I can’t think of Huey Lewis and the News without thinking of two iconic movies. Back to the Future and American Psycho.
Why are there copies of the style section all over the place, do you have a dog? A little chow or something?
Yes! I always associate Huey Lewis and the News with the Back To The Future movies. Saw them in concert about 5 years ago and they're still great.
The other thing I think of is MTV. Huey Lewis and The News was all over MTV with several music videos.
Love me some Huey Lewis and The News.
Ha. I made the same comment. :)
I had introduced my son to back to the future which he loves by the way all 3 of them but it was nice being able to point out in the 1st movie that that was him that sang the songs
The album SPORTS was like a greatest hits album. No bad songs !!
Seriously it was!
I wholeheartedly agree!
agreed :D
I still have that record. But nothing to play it on...
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically
80's, Yes the best decade. That was a music video for MTV
I'm so glad that today's generation is finally starting to hear CLASSIC Music. 60s, 70s, and 80s true music
Good call on Hall & Oates. I don't think many people, including those of us who were around in the 70s and 80s, actually realize how many hits Hall & Oates had! Same goes for Billy Joel.
Really hoping you would get around to Huey Lewis and The News, growing up in the Bay Area they are a home band that made some excellent music. Hoping you will take a listen to other tunes like "Heart and Soul", "Bad is Bad", "I Want a New Drug", "If This Is It", all from the Sports album. Thanks for the upload!
This is quintessential '80s. I wore my cassette tape of the Sports album out in my car stereo.
I love Huey Lewis and The News! Amber will so love this rabbit hole.
Me too. Huge Huey Lewis fan. 3rd thru 7th grade in Bay Area (Daly City '81-84, Hercules '84-'86)
Yeah, I love a lot of Huey Lewis and the News music, but Bad is Bad is one of my favorites
Hip To Be Square!
I think the point of this song was, coming out of the 70's where disco ruled a lot of people were saying that rock and roll was dead. But if you look at new genres like punk and metal you'll find the 'heart' of what rock and roll is, within them. They may look a bit different, but it's still there.
Yes. But also, I think today it feels a bit like it represents us old farts keeping it alive ;-)
Was just coming here to state exactly this...it was an answer to disco.
Metal isn't new at all.
No matter what generation it is or what title you want to call it, music will never die.
Never never will rock n roll die. And thank you for helping keep it alive. People just don't know what they are missing.
I saw them in concert. I'd forgotten the joy of their music. You made this 60 year old man smile! Thank you so very much.
This song came out in the 80s. I think Huey Lewis is honoring the 'roots' of rock and roll from the 50s & 60s. It's like Bob Seger sings in his song - That Old Time Rock and Roll:. 'Today's music ain't got the same soul. I like that old time rock and roll. '
Nailed it.
@@matthewdrake4385 nope.
I think Huey is just saying, no matter how different it may sound, it's all just Rock'n'Roll, and that included today's variations.
And now we say it about todays music
Rock and roll hasn't really been a genre since probably the 60s though. I agree totally with what Bob Seger said in the 80s about old time rock and roll. If you flip thru the radio, most of the music is pop and rap based and is disposable and will be forgotten with 5 years. Granted, you do have rock bands, but most haven't released new music in ages. The genre of classic rock gets extended more and more. What's crazy is a band like Linkin Park is now considered classic.
Interesting trivia: In Back To The Future, Huey Lewis plays the school admin who eliminates Marty McFly's band from auditions for the prom, saying "I'm sorry, boys, but I'm afraid you're just too darn loud."
And now Huey has lost his hearing.
Haha that is right
I had forgotten about that!!!
The best part of that is Marty's band is playing a Huey Lewis song (Power of Love).
Yep!
The old folks are barely breathing, but the heart of rock and roll, heart of rock and roll is the beat. Meaning, that rock and roll is for the young and the old folks can't cut it. I'm 75 years young and I beg to differ. I watch your reactions every day. It comes from the heart.
Rock and Roll Will Never Die!!!!!!!
