This OM651 engine needs 5W-30 low SAPS oil such as factory spec’d Mobil 1 ESP or my fave Pennzoil Platinum Euro L or LX (if u can find it) which is dirt cheap at Wal Mart at around $22 for 5 qt jug (instead twice that much for the Mobil 1, Ravenol, Motul, or Liqui Moly versions. Valvoline also has a less expensive option, but is harder to come by than the Pennzoil. His filter choice is on point. Must be a fleece filter.
Thanks Nathan - don't forget, also important to change the fuel filter on diesels, esp' if you not sure of the history.
And add that with pulling up the oil dipstick as well to let all the air to get through and help with the drainage
I remember a customer who was watching me change his oil I warned him it may splash a bit he didn't seem concerned so when I popped the plug well that white shirt well wasn't so.🤣 Some people just have to experience things I guess.
I learn so much "inside baseball" from your videos. Thanks!
Am I to understand that this car was purchased from a dealer without an oil change and with it throwing codes? I’m surprised Nathan didn’t run a OBD scan prior to purchase.
I like that this car has an oil dip stick. Other E class had the oil level checked via a dash it’s computer. I trust the dip stick.
Mann filter is OE supplier for bmw ,Mercedes,VAG. I will tell you my experience with Mobil 1 . My family owned many Mercedes and I owned three . With m272 c300,m276 e350,m272 e350. My two cars with m272 have constant problems with oil leaks , valve covers and from pcm cover. And till 120000 miles I used Mobil 1 , but after that I used liqui moly . And never had any oil leaks on that motor ,I driven 200000 miles on both and no oil leaks. Mobil 1 is tier 3 oil, liqui moly is tier 2 with esters . Oil plays main role. If you want to get 400000 miles out of that diesel always use motul or liqui moly. And I change oil at 12000 miles on my every car. No carbon .
13mm is swedish too, Most of the bolts/nuts on an old Volvo are 13 or 11
Dammit, Nathan. Somebody get this man a funnel!
Funnels are for beginners 😂
2:51 time stamp beautiful red Porsche. 😁
No funnel 😲 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That’s how so many German engines get ruined, incorrect oil is always used
I’d love to hear some information on drivetrain performance. I had a Saab Arc with a 1.9L turbo, and it was fast. But a 1.9 turbo in an E Class? Sound a little light on displacement. How does that translate to drivetrain reliability? I get these engines are in Sprintzers. But I’d Phil the camera guy going to drive his MB like it’s a van?
It's a 2.1l engine. 204hp 369ft-lbs of torque. Plenty for a small SUV/van.
The difference between a cheapy filter and the right filter is usually less than 3-4$ not worth the risk.
Man, you are putting wrong oil in this baby. Whatever brand to use, it has to be 229.31/51 or C3 certified with low sulfur, otherwise this baby will have shorter life on emission components and related. No wonder modern diesels are lasting longer in Europe than in US.
229.52 mb approved
@@gabrielc5642 OK. Use another bottle next time that shows 229.52.
Always use a funnel when filling your oil ..
Definately the wrong oil!!! The oil he used in this video is one reason Mercedes had an emissions recall as it was destroying the emissions system, clogging up the DFP, filling up the intake manifold with soot. Your oil must have the low ash MB 229.31 or 229.51 specification. I use Pennzoil Euro L that has MB approval. The best oil for this engine is the RedLine 5w40 that is made of natural esters and has no ash at all - zero. However, you will pay twice what you pay for Penzoil Euro L.
Is the 229.52 is same as 229.51? My one says to use the last one but hard find
Can you do an oil change video on your lawn mower?
The spilled oil will mess up the airflow sensor
Che misura ha chiave per filtro olio?
Grazie mille
I don’t mean to get off topic but I have an E66 bmw question.
I am having trouble with my 6hp26 transmission. Was wondering if you knew anyone good in Ontario to fix it
I can't even begin to add up how much money Nathan saved me over the years 🍻
For those who don't want to climb under a car any more and don't have a lift, a small electric pump works very well pulling hot oil out of the dip-stick tube. If you are worried it might leave some old oil behind, you never get 100% out anyway, so change more frequently !
what ab the hose material minorly melting into the block itself? look at funnels for instance. plastic funnels always chip off if a block is hot hahahah. (block is hot, lol cracked myself up there). you always have a tradeoff. drain and fill, always
Is that the right plug?I know for sure W212 E250 cdi Bluetec needs to remove the long undertray and the oil pan is plastic one.Is Mercedes engine in US built different?
no oil pan is plastic bro
All Mann and wiz filters in Europe are made in Poland,,,,Why wouldn't it be up to par with the car or you,,,Poland is a world powerhouse of industry,,Even more so than the stagnant manufacturing industry in the USA ...
What size crush washer is it plz?
Don’t do what?
Everyone making comments on oil please go read up on oil chemistry especially, viscosity and correct specification are equally important, Reading some of the comments made by this guy is very depressing
nice pour
Would you recommend me buying a glk 250 bluetech ? What things can fail ?
don’t if you aren’t willing to do dpf delete and tune accordingly. otherwise prep for a 3-4k replacement cost before 100k
I have a bunch of videos about mine. It's a great car!
Been really good once the DPF fell off and got a tune to shutoff the EGR. Otherwise it was at least twice a year to the dealer for sensors on the emissions shit.
2.1 litter man
Your GLK buddy? :)
No this is Phillips e250
@@NathansBMWWorkshop Cool.
So you dog the filter by saying it must be cheap because it's made in Poland,,Even tho if you knew anything about Mercedes cars you would know Mann filters make the OEM Mercedes filters,,and there all made in Poland,,,,Then you put an American engine oil in it and state it's ok,,,,,,,,Well it's not,,,If you bothered to do a bit of research you would learn that American and European oils have compleatly different additive packages in them,,,,
You're using the completely wrong oil in that car. The oil you're using is for GASOLINE engines! You will ruin the emissions system!
