So basically if people elect a government that doesn't fit the narrative “the democracy is in danger”… isn't that the point of democracy, that people choose what they want (even if it means a change of system)?
The point of democracy is that they CONTINUE to be able to have power. Democracy also requires rule of law, institutions thereof, and rights for minorities. Democracy still has to color withing the lines or else it's not democracy anymore.
Interest is entirely subjective. Atrocities against mankind are not. Through great sacrifices and efforts, international standards have been established to determine what abuses to humanity are considered unacceptable. The western "democracies" presented as protagonists at risk here, have been the prime violators of said standards, and they are now failing to control the narrative to claim otherwise. Absolutely
Democracy is also when ppl do not choose "your vision of democracy"! !!
'Is Democracy going to survive 2024?'. Our new - also amateur - woman journalist just said: Probably not if we keep watching on our phones how it is going.
"This election is the most important" "This election will change everything" Literally what everyone says during every election, hard to believe anything will change
In Germany you have to pay for the state owned media
You mean tax money? Don't all national broadcaster get tax money?
Isn't that the case everywhere? We don't have state media, only national / public media, but we pay for them with taxes, how else?
We don't pay for the state owned media in India.
@@MrPrince750 Who finances them then?
18,36 Euro per apartment per month. So if you live alone or 5 people in one apartment/house, you have to pay 18,36 Euros per month.
A democracy is a marketplace of idea's.
It doesn't get weaker, if once side is unable to sell its ideas to the electorate.
Or even explain those ideas in language that is understandable to the voters.
Interfering with a free and fair marketplace is exactly what weakens democracy. Voter suppression, insurrection, intimidation, foreign interference.
Ideas are fair game, but anti-democratic methods are not.
Very nicely articulated!
The idea that democracies don't get weaker is a pretty convenient justification for mainstreaming fascism.
Democracy has ran its course for this cycle - and there’s no doubt the world goes through cycles.
@@joeythelipz Except the last time the world fell prey to authoritarian regimes, it spawned a war, multiple genocides, tens of millions of deaths, and the implosion of said regimes. All in the span of roughly a decade.
Some of y'all are way too excited about the demolition of democratic norms for your own good.
Colonial version of putting puppets in countries sort of democracy is over. With the advent of internet and technology, people are informed now and will vote for those who take care of their interests.
With PM Modi in India, I love that he has given the youth something to look forward to, to cherish their own culture, and that he has been targeting multidimensional poverty (albeit slowly). But I hate that people here don't care much of the declining independence of the accountability institutions (RTI, Lokpal, etc), the law enforcement agencies (CBI, ED) and BJP's general frustration with Parliament procedures. And I also hate that Congress didn't do things properly that people are ready to give BJP a completely free hand.
The way I see, an idealistic way forward could be when BJP respects all good things it has done, but also the important institutions that make India the largest democracy.

democracy is also a right to vote for far right or far left not only for liberal centric parties. The current EU government is being voted out as people are not more convinced by their ideas as they are so far far away from reality
depends. you can also have democracy with laws preventing parties that ought to destroy democracy like what the pizs tried in poland, or orban does in hungary,... or erdogan does in turkey, or vucic in serbia... fico in slowakia and so on...
so you can actually shut down a specific direction for self protection.
@@Daxter250Very nice gesagt , they forgot DD über ales!
Leftists think democracy is their property, and if PPL don't like their ideology and it's dangerous consequences which whole World is witnessing, it's against democracy.....
Far right and far left in what axis? You can be far right and far left and still want democracy. Unfortunately that’s not always true.
@@Daxter250Orban is a legally and democratically elected prime minister of Hungary, stopping his supporters from voting for him would've been fascist.
For the US reporter…..we do not have 2 parties, we have 5, but as she has shown not many know about the other 3
Did she say the power was turned off @ 13:45?
That seems like something worth assessing.
@25:00 Journalistic revision: "Two old white men" should have been more accurately reported as "One old white man and one old orange man". Our apologies. 🙂
Ha ha ha you are hilarious 🤮
Ahh yes, the good old "the people did not choose the way I wanted them to therefore democracy isn't working" song and dance.
Brazil, one of the largest economies and democracies in the world, almost had a coup in the past year (2023). Things were very explicit and I'm surprised there is no content in DW news about it.
I wish DW News was more neutral on both it's reporting and it's anchors' opinions.
