Just switched to L mount last week with a Panny S5iiX, really enjoying it so far. Sigma and Leica glass have been absolutely stellar. Plus with rumours of Panasonic developing an S1R II that does 8k internal to compete with Nikon Z8 and Canon R5C I think Panasonic is going to stand the test of time for many years to come. Not to mention the fantastic Leica SL3.
I am really not convinced that Panasonic will continue to invest in their FF line up, I believe that it is most probably not generating sufficient revenue. Considering the trend, the market will IMHO concentrate on Sony, Nikon and Canon.
So many people shoot on L mount that are NOT paid that Panasonic had orders for months of the S5 II.
I got the S5 I and was very happy with it.
Now I got the S5 II X in addition to my S5 I
With bundles I got the
20-60 f/3.5 - f/5.6 kit lens (probably the best kit lens out there)
35mm f/1.8
50mm f/1.8
And recently I invested in the Leica Certified Panasonic Lumix S Pro 24-70 f/2.8 - phenomenal lens!
So I am happy with the L MOUNT ALLIANCE (alliance … alliance … alliance)
And positive about the future.
Your L-Mount bashing gets boring. Greetings from one of the three users... :P
😂😂😂
Second of the three users here. 👋
Sony still has no big and handy camerabody like the Lumix S1 and S1R. 😂😂
@@joachim1717I guess I’m the 3rd user here. I look forward to picking up my camera everyday!
Here here
I used an sl2 on a gig a few days ago. Very nice camera, i like the images better than out of my Sony a9.
Honestly i been using s5ii and i love it! Yeah they don’t have cameras that can compete with a1 or z9 but damn what you get from s5ii and x with that price, i don’t see any better options!
Im proud L-mount alliance use :)
L-mount rules!
Been filming with the S5II X!
I am on L-mount. When should I be getting my cheque? Maybe it's lost in the mail!
I started on L Mount, went to Sony, then back to L Mount. I really love out.
I still regret the amount of money I threw at the Sony platform. I still have a few Sigma e mount lenses I am considering converting over to L mount. They charge around $300 per lens.
@@ElMundoDuro $300 is still far less than it would cost to sell those and buy new ones
Why is L mount better. which body do you use?@@ElMundoDuro
Leica has no peers in image quality. Maybe Hasselblad. Yes probably Hasselblad
@@Visual_Ghoul you didn’t ask me, but I’ll answer. I started with the S5 and went to Sony for the auto focus. Switched back to the S5iix. One thing I do miss is the 35-150 2.0-2.8 lens. That thing was amazing.
L mount is pretty killer…. Great glass! I’m coming from canon.
As a wildlife shooter and outdoorsman, on some hikes, bringing bigger glass is impractical. Sometimes I go on hikes or explorations and don't bring any camera. Since nature and wildlife are unpredictable, I end up missing moments I could have captured if I had a lens like the 28-400. I'm very interested in getting this lens for that purpose.
Just commenting to say that for about 2.2k, I've managed to buy a D810, 24-70, 70-200, 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.4, 300mm f4, and 150-600mm contemporary.
If you can afford it, mirrorless is the way to go. But if youre on a budget, DSLRs offer so much value for beginners, letting them get good glass and bodies for a fraction of the cost
great set up
Thats really nice deal. When I was looking at some second hand options for Nikon DSLRs over here (central europe) around half year ago it was around 1700-2500$ equivalent for D850 (no 810 on local market at that time, but prices of D810 are regulary around 1300$) and just 70-200 lens was 1200-1400$ (if you want Nikkor f2.8 one).
@@froknowsphoto much appreciated 🙏
Also, love your videos. I've watched all your real world reviews several times. Even for the systems I don't use
@@anupew3276 dang, that's expensive. I definitely have gotten lucky with some of my gear, especially my telephoto lenses.
But I also do a lot of smart shopping, don't buy on impulse, and just look everywhere for good deals. Mpb, keh, and ebay have been good to me
Not everyone needs the latest and greatest, as The Fro shows by getting a 4x5.
I think the Panasonic S2 will come out this year and will change the over all perception of L mount. It's been trending in the right direction for while now and just needs one or two more big wins! Side note Please keep doing the L MOUNT ALLIANCE FX, never gets old lol
L mount user here. Mostly shoot S5IIX love it and love the L mount glass I've used so far!
And you can get 30fps bursts with this lens on your S5IIX. Which is a lot better than the 10fps maximum on all the comparable cameras in the Sony A7 lineup.
