I mean, that ending with Marco and Tarja??? Wow.
Nightwish is so creative and talented - and this performance was just another example of that.
I was quite surprised with the vocal abilities of both Marco and Tarja!

I haven't heard a better Christine+Phantom combo than Tarja+Marko. Their vocal qualities and the techniques they use work so incredibly well together and elevate the song beyond what is on the page. Even though Tarja was sick during this concert they still managed to put on this amazing, out of this world performance. It was indeed the "End of an Era"

Tarja will always have a special place in my heart. She's the first female metal vocalist that i love...
We all knew Tarja could sing this - it fits in perfectly with her style of singing. The real surprise in this one was Marko - the man's voice is nothing short of amazing here. Hitting a G5 and sustaining it with such power! Just incredible. He's going to be almost impossible to replace.
The masterpiece is merging them in their different styles ... and frankly Marco's GROWL makes the character SINISTER ... as he should be! "Traditional" operatic performances do not have that and thus the "monster" is far too slick.
This is the best way to comment on a musical performance, thanks for respecting the song without interruptions (really excellent the idea of written comments) and for expressing your opinions in such a personal way.

I remember how nervous, afraid I guess is the word, I was when I watched opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, "The Charismatic Voice" is her YT channel, reacting to this performance. Especially what she would say about Marko.
She wanted to hear Tarja for the 1st time, after falling in love with Floor. But she was totally surprised and blown away, G5!, by Marko's vocal performance.
She also liked Tarja's strong voice: "She could sing in a big theater without a mic."
I was so pleased and relieved. I agreed with everything Elizabeth said about the vocals in this Nightwish rendition to The Phantom.
A few other opera singers, vocal coaches, music teachers have reacted to this performance and they all say pretty much the same as Elizabeth.
This is a great example of how important part of Nightwish Marko is, as a vocalist, not just as a bass player. Nightwish has so many song that definitely require both female and male vocals. It is very hard for me to believe Nightwish could find anyone as good as Marko to take his place, now that Marko decided to take a break at least for the rest of the year. I truly hope he'll come back to Nightwish, because Nightwish is not the same without him, no matter who is going to try and fill Marko's shoes.

That last nite that Tarja did an incredible E Flat 6 almost on the notes of a high pitch whistle Jesus christ that intensity towards the end and Marko hit pitches matching Tarja wowewow amazing 👏

Tarja Turunen was the original Nightwish vocalist for almost a decade, defining a big part of their sound with her classically infused vocal techniques which combined perfectly with Nightwish's inicial power metal and later symphonic metal sound, and also with Marco's vocals, as you noticed it was a perfect match in every way!
The great thing is that Tarja has been having an amazing solo career in the last 15 years... Her voice is high (her last note on this one is an Eb6), but also a full and really powerfull suported sound (and throughout her career she keeps on experimenting new things with her vocals, including a haunting dark and lower register she can belt out), plus having this theatrical presence on stage... I'm really glad you liked it!