Truly one of the greatest 80's bands in my opinion. “Do You Believe in Love”, "Workin' for a Livin”, "Heart and Soul", "I Want a New Drug", "If This Is It", "The Power of Love", "Stuck with You", "Hip to Be Square", "Doing It All for My Baby", and "It's Alright" are all great songs to listen to. One of my favorite CDs of all time is “Time Flies…The Best of Huey Lewis & The News. I was on such a Huey Lewis kick in college in the early to mid-2000s and I played that CD to death.
Yes this is the rabbit hole they need to go down. They need to do all the songs you mentioned here
I want a new drug too. One that don't make me sleep
All you need is to go through this list to get a great look at what Huey Lewis and The News were all about. They were a very upbeat positive band that were highly underrated and these days all but forgotten.
Sadly Rock N Roll is kind of dying and it’s terribly unfortunate to see.
Oh, ALL of those song! It's so sad that Huey isn't really able to sing anymore!
And don't forget USA for Africa
It was 1983 when *Heart Of Rock and Roll* came across our airwaves. *Huey Lewis and The News* had some good hits to boot *:I Want A New Drug, Hip To Be Square, Back In Time, Doing It All For My Baby, Power Of Love, Workin' For A Livin', Stuck You, Bad Is Bad and Do You Believe In Love* made their way to our ears. To Answer Amber's question, yeah our parents had no idea what our music was with New Wave, Alternative and Heavy Metal also The beginnings of Rap, Hip Hop. And being in my fifties now, I don't always understand the new music of today but it doesn't make it all bad. As far as Bands being Huge *Foo Fighters and Kiss* are still doing arena tours. *Love ❤️ Peace ✌️ and Happiness 😃 Y'all !!*
The real kiss ended in 1980 then to say quick hello in 1996 after that done
Definitely I want a new drug!
Well, real rock and roll was dead by the late 80s as far as I was concerned at the time. It came back to life in 1991 with grunge and alternative, but when I was a freshman in highschool in 1989 my friends and I had many conversations about how real rock and roll was dead (we didn't consider butt rock glam hair bands and heavy metal "real rock" - we were raised on our parent's 60s and 70s rock) - around that time one of the only bands that we considered still holding it together was the Black Crowes. Then slowly, first Faith No More, then a couple others, then *boom* Nirvana and Pearl Jam hit the scene, and that music changed my brain's understanding of what music was.
I graduated HS in 1983. Best year ever!!!!!!!!!
Don’t forget Heart and Soul
I love when Amber gets excited over a song. It is so adorable.
How can you not smile and feel great hearing this song? One of the best bands ever assembled IMHO. Glad you guys loved it! 🕺
Hope someone has already suggested "If This Is It" ... an under-appreciated singer and band. You've got some great music ahead of you. :)
That's my favorite song of theirs.
I agree with all the Huey Lewis and The News songs in the comments, but I would also add one of their biggest hits, “I Want A New Drug”. It pops!
In my opinion, the lyrics refer to anyone & everyone who has been a fan of rock music. I’m a 70 year old woman, and the music I enjoyed as a kid, a teenager, young adult, etc. is part of my soul & spirit! So even if my health fades, my love of that music never will. That’s my interpretation. Thanks soooo much for what you’re doing to keep the music playing!! Love y’all!
Huey Louis and the News is the band I've seen most, I've been to 3 concerts. Every concert started with that song. It was awesome!
Huey Lewis ruled the 80s! Great songs! Got another good 80s song for you. If you want violins and sax in one song along with beautiful vocals, you need to listen to INXS- Never Tear us Apart. The song is one of their best and been recommended a ton of times so far.
INXS- Lots of their songs are great. Time to dive into them.
@@donstallings4276 I totally agree. Also great are I Need you Tonight, Disappear, Beautiful Girl, Devil inside, new sensation and probably more I'm not thinking about at the moment
INXS mysterious ways from the album Achtung Baby very good song
Yes!
Second only to AC/DC... INXS are probably the greatest Australian musical export ever... Hit after hit just dominated the airwaves through the 80s and 90s... Michael Hutchence... Well what can you say?... Probably one of the most charismatic front men to ever grace a stage. There was a movie made about INXS that was approved by the remaining members too.. Awesome movie that showed a side to Hutchence that so few people ever knew. So many memories tied into their music for me.
