    Stellar video Mark! This one had it all. Scenery, camp cooking, nice review on some great kit. Always nice to see something from you in my you tube feed! Thanks for sharing Mark. Take care of cold brother! Remember, it's not the cough that carries you off, it's the coffin they carry you off in! Thanks again,

    I have just ordered the Softie elite 4 because I am a very cold sleeper, I have been using a higear ridgeline convertible for the last 5 years which is a 3 season bag with fleece liner when colder weather or a cotton liner in the summer and what sold me was the fact it could be turned back for us vertically challenged people. I have high hopes for the snugpak and by the looks of it this bag will serve me well and last me the rest of my camping life.
    Wish you all the best and thank you for your review.

      Hi Emma, I hope you are keeping well. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I have been very happy with the Elite range of bags. I have a smaller 2 season bag, but I often take the warmer bag and just unzip it if it is too warm. I would rather be too warm than cold. I agree, I like how the bag can be clipped back to make it shorter. I first thought the clips were to hang the bag up to air it out etc, so it was a nice surprise to realise what they were really there for. Thanks again, have a great week, all the best, Mark 😀🌲🔥.

    I bought this bag recently and am extremely pleased with it. The many features of it are fantastic - for them price. I watched and read many reviews; and yours is easily one of the best, most useful, and most comprehensive.
    Fantastic, too, to read about your charity work etc.
    All the best my man
    Best wishes

    Thank you for another good review Mark. Much appreciated. I agree with you entirely that you need to turn 'with' the bag, not 'in' the bag. When I first used a mummy bag many years ago, I found it was down to a change of mindset and actually practicing the technique over time. I found it became second nature when I stuck with it! Thanks again.

      Hi Octopus9611, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) It was the time old problem when trying to convert people from square shaped bags to mummy shaped. There was a time when mainly mummy bags were being sold and the older customers didn't seem to like the concept. But after a couple of uses like you say, they soon started to come around. Plus I find them warmer than a square bag as there s less space to warm up. Thanks again for taking the time :) Have a great week, all the best, Mark :)

    nice to see you out again Mark and well done as you did sound slightly under the weather. Thanks for the review, I was looking for a light, warm bag for winter hiking/camping. I did consider the elite 3, although a little on the heavy side it looked great in all other departments, I was very tempted! However I went for the slightly more expensive Rab accent 700 which has been excellent.
    Thanks again Mark

      Hi David, I hope you have been keeping well. The cold is going now thanks :) I'm just preparing myself for another lol. I think you did the right thing David. RAB in my opinion make some of the best outdoor gear there is. Especially their down gear. I have always like their gear. I have had a couple of bags and jackets in the past and they have always been excellent quality and you know how well they will perform. A little pricey, but well worth the money in the long run. Thanks for taking the time David :) It is always great to hear from you, all the best, Mark :)

    Good comprehensive review
    I have the Elite 2 which is lighter and smaller
    I am very pleased with the performance and temp ratings
    I strongly recommend it
    I use the Snugpac Paratex liner, which only weighs an extra 200g
    Add significant warmth and keeps the bag clean which keeps it effective

    Great review Mark, I really like Snugpak sleeping bags alot, I used to use the Special Forces 2 bag in the Army. I use there Travelpak 2 for the warmer months. I was looking at the elite 4 for the colder months, but I ended up investing in the Snugpak Softie Expansion 4, it's supposed to be good down to -10. I like how light and how small they compress but still keep great warmth. I hope you're well mate, take care.

    Haha nice one Mark, I was thinking exactly the same thing about a handle on the bag as you mentioned it 🙂. Can't understand why they've missed tgat one out. I think they are a great bag. I've had no issues all year round with mine. Never had to use the baffle system and find them very comfy. Sometimes find the zip gets stuck on the material which can be a pain but I rate them for the money 👍. Can't beat some egg n bacon n a brew in the morning 🙂. Cheers Mark, have a top week 👍

      Hi Rick, I hope you are keeping well mate and things are going well :) Yeah I know what you mean about the handle. It's sometimes the smaller details that can make some good or a pain in the ass lol. As bags go, they are great for the money. I have an elite 2 for the warmer weather. That is a pain for getting snagged up lol. According to Snugpak they started sewing a webbing strip behind the zip to stop the fabric snagging, but it still has a tendency to do it ;( Yeah thought I would treat myself to a mini fry up. I was hoping the bacon would fight my cold off lol. Thanks for taking the time Rick, have a great week mate, all the best, Mark :)

