48 minutes? And this is only Part 3/9?
You never cease to impress us all, Ricky.
3/9?? Shit. That's crazy
So well done. idk how you managed to make my crappy webcam video still feel epic lol.
Thanks bdub
W bdub
Happy to finally see Blahpy in some big Jak history videos. They did so much for the Jak speedrunning scene.
Blahpy was and still is so influential to the game yea
Aww thanks, you're too kind. It was a pleasure to be interviewed :)
Blahpy is multiple people?
l have to say, as much as l love your previous speedrun history videos, this series has truly been a cut above the rest so far, providing all of the information that came with your close and enduring involvement in the community while still trying to keep an objective retelling in spite of it.
As a pure stranger to the Jak speedrun community, l'm not sure if you'll stay closely involved all the way through the next 6 videos, but l can at least tell from their interviews that the other runners still see you fondly to this day, and isn't that what everyone always says is best at the end of the day -- that the world records were the friends you made along the way?
Big words man thank you, and very true. I keep making Jak videos because the community is amazing. For over a decade I've felt very welcome there
Sick, keep em coming.
7:42 happy my years of typing "hey youtube" in twitch chat finally paid off
That's legendary lol
Its awesome to see such a detailed look at the community. This series isn't just a WR history, but a detailed look at a whole community effort to beat the game as fast as possible. Loving it.
Ty Katsis :)
Great stuff! Loved the personal story and great editing as always!
Thanks osukarui!
I havent seen any jak speedruns before this series but you still manage to make them understandable and extreemly entertaining. Great job on the series!
Awesome to hear man, thank you so much
fantastic work Ricky. Everything about this video is incredible, but I especially love how you talked about the struggle glitch hunters can face in games. 97% of the time I've tried hunting for new strats I've come up short, but some might just see the other 3% and think it's easy. Can't wait for Era IV
I'm glad you apprecaited that bin, thanks for all the support and great contributions to this game
Omg this series is great. Im not even part of the speedrunning community, but this is just so good that i cant stop watching and cant wait for the time, when you release the next part. Keep up the amazing work!!
Thanks! Means a lot that people outside of speedrunning love the series too
How are there 6 parts left, and 5 more major runners according to the fame chart thingy?!? this is just incredibly well put together
this series is gonna be insane. video 3 of 9????
Healthy competition at its finest, it's so cool to see the dust settle with one breaking new milestone ground, but the other catching up and holding a better run for the time being.
Was a blast watching through, despite the large expectations you never disappoint brother 🫡
Typhles 😌
Watching this documentary got me thinking how many cool stories would be behind every speedrun community. I'm pretty sure this kind of videos take a lot of work but I hope more people get inspired and tell us more stories about their beloved games
Congratz on the series, I'm loving every part of it
There are lots! I would check out the WR History about MediEvil on PS1, a video by Pap. It's been gripping me lately
Growing up I always enjoyed escaping into the world of Jak and Daxter. In those days it didn’t even really occur to me that people would want to speed run Jak. Kid me was too busy trying not to die and deep down never wanting the game to end. It’s been really fun to see how interest and obsession with classic games lives on long after the credits roll. Thanks for the amazing content!
Jak & Daxter The Precursor Legacy was the very first game I played on ps2. The awe and childlike wonder I felt while playing that for the first time cannot even be matched by how I just felt while watching you and the other Jak 3 speed runners just tear this game up ❤ much love and respect
"I basically threw mud at the wall to see what would stick, if I didnt, I would loose out on 10 seconds and reset into oblivion."
im loving this series, it gets to point where im thinking there is no way this can be improved upon right? then i remember there are 6 more episodes to come and that speed runners have such a unique way of looking at how to manipulate games
This is the part when I got into twitch to watch my childhood game being spedrunned. It was entertaining to see new records down to sub 40. Great times.
Simply Amazing. I always find it so interesting to learn about the history of speedruns. I can't wait for all the other parts of this!
I find the evolution of the movement used really fascinating! I joined the Jak speedrunning community in 2017-2018 and a lot of things like jetboard movement wherever possible was something every runner did and was mastering/mastered at the time. Seeing how the jetboard wasn't used much at first, to then go to people like Bdub and Raccoon mastering certain sections with it, and now seeing how much it's currently used throughout Jak 2 and Jak 3 just blows my mind.
Yea especially sections like eco mine, bomb train and palace ruins the jetboarding has really come along way.
I love the build-up to your new profile picture being revealed. This was definitely worth the wait.
U have no idea how much I'm enjoying this
Absolutely adore these types of videos.
I remember attempting many failed speed runs of the Jak series in my youth and watching these made me wanna try again
Give it a try man, it's really not that bad to get into, especially Jak 1 is quite beginner friendly
Amazing work on this series so far, I can't imagine just how much stuff there still is to unravel with 6 more eras!
Have never played a single Jak game in my life but anxiously wait for each part of this series. Excellent stuff.
