I always enjoy it when speedrun documentary channels get to talk about their own accomplishments :)
I love it when it's a cold surprise reveal, always has the same Chad energy as Fredrick Knudson's hurdy gurdy video.
@Metaknight145 Or the plot twist in the Hobbit speedrun documentary
It's crazy to think that, once upon a time, you were the guy wondering if another player was out of your league. Look at you now, bro. Awesome video; loved it.
Ty Usual
Loved the respect and admiration for Lapogne. He brought competition, cooperation, and seemingly just being a good dude to the Jak 3 scene in it's infancy
Yea he was nothing but respectful back then and still now he does a lot of work in the TAS field for the scene.
EPISODE 2 IS HERE!!! 🎉 NOW WE HAVE A SERIES ROLLING. Appreciate all the time and effort as always Rix 💋
Crazy how we're not only getting the next part of the Jak 3 history, but also a kind of origin story. Well done! Especially the Sly 1 reference at the end.
This series, man! This series is something to behold! Every video is just a whole new learning experience. It's so satisfying watching the time go down little by little, chunk by chunk, minute by minute, second by second! I've always been a fan of your speedgame progression videos, so to see one of my favorite games getting a whole series on it, sure makes me a happy camper! Keep up the amazing work, Ricky! 😎👉👉
Thanks karl!
@@ThaRixer did you live in America for a decade? Why isn't there a hint of danish in your accent?
Jeg ved ikke bror...
@@Spurgtenæh
22:04 nice Sly 1 reference
actually cant get over the split difficulty symbols lmao
RUN KILLER 💀
The era of teh urn FrankerZ
This video was so tightly-scripted, but my favourite moment was the 'I had never tried to be good at anything in my life, but this taught me I had to work for it'. We've all had that moment of realising we could be BETTER at something... if we just put in the hours. Really looking forward to the next parts:)
Another banger as always. By the time I got near the end, I was thinking “wait, it’s almost over? Aww.” I’m eagerly anticipating every following part, this is gonna be incredible once it is all done.
Tha man is revealed!! Stellar storytelling dawg, you got me waiting on these next parts like crazy. Can't wait to see where this story goes!!
👀
This is such an odd corner of the internet that I’m only tangentially associated with.
I’ve played all these games in my childhood but I never once speed run.
Still, the level of impressive problem solving for such old gems gives me so much pride for the ps1 and ps2 era.
These videos are a perfect mix of nostalgia hit and newly investigatory.
PART II BABY LETSGO
As someone who was there watching you at ESA, and was there for the Jak 3 stream where you got your first sub-1 hour, it's amazing to see just how far you've come over the years. The game had to go in terms of being broken at this point! You and Laponge were pioneers, no question. I couldn't even do Temple Skip right, lmao.
So, judging by these two videos, this series will be three and a half hours in total. Longer than almost any movie.
I'm basically watching an inordinately lengthy documentary on a game I've never played and am somehow hooked anyway.
I've come to learn that a decent amount of Speedrun history videos can come to around the 3 hour mark, and they are WELL worth it. I'm keen to see the full thing once all the videos are done
try watching bismuths documentary on super mario 64's A button challenge
it nears the 6 hour mark, and is amazing throughout
@@secretmeister I tried watching something of his about SM64 ABC once and it seemed like just a rehashing of Pannenkoek's vids
Hearing ‘Valley of the Howling Winds’ from Yugioh Capsule Monsters halfway through was amazing. Makes me wonder why there aren’t more speedruns of that game
I found your UA-cam channel around 2012-2013 and casually lurked your UA-cam and twitch since then. It’s actually wild to see this entire Jak 3 history get turned into a saga, and I want to thank you for taking the time to make all these
really sick to see your early history with the game. cant wait for Era III 🔥
man it brings nostalgia hearing you talk about how you got started, i wasnt there from the very start but since you were 17 im pretty sure and its just amazing to see how far you have gotten from speedrunning days
Wow, this came out earlier than I expected
It's been such a cool series so far
I love it when you give the music and the visuals space to breathe. The section starting around 13:10 is great.
Thanks it was awesome to edit
Those speedrun documentary are so amazing, I cannot wait for Era III !!! :)
Thanks for the video, greetings from Belgium.
