篠ノ井線前面展望パート2冠着→篠ノ井 <Cabview Japanrail Shinonoi Line> May 2024
JR Shinonoi Line Cab View Part 2. This video covers the Shinonoi Line from Kamuriki Station north to Shinonoi Station. Part 1, which includes cab views south of Kamuriki Station, is here. ↓
ua-cam.com/video/9Wui6tlmEKQ/v-deo.html
The Shinonoi Line is a line with a total length of 66.7 km, and currently plays a significant role in connecting Nagano City and Matsumoto City, the major cities of Nagano Prefecture. Almost the entire line runs through the mountains, and there are switchbacks at Ubasute Station along the way.
I omitted the inside of the tunnel in this video as well. Please be aware of this. It's refreshing to see short tunnels in the mountains, but I couldn't get rid of the reflection of my own silhouette. I have to blur it out, but this is a remaining issue.
One of the tunnels that was erased still plays an important role on this route. In Part 1 of this route and in the first half of this video, the left side is open in the direction of travel, but the route that passes through the tunnel and reaches the switchback station is open on the right side in the direction of travel. The impression is very different.
Once the track reaches Inariyama Station, the terrain ahead is flat. The train moves smoothly towards Shinonoi Station.

    The second part is also interesting to observe, especially the train operation in the switchback station: this time a second train arrives from the opposite direction - this is how such a method works to quickly compensate for differences in height and is also very cost-effective! 👍 But I also notice that there is a direct switch connection without having to go to the passenger station... maybe for freight trains?? There is a more complex switch connection between Obasute and Inariyama stations, but no station or stopping point as it seems... are these connections for industrial companies or perhaps a lumber company or something similar??? Please excuse the many questions: for me these trips via screen through a country that is foreign to me are very interesting and attractive, I would like to find out so many things that I observe during these trips ☺️ In any case, as always, thank you very much for the opportunity to get to know your beautiful homeland better by train 🙏🙏 Many greetings 🖖

      You noticed it well. The direct switch at Ubasute Station is supposed to be for express trains passing through this station. Freight trains that were operated in the past may have also passed through this route, but I don't know if there is a setup for freight trains now. The signal station between Ubasute Station and Inariyama Station does not seem to be in use at the moment. It seems to have been an essential piece of equipment in the days when steam locomotives were operated. Modern EMUs run very smartly, but they have eliminated the need for some of the railroad equipment. If you have any further questions, please write. I will answer as far as I can understand.

    It was interesting to see that the route is partly single-track and partly double-track! Probably to enable more train traffic - I've seen something similar on some Swiss railway lines... In the tunnel in the middle of the video you can clearly see that there is room for a second track. Was it dismantled - or was it planned to be double-tracked and later only implemented as single-track? Another thing that I noticed not only on this line... how should I best describe it? I don't really know how to express it - it's best to watch it in the video: for example, you can see it for a few seconds from 1:37 onwards and later in various other places on the route, the track is broken on both sides and still has a tapering point Rail connected 🤔🤔 I could imagine that this is used to equalize the temperature in hot and cold, for example...!!??? And one commentator addresses a topic that does not only affect the Japanese railways: the cleanliness and well-maintained condition of the stations and platforms also leaves a lot to be desired in Germany, this has become common practice over many years and this negligence is now partly causing a lot of disruption Delays - the so-called German thoroughness is long gone 🙄 For the upcoming European Football Championship in my home country, the Scottish association has now warned its fans about the tardiness of German trains: in order to be able to see the Scottish team's games live, it is recommended to arrive by train in good time! Best regards 🖖

      The Shinonoi Line also continued to be improved with great expectations. This was in the 1960s and 1970s, and the long tunnel, which is not shown in this video, was replaced by another long-established route that was decommissioned. There was a switchback signal station on that section. Of course, the improvement work included replacing the rails with heavier and tougher ones. I don't know if there were improvements to the curves, but I'm sure such improvements were made everywhere. However, even in Japan, the heyday of railways seems to be over. This can be seen in the growth of weeds on the tracks. The station facilities are also gradually deteriorating. What will happen to this country's railways in the future? Seeing that happen seems to be an important job for us.

    • @14ikesan12
      @14ikesan12 9 годин тому

      I thought I had written a reply, but it seems like it has disappeared. Maybe the Lord was smiling on me and telling me not to be so negative. I may write the same thing twice. There was a time when the Shinonoi Line was continually improved to increase its transportation capacity. This was from the 1960s to the 1970s. The completion of the long tunnel eliminated the need for the old line, which had a switchback signal station. The rails were replaced with heavier and tougher ones, increasing the speed of the trains. However, the heyday of Japanese railways seems to be over. Modern trains don't have the same demand as they used to. I think it is an important job for us to see what will happen to railways in the future. We must follow the Lord's will and try not to think too negatively.