I believe sony limits it to 15fps on non sony glass. But yes you're right its a silly limitation that sony only puts in to make people buy first party lens. Love the L mount freedom!@@ElMundoDuro
@@Fusionprogamer The 15fps limit is for the higher end Sony cameras like the A1 and A9 to make sure you don't use 3rd party glass with those cameras. Cameras in the A7 series only go up to 10fps even with Sony glass.
@@ElMundoDuro yikes ok good to know! Glad I went L mount! Lol
Even the L mount nifty 50 is weather sealed and freeze proof ❤ I love this kit.
L-mount here
I had an S5, my freind has one and one of my other friends had an fp so, yes I know people who are not bought off and use l mount
Im a proud L Mount user
Everyone call me a Nikon hater but I think the 28-400mm is a winner. There are times that you go to places where you really don't have the luxury to carry multiple lenses, especially in the wild, and this lens is the answer. So far I don't about its sharpness, however if it is very sharp at f/5.6 at 28mm and f/11 at 400mm, I'd travel with this lens and a tripod, and possibly a wide angle lens and a f/1.4 lens.
In the Wild , it will be dark most situations I mean in to the forest. How you gonna shoot @ F8 , You have to bump your ISO to 4000-5000 . I think this lens is a stupid idea.
@@neethuandthomasphotography There is a market for many stupid ideas. It suffices it does not look stupid to them.
I actually *met* a Leica shooter.
I've got the 24-120 f/4, 100-400, and a shelf full of Z glass both S line and otherwise including older DSLR adapted glass for both my Z8 and Z9. I preordered the 28-400 yesterday simply to have the range option of landscape to birding and light enough to easily carry on my daily walks. If it's on par with the old 28-300, it's going to be a great lens.
This is what I’m thinking as a landscape photographer. For really long hikes it would be great… plus I’m sure it’s sharp enough between f8-f11… I usually carry 3 lenses to cover 16-400mm…
I look forward to catching up with you and Steve every Friday (OZ TIME). You are too funny:)
Is this video recordes with lower shitter speed? I see more motion blur than usual, i like it
4x5 cameras have been ripe for digital backs since consumer digital cameras were made, why is that not already a thing 😭
a GROWER and a SHOWER!? that lens has it all fr fr
I use L mount a S5ii the are priced to move right now
interesting
They really are. You get more for your money in terms of features and quality with with Panasonic bodies and L mount glass than anything else on the market. Sigma lenses are cheap financially, but their quality is nothing to sneeze at.
@@JoshChristiane I want the sigma 28-70 2.8
@@game2572 I don't actually have that lens in my collection yet. I want to get that and especially the new 50mm 1.2, which for me will be a very useful prime.
@@JoshChristiane that is a great one I got the 50 1.8 with the kit for $2147 and I want the 85 1.8
re: the nikon at F8 at the long end.. with older lenses sometimes you'd stop down a bit because the 'wide open' apertures aren't as sharp and adding a third or two thirds of a stop would help make it sharper, like going from f2.8 to f3.2, f3.5.. is this the case when the lens the min aperture is at F8 at the long end or is it just as sharp at 'wide open' at f8 as a f5.6 lens stopped down to f8?
Ive been wandering whether ill get to the point where ill be able to justify a medium format camera since im sticking to studio work, but until i get customers needed super massive images i probably be enjoying my sony a7iii
Remember the Sony Semiconductor Solutions is not the company that makes Sony cameras.
They use Nikon hardware to design and make those chips
Literally in London on vacation with an L-mount 24-105 as I watch this 😂 I WISH I was getting paid off instead of just enjoying my camera
I’ve decided to invest in L-mount after weeks of comparing with Z and E mount. I think Panasonic is going to be a sleeping giant awakening in the next decade, especially as they’re doing a lot of sensor prototypes in-house. It’s a good camera company now, but I think L-mount will pay off in 3-4 years once more advanced bodies release. S5iiX colours are just stunning SOOC, even RAW.
I shoot L-mount. And I wasn't bought off.
I have spaghetti arms, and I've never thought about lens weight. I don't even mind my Sony 200-600 while Climbing pyramids.
Btw nikon z8/9 have auto iso compensation for variable aperature lenses if you're in M like you preffer. When it's turned on it also detects if u switch from 1.4 to 2.8 lens and bumps iso 2x so u maintain exposure. It can also be setup to vary the shutter but at that point u're kinda in A allready
I have used the IMX411 professionally in the past. It was a rather strange sensor to use compared to other sensors but the 151 megapixels created stunning images even without any corrections. I have never understood the global reset shutter mechanism where the bottom lines have noticably longer exposure than the top lines. I'm curious to see what image quality comes from this but the pixels will probably be smaller when this new sensor has the same dimensions as the IMX411 (which has the same pixel size as the Sony A7R5)...
