  • From fireside chats to key decision-maker: A history of the European Council
    www.eudebates.tv/
In the 1950s, when an embryonic European Union was taking shape, national leaders had to improvise every time they wanted to meet. But the need to respond to pressing events in Europe and in the rest of the world, as well as the determination of some, would gradually transform their informal chats into the decision-making centre that we know today. This documentary looks at the story of the European Council through the eyes of those who witnessed its impressive transformation.

Nicely done. Easy to watch and learn. I live in America where everyone is dumb as a bag full of hammers, breaking store windows and standing in the street or trying to take over the Capitol. It probably won’t last much longer. Interesting experiment tho.

Europe had nothing of interest for Britain. The EU is overseas on a foreign land full of foreigners. So remote and detached from the UK. It was obvious we would eventually leave. We were just taxation fodder. Nothing more.

The eu is our largest, closest, and most important trading partner, and while we were members, we had extremely easy trade with 27 other countries and since leaving british businesses have had to scale down, move their operations to the EU or be forced to shutdown as they become financially unviable. We had access to a continent wide border service, which meant trade import inspections could be spread around europe as a whole and not just at dover where we don't have the facilities or the people needed to staff those facilities that are required to properly protect our border. While we were in the EU, we also had much easier access to specialist labs that deal with proving food safety, which don't get that much work relatively speaking and so aren't financially viable in smaller markets like the UK, which is why we don't have many and the ones we do possess have shrunk since leaving the EU. This means that if an outbreak of something happens to, let's say, british beef, it may very well be extremely difficult if not outright impossible to prove that it's safe, effectively annihilating our beef industry for decades to come as countries ban the import of british beef and domestic consumers become more hesitant to buy it.
These are by no means the only things we lost when we left. they're just what I can think of from the top of my head.
Brexit was able to happen because of ignorant people like you. Do us all a favour and actually learn how the world works before you start spouting this inane shit