Well, don't know why or how, but the song in this video is kind of faster than it really is when they performed this, and actually pitched a little higher too. Maybe it's some kind of UA-cam "trick" when the vid was uploaded or something, Idk. Anyway, great reaction! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Tarja and Marko singing together are simply magical!!😍 Curious fact: during this very concert ("End of an Era", 'twas in 2005) where they performed their version of The Phantom and also Ghost Love Score, Tarja was very sick with a fever and severe throat infection. She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously! So if this is not the best she can do, just imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍 Her voice can be stronger and darker, even kind of poignant!💘
I'm kind of a new subscriber to your channel, and I've being watching and loving your reactions to this epic, extraordinary, legendary band!🤘🖤 I mean, you witnessed it, their music is so... God, no mundane word is enough to describe such magnificent otherworldly realm that they've created through their Music!!! Pure magic, regardless of who's the singer they're working with!
Don't know if anyone already told you, but there was a messy dramatic situation regarding Tarja's dismissal from the band back in 2005, right after this concert actually -- which makes this the last time ever they performed together. Their separation would happen anyway, though imo the guys did it in very coward and immature way. But they're all humans and I'm not here to dig in old wounds that seem to be finally healed after bloody 15 years haha. I just want to spread some love for the band and all three lead singers that worked with them regardless of personal tastes and preferences, because they're all equally talented, great, amazing artists in their own different ways and rights, for each of them brought special, individual and unique elements to the band that helped them grow, mature and develop their artistic identity. I feel grateful and blessed as a fan to have witnessed such three amazing, unique women as lead vocalists (I must admit that especially Tarja and Floor haha) throughout NW's history, and of course MARKO, and all of the band, because they've always been amazing since the beginning!🤘💘
That being said, since I'm also a Tarja addict😆 hahaha, I followed her solo career far more closely and can assure she's been doing a stunning, beautiful solo work too. To me listening to her singing and her renditions is almost a spiritual experience! She brings an ethereal atmosphere with her voice, a spiritual otherworldly magic to anything she sings, and oftentimes evokes emotions in me that come from the deepest hidden corners of my soul! I just love her so much!💘 To me (and before anyone misunderstands me, I know that's ONLY about my personal preferences and how I personally feel hearing her voice and watching her performances) Tarja is special in many ways. I mean, it's not only her talent and the incredible technical control of her voice resulted from long years of full dedication and hard work, it's also her outstanding stage presence and this mesmerizing "dark&light sorceress high angel/goddess" kind of energy she has; it's her operatic, expressive, rich, strong, dark, powerful yet heavenly and pure voice; and it's the deep emotional magic she's capable of delivering through her renditions. She has always given me goosebumps all over my body within the first seconds of hearing her, bringing tears to my eyes with every breath and touching the depths of my soul💖! I feel like she put an everlasting spell on me since I first listened to her, when I was like 13 or 14! Haha. Like, I won't deny Floor gives me reeeaally good Eargasms, but Tarja gives me full, deep and spiritually magical Eargasms, and makes me feel like I'm 'Walking in the Air' 💘A-hem... Sorry about that😜 hahaha.
Anyway, as such a huge Tarja fan that I am, I must present you with her solo work, where she shows so much more of her power, she's more energetic in her performances now, more mature and happier than she could ever be with NW (and well, in lyrical music world her voice wouldn't exactly be considered soft haha, but her solo performances show much more of that strength she has). Plus she has much more freedom since she started her solo career, she can compose and write her own songs, play piano, sing however she wants to, and just fully liberate her truest creative artist soul.
Her solo musical style is quite different from Nightwish, even still having plenty of the symphonic metal elements as main references such as some kinds of guitar riffs, the epic orchestral arrangements and her remarkable operatic vocals, but her solo work is much more versitile imo, she incorporates aspects of many other styles and is always experimenting new things with her music, AND it's just as magnificent!! I love the fact that she just walked her own path and found her "artist self", never trying to copy or recreate her old days with the band, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too. So, here we go:

Here she sings while playing a grand piano, showing some dramatic nuances of her expression and voice, kind of "gothic vibes". She delivers such a touching, emotional and beautiful performance! It makes me shiver and cry every time! Close to zero reactors pick this performance, but imo more should do it, it's a "forgotten" treasure!
3. ua-cam.com/video/jxqodwLVdcU/v-deo.html . "Love to Hate", this song is part of her 2016 album "The Shadow Self" and the performance recorded in 2018 for her live-album Act II, in a more intimate kind of set. Outstanding, another breathtaking performance, one of my favorites!💘

It's just so gorgeous in all possible levels!💘 Plus the epic virtuosic piano line especially in the intro reminds me of Chopin, a classical composer that I love! You can watch as well the official music video for this song, it will surely give you insights.

The song makes "subtle" musical mentions of Mozart's "Queen of the Night" aria, from his opera "The Magic Flute". Love this and Tarja is gorgeous!

Now since Tarja is a classically trained lyrical singer (in fact a really great one!) who often performs in classical concerts, reacting to some of her classical performances would be awesome too, if you have time for it, of course haha, AND if you're into some classical music stuff as well (I love it, I'm a metalhead but also a classical musician, so..... ❤😜). Tarja is really incredible in this one!!! It's clearly recorded from a cellphone, but the audio and image are surprisingly good! And trust me it's worth it hearing her singing this! You'll witness her dramatic, "spinto" soprano timbre in full; her rendition is so intense, it gives me chills from the beginning as well as her facial expressions haha.

yeah it seems a bit fast paced, at a guess - 3-5% quicker. Maybe for copyright reasons?
Ya it seems so. She had another vid that was a bit slower i remember as well.
My theory about why this happens, as I've noticed it with other channels too, is that it is something that happens when they are rendering the final product after editing. She watches the videos in "normal time", so during her initial recording, she is hearing the music as it should sound.
I think that the frame rates of her camera and the music video don't match, so during rendering, the editing software will either speed up or slow down the smaller video(which is the music video in this case) to match the frame rate of the bigger video(her face camera).
A lot of people say that the wrong version was picked, the original link she used is from the Nightwish channel. And when i search UA-cam, i cant find a slower of faster version of any song, which leads me to think that it's a rendering issue.

