I'm not going to lie, as someone who does a tone of video work, but occasionally needs a camera for photos, I had no idea how good the Lumix S5 Mkii was until it was too late. I already own a Sony A7siii, but the S5 would have been a better fit for my needs given it's internal Prores recording, ability to crop to 4k, 24Mp images, beautifully laid out "Display info" screen and ability to accept USB-PD. I had written Panasonic off, but this camera looks awesome, and their camcorders look good too. Is L-Mount underestimated? Blackmagic have now entered the frey too.
The L Mount Alliance website is everything I could have hoped for.
This is the beginning of a cultural revolution.
Canon needs to worry more about coming out with more lenses than cameras.
Maybe they should also make some cameras that don't look like the stay puffed marshmallow man painted black.
I just bought an R6 ii yesterday. Now I know I'll have to wait for sigma and tamron to come out with new lenses for Christmas!
Too bad, almost certainly that those lenses will be aps-c, not full frame 😅
@@withoutpassid Actually the first lenses they release (in the summer) will be aps-c. But towards the end of the year or around January that's when they'll start releasing their full frame lenses. Trust me, the more Sigma waits, the more they lose sales. That's why they call it competition!

dude. so cool. im going to be in Philly in the morning to tour the USS New Jersey in drydock (my tour time is 1030) and now i have a great reason to stop in at Allens! i just bought an R6II from them (i could have gotten it in a brick and mortar just 50 miles from me or from an NYC store but....)
i wanted to buy it, and then pick it up and then thought, id just skip the 'stop in'. now i have a reason to come up

Canon could jump on the bandwagon and make their 5th camera a retro styled FF camera that looks like their old FD SLR's with ISO dials and all that jazz.

All these new cameras and I like reading about them but I'm stoked that I'm getting a new Canon 90D for my birthday this month! I am so accustomed to my EOS system and EF lenses that I can shoot without thinking about them. I know the R series and all the mirrorless is the bomb but I love the prices the Canon DSLRs are at and going to that fit into a retiree budget.
Should we buy an R5 now ($2,899) while it's on sale or wait until these new cameras are released and the older models like the R5 will be more on sale?

Recently they released a firmware 2.0 for the R5.
After I updated it, I started to get blurry images, I'm using Sigma 60-600.
I try to contact them, no respond...

R8 overheats in hot weather. I was in Arizona and could not use it for video outside and I was only shooting 1080 at 60. can you research this please

regarding the missing one, they have one for best supporting the dual-lens lenses for VR
My hope would be that the new camera body would be an APSc Sensor in a body modeled after the R5 and R6 for those of us who shoot sports and want a rugged frame and a battery grip.
I’d hope the 5th camera is an R retro or an R9 full frame that has some improvements over the R8 but without the IBIS, dual card slots and without the larger battery. Better video specs, a a true R6/R5 wheel and joystick and the top screen of the R and R5.

@VividlineImages A stacked sensor would be nice. That would help with rolling shutter. Better dynamic range and more consistency in focusing.
Agree, an R7 M2 would be nice. A faster sensor read-out speed and more consistent focusing would be awesome. If they even add one more dial, that would make it just perfect for me
I wonder if it could be an R6 mkIII with a higher MP sensor. I've always thought there was such a big gap between the 24MP R6 mkII and the R5's 45MP.🤔 Especially when the R8 has virtually the same specs as the R6 mkII albeit without the IBIS, dual card slots.

The R6 Mk II went on sale a day or two ago for $500 off. There's a clue in there somewhere. I have an R6 and was about to finally pull the trigger. Methinks I'll hold off just a little longer.
I noticed today that Canon has big discounts on R5, R3 and R6 Mk II. Your choice, $500 off list price.
Often Canon offers big discounts shortly before they announce a new model, probably to clear existing stock from store shelves and make room for the new model.
But that doesn't account for the R1. And, do the R3 and R6II already need replacement.
Personally I'd rather see an R7 Mk II first... that has more comventional control layout and that can accomodate a battery grip. Sadly, I don't think that is in the cards because they are only discounting the R7 $100. On a percentage basis, the R8's $300 off list price is a much bigger discount. As a percent off list price, the $130 off the R50 and $100 off the R100 are also among the biggest discounts they're offering.