You mentioned "USA For Africa", Huey Lewis was a part of that as well. He is the artist who has a solo and is standing next to Cindy Lauper and Kim Carnes.
One person that’s in there (We Are The World) is Dan Aykroyd…since they reacted to the Blue Brothers recently. John Belushi died 3 years before that song was done.
The Rock and Roll Hall Fame is in Cleveland by the way.
Huey Lewis had a part in We are the World
The "barely breathin'" line is just referencing the age of the originators of rock n roll. Artists like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, etc. But, despite their age, their LEGACY-which is the SPIRIT of rock n roll lives on everywhere. Different clothes, different musical approaches, but same attitude and spirit.
I absolutely LOVE Amber's spontaneous outbursts of pure joy! Huey Lewis and the News had a slew of hits and a definite sound. This was a great introduction to this band for you.
Loved Amber's "Yaaassss" when Huey does his dt dt dt dt at the start of the final chorus.
Huey Lewis and the News is one of my all-time favorites.
Me too I love that!
They were 3rd with #1s in the 80s only behind MJ and Hall&Oates👍
Huey Lewis was a great band to see in concert back in the '80s. I saw him with the Tower of Power Horns and loved it! He also had a cameo appearance in the classic movie "Back to the Future". In an early scene when "Marty's" band is auditioning for a school function, they start playing a Huey Lewis song, only to be interrupted by one of the judges to be told "It's just too loud". That judge is Huey!
Now imagine hearing this in a crowded, darkened room where the only light is coming from arcade games and the jukebox. The music is competing with the "wokka wokka wokka" from PacMan and the footsteps and springing noises from Donkey Kong. Sinistar is yelling "Run! Run! Run!"
You flip a buddy another quarter to plug into the jukebox, just so we can hear this song again.
Total vibe.
I think the idea behind this, and something like Billy Joel's "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me", was that there was always still a continuing legacy from blues and early rock and roll that carried over into newer music, even in styles like punk and metal and new wave...
I agree. The same can be said about "Old Time Rock and Roll" from Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. All 3 songs are favorites of mine.
This is so 80s! YET SO TIMELESS! Try "If This is It" by Huey Lewis & The News.
You ARE keeping the heart of Rock and Roll Alive you two. Rob Squad Forever!!
I once heard a music critic say that this song, "The Heart of Rock 'n Roll" was a great tribute to all those small cities that _"the heart" of rock 'n roll_ came from...Buddy Holly (Lubbock, Texas), Elvis (born in Tupeldo, MS, raised in Memphis, TN), Chuck Berry, (St. Louis, MO), Jerry Lee Lewis _aka_ The Big Bopper (born in Ferriday, LA, raised in norther Lousiana), Bo Diddly (born in McComb, MS, raised mostly in Chicago, IL), Little Richard (born and raised in Macon, GA).
And that NY, and LA were where most of the major rock 'n roll artists went to record their records once they became famous...but, the "heart" of rock 'n roll came from small cities in the USA. That was why those great rock 'n roll artists are shown in that video and why Huey mentions those small towns in this song. And that in those cities, the "heart of rock 'n roll is still beating".
The music critics last comments at the time were valid. When Huey Lewis and the News released this song, the major bands were still, mainly, coming from those small towns, not New York and Los Angeles.
I enjoyed watching and hearing your reactions. And yeah, Rock 'n Roll is dead now, at least the real Rock 'n Roll. It became Rock, then Pop, with mixtures of those two genres. What exists today does not even come close to what the 50's and 60's produced. The 70's to 80's Pop was great. The 90's were pretty good, but Pop was dying. After that..."Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie", "The Music Died".
Yes this is 80's, and Huey Lewis was the majority of the Back to the Future I sound track. "The power of Love", and "If this is it", are 2 others worth giving a listen.
I saw Huey Lewis right after he sang at the MLB All-Star Game...he open the show with an acapella version of the national anthem. He nailed it!!! Double standing ovation to start the show. It was a great concert. If you want to hear a true jam...Working for a living...one of the most exciting harmonicas I've ever heard.
LoL I went to that All Star game at Candlestick Park. I was late walking in to HL singing the Nat'l Anthem.