    Another interesting look at Japanese railways! The old, parked electric locomotives, with their front end, are somewhat similar to the Swiss (CE 6/8 II) and German (E 194) "crocodile“ or the German E 117 or E 144 series Some of the industrial area looks quite old and rusty, almost like an industrial monument like here in Germany's Ruhr area with the old steelworks... today partly a museum! You're lucky that many Japanese electric and diesel railcars have a driver's cab that's open to the passenger compartment! This makes it easy to get a view of the route with the camera. In current German trains, the locomotive drivers' cabins are separated from the passenger compartment and as a private railway fan you can hardly take any film footage as a cab view. I think in the vast majority of current videos from Europe it is the train drivers themselves who are allowed to attach cameras either directly in the driver's cab or on the outside of the locomotive, of course certainly not without first asking their employers or railway companies for permission. Finally, a suggestion: I read in a comment that a viewer wanted to encourage you to not only shoot HD videos in the future, but in the better 4K format. You asked for patience so that you could purchase better film equipment... Why don't you also introduce a so-called "Super thanks" button like many other channels (not just railways, actually possible on all topics)??? So I would be there and would like to support you through this donation opportunity - your videos are very interesting and your eye for the subject proves that you can also take photos very well 😊 many greetings 🖖

      Thank you for your compliments and valuable suggestions. An important point that I must not forget is that if I can introduce good equipment, it will be a return to the viewers. The system you recommend is a fact to consider. Transporting paper products was an important part of this railway's entire line. There was a parking track at each station, and many freight cars were always parked there. There were also many electric locomotives running. But that's a thing of the past. Trucks are the mainstay of transportation today. It would be fun to see so many freight cars and electric locomotives again.

An amazing number of tunnels that the train must pass through as well as the bridges the train cross over! I observed that some stations were empty and there were no passengers boarding. I wonder if the train operators generate enough revenue to sustain operation of the line. I also make another observation. Many stations have no ticket vending machines. Where do passengers buy their tickets?

      Thank you for your comment. Without a doubt, this line is generating a large deficit. However, there has never been any discussion of abolishing this line. This is probably because everyone recognizes that this route is valuable. Tickets are purchased from the conductor. Although it is a self-reporting system, there are only a few people getting on and off at each station, and the conductor frequently walks inside the train, so there doesn't seem to be any problems (even in this video, you can sometimes hear the conductor's voice). He told the customer, ``Wait a minute,'' because the train had arrived at the station and he had to get back into the cab and open and close the door.

    A subway line,on a mountain,I counted over 130 tunnels! It's a beautiful ride in the Summer,Spring,or Fall,but come Winter,that trip could get harrowing! The amount of avalanche,and snow sheds,make this line,comparable to the Southern Pacific line,over the Sierras,or the Great Northern line,through the Cascades! Thank you,for the patience and ability to photograph the line,in such proper time! Thank you 😇 😊!

      The train I rode over the mountains only once (California Zephyr) went over deeper mountains than the Iida Line. There was snow near the summit. There were people swimming in the pool at the hotel in town. It was an amazing experience for me. As you can see, the Iida Line runs through deep mountains and has 138 tunnels, including sections not included in this video. In fact, even riding the train can be a bit stressful. However, we can see the Tenryu River on the side, which soothes our hearts. It doesn't show up in the cab view.

    Do these trains not have lights for the tunnels? Seems a little dangerous for the engineer to be that blind to potential obstacles.

      The train I rode on was equipped with a total of four headlights, one at the top of the front and one in the center. The reason why it doesn't appear on the screen is probably due to the structure of the cab, which blocks the angle of view of my lens. The video screen is dark, but don't worry.

    My heavens! Is this mountain railroading or tunnel railroading? Out of one tunnel and into the next, almost continuesly! The engineering that went into this line, where so many of the tunnels have curves in them! It seems as though you spent more time in tunnels than you did outside of them. This is an amazing ride on an amazing line!

      This line was built along the deep valley floor carved by the Tenryu River. It was probably the only means of connecting north and south in this mountainous region. In modern times, this problem could be solved by digging long tunnels, but in the past this was not possible. However, the enthusiasm of engineers back then was no different from that of today.

    Before I watch train films on UA-cam, I always read the video descriptions first to know what is being shown there... In your case, this was very helpful and I agree with you: this journey through many tunnels at the beginning is neither relaxing for the traveler on the train nor in front of the screen. So far I haven't seen any other railway line that has so many tunnels built in quick succession... and you wonder whether building this route was even worth it financially 🤔 - tunnels are always one of the most expensive... During the journey I didn't see any freight wagons at the stations along the route, only a diesel locomotive and wagons, probably for maintenance of the route and the overhead line. Most likely, a lot or even everything will be relocated to the streets, like here in Europe...! Thank you very much for showing this, in my opinion, very interesting railway line 🙏 However, a suggestion for future videos: perhaps it is possible to show the map displayed at the beginning showing where this route is for a few seconds longer. I prefer to watch train videos on the larger TV screen... before I can react with the remote control to stop the video because of the overview map, this section is already over... 😄 Many greetings 🖖

    • @14ikesan12

      Thank you for your comment. I would like to animate the map at the beginning. Or how fun it would be to make it into 3D using a map app like "Kashmir". However, it is surprisingly time-consuming. I'd rather upload quickly than learn how to use an app. This is a difficult question. (/・ω・)/ In any case, please continue to make suggestions. I will continue to improve. At first, I didn't even think there would be any access from overseas. The structure changed significantly when I received the suggestion, ``Please include an English explanation, even if it's only one line.'' It's a very fun episode.

