Chai and Tea come from Chinese words Cha and Te. So Indians don't get to have a say in this. Chai tea is good term, because the drink is called Chai/Shoy/Cha in many other countries and languages.
@@gouravtaparia I am saying Indians get wound up unnecessarily for a harmless word as Chai Tea. Which really is a good way to distinguish between traditional Chinese Tea and Indian Tea. Indians pretend that Tea is called Chai everywhere in India. But in Tamil Nadu it is called Tenir, which comes from the Chinese word for Tea "Te". Chai also comes from Chinese word Cha. So it is good that it is called Chai Tea, specifically Indian Chai Tea, because we wouldn't be leaving out Tamils.
The thing with Indian food is, it changes from district to district let alone state to state. So distributing Indian food to North and South is just not enough one has to go state by state at least.

The most basic Indian food which is vegetables made with common Indian spices are never a point of discussion. The food that people talk about is the one we Indians don't make at home. We only eat them in restaurants. In Bihar, we eat fresh vegies cooked with very common Indian spices, and that tastes amazing. It's super healthy and very easy to cook. Roti Sabzi is the real food of India that all North Indians eat daily.
Do try our Northeast Indian food . Our food is completely different from the rest of India . Dishes like pork with bamboo shoot, fermented fish , duck etc.
I am a South Indian in specific Tamilan with origin from kanyakumari for breakfast we prepare the following in our home usually in daily cycle : majority of dishes are made with rice as main ingredient or variety of cereals and pulses but not wheat, barley or oats. Generaly most of the dishes are paired with sambar or pudina (mint) chutney or tomato chutney or kara chatney (main ingredient is red chillies), or onion chutney or peanut chutney or coconut chutney or corriander (cilantro) chutney or curry leave chutney or have idly podi whichis usuallymixed with ghee or gingerly oil or coconut oil or vegetable oil ( powder made up of variety of lentils, dried red chillies, powdered curry leaves, garlic powder, salt). 1. Idly - kind of steamed rice cake 2. Dosa - ( according to the batter and toppings it has more than 80 varieties but prominently 10 varieties are used - plain dosa, paper roast, kal dosa, rava dosa, multigrain dosa, onion dosa, egg dosa, ragi dosa, kelviragu dosa, kambu dosa) 3. Pongal - boiled (rice & lentils) 4. Uthapam - just like a thick pan cake (just like dosa has lot of varaities.) 5. Appam - kind of baked (just like dosa has lot of varaities) 6. Puttu - steamed food (can made with any kind of grains but prominently using rice. It is not served with chutney but with papadam, green gram, chick pea curry or banana.) 7. Upma - boiled (made of rava generally) 8. Idiappam - steamed (made of rice, looks a littlelike rice noodles due to texture) 9. Kichdi - boiled (mix of rava, vegies ond spices) 10. Adai - form of pan cake but made with half grinded batter. 11. Puri kilangu - fried wheat bread 12. Vadai - fried (Medu vadai, kerra vadai, parupu vadai, vazha poo vadai) 13. Bonda - fried (rice and lentils bonda, onion bonda, potato bonda) 14. Paniyaram - kind of baked (paniyarams can be made plain, spiced or sweet) 15. Parrota and kothu parotta are generally not ate in breakfast but for dinner 16. Parrota - made of maida and texture comes in layers generally served with salna( stew) or any meat curry(chicken, mutton or any other) 17. Kothu parrota - parrota in made in pieces and spiced up. 18. Chilly parrota - just like kothu parrota Other than the regularly made ones: 19. Uppu urundai - steamed ( not a very prominent breakfast in all parts of the state) 20. Aval - cannot be specified since ot can be consumed in various forms 21. Neer dosai - made with watery batter 22. Vivikam - sweeted idlies These are only which came to my mind and few more would have been left. 23. Kollukatai - similar to momos and dumblings (but also comes with sweet version)

Chai and Tea come from Chinese words Cha and Te. So Indians don't get to have a say in this. Chai tea is good term, because the drink is called Chai/Shoy/Cha in many other countries and languages.
@@prateek752 wtf are you talking lol.
ahahahha
Prateek P Indian restaurant. Not Chinese. So yes, only chai 🤡

