  • This is the second part of the JR Iida Line cab view. In this video, the train runs 27.3km from Hiraoka Station to Dashina Station.
Part 1 of this section, between Chubu Tenryu and Hiraoka, is here.
    • 前面展望 飯田線核心部パート1 中部天竜→平...
Continuing from last time, in this section the track runs through the bottom of a deep and narrow valley along the Tenryu River. Stations appear frequently, but in recent years the number of people living around them has decreased, and the station has come to be known as a ``unexplored station''. Ironically, this has led to an increase in the number of tourists who are thinking of visiting stations that no one else uses, and this video shows several passengers standing on the platform of each station.
BTW, when I look back at this video for uploading
    "This video only shows tunnels!"
    I realized that.
"This is not a video for relaxation, this is a video for mental training!"
So, I added a cab view of the train past Tenryukyo Station (the name of the station means the gorge created by the Tenryu River), which is the base for driving, and all the way to Dashina Station. (Please note that the actual scenery is a series of tunnels)
North of Tenryukyo Station, the scenery along the Iida Line suddenly changes dramatically, and from here the line continues along the bottom of a wide valley.
The nearly 200km long Iida Line is such a mysterious and attractive line.

A subway line,on a mountain,I counted over 130 tunnels! It's a beautiful ride in the Summer,Spring,or Fall, but come Winter, that trip could get harrowing! The amount of avalanche, and snow sheds, make this line, comparable to the Southern Pacific line, over the Sierras,or the Great Northern line, through the Cascades! Thank you,for the patience and ability to photograph the line,in such proper time! Thank you 😇 😊!

The train I rode over the mountains only once (California Zephyr) went over deeper mountains than the Iida Line. There was snow near the summit. There were people swimming in the pool at the hotel in town. It was an amazing experience for me.
As you can see, the Iida Line runs through deep mountains and has 138 tunnels, including sections not included in this video. In fact, even riding the train can be a bit stressful. However, we can see the Tenryu River on the side, which soothes our hearts. It doesn't show up in the cab view.

@@14ikesan12 I had the amazing ride on the Santa Fe,"Super Chief",and the"San Francisco Chief",prior to Amtrak, and saw a good deal of the South West, and that territory is just as rugged,as the Zephyr's route! Between Cajon Pass, and the New Mexico/ Arizona mountains, and Raton Pass,it gives points to both of the aforementioned lines! Glad that you got to see, some parts of the US,that most people fly over never seeing the grandeur of the scenery, and hopefully getting some idea,of the history! Thank you,for the extra comments, definitely filled in the gaps, and thanks for your courtesy! Thank you 😇 😊!

Before I watch train films on UA-cam, I always read the video descriptions first to know what is being shown there...
In your case, this was very helpful and I agree with you: this journey through many tunnels at the beginning is neither relaxing for the traveler on the train nor in front of the screen. So far I haven't seen any other railway line that has so many tunnels built in quick succession... and you wonder whether building this route was even worth it financially 🤔 - tunnels are always one of the most expensive...
During the journey I didn't see any freight wagons at the stations along the route, only a diesel locomotive and wagons, probably for maintenance of the route and the overhead line. Most likely, a lot or even everything will be relocated to the streets, like here in Europe...!
Thank you very much for showing this, in my opinion, very interesting railway line 🙏
However, a suggestion for future videos: perhaps it is possible to show the map displayed at the beginning showing where this route is for a few seconds longer. I prefer to watch train videos on the larger TV screen... before I can react with the remote control to stop the video because of the overview map, this section is already over... 😄
    Many greetings 🖖

Thank you for your comment. I would like to animate the map at the beginning. Or how fun it would be to make it into 3D using a map app like "Kashmir".
      However, it is surprisingly time-consuming.
I'd rather upload quickly than learn how to use an app. This is a difficult question. (/・ω・)/
In any case, please continue to make suggestions. I will continue to improve.
At first, I didn't even think there would be any access from overseas. The structure changed significantly when I received the suggestion, ``Please include an English explanation, even if it's only one line.''
      It's a very fun episode.

My heavens! Is this mountain railroading or tunnel railroading? Out of one tunnel and into the next, almost continuesly! The engineering that went into this line, where so many of the tunnels have curves in them! It seems as though you spent more time in tunnels than you did outside of them. This is an amazing ride on an amazing line!

This line was built along the deep valley floor carved by the Tenryu River. It was probably the only means of connecting north and south in this mountainous region. In modern times, this problem could be solved by digging long tunnels, but in the past this was not possible. However, the enthusiasm of engineers back then was no different from that of today.

Thank you for another lovely production of yours. I thoroughly enjoyed the train ride through the mountainous areas. The scenery is spectacular with greenery everywhere throughout the ride. An amazing number of tunnels that the train must pass through as well as the bridges the train cross over!
I observed that some stations were empty and there were no passengers boarding. I wonder if the train operators generate enough revenue to sustain operation of the line. I also make another observation. Many stations have no ticket vending machines. Where do passengers buy their tickets?

    • @14ikesan12
      @14ikesan12  Місяць тому

Thank you for your comment. Without a doubt, this line is generating a large deficit. However, there has never been any discussion of abolishing this line. This is probably because everyone recognizes that this route is valuable.
Tickets are purchased from the conductor. Although it is a self-reporting system, there are only a few people getting on and off at each station, and the conductor frequently walks inside the train, so there doesn't seem to be any problems (even in this video, you can sometimes hear the conductor's voice).
He told the customer, ``Wait a minute,'' because the train had arrived at the station and he had to get back into the cab and open and close the door.

68 tunnels in 22km. There can't be many other sections of railway with that ratio of tunnels/km - anywhere. Now a technical question. At some of the stops the image fluctuated, wobbled, undulated - call it what you will - what caused that?

@@14ikesan12 No, there is nothing to apologise for. I was curious about the cause. I thought it might be some technical problem with the camera. I hadn't considered your arm muscles being the cause.

@@roboftherock Since I'm using an iPhone, the focus often shifts against my will. Still, the exposure control is accurate (although there is a time lag), and the quality is completely different from the early iPhones. Then there were advances in editing software. Thanks to this, I am able to take images that I am satisfied with to some extent. All I have to do is keep my arms and legs from weakening! Thank you for your heartfelt reply. Also, please give me some advice.

Do these trains not have lights for the tunnels? Seems a little dangerous for the engineer to be that blind to potential obstacles.

    • @14ikesan12
      @14ikesan12  Місяць тому

The train I rode on was equipped with a total of four headlights, one at the top of the front and one in the center. The reason why it doesn't appear on the screen is probably due to the structure of the cab, which blocks the angle of view of my lens. The video screen is dark, but don't worry.
