      They're much smaller and had less structural problems than us. We shouldn't compare to small countries, more to bigger ones like Germany, France, Ukraine. Poland after commmies rule/ being part of russkij mir was a real ruin in 1989, a bankrupt, fallen country. We had to start from the very beginning and we did a great job. Of course there is still a lot to do and we should focus on developing and moving forward.

And that your economy has an impressively good growth rate, like PL used to have before. Yes, the most important thing is you're developing and using your chance for good life in prosperity. Poland also has to repair many things after last 8 years of populists rule, we have a lot of catching up to do too:) the job is not finished yet:) But eventually we'll all get there:) The most important thing is not to give up and use the best opportunity in history that ever existed..

    Good documentary. Includes many perspectives from different parts of CEE. But you didn't go into details. Poland developed greatly in last 35 years (biggest economy in CEE, still growing) since it kicked out communism. And in 1989 it was a real economic ruin. Especially last 20 years of EU Membership had very positive impact on country and actually we're in a middle of a true Revolution/ Generational change in PL, where the whole new gen grew up already in EU an this generation is a gen of Europeans. Also new generations have totally diff values and beliefs, is more liberal, open, well-educated, well-travelled, knows foreign languages etc This new generations voted out populists in October 2023. Another interesting factor is the fastest in the world ssecularisation/ laicisation/ leaving the religion (only ca 20% of young people identify themselves as practicing catholics/ are going to church).
    Anyways congrats to all 2004 EU Members. I'm grateful that we chose wisely and did everything to join EU.

Eastern European countries have been taken over by Western shops, banks, insurance companies, and numerous products from Germany, the Netherlands and France. The profits for Western companies are gigantic. And here they only talk about how much Estonia and Poland received from the EU. Manipulation.

    I understand why hardcoded subtitles are used, but it does make the documentary less accessible to non-French/German/English speakers.
    UA-cam's auto-generated subtitles are far from perfect, and also lay over the in-built text.
    Is it possible, and financially viable, to create subtitles in other European languages and upload them to UA-cam with access via the CC button?

      I say this because I'm a British-German citizen living in Spain and am very aware of linguistic isolation in various national communities where English isn't understood beyond B1 level.
      I wish there were an accessible EU funding infrastructure for pan-European subtitles. Including smaller-population languages such as Basque, Breton, Catalan, Welsh, Irish, (does Saxon count?).
      I'm sure there are many regional languages I'm unaware of for whom the state language and local language are far more accessible than English.

We also know that temporary industrial and rural workers recruited in the former Soviet republics receive low wages and are often exploited and unpaid by local agencies partnering with German, Italian, French and Spanish businesspeople. Women from the new European countries are exported to work as prostitutes in Germany, France, Holland, etc. Not to mention the growth of fascism, Nazism and racism in rich EU countries. If Western Europea is poorer it is not because Eastern Europe. Maybe they simply did not like working as hard as Eastern Europeans or were not able to take adventage of EU enlargement. It is not a cost only. It is a chance for Western Europe as well.

      XD of course not. Before the enlargement e.g. Germany was in recession and after, its economy improved as well as economies of those 10 countries. It was profitable for both sides.

      @adrianstere Місяць тому

      It’s quite in the other way! Western Europe (well, in reality when I mean Western Europe I refer to the huge corporations, politicians and elite) has benefited greatly from the enlargement of the EU. They forced the ex. Communist countries to close and sell of their factories and companies for pennies in order to enter EU. Then they sell their shorty products (more Germoney and France) into there. Their companies are also in charge of literally every EU fund that is accessed by those countries. On top of that they fund bunch of NGOs in order to oppose the development of big infrastructure projects in those areas in order to keep them poor enough so they can still dump their products there.

    • @aga-ja6855
      @aga-ja6855 Місяць тому

      @@adrianstere XD those commie factories were not profitable, technologically backward sh*t so no loss there. Also nb had knowledge and funds in those countries to restructuring them. You're just repeating myths eagerly supported by ruskies propaganda about "great USSR and its colonies". I'm from Poland and I tell it's a bullsh8t and EU together with NATO was the best thing that happened to Poland in its 1000 years of history. We were never so rich and safe and we never had such prspects for development, both personal and as a country (to rule EU together with Germany and France as Weimar Triangle, it's already happening:)).That's all.

    • @adrianstere
      @adrianstere Місяць тому +1

      @@aga-ja6855Maybe in your country they didn’t been profitable. Which I highly doubt when the only reason given are always from the western side. Every industry need re-technologies all the time if you didn’t know that. Even the western ones are upgraded all the time. Because technology evolves. Even 10-15 years now and it can be considered “outdated. Communism can be generally blamed fairly for many things but evolution of technology can’t be one of them. But what are you exactly producing now in Poland?! 😂
      Because your country is full of Auchan, Carrefour, Lidl, Kaufland etc. Not even Zabka or Biedronka is Polish anymore. The only benefits vs Eastern neighbors your country had is the upgraded infrastructure (highways and railways to some extent) but only because Germoney need to export fast their good further to Europe. But when it comes to bigger infrastructure projects even Poland is denied evolution. Ex. the airport hub that Poland is trying to build for years and is blocked by German interest as “not feasible”, not good enough, waste of money etc. in reality that project will shift all the money from Germoney to Poland and will establish even more influence from Poland. Also most the EU funds in Poland have been used again by western corporations in infrastructure projects (“big surprise” since EU previously make sure the local polish companies who could create competition to the westerners are dismantled under different pretexts.)
      I won’t even start to comment on NATO. But things aside, Poland is also just a colony of EU/US interest just as most of central Eastern Europe from EU (exception for moment being Hungary) and not a fully independent country. And if that sits ok with you, then never mind. If changing masters (from Soviet Russia influence and Warsaw pact states) to another ones in form of US/EU is maximum you can think of then is no discussion longer.