    Thanks for the review Mark, I was always hesitant with Snugpak due to MCQ's video where he was quite dissapointed with one model he bought, he was saying it was rated down to I think -10, it wasn't near that temp and he said he was considerably cold all night. But, as we were due to go on a family trip and were short on one decent bag I went for one, and the trip was unfortunately cancelled, but all is good at least we have a spare and I can also use it when I get tired of lugging the Army Arctic bag around! haha
    Cool buddy, catch you soon

    • @markbailey2981
      @markbailey2981  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Chris, I hope you are keeping well mate and the weather has eased a bit. I have just got back in and the wind and rain was starting to pick up again. For the money the sungpak elite range are a decent bag. I don't tend to take much notice of the low temp on a bag and look more at the comfort rating. I doubt I could cope to -10 in it either, but adding a liner would help out in lower temps. I agree, If I was looking for a cold weather bag, then it would something like a RAB down filled sleeping bag. But then the price jumps from £90 to £300. But for most UK weather the snugpak bags have worked great for me. I have an elite 2 that I use in the summer. I hope you find it works out OK for you Chris.... Like you say, you have your Artic bag for cold weather and the snugpak for all other times. Roll on spring ay :) Have a great weekend Chris, all the best, Mark :)

Saying that, you can't beat the winter bag that you have. I know a few people that use the ex military issue arctic bags and they swear by them. when looking for a bag Snugpak was an option but I was really doing my research then came across an MCQ video where he was quite dissapointed with one he had, he said he was quite cold and the bag definitely was not as warm as advertised, this made me just go for the Brit Army Arctic bag for the cold months.
    I was out last tuesday night, under a basha and combining the bag with the Brit army bivvy for the extra layer, with me its the nose that suffers! and sometimes in the knee caps
    cheers buddy

      Hi Sudarshan, many thanks for watching :) I find the elite 3 is a decent bag for cooler temps, but if you feel the cold then the elite 4 goes down to around -10. For temps down to 0 then the elite 3 will be ideal, plus it is a little smaller when packed.

    • @markbailey2981
      @markbailey2981  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Mick, I hope you are keeping well mate. The elite 3 does fit in the bottom of the savotta pack. I do have to compress it down so it fits, but once its done it drops in nicely. Other wise you could put it in a dry bag and fasten it on the underneath of the pack if it is taking up too much space. They have both been a good buy and well worth the money. As for a bivi bag it depends on how much money you want to spend. I have used a couple of RAB and Terra Nova bivi bags over the years, but the Dutch army bivi bags seem to be popular. Military Mart is a good place to look for them. I hope this helps, all the best, Mark :)

    Hi Mark, how does it compare thermally to the British army arctic bag?

    • @markbailey2981
      @markbailey2981  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Alan, I hope you have been keeping well mate :) If you were looking for something to go down low in it's temperature rating, then the British Army arctic bag would be the best option. They are more bulky than the Snugpak, plus you usually get a choice of hollow fill or down. But for the type of use I need a bag for, then the Snugpak bags do me. I would also imaging that the issue sleeping bags are more robust. If you like the look the of the arctic bags, snugpak make a special forces sleeping bag that is similar. I was just talking to a guy who said he used the special forces bags during his time in the army. Thanks for taking the time Alan, have a great week, all the best, Mark :)

    Where did you buy your bag from ?
    I found a couple of suppliers online, but both have several poor reviews, so if anything goes wrong with the bag, maybe there would be difficulties.

      Hi saxoncrow, I last used the bag a couple of months ago. I find it ideal for most of the year, but on hot nights I tend to sleep on top of the bag. Another great video Mark. This Sleeping bag would be fine for mt here in North Carolina for most of the year, but even here, I've seen it get down to 10 degrees F. I also have a hard time with cold and love the heat. Some say I'm part reptile, hehe. I've been known to comfortably lay in the sun when the mercury reached 107 degree F. Maybe there is something to what some say about me mate. For that I'm using a 0 degree F. sleeping bag. with an inflatable mat when it gets cold. I guess I'd probably opt for the Elite 5. The only level 4 I'm finding on Amazon is the Tactical series which costs over twice as much, so the Elite 5 would be my choice.
    If you don't like the compression sack this one may work for you. www.amazon.com/M-Tac-Nylon-Sleeping-Compression-Sack/dp/B07CQ4HWBC/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=M-Tac+Nylon+Military+Compression+Bag&qid=1575296774&sr=8-3 Check the dimensions first though to make sure it will work for your Snugpak. I have one of these and it's extremely tough. As far as I can tell it would easily meet military standards. It's constructed of what appears to be some kind of Cordura fabric, not thin rip stop nylon.
    Once again, I really enjoyed your video brother. You have a blessed day.