@@tigerprayers2824 I saw him two or three days later after the All Star Game...he was performing in Cleveland (Blossom Music Center)...it was his first performance after singing on national TV. Beautiful voice. Great show.
Saw them at Poplar Creek. They ran out of songs to play. So asked the crowd if we minded if he jams on the harmonica for awhile. We went crazy as he did an incredible solo. Then they replayed some of their best songs for an encore.
Great concert
Working for a Living! Saw him at Ravinia outside Chicago. He was terrific.
"I'm takin' what they're givin' cuz I'm workin' for a livin'" -- I quote that line often. Great song! Huey Lewis and the News are big time part of my personal soundtrack. Do You Believe in Love, The Power of Love (Back to the Future fame), If This is It... really, you cannot go wrong with them.
Huey Lewis and the news was one of the 80s most popular groups everrr. They have many hits.
Rich will never die is just changed alot. I love old school
my mom was in her mid 70's , And she Loved Huey Lewis.... He will bring you up, thats for sure.
They had more hits in the 80s than anyone. One of my favorite groups. Voted the group of the decade. They never took them selves to serious, just having fun.
You've just opened up a deep, deep rabbit hole. At least a decade worth of hits. "It's Hip To Be Square" came out about the time of MTV. Lyrics say: " I like my bands in business suits, I watch them on TV". This was also the time when "Bad" became Good. So they wrote a song "Sometimes Bad Is Bad". Message delivered in a humorous way. Thanks!
Huey Lewis and the News is a late 70s /80s band. Huey has such a good voice. Kids, you need to go back to my time, I was a musician in those days. Good to see you discovering the good 'ol' stuff.
During the 80s with all the alternative music that was coming out, guys like Huey Lewis and Bob Seger, just wanted to remind us, rock and roll never forgets!
There was a feeling by some in the early 80s that Rock-n-Roll was dying with the introduction of the synthesizer. New Wave was in high gear. Euro Techno was on the rise. Also, the development of other studio technologies. Billy Joel's "It Still Rock and Roll To Me" touches on this topic a bit.
When you think of Rock and Roll from the 50's and 60's you are thinking you are thinking Lead Guitar, a bass guitar, and a simple drum kit and the apex of Rock and Roll can best be heard in bands of the late 60's like The Beatles or Rolling Stones when they add an electric piano. Starting in the very late 60's and early 70's the electric piano was being replaced with a synth. This is when Rock and Roll started to morph into something not quite rock and roll anymore, but still a rock feel. Is that dying? Not really sure, because when you really listen you can still pick out the Rock Roots. By the time Huey Lewis rolled around, "the old one was barely breathing, but the heart of rock and roll was still beating..."
Absolutely!! Billy Joel's "it's still rock and roll to me" was almost CPR for rock and roll ad we new it.
The holy trinity, Old Time Rock n Rock, Still Rock n Roll to Me, Heart of Rock n Roll
Even rock itself was becoming harder edged, with AC/DC, then into the harder bands, speed metal, death metal, thrash. HL&tN was a total throwback to the 50's style, as exemplified here. Big bands, sax, no synth. Even now, though, they don't sound all that dated- more of a timeless sound. That's why you can still listen to them and not laugh at the sound.
It’s funny that you mentioned We Are The World. I don’t know if you did that knowing Huey Lewis is in that video or not, but he most definitely is in it. It would be cool to see you guys listen to that again after listening to some more of the artists on it. In particular I don’t believe you’ve listened to Kim Carnes, Kenny Loggins, Sheila E, James Ingram or Jeffrey Osborn yet.
Sheila E is awesome. Prince helped her get started. I believe they were engaged for awhile.
Don’t forget Steve Perry!
Definitely James Ingram. Since they like Linda Ronstadt already, I know they'd love their duet "Somewhere Out There."
Love Kenny Logins. Started out as Logins and Messina.
absolutely listen to Heart and Soul by them. Huey Lewis is a really fine singer and the band is always so tight. Yes its the 80s indeed!
Huey Lewis and News. What a band. I saw that a few times over the years. Good ol' fashioned Rock and Roll. Great time, every time!!!
