@NGPlusVideos 26:39 - 26:46 The ship isn't trapped and is not ''freed''. The laser puzzle is done so the green barier around the green teleporter goes away. And by using that green teleporter one can get to the other moon.
It was such a blast to do this challenge together Nathan. Thank you so much for sitting with me and being willing to learn all the weird, crazy stuff we do in runs. It's not every day you find someone so willing to give everything a go, but I hope your example inspires others. You don't need 10k hours in the Ratchet games to have fun, you just need to be very stubborn >:)
I am nothing if not stubborn! Thanks a lot for your help on this one, certainly couldn't have done it without you. I look forward to your own video on this so we can see it from your perspective 🥳
Speedruns and challenges like this never cease to amaze. I can't even fathom how something like the Qwarp could even have been found given how ridiculously specific and almost random it seems.
I like to imagine that there's a German somewhere out there in the world that is just so unbelievably bad at this game that they stumbled upon it entirely by accident.
bro the twin moon planet glitch literally had my jaw drop. the fact that they designed the game in such a way that it's possible to happen is even more crazy
Likely, storing the two moons on the same map, but really far apart was simpler than keeping them on separate maps, since then they'd either have to add a loading screen or add a map preload system.
I'm so glad you got to collab with xem, he's a real legend. I remember seeing him doing crazy out of bounds stuff on stream almost a month ago now, cool to learn why he was doing it
The reason Ratchet’s double jump is buffed in Up Your Arsenal is to make the Heli-Pack an equal alternative to the Thruster Pack. In both the first and second games the Thruster Pack buffs Ratchet’s double jump height, which made sense for the first game since the Thruster Pack is a necessary upgrade over the Heli-Pack. Going Commando just lets you pick between the two as a preference, but the Thruster Pack retained its buffed double jump over the Heli-Pack, so while it may not be necessary it’s still the superior choice. Up Your Arsenal fixed this issue by always giving Ratchet his buffed double jump.
Thank you! For anyone else reading this, check out this guy's Challenge videos. They're a breath of fresh air amidst the other repetitive ones I keep seeing 🥳
Qwarp sounds so much like a playground rumor "Dude I swear this works! To skip that level, you have to change the language to german and then go to the previous level then die at least once and get to the end before the enemies do" Like, how do people even find this stuff out 😂
i thought this was a novel speedrum for the game and came out really well. I appreciate you showing the skips you didn't use. Good luck finishing FFVIII no junction!
It takes a special kind of dedicated to learn that you can use the camera itself as a way to do a skip because it is its own object with hit detection. Great video - informative AND entertaining, and of a game I remember fondly.
This video was wild. One thing I'd recommend is a "DEMO" visual during points where an example is being used like Gamechamp has. It can take the brain a minute to keep up with the video, and I ended up confused when I saw some wild side-flips during glitch presentations.
The UA-cam gods just introduced me to your channel with this video I paused this one when you mentioned the first two videos in this series, watched those, and came back to this one to say that I really really appreciate someone who makes videos on challenge runs where you concisely explain tricks and take the time to show bonus tricks that aren't a part of the main challenge Great stuff, dude
Awesome vid Nathan! It was really cool to show someone the craziness we can achieve in this game. If anyone watching is interested in learning some of these tricks for themselves. I'd recommend my speedrun tutorial series and Curpling's movement guide: Speedrun tutorial: ua-cam.com/play/PLn9YM-3N2oZJV76d4BzwwAlH9xPw1YYDi.html Movement guide: ua-cam.com/video/EO6xVOImemI/v-deo.html
I'm in love with all this R&C content, it's truly one of the more nostalgic series from my childhood and seeing people play it in new ways decades later is great
The thing I like the most about UA-cam these days is that challenge runs became very popular. I love seeing games I love and games from my childhood beaten with absurd restrictions. The ratchet series in particular is one my favorite of all time in gaming so I’m happy you’re doing vids on them ❤
The Rachet & Clank games have been around since my childhood which are the good parts of it, and seeing how much effort being put into it via these challenges warms my heart & makes me see the games in a new light on "how can I change the way _I_ play this game?"
