Just thinking maybe Dimple the shaft to allow the seal Rotary drive screw to grab onto the shaft, as i have seen some back off at times, just remove the Allen screw use a drill to dimple that shaft refitting same and even loctite the threads of same... Belt and Braces... no one wants a leaking shaft gland ... Great Job...
Sorting through all the options, what is good here is the basic coupling set up. What remains unanswered is - What is the voltage and wattage of this motor? What source is best to find the most powerful Forklift Motors and the brands? A brushless, AC Motor rated at 30 KW or better, at 48 volts would be nice Any suggestions where to find used motors like that?
30kw at 48v would be impossible. It would require coils that can handle 625A, which is pretty impossible as the copper coil would need to be about an inch thick. You can easily find larger industrial 30kw+ motors that run at 3 Phase either 240V or 480V at a much more reliastic amperage (88A/44A). Many 3 Phase AC motors can be driven with the same driver you'd use on a BLDC motor, as long as they use pernanent magnets. Obviously, you'd need a driver that uses IGBT modules to modulate the frequency, and you can get them already made (for the same 3 phase industrial motor) for around $500, but then you would also need a DC to 480 AC 3 phase in order to use it, which will probably be a lot harder to find than to just design your own simple triple half bridge to simply modulate the 480v as you wish. I've never heard of a forklift motor that uses that much power (about 5kw max), as forklifts don't need to go fast, so any weak, geared down motor can easily do the job.
Excellent info and very specific to my request. Thank you Brian! I have seen projects using a Golden Motor 10-20 KW 48 volt BLDC liquid , using a 48 volt 30-500 amp FOC Vector Controller. There is a 96 volt version of the same technology for the same cost. The question is, would 2 of these motors, running through reduction gear belted pulley's to the dual drive shafts of a heavy semi planing displacement shallow V hull like the Uniflite 34 be sufficient to move the boat along at 8-9 knots? And for how long when using a pair of 200AH 48 volt battery arrays made up of Four 12 volt 115 pound 200AH batteries per side? (Eight 12 volt 200 AH Lead Acid Batteries total). Being careful to match and utilize these motors high torque capacity by choosing the right propellor blade loading to best make best use of that higher torque capacity..? I got mine from a"pallet carrier,lots of torque and 800 RPM MAX.For a very small boat you can salvage washing machine engine,but if you find an industrial washing machine engine,you're in business.....Those engine are very reliable and powerful(some have to run 24/7)Imagine the amount of sheets they must wash in Vegas......!!!!
So you can use your boat as a solar generator if you have a little cabin on the lake you have a cord running down to your boat you plug your cabin into your solar boat and have all the electricity you need for the cabin and just unplug and have a day out on the lake when you want to on your boat when you return home you plug back into your boat and return to the cabin to relax you can't go wrong with free electricity for your boat and your cabin LOL
The Electroprop Sailor has 3 x 4 inch intake ducts which brings cold air from the cabin directly to the motor. The enclosure provides a place to mount everything inside, plus is a wind tunnel of sorts with air directed across the controller, gearbox and motor. Nice that we think the same! looks like a thunderstruck motors design. USCG requires brushless motors to be used if you have gas or propane on your boat.

WE only use one of the intake ducts. Three are provided for installation flexibility
