    I was looking for an easy freezer jam recipe and came across your’s.
    I tried it today. First, a single recipe and then with a double batch and used an apple with a bit less sugar. I used raspberries, blueberries and Saskatoon berries. I just wanted to tell you it turned out delicious and was easy to make.
    Thank you for the great instructions!

    I’ve done this with cherries, figs,watermelon rind, pear and apple. Apples have a lot of pectin. I’ll have to try the mixed berry! If it doesn’t set properly you certainly have some wonderful syrup. I love that you can control the sugar. Yours looks delicious!

    • @adrienneburroughs5777
      @adrienneburroughs5777 3 роки тому

      Peel the rind and cut into cubes. I then proceed just like you were making pear or apple preserves. I think they do best if you let the rind sit in the refrigerator overnight with the sugar and then start the cooking process. Add a little lemon juice like you did with the berries. The rind will become clear looking as it cooks and the juice will thicken. Like the berries you just have to keep stirring and watching. Check for thickness like you did with the berries! Hope you try them. They are a Southern favorite here in North Carolina!

    Loved your video, the simplicity! I had picked up some frozen blackberries today for my first ever attempt at this (after watching a friend make some red raspberry jam). She added Chia seeds too, & since I have some on hand, I will do the same. Looking forward to my first toasted English muffin with cream cheese & homemade blackberry jam. Thanks again for your video, I subbed too.

    The frozen spoon/plate method is really great! Just be careful, as the frozen plate may break when it comes into contact with hot jam. I made jam in the past, but it's been a long time. Now I will surely get it to the right consistency. Cheers!

      @@HomemakingontheHomestead I did 2 kgs of frozen mixed berries with about 1.3kg of sugar this morning. I used all the tips. I think I left it slightly too long but it is set. My husband tells me it is perfect and as it should be, but I think it could be a tiny bit less set. I will check your video for my next batch. The shape of bubbles you mentioned is so true. BTW I don’t even eat any jam or marmalade. 😇 but the family ( and friends) likes it.

    • @HomemakingontheHomestead

      The only way the jam would be shelf stable is if you canned it. You would can it in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Then it could be stored on a shelf. -Crystal 🙂

    Could i substitute honey for sugar ?

    • @HomemakingontheHomestead
      @HomemakingontheHomestead  8 місяців тому +1

      Honey usually requires less than sugar by about half. It can have an effect on jam that is made with pectin. With this jam I really don't know if it would be a problem as I've never done it. I would test it by making a small batch and see how it turn out. If it doesn't work you can always use your test batch as syrup on pancakes!

    Hi, do you have any recipe for making frozen peaches into jam without pectin? I haven't found any videos or recipes specifically for frozen peaches.
    I love peaches & froze a bunch from farm. Not as fond of them after frozen so hoping to make into simple jam without pectin. Since you say berries & citrus have different levels of pectin in them, I am thinking peaches may be different & need it's own recipe?

    • @HomemakingontheHomestead
      @HomemakingontheHomestead  3 роки тому +2

      Yes you can make peach jam from frozen peaches. The weight will be the same, 4lbs per batch. Peaches have a lot of natural pectin them.

    • @HomemakingontheHomestead
      @HomemakingontheHomestead  8 місяців тому

      Yes you can thaw the fruit and you can halve the recipe. Since there is no pectin in the recipe you are basically cooking down your fruit and sugar to allow the natural pectin that's in the fruit to thicken it.