I would love the 5th camera to be a high mega pixel landscape / portrait camera. It's been years since the 5DSR was released and there has been lots of talk about higher mega pixel sensors. Certainly a gap in the market for this from Canon especially when you compare to the Sony A7R v and Nikon Z8 and the rumours that the r5 mk2 will still have 45mp sensor even though it will be potentially back lit and stacked. We can only live in hope but not holding my breath!
So how are things? Is it Friday yet?
I hope the new RF camera is one which looks more clean like the A7C or the Nikon fc. In my opinion, the only thing missing from Canon
I actually wonder if the OEM brand sales will go down for example, now that TAmron is making competing lenses (we'll say) for mounts like the Nikon Z (they just released their version of the 28-75 which I believe is the latest version of their 28-75 ML lens versus the gen 1 it seems that Nikon got as an OEM offering).
I'm thinking the Panasonic release will be more a Sony RX1 competitor than a Fuji X100 competitor. That I'm aware of, Panasonic doesn't realy have much in terms of roots back to the film days as Fuji does, and to an extent, I don't think copying them would make much sense either, however it may make sense to go after Sony users and possible RX1 buyers. My guess is those who like Fuji's will always buy Fuji's instead of a knockoff (like Panasonic, if they do even go this route). Now they could be doing perhaps a competitor to the Fuji X-E series which is still a rangefinder but has an EVF and is quite paired down in terms of controls versus the X100 series, and that might make sense.
Wondering if the fifth Canon camera is maybe a 20MP global shutter high speed camera (maybe an "R2"). Maybe faster than the R1 with a global shutter, but much lower resolution and perhaps no 8k.
I think the cinema cameras are an R5C mk2 and C70 mk2. Maybe the third RF camera is an R3 mk2?
Could it be likely that there is a C70 Mark ii coming?
My guess 5th camera : Super-Duper camera's for the Olympics : R3 Mk2 or R5 Mk2 S(R)-version ?

Hopefully the new Canon will be a rangefinder style full frame to compete with something like the Sony A7c, like the body of the EOS M3 but with a full frame RF sensor.
This would be nice, give some variety to the lineup’s appearance

It would be nice if Canon make EOS M200 succesor but in R system at the same price. And the spec quite close to R8 with same censor, but reduced something else to make the price. Perhaps disable any external input? Limit 3 fps RAW + JPG but can windstand a few seconds burst. A more compact body. Also the other spec a like M200 exp articulary screen, etc. It would be a star entry level. Pro would not buy it because it only 3 fps and no external at all.

Could the 5th Canon be the R7 ii
Has anyone had reliability issues with their R5 or R6ii? I keep seeing complaints about freezing/lockups, error 70, buttons going bad, loose hot-shoe, etc. I'm considering the R5 or R6ii but don't know if these issues seem more common because the sheer number of people that own these bodies or if the reliability of the R bodies is worse than Canon's DSLR bodies. I plan on using an EF to RF adapter so I don't know if that will be a problem.

Jared I love all of your videos. I just have one little thing that bothers me with the new fix set. The space to the left of you (from your point of view when shooting the fixes) feels like a little too much dead space because there isn't anything interesting in the background. If you would move to fill that space, it would be much less dead, and more, well you. And then on the other side there will be the shelf and what's on it, to look at.
This is just meant as constructive criticism, and not as a way to annoy you or poss you off in any Way. Keep at it man! You make my day with your vids!
set isn't done yet, it's a temporary makeshift set that we just threw up in 30 minutes until we take the time to build a new one. We had to move the temp fix set since our scripted set moved into the old spot we filmed fix on

Help??? Looking for a new camera had the OriginalR6 it was terrible. When I cropped super noisy in photos and the auto focus was not the best. It was only 20mp, I’m thinking going with the R5 or the R6 mark 2, I shot both. Video and photos. Help please. Sell is on now. 2900 for the r5 or 2000 for the r6 mark2 ps I have no desire to get the R5 mark 2 3000 is my max budget

Entry level full frame Canon would loose the EVF and replace the RP which is now old. It would likely be a Content Creators vlogging style camera like Sony A7C or Sony ZV-E1 competing with that.

On Tamron: For pros I dont think its a viable brand yet in the US because their repair support is abysmal. Only have one repair center and they refuse to cerify 3rd party repair facilities so youre forced to get repaired from them in Eastern New York.
On Canon: Have no idea what the camera would be but I really hope its a updated R7 with more prosumer features to make it viable as a pro level crop budy like the 7D series was. That is somewhat the only hole in my gear at the moment. The R5 in crop mode works for now But id prefer a dedicated crop body etc.
Just curious: what are those prosumer features that the R7 could use and doesn't have? When I think of what the R7 is missing, the standout feature to me is a faster sensor.

A cheaper and cut down R8 would make sense according to Canon. They make something that is kinda crippled like the R100 and everyone will flock to the R8 just like how R50 is being eaten up.

The R8 is already the RP mk ii. It was created with the same camera body used on the RP. I'm not sure what they could cut out to make it even cheaper. But we're talking about Canon, the king of camera crippling. They will find a way I'm sure. ;-)

Canon did some market research into what retro body people liked most, so I think it’s definitely in planning but whether they’re finished with it we’ll have to wait and see
r6 mark III as there have been a lot of R6 rebates and sales

We don't need more bodies right now - we need new, affordable lenses! I know Sigma and Tamron have a deal now, but we still need more options. I wish they'd focus on that for awhile instead of mark IIs of bodies that are still brand new.