Crazy to think that this series is 1/3 completed can’t wait to see what happens next will definitely have to rewatch all parts when the whole series becomes available. Excited for the future, great job as always Ricky. 🤟
If there is something I've learned from watching all these different sppedrun history type videos, it's that no matter how far you've think you've come. No matter how many tricks and glitches are found. It's never the end
📠📠
I always loved the soundtrack's Ricky uses in those videos, and I didn't know that one of my local rap guys used "FF7 Find your way" as a beat.
The work is great, we are all enjoying it so much as you when creating them
I'm addicted to this. I love it so much. Can't wait for the next part.
I can't believe this was all 9 or 10 years ago. Time flies so fast.
I'm definitely gonna love the rest of the series. I remember Jak 3 being one of my first PS2 games back like 10+ years ago
It's truly amazing how happy and lifting these videos are. It's more than a documentary of a speedrun it's a story that builds upon years and years of experience from not just one person but many professionals who, without this series, many wouldn't even know existed. Can't wait for the next episode!
This is the best documentary I've every seen
Absolutely my favorite era of Jak 3, the rivalry and competition back then in 2014 is honestly like nothing else I think I've ever seen in any speedgame and I think it's what truly got me invested in the hobby
Happy to inspire foas, I'm glad you've stuck around man
God, I love Jak and Daxter. It’s so unique. No other game like, a perfect piece preserved in amber.
Your videos have been a blast from a past. I remember watching your ratchet and clank streams, jak and daxter, sly ten years ago. I remember you getting a wr in jak 3 on stream and you were so excited you asked “what’s 9+10? 21 minutes b*tch”. I’m glad you never went anywhere, I just saw greatness in you, to take over the world if you wanted
The love, the dedication, the storytelling of these videos is amazing. As a former Jak x speedrunner, and i discovered the world of speedrunning from you, i can't thank you enough for these pieces of history you are telling to all of us! Can't wait for part IV, keep it up dude, you're awesome
glad to see the anti-"content" renaissance. People are starting to take time again, to make videos they can be proud of. Sad the algorithm isn't picking it all up though. dont give up. this is gold
What a series... What a game... Can't wait for more episodes!
This is insane to see! I love this series, and awesome to see my comment in the Twich chat from back then, after 2014 I got really busy and stopped watching Twitch as much, so really looking forward to the next few parts after I stopped watching as much!
sooner or later the any % category part of this story will end and will move onto other categories but just jeeze how fast the WR just dropped
I love the use of the Sea mage music from Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories to start the video ❤❤❤❤
Love the content, never done a speed run in my life but it’s so entertaining to see the limits be tested.
Im watching this instead of playing Starfield, so you know you made some FIRE with this series man. Editing is SOOO good! You keep us on the edge of our seat, and really recreate the feeling of being surprised by the successes and failures. Amazing job Ricky
I love these so muuuuuch!!! Great freaking work Ricky, this series is exactly what I would have always wanted to see from you! :D
Damn dude, you're a fucking beast. I'm glad I found your channel, the following parts are going to be insane
This series has been so good. It's super entertaining, suspenseful, it makes me not want to leave the house and keep watching.
This one I'll savor. Jak games are my childhood and your videos about speedrunning are so intriguing. Keep it up, you're awesome!
This belongs in history museum, greatest speedrunning video saga of all time
This series is amazing. I actually remember watching your runs back in the day and your duel with Racoon, and man I feel old.
And It's crazy that this is only part 3/9 lol, keep up the good work man
I'm loving the background ost from Capsule Monster Coliseum. Haven't heard someone use it in their video before. Finally some recognition for the best yugioh game.
Phenomenal work on this series so far. Excited for the rest.
Yes! One of the small bunch of youtubers i always check to see if they have new videos, thankyou Ricky!
Ahhh, just starting a long and arduous travel journey when Tharixer comes along to save the day. Nice 1 ❤
This documentary is really a dream come true for me
So moving! I've watched several of your WR video back then but I didn't know how much there was behind! Thank you for your work it's awesome!
This is one of the best series on youtube for me! Excited for every episode. So much detail and work went into it and it shows!
I bet that by the time we reach Ep 9,there will be new things to be told for the game.
Seeing vids like this with such passion behind them inspires me :)
I’ve been really enjoying this series, thank you!
Every upload from you makes my day. It amazing what speedrunners can accomplish on my childhood classics
The editing on these videos are great
Both the story and how you tell it are amazing, i can't wait to see how we can go 6 episodes further after that
All i know is that the jetboard flight glitch is somewhere in there
Thanks man, and the hover glitches day will come.
This is slowly starting to become one of my favorite series !
This was a real treat to watch for me personally. This was around the time I was introduced to speedrunning (through some old vids of yours), and Jak 3 any% was the category I played the most, and this was the exact route I put the most time into. This vid made me remember Token Skip, which I always hated and was never good at lol. Excellent video once again my guy
Glad you liked it Zeke, and yea token skip was insanely tough
Didn't take you for a speedrunner....
