  • I am so excited to share this video with you because the research is clear. When you are trying to help your TMJ dysfunction (TMD), self-care WITH postural training is more effective for correction and symptom relief than TMJ self-care by itself.
    -Wright et al. (2000)
    “A combination of exercise and manual therapy, correction of body posture, and relaxation techniques significantly alleviates jaw pain, restricted movement, and impairment.” -Nikolakis et al. (2001) state,
    The combined method of rehab is needed because this posture/TMJ connection can present with symptoms like weakness in your deep cervical neck flexor muscles, jaw “popping”, jaw “clicking”, Forward Head Posture (FHP), trigger points in your trapezius and levator scapula muscles, orofacial pain, decreased ability to fully open your mouth, suboccipital tightness, ear pain, headaches and more.
    Posture plays a crucial role in managing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, as it directly affects the alignment and function of the jaw. Proper posture helps maintain optimal alignment of the head, neck, and spine, which in turn reduces strain on the TMJ. When the head is held in a neutral position, with the ears aligned over the shoulders and the chin parallel to the ground, the muscles surrounding the jaw are better able to relax and function without undue stress. Conversely, poor posture, such as slouching or jutting the head forward, can lead to misalignment of the jaw and increased tension in the muscles responsible for jaw movement, exacerbating TMJ symptoms.
    Furthermore, maintaining good posture throughout daily activities can alleviate pressure on the TMJ joint itself. For instance, sitting with proper spinal alignment while working at a desk or standing with even weight distribution can prevent unnecessary strain on the jaw joint. By minimizing stress on the TMJ, individuals with TMJ disorder may experience reduced pain, stiffness, and discomfort associated with the condition. Incorporating ergonomic principles into daily activities, such as adjusting the height of a computer monitor or using a supportive chair, can further promote optimal posture and alleviate TMJ symptoms.
    In addition to promoting physical alignment, mindful posture can also encourage relaxation and reduce overall tension in the body, including the muscles of the jaw. Practicing techniques such as deep breathing, gentle stretching, and mindfulness meditation can help individuals become more aware of their posture and release muscular tension that may contribute to TMJ discomfort. By cultivating a relaxed and balanced posture, individuals can support the health and function of the TMJ, ultimately reducing the frequency and severity of TMJ symptoms.

    This is where this TMJ 5 video comes in. You are going to go through strong posture exercises that are core focused and strong posture exercises that address forward head posture. For these, it is best if you have a wall to lean against. Then we will do some of my favorite stretching and manual therapy movements for your muscles of mastication like your temporalis and masseter muscles. Finally, as the research indicates, we will relax and focus on gratitude.
    Pair this with one of my other TMJ videos per day and, if you still need more help, book a telehealth or in-person appointment through my website by clicking “book online”

    Bulk of people can't afford high class medical help for neurological and injury issues,and are left to their own devices with no expertise as disadvantaged lot. These videos can help to relieve the related conditions that any individual can have.....so 'thank you' for this great help.

    I am so thankful for your TMJ and ETD videos! I’ve spent thousands on physical therapy and cervical adjustments over the years, and nothing has helped me like your videos. In the course of a couple of weeks, my ear fullness has almost disappeared, my posture is better, and my jaw is much more relaxed. I am happy and the jaw pain and facial numbness I’ve been experiencing for over a year is almost gone. Thank you Dr. Adam!!!

      I am grateful for your comment, it gives me so much courage to go forward with Dr. Fields' exercises. I am experiencing the same symptoms for roughly 3 months now, but thankfully for the past couple of weeks I found out about the exercises and I'm getting better everyday! ; ) I hope you are through with your symptoms and wishing you big blessings. Again thank you Dr. Fields and all the best in the world.

      100% same for me I have suffered from jaw clenching and TMJD for over a decade. Spent thousands on acupuncture, dental, chiropractic and massage. Two months ago I had a severe flare up causing face pain and even dizziness which completely inhibited my daily routine. What a timely gift to find Dr Fields videos. I strive to do one or two each day most days. My results are amazing when I am consistent I notice that my jaw is not locking up throughout the day the face pain and dizziness are gone. I’m more open in my body overall. 🙏🙏🙏 so grateful.

    Stretching the neck under the chin has worked wonders for me. I lie on my back across the bed with my head and arms flopped over the side. You have to have good core strength to get back up but I feel ready for anything after doing it and my TMJ pain is definitely subsiding.

    Dr. Adam, I can't thank you enough for sharing these TMJ exercises with us. You seem to know exactly how to help what's wrong with my jaw when I can't find the right way to explain it to doctors and chiropractors. I want you to know I genuinely mean it when I say your videos are the ONLY thing that has helped me, even when I've been in to see professionals face to face. These exercises bring me immediate relief, it's not 100% but I would honestly say at least 50% improvement. I've been suffering from TMJD for a long time with it steadily getting worse, and I could cry doing these.