I always loved Huey Lewis - he was like the super cool dad of your best friend. It's sad that he can no longer sing because of hearing loss due to Meniere's disease. But he gave us a lot of awesome songs. I would suggest you also check out "Jacob's Ladder", "Do You Believe in Love", "I Want a New Drug", "Heart & Soul", "Power of Love" & "Walkin' on a Thin Line".
Yes, many great songs! "Do you believe in Love" still my favorite of theirs though. Would be a great reaction song for them!
This is a great analogy. He always seemed like that cool 9 to 5 guy that just rocked out in his garage and somehow made it big. Not over the top crazy, all show 80s rockers.
The old artists are passing on, but their music is still alive…
Huey Lewis & and the News, are one of the best bands l have been fortunate enough to see when they did one of their rare tours of the UK.
I have seen many many bands big and little, but the News have to go down as one of the best pure rock and roll/blues bands l have ever seen.
Their unique style of joyful feel good music is a joy to see and hear.
If you want to see a great fun video the watch ‘Stuck With You’ filmed in the Bahamas,
When Huey Lewis played in my home town of Manchester, UK, my daughter who was 10 or 11 waited outside the stage door to get his autograph. The crowds pushed her up against the guard rails, and to his credit both Huey Lewis and his lead guitarist Jonny Colla spotted her getting crushed and both came to her rescue, pulled her through the rails and made sure she was alright.
Needless to say, we both still love their music. So am thrilled you highlighted it, thank you.
My recommendations are Stuck with you, and Working for a living.
Another group that really never had a bad song. Absolutely love Huey Lewis and The News!
Love Amber's reactions. A lot of reactors are a bit stone-faced when listening to the song, then afterwards start gushing about it -- but it's a lot more fun to see that enjoyment right in the moment. Keep on rockin', guys! 🤘
This great song & the reaction from both of you reminded me of Brian Setzer. That's somebody you should definitely listen to. He was in the group, Stray Cats in the 80s- Rock This Town is a joy to hear- & headed The Brian Setzer Orchestra in the 90s. Their song, Jump Jive An' Wail is one of the most entertaining songs you'll ever hear. Lots of great songs from Brian in both incarnations. I promise - you guys will LOVE these songs!!
OMG, I’d forgotten about the Stray Cats, they were amazing and Jay and Amber you would 100% love them! Rock this town,
Jump, jive and wail,
The stray cat strut
and many more. I love rockabilly💜🌈🙏🏻
Yes!!!!
I saw Stray Cats back when they first came out at Royal Oak music theater in Royal Oak ,Mi !! Setzer is awesome and under appreciated.
YES! Start with the Brian Setzer Orchestra doing "Jump Jive an' Wail" and go from there.
The band had a great tagline "Five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, bass, drums, and one very electric guitar"
Oooo! Great recommendation!!!!!
I'm 68 and that popping beat still riffs-up my blood the best blasting music was a fast moving storm and a free-flowing time
Yup ... The heart of Rock & Roll is still beating. "Power of Love" is another one of his hits to check out.
Huey Lewis was in the We are the World video. This is sooo 80''s. I graduated in 1987. Best time ever!
if you go deeper, this will be one of your favorite bands, horns, piano, harmony, upbeat, fun music. Huey checks all the boxes, the whole Sports album is pure Gold.
Rock N Roll Will Never Die
Huey Lewis and the News, Billy Joel, and Queen are my top 3 of all time. Glad you're enjoying it!
The guy in white, scootin' across the stage with his guitar, near the end of the song, appears to be none other than the Legend himself... Chuck Berry!
And Elvis.
I was going to make the same. That stepping he was doing while holding the guitar perpendicular to his body is trademark Berry!
That was definitely Chuck Berry, doing his trademark "duck walk."
@@milwaukeejt That's it! I couldn't remember what it was called. Thanks😀
Chuck Berry is the God of Rock.
To respond to Amber's question, "The old boy may be barely breathing," refers to the singer I think. As in the type of rock music he listened to when he was younger might not be hot anymore but the new stuff is still rock.
heyb hey my my rockn roll will never die hell no
"The Heart of Rock & Roll" is a song performed by Huey Lewis and the News, released as the third single from their 1983 album
Huey Lewis and The News were HUGE in the early 80s. Those of us who grew up during that time, HL&TN and Hall and Oats are a pretty big part of the soundtrack of our youth.
