before
@@KH-yl9eu it doesnt matter for a syrup i believe, only when ur making caramel
Nice one...
Made this yesterday. Went down a absolute treat. I iced the top as we love a iced ginger cake in this house. Thank you for the great recipe x
Another amazing video! Thank you Sally! You put a smile on my face every time you bake ❤️❤️😘
Another brilliant tutorial Sally and a recipe I’ll be making soon, my friend loves ginger cake.

Love all the extra tips, especially the ginger beer! Stay safe C&D gang.
Thank you for the recipe, I made the loaf and it came out beautiful!!!! I halfed the sugar too and you can taste even more heat from the ginger flavour. I heated it in the microwave and have it over coffee...just delightful ☺

I’ve just made this, OMG, it’s fabulous, that ginger syrup is to die for, the whole cake goes nicely with some cream poured ontop. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. I kept some syrup and later added some to sparkling water. Yummy. ❤️

I ordered the apron kit finally, been wanting it for ages. Decided since we are baking more now that we are home so much... This cake sounds to yummy!!
Thank you so much for ordering the apron! Hope you love it xxx
Yummmmyyy looks delicious 😋
I’ve actually been craving ginger cake, this looks perfect!
Over the weekend I made a batch of gingerbread cookies (leaning on the soft side) and I'm going to fill them with chocolate ganache. Reminds me of Christmas. In that recipe, which made 45 decent size cookies (think chocolate chip cookie size vs say an Oreo) it only called for 1 tbsp of ginger which was plenty. Can you imagine how ginger forward this loaf is going to be?? Mmmm, 😋
Oh Sally! Anything flavoured with either Ginger or Lemon is amazing in my opinion 😋 thank you beautiful, stay safe all please xx
I got really, really close to my iPad while I was watching this and I think I could actually smell the ginger. It was glorious. Then my roommate walked in and I did had to try to explain why I was trying to snort my iPad. I don’t think she understood how much I really wanted to smell that cake because she went over to the other side of the room, grabbed her iPad from its stand, and slowly backed out of the room. Oh well, I enjoyed imagining the smell for a minute or two and she’ll get over it. 😂 Great job on the cake, Sally. Thanks for sharing that with us.
Ahahahahahah ohhhhh one day we will have smellivision!
Sally Dells It can’t come too soon. I’m tired of cleaning the nose prints off my screen. 😂
Sally, you’re a natural! Mine is in the oven now and smells soooo good.
Wahoooo! I hope you loooove it as much as I do! x
Sally Dells , I loved it so much I made it again.
Please make a coffee cake recipe!
Ohhh yum! Yes pls!
Yes please!
Anything coffee does it for me.
Yes pls!!..
Jemma' s tirmasu recipe is one of my favourites- if you I've coffee please try that one, it's never let me down 😍
Delicious 😋 just made this, put it into two loaf tins, absolutely perfect, thank you 😊
Just love Sally. ❤️❤️
Hi there I baked the jamacian ginger cake/loaf yesterday and it was a triumph.
For some inexplicable reason I added ½ teaspoon of baking powder instead of the recommended ¾ teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda and expected an issue with bake.
To my relief and surprise the cake/loaf was well risen, moist, dark and really unctuous and the addition of the ginger syrup over the top raised the finished bake up a notch.
Thanks for an easy and informative video and your enthusiasm shines through.
Yes yes 🙌 girl love it 😻
Has anyone noticed when Sally cracks eggs she does it like a Disney princess? This cake looks phenomenal! Can't wait to try it! Am 36 weeks pregnant and baking all the things, I'm calling it nesting haha! All these videos are class!
Right! I was half expecting some singing birds to fly away with the eggshells😄
Thanks for posting the video was so helpful ☺ I made this tonight but did it with gluten free flour and soya milk 🥛 didn't use the treacle in it and had brown sugar instead followed the steps and turned out great and my kitchen smells amazing 😋 xx
Literally drooling

