Its a painfull fact that Cliff Burton don't live enough to play this in live, he wrote this marterpiece and the call of ktulu too
He co-wrote both songs with James and Lars, and additionally with Mustaine for Ktulu.
Cliff Burton was just a bass playing god!!
What kills me, is he didn't die of suicide or an overdose...he was doing what he loved, being alive.
This entire album- Master of Puppets- is a masterpiece. Definitely worth a listen!

To be fair Robert does a great job here, though.
While it is fun to watch (and hear the crowd live) the studio will allow you to hear all the awesome nuances that can be lost in a live performance. Great reaction Bisscute! I love the spotlight on the bass as well. ;) R.I.P. Cliff Burton!

Orion is one of my favoritest songs ever. Songs that transcend even all my favorite songs transcending rhyme or reason. That they played this at the first of their Arlington, Texas shows (August 18, 2023) and had me nearly crying with joy because I never thought I'd get to hear it live. But I did...

During the Cliff Burton days of Metallica, bass was a lot more prominent. Orion, Call of Ktulu, Four Horsemen, Master of Puppets, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and the giant bass and drum only instrumental of Anesthesia. Cliff was the initial push that made me transition from guitar to bass.
ORION is a northen constellation...and I'm actually looking at it right now as I'm writing this to you... it's now 11:31pm here in Canada 🇨🇦 ❤❤❤

I used to play this with my friends when I was kid. I even wrote lyrics to it and sang them, terribly. 😁Recording wasn't as easily available back then so all I have is the memories. 🤘
Orion is a star constellation..."The Hunter" I think it is. This was Cliff Burton's favorite piece that he wrote.

This shows how great a bassist Cliff Burton was, that sound, still gives me the chills. And off course one of the best instrumentals ever on one of the best albums of all time.

I saw Metallica in New Jersey in the USA and they played Orion and it sounded amazing!
Love to see young people appreciate a band that formed in 1981, I remember when they started, and bands like Ratt, Doken, Motley Crue, Winger was a good time to grow up in Los Angeles

I wasn't around for that show (I was only one year old at the time xD) but years later when Metallica toured in Seattle I really enjoyed their show! The one that I went to was in 2003 at the Seahawks Stadium that's now called Lumen Field. :)

I remember listening to this in my bedroom, turned up to MAX, in high school/ 80's, blowed out of my mind playing my "air guitar 🎸 " and head banging!!! Great memories, GOOD TIMES
In that tour they always played spit out the bone in that song slot which was late concert. I remember in the arena when i heard the intro tape for spit out the bone at almost mid of the show i just freaked out cause i knew that later they would have played orion🥲🥲🥲🥲

Metallica live is such an experience! I went to see them perform live in Seattle back in 2003 - the show was AMAZING! So damn fun!
I used to listen to this instrumental in the locker room before getting on the ice before playing in ice hockey games. Then we'd skate in warmups to songs like Battery and Disposable Heroes. ALL on the Master of Puppets CD. Thanks for sharing your reaction.

Watching this one again, makes me realize how tight they are sounding now (for example Orion in Gothenburg, Sweden, June 16 of this year...), more in sync and accurate.

this is an instrumental track from their 3rd album from 1986, in my honest opinion this song was made to say something like: "_yes, we have a bass player and he makes sounds like this"

I don't do drugs and never have, but if I did, this is one of the songs I'd sit back and chill to. I love Metallica's instrumental songs. Orion, Call of Ktulu and To Live is to Die. TLITD does have James saying a few lines that Cliff Burton wrote.. The song is a tribute to Cliff.
Reaction to (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth on Kill Em All. Funny I always remembered this songs name as "Bass Solo Take One." But that was what the sound engineer says at the intro. One of my all time favorite songs!!!

Kirk uses tape on his right hand to keep a cut from opening up while playing and bleeding all over his guitar/getting into the electronics. It’s like he had a blister and playing every night, it’d keep ripping open and bleeding, then scab up and then get ripped open again and again, etc so a while back he started putting tape over that spot on his picking hand where he’d rub & rip up the skin to prevent that and to prevent the bleeding

I actually thought after Cliff burton died it was the end of metallica. He was such a key part of their sound. The band was never the same after. Yes they put out some great albums over the years but the 1st 3 were some of the best music ever put out for thrash metal.
… And Justice would be up there, as well, had it had… ahem… bass.

Also from Metallica, I think most of us would have liked to see a concert where they play Orion with Cliff but unfortunately fate did not want it that way, hopefully and if he reacts to Ktulu since the bass is more evil there

Although, you have to listen to _Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)/Whiplash_ at the same time/reaction. You can't listen to one without the other. It's just the Law of Metal!