Hall and Oates... :)
Now you will recognize Huey when he sings in the “We Are The World” video!
I was lucky enough to see Huey Lewis and the News, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan and double trouble play together. It was awesome. 👍
My grandpa who attacked pearl harbor saw them live in concert here in Japan he loved it so much
Love it!! He was actually the guy who sang before Cyndi Lauper in the USA for Africa song.
It goes to show you guys, how perceptive he was. He's telling futuristically even though the rock and roll and all of our other cool music that you've been listening to was there and seemed it was going to stay forever, he saw it . A lot of us did but I never expected it to be so gone as it is now. Mine blower!
I saw Huey at Springfest in upstate New York back in the 80's he was the best act that day ... what a showman
I love "Do you believe in Love"
Every song of Huey's is amazing. You can't find a bad one in the bunch
I have great suggestion for Female Friday. Norah Jones-What am I to you? It has a blues sound to it. Most people don’t realize who her father was. Ravi Shankar was considered to be the best Sitar player in the 1960’s and was a huge influence on George Harrison of The Beatles.
I love Huey Lewis. One little know fact about him. He started the band and had one standing rule. NO DRUGS!!! If a band member was caught doing any illegal drug they would be gone. No questions asked. And the entire band stayed together the entire time the band was together.
You guys have proved that " the heart of rock and roll IS still beating!!!!!
Huey Lewis & the News was basically a “bar band” that made it big‼️And deservedly so. I saw them in concert & they somehow made it feel like the intimate experience of jamming in a much smaller venue. Others have mentioned some of their other hits. I’m in agreement you definitely should react to any of those. Love this band.
I regret to this day that I had tickets to see them, in the early 80s, but I was sick that day. I was never in the right place again and now it's too late. 🤩😍 😢
When I saw them they had the Tower of Power horn section with them! It was a great concert!
They where my very first Concert. It was Amazing
You can’t get any more 1980s than this. Huey Lewis had a cameo in “Back to the Future.” He had songs in the soundtrack and was in We Are The World. Iconic 1980s.
This song made a statement about the Quality of rock and roll during the eighties and how different it was, that's why you see Huey going back to the late 50s style of rock and roll and showing the icons of that era. but in the end modern rock and roll with all the flash and style still had the beating heart of the early bands. Huey and the news were a revival band of the era.
My wife grew up on Huey Lewis. The song was released around 1985, after disco and as "big hair" bands started up. That's why he made this song. I guess as a throwback to early rock and roll.
True story: Huey Lewis learned to play harmonica backpacking around Europe. Also sadly he has lost the hearing in at least one ear if not both-but his was a voice (and this album specifically) that for me was in the soundtrack to my freshman year of college 1983/84.
He has Meniere’s disease. I have it too. The hearing loss is remitting. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being deaf as a post, and 10 being "normal" you might be a 5 one day, and a 2 the next. The hearing loss is bad, but the "drop attacks" of vertigo are the worst. Some days I have to hang on with both hands to keep from falling off the floor.
@@TheBarkinFrog wow sorry to hear it. I believe he mentioned the disease but didn’t give as much detail as you did in what I read. Truly sad-and it must be really rough for anyone afflicted with it.
@@tombanaski3251 - yes, I have Meniere's disease too and sadly Huey can't hear enough out of his ears to hear his own pitch.. so his singing days are over. Yes, the vertigo is terrible and it affects your quality of life. There is no cure for it.
Huey Lewis & the News rocked the '80's. Album "SPORTS" is excellent. The blank looks on their faces represents the Disco, Punk Rock and the New Wave era's. Rock n Roll is the fabric from which all great music stems from...including all the use of sampling for Rap or Hip Hop.
Huey Lewis is guaranteed to get you up and running.
It’s the 80s-ist thing to ever 80s. I saw them in concert when I was 15 y/o (in 2016) and grew up on this music, even as a Gen Z!