You are so funny man. Enjoying your stuff.
Great Video!!
I shoot with an L Mount camera! I sold my A7Siii for my Lumix s5ii and I am WAYYYY Happier, and I paid for it!
I’m contemplating the same move, but now Nikon is starting to look interesting too 🫣 I just want to get away from Sony at this point 😅
Same
oh man! a 4x5 digital back would be amazing. id even be happy with a 2x3 digital back for my 2x3 Graflex Crown Graphic too.
i know its not able to shoot RAW (per se) but i hope you do a couple of photonewsfixes on shooting with the graflex.
Nikon lens would be good for travel, haven’t seen any other options like this in awhile, glad they are thinking about a plethora of markets
Is Polin unaware that Panasonic uses the L mount?
Yes. But Panasonic full frame cameras are also rare. I don't know anybody that uses one.
@@stefan_beckerthe lumix s5II is a banger though
I also have a Speed Graphic 4x5 with an Ektar lens. It would seem that a 4x5 sensor the size of my cut film holders would not be that technically hard to make. A small battery pack with a plug on the side of the sensor holder could supply the power.
The 28 400 has been tested in the sunny springtime. Would have been a different story in cloudy winter with very high ISO and possibly AF issues.
I have a friend who shoots L mount. She has a beachfront villa and a yacht in Mex, Hawaii, St. Thomas, & in France on the Mediterranean.
Haha. What a random thing to say. I know a guy who uses disposable cameras and he is the head of a small country.
so no in camera lut preview for siii, sigh
28-400 is cray ! definitely interesting
I love the L Mount and know so many people in my university who use LUMIX cameras too (film student here)
S5II user here✌
plz review the sigma 16-28 f2.8 lens
Probably an honest slip, but at 2:45 you say "... and really want a 1.2 over a 1.4, go with the Sigma." The GM is also a 1.2.
I was talking about the Sony 1.4
As the owner of Sony a1 I can say that Sony doesn’t really care about their customers.
Nikon is about to lap everyone. The fact that anyone believes the Sony hype baffles me.
@@dsfarag LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
@@dsfaragThey all compete with each other. The top brands will be at the top for a time. None of them stay. Both companies offer something the other doesn’t.
Comedians won't believe until they are paid heavily😂@@dsfarag
I think this is the first move by Sony to update the A1 and related alpha cameras. More coming with features... 😉📷
Rare blue shirt! Wow that color pops.
A long time ago, probably about twenty years ago, I remember hearing that a US government agency, possibly the NSA, had a true 4X5 sensor made. I did not hear anything about price but I am guessing that the capabilities of such sensor are nothing close to what is currently available in FPS or even the number of pixels available. I too would love to have a true 4X5 digital sensor for use on my Sinar F2 studio camera (although I have probably done more outside the studio with this camera than within a studio environment).
can someone explain me what's wrong with the L-mount cameras?
Noone can explain that because there is nothing wrong with them as long as they have the features you need for your particular needs.
Nothing is wrong with them.
L-Mount strikes almost everything you will need for photography and videography, like most of the camerabrands do.
The difference is, that L-Mount has three native Brands for lenses and cameras.
Leica, Sigma and Panasonic.
The Body’s are fully professional and still very easy to use.
Canon only has Canon lenses and others are called third party lenses.
Oh wait… Canon still don’t accept third party lenses. 😂
thats a very nice lens for travel
1:29
We ballin hard with this one bois 🗣️‼️💯
Bring the sigma 50 1.2 to Nikon Z. The Nikon one is massive and I don't care about the no focus breathing.
Hey, greetings to the other two L Mount users. Loving my Leica SL2. Peace out.
Well imagine competing against Red/Nik, with a camera that emulates a F65/F55 into a smaller mirrorless, that could change theperspective
2:32 Sadly Fro can't do math. LOL!
Being an industrial sensor it's likely for a single wavelength of light -- So no need for R/G/B for 1 pixel effectively tripling the advertised resolution. Canon has high resolution sensors such as this as well.
I use an S5II, before that I had an S1 and before that I had a GH5.
I love my Lumix S5iix! (L-mount)
Great lens release by Nikon. Consumers will love the 28-400mm. And I have disliked what Nikon did for years. They've done well to recover, especially interested in the Red overtake too.
I have that 4x5, could use an upgrade :D
raw talk is already the name of Bradley martins podcast
3:26 Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
4x5 should be quite popular, because it is the image ratio for Instagram.
In Canadian dollars this 28-400mm lens comes in about $1699. CDN. That's a lot for a consumer, but okay for a person who shoots wildlife and sports as a general consumer. Which is $1299. USD. So I am going with a Z 24-200mm instead as that is the most I really want. Nice lens for those that can afford a Z 28-400mm though.