@@NotOrdinaryInGames I'm not really, but I did a lot of runs when I was younger just for fun. Never submitted a time or anything. Even now, I still like to keep relatively updated on the scene
@@PowercellZeke And now I know.
The editing during the you vs Racoon part was so so good! Loved the video and you even included the spinning duck loading so it's automatically a 10/10!
Glad you liked it!!
Being an Australian viewer and seeing a Hungry Jacks Ad (Burger King in Australia) is so elite based on the context
This will probably shape up to be the single most in-depth documentation of a WR Progression for any game ever, kudos bossman youre a 🐐
I'm thinking the same thing😱✨🤩
Amazing video bro the editing was on point. I loved every second of the past 3 videos man! Had to smash the sub and like!
I appreciate it!
@@ThaRixer No problem brother!
when this is all done i'll have to watch these all back to back again
You know, the more and more I see of this "Era project", the more the idea of a "The man, who broke Jak in half" seems to be missing the point, as there really isn't a singular individual, who discovered the most skips in the game, but rather, the continued breaking of the game is a joint effort by the whole community!
Gotta say, you always leave Ricky's videos feeling Jaked up.
Damn, revealing the full picture of the fishbowl then changing profile picture, masterful move
Can't wait for the directors cut of every episode in one with extended interviews.
I will do that, but no extended interviews, I have an idea to make something for Patreon though
You are a godamn hero! Seeing all the dedication you and the other runners gave to the game and to the others is admirable, such legends, and also, thank you for making these videos, these games never got the recognition they deserved, and Seeing the effort and work you put in to this so people can get to know it, is admirable, thank you
This was so well done.
This series is amazing! I'm looking forward to the next video soon.
Speed running is like Dragon Ball. You may be the best and fastest player in a game, but there will always be someone who's better and faster than you, and that's okay! It encourages you to shatter your limits. You overcome your ceilings, breaking through your shell and reach levels beyond what your speed running skills allows. It's also about having fun!
This series is just getting better by the episode
What a blast of a vid. You never cease to up your game imho. The story-telling, the montage, the rythm. Goated. Can't wait for the next one!
Also loved to recognize the bits from this last ESA, may it be the Six interview or the latest Raccoon footage :p
(And new fish rules)
The interviews are from Winter 23 yea :)
lmfao i got bamboozled@@ThaRixer
15:23 the sudden hit of MP2 music really threw me for a loop haha. Always loved the bog themes
Another banger vid, man. It's kinda surreal hearing the narratives around previous runners while knowing such similar storylines exist later in the game's timeline. Guess history repeats itself even in speedrunning
Also the thumbnail for this one goes so hard.
What a lovely ending, almost made me tear up man. Can't wait for the next era to come out!
i swear the only time there is to dislike about this series is waiting for the next chapter! ill be here with baited breath for era 4 much love
I LOVE THIS SERIES. The production is so fucking insane considering the average views it gets, keep it up man. I'm constantly checking everyday for the next episode.
Waiting for you to reveal the big Jet board gltich :D
its been more then 10 years since i was so excited for a channel to upload. Keep it up!🌚
Just damn somehow I've felt so much joy watching the runs go for 38 mins its unbelievable and these videos are so amazing and I enjoy them sooooo much. Please keep up this freaking wonderful job!
loving this series man. keep these longer videos coming, theyre the bomb
As always another amazing video!! I believe it was around this time I found you and started seeing your streams every day in the hopes of you getting sub 40 and then to the 38 mark! Can’t wait for the era IV!
I'm absolutely adoring this series!
The fact that you can watch a WR run and it would be shorter than this video really is impressive.
What a trip down memory lane dude. Watching these battles between you, rac and bdub back then was one of the big reasons toward myself taking on PS speedrunning as a serious hobby. Like Foas said there's an energy around this route of the category that I haven't witnessed anywhere else in speedrunning, before or since, and I think you really nailed it in re-capturing the moment where everyone started to ride the wave alongside you. The love you put into this one shines through, very excited to see how you cover the next few discoveries
Thanks mob :3
My golly this is so well made! I love you
Another awesome episode! I appreciate the work you put into this, it’s very well made and highly enjoyable
Loving the videos man! Great Work!
I love this series the investment is as high as can be
Be a sort of cool thing to me, if you did another variety of this like error I, error II, error III where you discuss the most difficult challenges for specific runs for games, and perhaps runs that were so close to being WR but fell short due to difficult segments or bizzare rng.
Absolutely fantastic video and series. This is easily your best work yet. I can't wait to see what's next.
Damn right it is! Thanks man
loving these videos man. keep it up! i remember the sub 40 run live so well, this is around when i started watching speedruns on twitch. the split layout was sick.
Thanks for sticking with the scene for all these years, I remember the run quite vividly too