There is huge difference in Vadapav and wada sambar.
That's not idli nugget it's fried idli one of South's fav breakfast dish ! Tastes best when made from a day old idli
The thing with Indian food is, it changes from district to district let alone state to state. So distributing Indian food to North and South is just not enough one has to go state by state at least.
I love the conversations you guys had throughout the video. Very insightful!
It's great to see they addressed the privilege on Indians who made it to america. Great job
This one is a tough choice! My family is from the North, but I love me some dosas from the South! Great video, once again, love the information about the culture!
#Surita_Mahashi That's a healthy comment 🙂
U also tell to others don't try controversial comment otherwise there will be huge dispute
Love the fact that you show diff diversity in your videos! Even more proud because you showcased how NYC is such a diverse melting pot. I don't think anywhere else has such diversity as NYC.
I have been waiting for this episode for AGES! please do more indian food episodes whenever possible
This was a great video, liked it so much I linked it for my geography class. Nice work, gentlemen!
South Indian culture and South Indian foods always unique
1:14 That's a historical Boundary separating South from North by Narmada river. It is mentioned in Bal-Ramayna.
What an awesome, entertaining, and especially educational episode. I would like to see more videos about the food from different regions in India. India is so big with many different cultures and foods.
I really appreciate how well spoken they were
Vivek you won my heart yo!!!
This was such an awesome, jam packed and definitely insightful video... jazz and vivek offered a great dynamic to the north vs south theme 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Indian food is always delicious 😋 whether South or North We love all cultures food 😋😋😋😋
I’m a week late, but I’m SO excited for this video as a South Indian American!
When I realize they never had Andhra Andhra cuisine and still say the food is spicy.
Great video guys. I'm from Durban, South Africa which has one of the highest Indian populations outside of India. We even have special Indian dishes you can only find there. Loved the video. My fav South Indian dish in the vid are dosa's and samoosa's.
Thats lovely. Dosa is authentic south Indian,I would identify samosa as a north Indian dish though.
Durban is full of Tamil South Africans
The word Wala is used in Mumbai in Marathi language. It is a masculine verb. The chai wala means man who serves tea. Another example is ice cream wala, which means server of ice cream. BTW you guys are awesome. Love your videos.
big respect to the owner for telling customers 'Well, you have come to an Indian restaurant, so you have to expect some spice' THANK YOU! So many Indian restaurants that start out authentic end up a bland mess after a year because people keep nagging and go to have a foreign cuisine but then complain it's not the spice level they're used to. You want to experience something new, embrace it!
Vada is different from Vada pav 😂
Nice y'all! We have a lot of South Indian food here in the Bay Area (South Bay mostly) - def a whole different world of flavors, dude. I know other commenters have pointed it out, but I've also heard that Toronto has a huge amount of South Indian & Sri Lankan food :)
Indian restaurants have been popping up around the GTA(Greater Toronto Area). Hopefully, they can survive with all the lockdowns.
The Sri Lankan food you're talking about is mostly Srilankan Tamil which is quite similar to food from Tamil Nadu in India.
There is even some Goan/Mangalorean (Grew up eating this) food but it's mostly in Mississauga.
Padupaavi pasanga! Eating Dosa with cutlery is sacrilege.
Eat with your hands. It brings more emotional experience with your food.
Pakkavae mudila
Andha south indian kuda a solla matraan
This is the video I was waiting for. Thanks for making this video. Love from Kolkata (east india).❣❣
WOOT loved jazz. He vibes with you guys rly well
Yes! I already favorited this video before watching it. So happy we’re eating Indian food in NYC! :)
16:07 ??? Andrew, what? You don’t know if food falling on the table is more Indian style? It’s not. Don’t be rude. Our food is flavorful, not dirty.
🙏🏽 thank you so much. I’ve been waiting for someone with a following to represent South India. Sometimes i feel so irrelevant. I’m happy North India is represented since we’re all one but ppl just don’t know anything abt south india.
Ramya looks very knowledgeable person and i wish for her success in life.
North mean not only= punjab . In North india have many state they have own teast of food. I m from uttar pradesh our state mainly known as for sweet. I love all kind of vegetarian food. I feel proud on southern india guy. He known our culture and beautifully describe. I love this guy
Can't imagine life.can't imagine world without india.India is rainbow itself.
3 iditos was a big hit movie a lot of my chinese friends even saw it.

There ar so many south indian restaraunts in nyc..check out Murray hill Indian street, you will find Saravana Bhavan, Anjappar, Deccan spice, Chennai garden, pongal.....some of these restaurants are straight from india having branches in usa.... this is not the only south indian restrnt in NYC!!!!
North is different, south is different and all is unique in its own way.
West side of India is different too.
Northeast part of India is way different again with very natural spices in it.
India is unique
Omg I love them soooo much I feel like the North Indian guy was super into it especially
Pune is not even south India 😂
Pune isn't North either...
Pune is west India
@@santoshnarayana7879 it comes under south India geographically.. Our scriptures mentions Narmada river as Boundary between Aryavarta and Dakshinpatha
Pune is in Maharashtra guys.. it's literally in middle
@Kalari Ashan you have never seen indian map haven't you? Pune is above hyderabad, I mean miles above..
Vivek reminds me of JC Chasez with the way he talks and sounds!!
It’s recommended to me and I’m Indian as well
Nice coincidence
Love it! Indian cuisine is on the rise in Dallas Fort Worth Texas. Love it! 06/02/2023
where are my telugu homies ?? 🔥😎
yooo mama
The most basic Indian food which is vegetables made with common Indian spices are never a point of discussion. The food that people talk about is the one we Indians don't make at home. We only eat them in restaurants. In Bihar, we eat fresh vegies cooked with very common Indian spices, and that tastes amazing. It's super healthy and very easy to cook. Roti Sabzi is the real food of India that all North Indians eat daily.
Awesome intro to the food
Wow side note, never knew us Cantonese in Canada were "elite" 😎
Love the content and the interaction
I love Indian food especially South
Keep up the awesome work love from 🇮🇪💚🍀😘

