First time using a grinding tool to sharpen. Sharpening a bunch of paring knives that needed it. The small blade length and the area where the blade meets the handle (sans choil) made the start position not on the edge guide. Seemed awkward at first. Also I note as the blade tip left the angle guides, it was initially unstable as I had such poor technique to begin with. Quickly improved but there were these little things when found that made a difference. (Wonder what else I need to do better) Overall a very quick process--appreciate learning and overtime getting better.
The spinning belt will sharpen in a downward direction on one side of the blade and on an upward direction on the other side of the blade when using the angle guard. Does this make a difference on the quality of sharpening?
My KO2 is due in tomorrow and just realised that the grinding attachment does not come with it, I must have watched a youtube video showing out of the box and it had both attachments. So at £130.00 I'm now thinking what do you get extra for that from what I can see they both do the same thing? The bit with the guide on takes away any guess work where the grinding attachment is a bit more free hand am I missing something here? I don't think the grinding attachment adds anything.
@@AgoristsAxioms I picked up a Precision Adjust™ ELITE Knife Sharpener on a Black Friday sale. It works great, but takes a lot longer than things look for the Ken Onion system. I've sharpened two of my fillet knives with this unit. You can't place the back of the fillet knife against the blade holder as the fillet knife blade is too narrow. I found it best to use a piece of paper to assure the sharpening stones are touching the knife blade and not the knife holder. But WOW, these fillet knives are very sharp, I used the 15 degree setting.
This model offers more precision with .5° adjustments, the guides have been redesigned to allow and for thumb studs and are now leather lined making them gentle on knives. The digital speed allows for consistent and repeatable sharpening experience, while the sharpeners’ new torque control delivers consistent power, even under load.
You made a change to the cassette guide that I intended to but have not done yet for my KO. I was going to cut the guides at an angle to allow thumb studs to clear. Does this guide fit the older cassette? If so, I need to buy one. Thanks
We don't recommend sharpening a straight razor on this system. Its great for a lot of knives and the convex edge the flexible belts offer is advantageous in most cases but it works against you when it comes to a straight razor.
Does anyone else think that the edge guide has a design flaw to where it should come out further towards the user so that the blades edge is even grinded? Also, doesn't the felt pad support feel like it should be more firm so that it stays steadier for a less wobbly grind?
I think this is the best tool ever for sharpening a knife if you take knife sharpening a bit more serious. The only complaint i have is... this tool is saadly constructed only for right handed people as far as i know. As soon as there is a left handed version im gona buy the hell out of the produkt....😅
I don't know if this version is any better, but I bought one of the original sharpeners and it does not put an even grind on each side of the knife. I was very disappointed with it.
You probably don't need to upgrade, as the original KO is a fantastic machine! However, there are some improvements in the newer model that could enhance your sharpening experience. The redesigned leather-lined guides are gentler on knives and fit a wider variety of knife types, offering precise adjustments down to 0.5° with the new scope click angle settings. Additionally, the speed control is more consistent, providing better control and repeatability in sharpening.
I have reached out to work sharp several times, I am not sure how they can says they are the best customer service when I just don't get responses. Looking though these comments proves my point. They want you to reach out, but leave you hanging!
Apologies for the delayed response! If you sent an email to info@worksharptools.com someone should reach out soon if they have not already. If you still need help please reply and we will make sure you get your questions answered!
Just ordered mine. Thanks for the how to video. My Honey Badger EDC will be the first to experience a good sharpening.

I got the first one and use the heck out of it now I got to get this one with all the accessories.

Just got mine yesterday. My question is regarding stropping. Any video assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.
Any tips on fillet knives? Mine get very narrow toward the tip. Do old guys have a problem keeping the correct angle?
Same here! Please LMK if you find an answer to this problem

I'm wondering if the belts are interchangeable with the original Ken Onion worksharp machine?
Does the new blade grinding attachment fit the mk1? Since all the belts seems the same?
I use a brand new MK1 system, thats why im asking
Same
By looking at the video it feels like it fits
@@AbuRashid79 yeah but I don’t want to gamble with my money.
Sorry for the delayed response here! No the new Blade Grinding Attachment does not the old model.
What makes this better than the mk1 other than digital throttle control?

No, the only parts that are compatible to the older version are the belts.
Can you use the workshop can onion addition to sharpen a straight razor in what grit

Incoming Saturday!
Need something lighter/more portable than my well loved Tormek T8.
Will the stiff kit work with the BGA?
What's the difference between the standard and stiff kit? I looked up the Stiff Kit, but the description didn't explain anything about the belts.
The stiff kit doesn’t let the belt flex as much and u get a more flat grind
@@garrettthomas9480 Thank you! I'm buying some today!

Why should get this if I got the KO Mk1 last year?
@2216sammy I mean, yeah, but I was hoping I might get an answer as to whether there's a compelling reason to upgrade 🙃

Because a man needs the newest toy made.😂
I usually wait for a 2nd version. Don't see how they can improve it more. They will.😂
How does the edge angle guide work when you get to the tip? There's no support and it just wobbles