This was so cool to watch. I had one thing that i noiced. Around 17:06 seconds I believe I saw a jump when you were going over the holo bridge. Still an amazing thing that people know how to mess with the game this much
Not gonna lie, I’ve watched this multiple times now and I still can’t get over the fact that the qwarp is done by not just dying on Veldin, but also changing the language settings to German specifically (and possibly Spanish)
Apparently it's due to a deleted cutscene on that planet, and it not having any data for some languages. So it skips to the next "event", which is the Quark fight. Something like that
You know it really makes ya appreciate the "jump" button. Without it you always gotta do so much more just to get over a simple ledge. Fun video and good job btw
Oh charge cancels make me so nostalgic. I discovered that trick as a kid and had so much fun zooming around like that. We also found ghost ratchet and abused the heck out of it in multiplayer. Once one of our mates had seen a video where someone did a proxy and spent our whole gaming time charging into walls but could never get it to work :D
I know exactly what you mean. When the game still had online servers some people taught me how to do the charge cancel to get across the bridges on Korgon Outpost to get across the bridges without using the bolt cranks and hypershot targets in order to cross them with less risk. They also taught me how to do Ghost Ratchet and other things on that map.
Idk Nathan, sure looks like Ratchet jumps up onto those ledges he's clinging onto... For real though, I'm only partway through and this is a treat to watch. I love how you give insight into Speedrun strats that aren't even relevant to the challenge. Quite kind and intriguing.
23:24 Whats ironic is that as a kid I accidentally discovered how to do this because I was adamant about constantly beating my time for the training course. It was pretty cool seeing this method used here
you kept setting up these impossible obstacles that in any other "no ___" challenge would be the sole low point in a vid, either ending the run or coming back with a hype glitch to get around it. You and Xem did that like 20 times! I couldn't believe some of them like the swim in air glitch and clank skips. The multiple skips were also greatly useful and interesting. not only was it possible, but in SEVERAL different ways!
This is what i call quality content! Its so amazing to see these crazy challenges, but mad props to you for actually doing it. I would probably give up after like 5 minutes XD
That was very good. I give you props for having the patience to get through this run. Out of the 4 ps2 games, this one is just behind 2 but it was still a very fun game.
19:43 Not sure if you'll see this, but you can do this part without a jump as well-- a more simplified way without any glitches anyhow. As with a lot of things, the way ratchet leaves water is pretty weird. Ratchet doesn't seem to register hitting the surface for a short amount of time. There's even a frame or two right around 19:47 when he pops up, but since you were moving slowly you can't tell well. You don't need the hydropack, so it works in RaC 1 as well, you can get slightly more air time with it; without the pack you just have to time the fast part of Ratchet's stroke as he's leaving the surface-- honestly, if the timing was different he would've probably grabbed the ledge there. I always just swam straight up and the moment before hitting the surface I start swimming down full power. I swear he'd look like a dolphin. Ultimately, you just need to go straight up and ratchet will grab the ledge on his own, but you can also hyperstrike; if you need to, swim down some as you leave the water before it registers Ratchet being outside of it. There's of course a ladder, but I couldn't reach it, so I assume a turret jump would be needed. I say this knowing full well that no sane person would attempt doing another run like this, but still It's nice having this obscure pointless knowledge actually have some relevance, even if it's not used. I'm assuming it works on both versions of the game. That said, I do enjoy seeing how you and Xem managed to squeeze around obstacles that seem impassible; really fun video
How convoluted this is just goes to show how much of a platforming game Ratchet 3 still is, despite it being more combat focused. My favourite Ratchet game.
the 'Quarp warp' is so far-fetched and unusual, it sounds like the kind of speedrun strat you'd make up to describe crazy strats to non-gamer friends... only this one is yet another that is just how it actually is. How people discover these sorts of over-specific game strategies will always be one of mankinds greatest mysteries.
10:46 Hobbyist programmer / gamedev here. The fact that it's Spanish and German that works for this bug is a tiny bit of a clue. If I had to guess, it would probably have to do with some instance of improperly cultured string-float conversion, where a string is converted to a decimal (or vice versa) incorrectly, as in those "cultures" (programming term here) the use of periods and commas are flipped (so a serialized string written as 10.5 might be instead read as 105, or a string previously written as 10,500 would be read as 10.5 for a couple examples...)

I love that the solution to "Not being able to jump over prop cars" is to unmake reality and forcibly fuse two planets together.
With an incredibly specific technique that you get ONE TRY PER ACCOUNT
Half jump butt stairs Mario runs eat your spaghetti out.