One of the best types of asian food
Do try our Northeast Indian food . Our food is completely different from the rest of India . Dishes like pork with bamboo shoot, fermented fish , duck etc.
Roti Prata, Indian Rojak, Vada and Dosa are my favorites.
1. Idly - kind of steamed rice cake
2. Dosa - ( according to the batter and toppings it has more than 80 varieties but prominently 10 varieties are used - plain dosa, paper roast, kal dosa, rava dosa, multigrain dosa, onion dosa, egg dosa, ragi dosa, kelviragu dosa, kambu dosa)
3. Pongal - boiled (rice & lentils)
4. Uthapam - just like a thick pan cake (just like dosa has lot of varaities.)
5. Appam - kind of baked (just like dosa has lot of varaities)
6. Puttu - steamed food (can made with any kind of grains but prominently using rice. It is not served with chutney but with papadam, green gram, chick pea curry or banana.)
7. Upma - boiled (made of rava generally)
8. Idiappam - steamed (made of rice, looks a littlelike rice noodles due to texture)
9. Kichdi - boiled (mix of rava, vegies ond spices)
10. Adai - form of pan cake but made with half grinded batter.
11. Puri kilangu - fried wheat bread
12. Vadai - fried (Medu vadai, kerra vadai, parupu vadai, vazha poo vadai)
13. Bonda - fried (rice and lentils bonda, onion bonda, potato bonda)
14. Paniyaram - kind of baked (paniyarams can be made plain, spiced or sweet)
15. Parrota and kothu parotta are generally not ate in breakfast but for dinner
16. Parrota - made of maida and texture comes in layers generally served with salna( stew) or any meat curry(chicken, mutton or any other)
17. Kothu parrota - parrota in made in pieces and spiced up.
18. Chilly parrota - just like kothu parrota
Other than the regularly made ones:
19. Uppu urundai - steamed ( not a very prominent breakfast in all parts of the state)
20. Aval - cannot be specified since ot can be consumed in various forms
21. Neer dosai - made with watery batter
22. Vivikam - sweeted idlies
These are only which came to my mind and few more would have been left.
23. Kollukatai - similar to momos and dumblings (but also comes with sweet version)
Tami'zha'n, Ko'zhu'kattai, my advice to Tamilians, please clean your tongue daily using a tongue cleaner. Then you will be able to pronounce 'zha'
@@Shrike6699 i pity for the people who can't pronounce Tamil in real time and the people who can't understand the difference between "ண, ன, ந" "ர, ற" and i really don't know how people confuse "ழ, ள" with "ல".
Not for the ones who complain for typing the pronunciation of "zha" "la" in English, actually Tanglish.
The owner was wearing ANUSHKA SHARMA'S dress....iykwim 😛😝😉
Wtf does that mean
1:14 North India doesn't include Western India, Eastern India and North Eastern India. Food is completely different in each region. Especially North Eastern region where the cuisine matches more with South East Asian cuisine rather than what is considered Indian cuisine.
Being an Indian, loved it.
There is East and West in India too
They have a different food culture than their north and south counterpart.
Check them out.

Why didnt vivek eat any food?
He said he has a lot of allergies
He has acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
I thought the same lol

Indian food is my favorite I wish there was more options where I am at
Nice restaurants, great conversations!
I passed those two restaurants so many times. Now I’m definitely going to place an order for takeout.
We have lot of other south Indian dishes other than dose and idly. This list is only from karnataka- Shavige bath, akki rotti, ragi rotti, uppit or upma or kharabath, kesari bath, sambar, majjige huli, tambuli, Mangalore bajji, kolbade, maddur vade, churmuri, mysore pak, puliyogare, onion chitranna. Please do try these dishes as well.
Hi guys! Indian food looks so damn delicious! Great video as always. Stay safe! xoxo
Looks like Nepalese food is more similar to South Indian food because of lentil, pulau, puri, paani puri, fish curry and dosa but our dosa isn’t called dosha it’s very similar to Chattamari.
Pulau and pani puri arent even South Indian. Only dosa, vada, idli, Sambar and fish curry were south idnian
I am a Proud Indian who loves both North and South Indians dishes 😋😋😋
I am south indian. but I like both north indian and south indian culture.