I see another comment about Marko and "High Hopes", he is the vocalist for that song and it is amazing. There are parts of Nightwish performances that won't sound the same without his voice. Dear Sabina, I always like your reactions, thank you for this! For me this version of The Phantom of the Opera (which I love) is by far the best I've ever heard and seen (and now for the first time). This heavy rocky/metal version with an opera voice combined that is not just soft and correct is amazing. It brings out effectively the drama and horror, even the force or violence that lies in the story underneath the beautiful music. So yes, I am very impressed and excited about this whole performance and enjoyed your reaction a lot!

It was alot of tears because it was Tarjas last perfomance with Nightwish, making it even more powerful.
If you haven't had a chance to see a lot of Marko's vocals, I recommend "The Islander" (live at Tempere), "High Hopes" (a Pink Floyd cover), or "While your lips are still red". All great tracks.

Marco have this unique ability besides have a good voice himself, he enhances the person he sings with and takes it to another level, no matter if its Tarja, Floor, or some of the other bands where he have been a quest, like The Gathering, Ayreon and a lot of others.
I also love how Marcos Voice starts to sound more sinister and Eerie the longer the gets in the song, where you can just feel something bad is about to happen.

I don't have any confirmation on this, but apparently the composer Andrew Lloyd Webber himself has said this early Nightwish performance and arrangement is the best ever on Phantom of the Opera. This has much more of the feeling what the composer had in mind, than what is commonly heard in the shows on Broadway and ín theatres all over the word.

Hello Sabina. If you want to make a step aside from Nightwish, Marco released his own solo album, which is called Pyre of the Black Heart and he made finnish and english version. You could react to one of his two singles. I mean official video to Stones. I think, that you will love it. With many regards your fan..:)

I love this performance ❤ There are a lot of iconic Nightwish performances with Tarja. Of the band's 9 studio albums, 5 were recorded with her. I did not know this super cool Metallica version. for the little story of the phantom of the opera. It all started in 1873 when a young pianist was said to have had his face burned in the fire at the Opera Garnier in Paris. His fiancée, a ballerina from the conservatory, would have lost her life there. Inconsolable and disfigured, he would have found refuge in the underground passages of this Opera. It remained there until the end of his life and the completion of his work, a hymn to love and death. His body has never been found, so there is talk of a mysterious underground occupant. a series of strange phenomena accredits the presence of a ghost. A machinist is found hanged, we could have concluded a suicide, except that the rope is missing! Shortly after, a dancer loses her life after falling from a gallery. Then the large chandelier in the hall comes down and kills a spectator during a performance and other series of strange phenomena accredits the presence of the ghost. Christine Daaé, soprano, would have said to have met the famous Phantom. I invite you to read this novel drawn from real events.

Yes to both. It's sped up, causing it to be a half step higher. It's kinda off-putting tbh.

Hei Sabina, you have such a nice reactions and I like a lot your thinking about different songs. You have very much the same thoughts as I do, when I listen and watch NW. One thing which is very often said of NW , that their stage presentation gives very positive feeling. They have good active interaction with the audience. And they give the good feeling they have fun and they enjoy playing and singing. I think thats one thing why their performing makes you feel good when listening their music. This version is accelerated and out of tune (consequence of the higher speed). I don't have an absotule ear but got the difference in the first chord on the keys.

This was the last concert of Tarja and the band would fire her right after that. I'm glad they put aside their differences and produced this gem regardless, the dynamics between them are cool as you pointed out.
Marko is incredible (yes, he is no longer with the band but he is still incredible, I can't speak in past tense) and he also have great vocal collaborations with Floor, like The Islander (live at Tampere), a more calm song, that showcases another side of him.
I think the whole NW concept is based on two main things - music/lyrics by Tuomas and voice of Tarja. Without that link NW would never break and got world famous. Rest is history with replacements. No Marco, no Tarja, no Jukka anymore. Replacements yes.
Unlike some other reactions, you take the trouble to examine and explain what it is about it that comes through in the performance. (And you're very pretty but that's beside the point.)

I think this type of metal screaming from Marko was what led to his botched throat surgery. Beauty (Tarja) and the Beast (Marko)! After his surgery, he claimed that he needed to re-learn how to sing in his higher range. I am not sure what year his surgery was done? Loved your reaction again Sabina! Surgery was back in the 90ies. You can hear some notable changes from early TAROT to his Nightwish years. And the screaming did not do anything, I think it was something routine like polyp removal?