THIS SERIES IS SO HYPE
Loved part 2 of this series dude! im already looking forward to the next episode 🥳
It gives me endless joy to hear you talk about yourself like this
It's amazing to see the routes getting progressively closer to the one we have today. But my favourite thing is seeing skips that I had never heard about since they have been obsolete for a long time, before I even started watching speedeuns. I love this series so much!
Yea the Lapogne/Me era was almost entirely limited to the two of us. There was no one else who wanted to attempt speedruns of the game in 2012 except for us two aside from a few races on SRL by musiccontrol. That's why this video has no interviews as well because the only people who could tell you the story from 2012 is me or Lapogne.
love the vids man keep it up they make me wanna get into speed running as i have been slowly been losing interest in games and find myself going back to older titles
A must watch series. Great video
You're my favourite youtuber of all time, and i've been watching youtube for 15 years now. Keep giving me that nostalgia kick from my absolute favourite games ever :)
Sheeesh thanks man
Love the video (especially since I followed these events at the time as well). Somehow Jak 3 is a game I never really owned or played but really enjoyed watching and that's likely because of your early runs. Keep killin' it.
Thanks Pete! You're actually in the background of that ESA 2013 run
@@ThaRixer Yeah, can't unsee myself there lol. I remember being really sleepy for some reason but still wanted to watch it.
I love how you're so proud and enjoyed that someone beat your record. it's a good attitude!
I see you, referencing the opening cutscene of Sly 1 in that last line "...or fail, allow myself to bite the dust." Nice touch.
Awesome Video! Cant wait for more!
Ricky, I've been watching you since like 2013 and I am so proud of how much your channel and content has grown. This Jak series is awesome!
I had to pause and rewind when I recognized that song from Capsule Monster Coliseum.
I didn't know anything about Jak speedruns until Ricky. I'm surprised to see the hoverboard glitch was discovered so late that it hasn't even shown up in the doc yet.
Jak 2/3 were my favorites as a kid. Please keep this up I loved these games and the stories are incredible!
Noticing the JPEG of eggs has the same energy to me as watching old Summoningsalt videos and keeping your eyes peeled for the calendar stock images.
Every time one of these speedrun documentary channels does the lead-in to reveal the next runner and it's them, the ensuing "IT'S ME, BITCH" always goes hard. Thanks for that Rixer, lol.
The speech at the 15:50 should deserve more attention for sure.
Personally I'm not a speedrunner. At all. Partly because I just haven't found "that game" for me yet, but also because (for now) I lack this thing that I do believe is required in order for you to be a good runner. The ability to fight off your instincts and making up for it by exceuting whatever it is that you adapt on on the fly. To have the courage that when you trip and fall you instead push yourself to take one more extra step, thus preventing you to fall.
Sure, you can build up to this in time and via constant practice and all that, but the initial step to it is a big one and it never ceases to amaze me to see great runners do stuff I would only dream of doing, simply in order to save a second, if even that.
“Bring over 2 and half minutes ahead, it was looking g….” 😭😭😭😭 I’m so dead
the commitment of a speedrunner is sometimes scary
This may be unrelated, but I do hope that they make a sequel. There are still so many questions and stories to tell. Just one on top of my head is having Young Jak that traveled back in time be the one that falls into the Dark Eco instead of Daxter and becomes a villain. That Daxter would find a way to open the time portal back to warn the future older Jak at that point that his past self is coming. Young Jak can bring with him the Dark Makers and actually give us more context and lore about them too. Always felt those entities were extremely rushed and we just know more about their weapons rather about them as a species.
gonna have to start booking cinemas for these with the quality you're pumping out boss. 3-9 gonna go crazy 🔥🥶
Loved the Sly Cooper reference at the end
God the capsule monster coliseum music is so good
these docs are some of the most interesting, funny and well made video's on this platform. thank you.
Man, your the greatest youtuber/speedruner I know! You always put in the effort when making your videos and it looks amazing! Things like this inspires me to start speedruning.
I can't wait for the supercut/playlist of all parts once they're all out! Following along as they're coming out!
At this point it's just funny seeing the quality back in the early days of speedrunning. Grabbing the first Google image you can find for splits? Brilliant, I don't know why that was changed. The image of eggs was actual perfection.