    I'm so glad to have found your video! I have done so much good for my tmj over the years with yoga. What a huge improvement in my posture and jaw mobility! When I recommend this path to people with tmj difficulties, however, they often don't want to try it. I think it's intimidating? Or otherwise an uninviting exercise path.
    Your video is just super accessible! And I'm so so happy that you have a whole-body approach! I will definitely be sending people your way, and returning to this video myself.

    Thanks doc for the new content focused on headache/TMJ that focuses around the neck and facial muscles. It’s giving my somatic tinnitus/dizziness intermittent relief.
    By far the most effective exercise you’ve shown me is the occipital lifts. The closest I can get to silence after doing some of those. 👍🏼

    Excellent video but I'm having an issue with the first excercise: when I push my head back against the wall, it forces my jaw to close and grind my teeth, I can't avoid this no matter how much I tuck my chin or actively try to keep my jaw open. Is this normal? Any way to avoid this?
    Other than that, this is pure gold. I've been following your videos for a while and they helped me so much that I'm lost for words, it really changed my life for the better. • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  2 роки тому

      Hi Fallon, Two 300cc breast implants weight less than a pound and a half. If you already have them in and there is no other problem with them, I believe you can get yourself in the shape to handle them. If one is out of shape neuromuscular and biomechanically, they can be a problem. I really like your question and will be doing a Q&A video on it. Thank you!

  • @joez5610

    Thank you! Is there any muscles related to TMJ and also ETD? I believe my jaw and limited mobility on the right side (TMJ) has caused some ETD in the right ear. Alot of ear popping on the right side. Is there any muscles related with this? Maybe the medial pterygoid gland and palpations inside the mouth could help?
    Update: Applying deep pressure towards the medial pterygoid, right after whenever I would open my jaw/yawn the clicking/popping definitely subsided! Holy moly, hopefully this all comes together and the clicking/noise sensitivity goes away. Gonna keep on going back to your videos and improving posture while also working on temporalis and other muscles involved.
    How often should I palpate inside the mouth?

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  2 роки тому

      You're on it! I would do 2 videos/day. If you are really sensitive on the pterygoids, hold for 20-40 seconds 2x and do it 3x/day but with a relaxed face. I like how thoroughly you are engaged.

    Thanks for another great video Dr Adam. I have question that I hope you might be able to answer. I’ve had issues swallowing (a dysphagia) of sorts on and off for almost 1.5 years now. I’ve gotten checked out for anything in my nose or throat but it’s all negative. However, my ears feel constantly clogged (as if I was on an airplane kind of thing) and my head feels heavy/pressured. I do suffer from a lot of allergies and notice the swallowing gets better when I drink allergy meds, but doctors say it’s not that and could be tmj. Can tmj cause poor hearing AND swallowing problems? I really am desperate for answers at this point.

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  2 роки тому +3

      Oh yes it can. Trigger points can form in your throat with TMD, mouth breathing can cause your throat to dry out, the allergies can be spawned by a leaky gut and even your neck can contribute. Have you done my swallowing and singing videos? Throat Openers
      V1 ua-cam.com/video/m9_kHsF1QkM/v-deo.html
      V2 ua-cam.com/video/5xg4HrCzL1g/v-deo.html
      Try them for a while and, if you need more help, go to my website and sign up for a telehealth call so we can team up on this. Dysphagia has a brutal stress component. I'm sure this is tweaking with your mind but you have to overcome it with deep relaxation and muscle work. Take care and don't give up!

    • @marcusrichards6511
      @marcusrichards6511 2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for raising this question, The Mediumalist and for answering Dr. Fields, I also have the ear feeling clogged quite regularly and it's painful (due to the tension/pressure) which extends to my throat, it's however just on the left side. Massaging the ear and around the ear can get incredibly painful. I assume it's TMD since there is nothing wrong in either the ear or my mouth. I don't have hearing or swallowing issues either so perhaps I have less of the throat symptoms and more the ear symptoms. Deep relaxation and muscle work sound like the way to go, thank you for this helpful content!

    • @MassielMancebo
      @MassielMancebo 2 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much for answering. I’ve done your ear dysfunction videos and they help a bit with the clogging, but it seems to return after a while. I will try the singing and throat videos. I’m an extremely positive person but dealing with all this has caused me a lot anxiety and sad thoughts, because it’s so difficult to eat a meal with family/friends relaxed and not worrying that it might be your last. Thank you for the info about the tele health it’s nice to know help is available. I will try these things and if not, I will make an appointment. Have a wonderful day.