When Huey Lewis presented the “Sports” Album to his record company they told him that they thought nearly all those songs were potential hits.
I can't wait for more. Just so excited. Still waiting on Bread, any song of theirs.
Especially Diary, Aubrey, Baby I'm a Want You . . . OK you're right David, all are great, any will do!
Huey Lewis and The News in the mid 80's were HUGE!!! Two of their albums 'Sports' and 'Fore' were insanely popular and were constantly on the airwaves. They died out towards the end of that decade, but for that period of time when they were popular, they were big!! I could give tons of songs.. Hip To Be Square, If This Is It, Do You Believe In Love, Power Of Love, I Want A New Drug, Bad Is Bad, etc, but have fun going down this rabbit hole!
Huey Lewis and the news was very under rated. Very good band.
YES! So Huey Lewis and the News is one of my top 6 favorite bands. I loooove these guys. You really cannot miss with any of their hits. Hip to Be Square, If this is it, remake of It's Alright etc.. such good ones.
Very 80s..
Also, Huey has struggled with hearing loss, so gooo him! He's so great. You may remember him slugging it out with Cyndi in We Are The World.
You never think Huey Lewis is one of your favourite singers and then when you hear a song you start dancing and singing all the words sign of a great band.🇨🇦
Best Rock and Roll 🎶😈Band of the 80's 💯🎸🎸🎸🤘
The first time I heard this I was wearing earphones...and I was blown away..!
The albums " Sports " and " Fore " are pop/rock masterpieces...the album " Small World ", although not as successful commercially, is their best musically and artistically...jazz-rock that reminds you of Steely Dan, with a dash of blues. Great live too
Patrick Bateman would agree!! :)
We had a 50's renaissance back in the 80's, things from the 50's where hot, and some of the current music, and Pop Culture, really touched on that trend. And yes, Rock N Roll is still alive, just not that Popular It is easier to mumble on Spotify than to actually perform with instruments!
Stray Cats
Saw Stray Cats open for the Stones ... liked Brian and the boys better than Mick and Keith. (Second time I saw the Stones and they had Living Colour opening - repeat of better band opening)
I LOVE watching younger folks discover music I grew up with. neenr neenr neenr ..... got to see him live in concert when this came out.
The heart of Rock and Roll will never die. Someone will always remember...
This is VERY DEFINITELY 80s. Huey Lewis & The News was my favorite 80s group. They had MANY BIG hits in the 80s. I even got to see them live on my 21st birthday in 1985. Their third album, Sports, which this song is from, is one of the biggest selling albums of all time. This is from 1983.
Great song choice! Thanks for this🙏 Huey Lewis and The News have a lot of great hits to react to especially from the 80s. Power of Love is probably one of their biggest. They're also amazing singing the national anthem. Great rock & roll is still out there even tho may feel throughout different trends it seems to take a back seat-- the heart is still beating💙
POWER OF LOVE
HIP TO BE SQUARE
I WANT A NEW DRUG
This was one of the wildest concert bands dance In the aisles concerts
I'm 75 years old and I started listening to rock & roll about, 1955 Bill Halle and the comets all kinds of great music and great dances, I learned to jitterbug from my mother
about 20 years ago I switched to classic country because pop music has become a waste land. I really enjoy your reaction channel.
Huey tells you what the "Heart of R &R" is in the song; the backbeat. Bass drum on 1 and 3.
One of the best bands of the '80s. Amazing musicians, and they all could just walk up to 5 microphones and harmonize in 5 parts. Deep rabbit hole, if y'all want to listen to more HL&TN.
I also love how y'all got excited when the lyrics mentioned Tulsa and OKC. Y'all are my favorite Okies on YT. I'm from Texas, but I spend a fair amount of time in Oklahoma, and it feels like a second home to me.
And Huey looks like your dad's bowling buddy.
Most underrated band of the 80s.
All members of Huey Lewis and the News are in we are the world.
I really love your journey as 70 Year Old former Rock and Roller playing BASS - Lead and Vocals in the 1960's seeing young folk discover what is the essence of Rock n Roll and Soul is a delight for me and brings back some of those Old Feelings and experiences I had playing it in the Clubs back in the day . Greta Work keep it up