Love the use of "Valley of Howling Winds" from Capsule Monster Coliseum at 13:10
DANG, this came out ONE DAY before the 10 year anniversary of your ESA run.
cheers man, that probably also means just over 10 years since I started watching your streams
the ilj goat
Hell yea slaughter, you've been around for a minute my man. Thanks for watching the series
Really enjoying the series!
Great video! It super important to document these events, they give great context for newer runners!
Man... The SSX3 ost at the start... Idk if there is somenthing cool to talk about in a video but i ll love maybe an ssx3 speedrun history or somenthing like that.
I'm dealing with a lot of crap right now, so I thank you with all of my heart for this very welcome distraction.
Always love the background music choices, especially the Capsule Monsters track @ 13:00
the mention of imaspeedrunner takes me back. I think the only one I tuned into back in the day was IAS5 because I was super into Crash Bandicoot, and thats where I first saw you. Good times!
Loving this series! Looking forward to the next 7 episodes. Can’t believe the record is now sub 20 minutes
I can't wait to see the next chapter. Amazing video btw
I LOVE all of your uploads! Very happy to see whenever you do
That final line heh, cheeky Sly Cooper reference?
Its funny watching this video because I know of Lapogne not from Jak, but from Fire Emblem. Kinda amused me when I realized where I had heard the name before and was like "oh yeah he made the Thracia TAS" lol.
Really good work. Love the series so far❤
So stoked for the next one! This series is amazing 👌
Great Video! Can't wait for the next part!! I started watching you back in 2013 and so glad I came across your runs! 👍👍👍
Love the tracks used in this video, amazing video as always Ricky 🤠💯
Bro, you have an amazing talent for these documentaries. Keep 'em coming!
Also, 11:25 Chill song from the Spider-Man 2 game. Great taste in music!
Great stuff as usual.
And again, gotta shout out that Capsule Monsters music usage. Really well-timed with the footage too.
Absolutely loving this series and it's prompted me to go through your back catalogue.
Love your work. And I'd love to see a History of Dark Souls speedrunning some day :)
Can’t wait to see how the rest of this series plays out!
Thank you for this content Ricky!
Also, you’re such a kind soul to others deserving of it but don’t forget to be just as kind to yourself
Is good to see that this games still get some love after all this time. Can`t wait to see more!
love this game and love this series! cant wait for the rest to come out!! :)
Been really enjoying this series keep it up rixer.
This was amazing. you really had a starting legacy there. kind of sad that lapogne just disappeared though
ricky ive been watching you in the background for years. its so amazing to see these videos. it kinda takes me back a little bit like im watching an old friend after high school
Absolutely great video as always. Just perfect
Never been into speedruns but I played jak games so much i got hooked last time and I was so invested when started competing
Lapogne really just came back and hosted a dunk competition on your WR and peaced out what a chad
I'm loving this man
Nice Sly reference at the end
Love your videos man, I miss gaming in the 2000s.
So excited for all the eras!!!
Ready for the conclusion!
I never would have guessed you were from Denmark considering your dominance of the English language! You sound like you're from Kansas
Just started watching and these videos are great looking forward to the rest 👍
"uhmm... Go ahead and check"
When I say I SCREAMED LMAOOOO
Love that you're back again
Can’t wait to see the next part! Love me some good Jak content
12:16 Ladies and Gentlemen the great thing about these videos on speedruns, and this mans videos specifically as well, is how much history you can see in the background while being presented other history(ies) at the same time.
This move right here.
Things like this are what evolve through runs, like for example without people and clips like these making moves like this I imagine barrier skip could've potentially gone a longer time before being discovered. And to me that's crazy.
This is pretty much the baby version of barrier skip. And to see it in the making so long ago without anyone knowing it, is wonderfully insane. I love speedrunning, whether watching or participating
ThaRixer continuing to near singlehandedly shoulder the burden of "Speedrun docs for games that aren't Nintendo" on his own
Awesome video Ricky!
Bite the dusto
Also so glad i found your channel at first i thought i found somebody who just logs the awesome history of 3d game speedruns(which i cant find enough on here). But i was shocked to see you come into the picture!
Great stuff! Looking forward to the next part!
Ty osukarui!
Super video, you saved my evening
Loved it, cant wait for ERA III
I was waiting for him to bring up this god of speedrunning Jak, ThaRixer
"UM go ahead and check" LMAO im crying