I’ve just made this….it smells delicious…the recipe is fabulous the cake looks and tastes amazing Thankyou
I'd made this cake for my Dad, few days back, to celebrate his 57th Birthday. I was kinda confused if we would like the taste of it or not ( since it's kinda different than general cake flavors). Now I have to say, THANK YOU SO MUCH to CupcakeJemma & the team members for this amazing cake recipe!! This 'Jamaican Ginger Loaf Cake' is worth to try.
Love & best wishes from Bangladesh!!!
I made this on the weekend and it turned out so well! I'm in Canada so I used molasses, and I couldn't find golden syrup anywhere but found a recipe online and made my own. I also baked my loaf at 325F for 60 minutes and it was done (any longer and it would have been overdone). Hope these tips help others out there!
Yes same here.
Thanks for writing this, I tried this cake for the first time today, checked on it after 60min and it was perfectly done!
Reminds me of a really good date loaf...but I will definitely be giving this a try... yummmm
Living in Australia for 20 years and they don't have the jamaican ginger cake I used to eat back in Ireland when I was younger. Just made this and its exactly how I remember it. Thanks heaps!
It is really good. Just baked it. Thanks!
I made this today and omg its delicious thanks for this great recipe
Well I'm AWFUL at baking and after following your recipe to the gram, my cake came out perfect and tastes incredible!! THANK YOU!!!!
You guys rock. I wished I lived in the UK and worked for you. I would be in heaven. Former chocolatier tired of doing IT Data Architecture work. Food is the best medicine.
I can't wait to try this recipe this afternoon.
I can almost smell how good it is!!
Love this video thank you looks lovely will diffinately try this thank you for sharing
Made it last night had it with rum and raisin ice cream lovely.
I made this for the first time today and it turned out wonderfully! This is an absolutely perfect recipe, doesn’t need any tweeks, it’s very easy to make and the cake is so yummy with a lovely sticky, chewy top. Actually tastes very, very like the McVities version. I’m delighted with this simple recipe and classic caje which is now part of my repertoire! I didn’t make the syrup, but I don’t think it needs it, but I will try it next time, if I can find fresh ginger.
I am the worst baker but I gritted my teeth and gave it one more go. Perfect recipe 👌 My cake looks exactly the same as yours and it's delicious. Thank you 😊
""A first class lesson , great recipe , have just put one in the oven many thanks ,and regards from Dublin.""
Superb 😍
Hello sally. This looks delicious sally thank you so much for sharing this recipe. Thank you for sharing . Greeting to Jemma Hope she is fine and her baby. watching from Italy.
Looks so good! I love ginger! I do enjoy your tutorials too! I am hoping for some more of those New York cookie recipes without chocolate! Maybe peanut butter and or oatmeal?
My mum used to get the shop bought kind, slice it in half and fill with cream and bananas wirh lemon juice over them. Top with same.. delicious desert.
Made this cake and it was the best ginger cake ever. I put some of the syrup over but was cautious in case it was too soapy but I should have put more. We had it with butter and custard. Lovely. I am making it again this weekend. Will try and take a photo but technology may defeat me. Make this cake you will love it
It was a gorgeous cake! Many thanks 👌
You're so sweet and adorable, I could watch you cooking all day! 😍😍
This is sweet, thank you xx
Making this for my 89 year-old grandma today. I'm separated from her right now because we don't want her to get sick and I miss sharing bakes with her. Can't wait to share this special cake recipe, I think she will flip!
Yum! I can't wait to make this! (Once I can get my hands on some plain flour)
Rachel Gigg you can use grinded oats if you have that xx
@@positivity699 Thank you, I'll bare it in mind for next time! The next day my lovely neighbor brought me some flour! :)
Awww Mon! And here I was just *LOAFING* around!
I made a ginger cake yesterday..( not this one but a family recipe ) the method is almost identical but I add 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne as well as 2 teaspoons of ginger. and allspice as well as the cinnamon.. I used a traybake tin … lovely with custard when it’s a few days old. Or with butter on …I don’t put a glaze on. 😊🇬🇧
Literally making this right this second, couldn't help myself!
Sammy Rose yeasss!!!! Xxx
What are your thoughts? Did it turn out well?
Your recipe are very useful and so delicious...it really help me
Cant wait to try it. Thanks sally. It looks enticing
Im gonna try it and i am alzo going upload the video on my channel
Omg made this yesterday it was delicious I did the syrup too and so worth doing that also
I made this and it was lovely. I did do the sticky syrup but to be honest I would prefer icing sugar. It was great buttered and as a pudding with custard
Was so pleased as I’m dairy free and tried this with soya milk and it still came out amazing 😀
I meant to put dairy free butter not soya milk
My fav, yum, yum , yum 😋
Omg I am so early..... 🤤🤤🤤🤤Looks amazing
Try it with a slice of cheddar cheese! I like the sweet 'n' saltiness of this incredibly rich combination!
Thank you bringing so much joy to us in these tricky times!
Stuart Mayes whaaaat??? This sounds so mad I have to try it! X
Sally Dells Hi Sally, thanks so much for taking time to reply! Give it a go and let me know! Try a medium cheddar - nothing too strong! A crumbly white cheese can be great with fruitcake ... always a winter favourite with me
This works well. Banana cream too.
I made this cake and it was lovely. I used a spiced pumpkin syrup for the drizzle as I had been making turkish pumpkin dessert . I will make this cake again.
This looks fab. I would have to leave it in my neighbor's house under a padlock to get it at it's best. And yep... custard.😋
Thanks for the recipe. I have all these ingredients in, so I will give it ago. xx
lucky you to have the treacle😁
Made this a few days ago and it was delicious! Had no treacle so just used golden syrup and reduced the dark sugar just a little as well. Skipped the drizzle but it was perfect with a nice cuppa tea. It was all finished within a few hours!
Quick question, since you only used golden syrup did you use just 115g of syrup or did you double it to 230g to make up for the treacle?
This looks delicious
Can’t wait to try this. I’m out of lockdown baking ideas. Thanks for the inspiration ☺️
Baker Like Anita hey name twin😂👋🏾
😊😊😊😊😊😊
Anita M heeeey ☺️😄💛

Making this tonight 😍😍
Best baker of the world
Hello! Can you pls teach us the difference of sugars (caster, powdered, refined, regular, etc.) and when to use them? Thank youu
Caster sugar is finer than regular
Powdered sugar is well in powder form but it also has extra constancy to prevent clumping
Refined sugar is the same as regular
I normally use regular sugar in recipes that call for it but also in recipes that call for caster as they are so similar
And powdered sugar is used in icing and American butter cream
Hope this helps!
Here are more specific descriptions:
Coarseness (for coarsest to finest)
-Demerara sugar/muscovado sugar
-brown sugar, light or dark
-granulated sugar, or regular refined sugar
-caster sugar (British) /superfine sugar (American)
-icing sugar/confectioners sugar/powdered sugar
Flavour profile:
Demerara, muscovado, and brown sugar = molasse-y, caramel-y flavour and makes things chewy
Granulated/caster/icing sugar = flavourless and helps things spread
Use of sugars:
demerara, muscovado, brown = generally used in spiced baked goods or streusel toppings
granulated/caster = used in regular baked goods and as a common sweetener
icing = used in macarons or icings
Ingredients:
light brown sugar = white sugar + a little molasses
dark brown sugar = white sugar + a lot of molasses
icing sugar = white sugar ground finer + cornstarch
Hope this helps :)
Omg. That looks so delicious 🤤🤤🤤🤤 I’ll try to make it vegan
Try subbing mashed banana for the eggs.