    This video makes me want to comment again: at first glance it seems very unreal compared to the usual train films - almost as if it was created on the computer... (CGI). But if you look closer, especially at moving objects off the track, you quickly realize that it must be real! In any case, this would be the ideal setting for a science fiction film ☺️ I wanted to ask how these trains run, because I didn't find a rail as usual... but then I read the question from a German train driver in the comments and your answer to it... then everything was clear 😊 As far as I know, nothing like the one shown here can be found in Germany - very impressive!!!

      Thank you for your comment. This route runs through the valley between buildings, sometimes facing this way, sometimes facing another way, so there are inevitably backlit scenes. Therefore, I increased the backlight correction in my video editing software. The result was a picture that looked like a computer graphic. I thought it was a bit of a lie, but I also felt that it might be interesting. Apparently, it was a young couple who discovered the fun of this route. It seems that the night view has become a date course.

    What a "wild ride" through the Japanese railway landscape... Your previous videos showed rather slow-moving trains, but here express trains to get from "A" to "B" quickly - that was very interesting to watch!!! As a train fan, until recently I only knew the famous "Shinkansen" trains... But Japan has so much more to offer, and not just when it comes to trains! The three-rail track that one of your commentators noticed appears to exist worldwide: it has become rather rare in Germany since the narrow-gauge railways no longer run regularly here but are mostly only used as museum trains - recently discovered in a UA-cam video on a trip to Switzerland: the Rhaetian train runs on narrow gauge, the Swiss SBB on standard gauge (1435 mm). The world of railways is fascinating, thank you for showing us the diversity of Japanese railways 👍

      RhB was 1m gauge. But while riding it, I don't feel like it's poor. It's luxurious. And the world's slowest express has better not reach its destination early. Keihin Kyuko has traditionally been oriented towards high-speed operation in order to win competition with the parallel Japanese National Railways. It takes a long time for the train to accelerate, and it takes a long time to start decelerating. Even if the timetable is disrupted, trains will run as far as possible without having to wait at stations along the way. The staff at this company say, "Because this is Keihin Kyuko."

    • @14ikesan12
      @14ikesan12 3 дні тому

      Thank you for your comment. In addition to mechanical brakes, trains on this line are equipped with electronically controlled pneumatic brakes. Regenerative brake is not included. Since the route is infrequently operated, it may be difficult to use Regenerative brakes. Since there are many stations, I think you need to be careful when driving. Smooth driving and announcements are probably the result of training.

    Thank you very much for taking us on film on this journey on a friendly, small narrow-gauge route 🙏👍 Such small trains have a unique flair - and because the camera you used at the time didn't have an image stabilizer, you could feel or "see" every jolt when crossing the screwed together tracks 😊 On a modern line the rail joints would of course be welded! Interesting for me to see that on many Japanese branch lines the outgoing switch connections are not set by hand or by a signal box but are "cut open" by the train! These are probably so-called "fallback switches" which fall back into their original position after the train has passed over them - very practical! ☺️ In my area there was also a narrow-gauge railway with a 750 mm gauge. It was opened to passenger traffic in 1901 and opened up a romantic river valley over around 39 kilometers. But like almost everywhere else in Germany, these small railways were discontinued because they were unprofitable and were usually completely dismantled afterwards. However, the named route was preserved for use as a museum line because of its beauty and has now experienced a renaissance in recent years after operations had to be stopped in 1988 due to track and bridge damage. Now it is being gradually rebuilt by an active museum association 👍🤗

      For many railway fans in Japan, especially those who also make models, Koppel is the most coveted brand. That passion hasn't changed, and it seems to me that it's only gotten stronger now that the idyllic scenery of small locomotives has become a thing of the past. There are still some 2-foot, 6-inch gauge railways left in Japan today, but the modern style of rolling stock has made it difficult to remember the scenery of the past.

    As you have already noticed: every time you travel by train there is something different and new to discover... 😊 The weather was very windy in this section as you could tell from the grass and trees blowing strongly in the wind! So it was certainly good to film from the inside and not from the outside in sections because of the wind noise... Typical for me as a non-Japanese are the electrical cables for houses and street lighting that are laid above ground on poles: I wonder why they haven't been laid underground long ago - especially in a country with a lot of earthquakes like Japan... 🤔 but it certainly has also something to do with the long history of your country! And there are apparently also female train fans: in one of the last stops she stood on the platform filming with a smartphone - and then there were a few men to the left of the train track, who with a tripod and camera controlled the train against the fantastic backdrop of the snow-covered mountains wanted to take photos... 😊 This ride turned out to be really nice again, even though unfortunately it didn't quite make it to the end point...