Interesting fix as usual. But I have to ask, whats wrong with the L-mount alliance?😂
Nothing is wrong.
L-Mount ist just the new „Pentax“ for Jared.
Too bad the A1 update was pulled, was going to update this morning.
sony made medium format sensors for a while now. But their 'camera module' thing was aimed at like, telescope photography or machine learning applications for industrial use (like detecting rocks vs beans and removing them in a conveyor belt thing). Not really sure what the hype is suddenly about?
Have you checked out the LargeSense digital backs for large format. Not the highest resolution but a high-resolution large format sensor would be even more expensive.
26k wow!!!
4x5 would be dope
yes
Can you go over 15fps in manual? I know nobody will even shoot that fast with manual focus but is it possible? Or is over 15fps tied to software in the Sony lenses?
Nope
I think that the Sony Medium sensor, more fore Hasselblad X and Fujifilm.
I use a Mamiya/Phase one system, that speed what the new sensor can deliver
whil destroy the shutter in the camara, if you use a leaf shutter lens,....
maximale speed 1/600 sec,.....i am not shure.
How exactly does a lens effect shooting fps? I don't get it...
Sony limits it on third party lenses
Not all lenses have fast motors that can move the elements quickly enough for the AF. Even some SONY lenses don't either. Most GM and many G lenses feature superfast linear motors that can cope.
Hi Jared, I like your videos but the constant mocking of L-Mount products is inappropriate in my opinion. I myself use 2 cameras Panasonic S5 Mark IIx and S1 R for videos and photos as a journalist and I am completely satisfied with the results and flexibility. You should also try the Panasonic S5 Mark IIx. It is one of the best devices in this price range.
The Nikon 28-400 seems to be for the photographer who's confused.
it's for non photographers, that's the point
Folks who got an interchangeable lens camera and don't want to change lenses
@@froknowsphoto Yes sir!
@@froknowsphotoa non photographer spending that amount on a lens seems unlikely. It’s a carry around lens or a holiday lens. I had the last version until it broke and it was a good lightweight companion lens. Now I use Sony and could use something similar for community events.
Seems like a good option to pair with a wide angle for a landscape photographer who hikes mountains and doesn’t want to carry a bunch of heavy lenses.
Sony have a very firm non-compete contract with Phase One and have been making their sensors for a while now. This will but the IQ5 sensor in the next generation of phase medium format.
Shower and Grower mode? LMAO!!!!!
you're really forcing the echo their bud. thanks for the fix
Oh you mean the actual echo from my brick building with wood floors
Hi
best dynamic range
best low-light performance camera
One lens to rule them all would be super convenient, but f/8? Nah. I'd rather just have a shorter FL.
4x5 sensor would be incredible! Would probably cost $250k 😂
N-eye-Kon YESS! the correct way to say!
Sony artificially limits shooting speed of third party lenses.
Atleast most of the brands allow third party lenses no?
That's why I love my z8 I use it with my Canon 100 400 is ii with a fringer adapter and it works with excellent AF at full fps no limits
The L mount alliance is coming for you…all seven of us 🤣
Yep, The 28-400 is kinda non sense especially for FF camra, Because i think do it all lens almost alway appeal to casual user who want to buy just 1 body and 1 lens. and this group of ppl usually buy apsc or smaller format. which have benefit of price size and weight like Olympus 12-200mm F3.5-6.3 (24-400 in FF) that wider and weight only 455g
You said double doodie :)
I'm waiting for 3x2 ratio? back to fill my Linhof's .
Maybe 105 mm x 70 mm or 90 mm x 60 mm 250 mega
Awesome
A 4x5 sensor is 20
The 28-400 if basically to do everything with one lens but nothing well done lol
Great news update, Thanks
Would you have an update on the newly released firmware update for the Sony a1? What would that really mean all those 30 new features according to Sony's email.
Much appreciated your response and maybe ask UA-cam to get the double like button like Netflix has.
Cheers

PS: Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Jared dad feeling good to be a G 1:32
Damn, that is a baller ass photo of your dad!!!
You will find this Sony sensor in the future Leica medium format camera
Jared has something else that's 5.6" in grower mode.
I primarily work in video but I would like to add a high end photo/hybrid body to my kit. What Sony has done to A1 customers is a wake up call for me and I will be waiting until a body with all the specs I want before buying. An A1ii with video eye AF and high resolution full articulating screen would be enough.
Why not go with the A7SIII then?
@@jeroenvdwBecause it's 12.2 MP.
