The spinning back fist or elbow is very effective when when engaging someone who's behind you. I rang a dudes bell with a spinning back fist years ago. I then took off in a full sprint to escape from 4 more guys that were gonna jump in. Sometimes you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, I did what I had to do to protect myself and then I bailed.

Most people seem to approach the idea of multiple attackers from a sport perspective. Defeat your opponent...opponents. They are also used to having he guarantees of safety, environment and terrain. This is great because in a life and death, aka...combat perspective is to do whatever you can to escape alive. Nothing is guaranteed. Fundamentals and training various worse case scenarios simply increases your odds. This is great.

Actually had a real life experience when I was 14 a bunch of guys gang up on me at a party. I don't think all of them actually wanted to hurt me. But at least three of them were actually hitting me hard, when they didn't respond to me asking them to stop. I grabbed one of them by the arm and I bit him. They all stopped after that! 😆 lol

Have you ever stopped think about why MMA fighters wear 4oz gloves? They're so small why wear gloves at all? Some might say the gloves protect your opponents face somewhat? Others might say it protects your hands? And it is does... But in the way you're probably thinking?

Ryan Hoover, I have watched your Funker Tactical-Fight Training Videos before and I don't recall commenting before, but I wanted to say thank you for sharing your information, expertise, and honesty. I immediately understood what you meant when you said, "if I can take his consciousness and his heart..." This was honest. In a real-life situation, you can't fully engage more than one person at a time, but you can hopefully discourage the second, third, and fourth guy by really doing damage to the first idiot who you can get your hands on. In the 1980s (not long after the Bernard Getz subway issue), I was approached by around 3 teenage robbers. I knocked down the first guy that was the closest who approached me for money and the other two didn't want to get knocked down so they backed away. The second guy had a concealed gun that he was holding for the first guy, who grabbed it after I let him up off the subway floor. Fortunately, God allowed me to talk the guy out of trying to shoot me before I needed to do a "kotegaeshi" technique since I was within reach to use this.

Two guys tried to intimidate my friend and me out of money . I was closing my car door and one of them grabbed my door. I got out between two cars ,the guy went to the other side and his friend came around. I dropped down in a ready stance and he took a boxing stance. I quickly gestured forward as if I were going to attack, a feign move. He was startled and we all broke apart with no fighting.

3:46 And they said the CoD offhand backhand knife slash and the way Snake holds his knife and pistol in MGS3 were BS... Seriously, awesome vid. I always find these informative and helpful, especially the unarmed stuff. I like how brutally practically and obviously effective everything is. Thanks a lot for putting it out there for free!
I think another good time to line opponents up is if they are shooting at you. We're taught not to fire with friendlies in our sector, and they try to use that against use. We can do the same dirty trick! Hopefully, they'll cease fire to avoiding hitting the people on their team and have to move, buying you time - or just hit their own guy! Although there's some odd ballistics exceptions, most bullets most of the time will hurt less after going through a bad guy first. I figured that trick out to save my ass in a video game one time as a kid, and I saw a guy do it once under fire (successfully) on ActiveSelfProtection channel. If I can ever find which of the 1400 videos it was (relatively recent I think), I'll post a link.

To the bad guy's friends it means alot when you bust the hell out of their "big guy" with a "bitch slap" it's not a slap but a open hand hit with the base of the palm which does protect your hand. I used to have hammers for fists but 2 years ago I was shot in my right palm with a +p 45 hollow point and most of the bones are titanium rods so now. I hit open handed with my right hand and use it for impact and can easily use it to hit and hook and feed my elbow or knee. So you get hit hard with an open hand and instantly get pulled into my elbow or knee depending on my footing. It's all situational but never fall into one style. You never know when that method wont work for you anymore and most of the method changing injuries comes on during a fight. You e got to protect your hand to stay in the fight. So never just train with fists. You'll think they are good enough until a tooth cuts a knuckle or even a tendon in you hand or you break your hand. Elbows and knees are a good back up provided they can handle the impact. You know your body so train to hit with every option you have

1 point at jared, when hitting behind look first.
noticed he was just turning and hitting the shield as he knew it was there but his eye's stayed on the focus pad infront of him. better to put the focus mitt behind so he is forced to look and target strike instead of thrashing blindly behind and hoping you connect with a target that has left your vision. before you can hit the target you must reacquire the target before you can hit it.

I used to teach my soldiers to use palms and kicks (in order to preserve draw distance) and the other Sgt frequently laughed about it. So, I'd sad "with your real-deal strength, punch that wall twice and then we'll see how your hands and emotional fitness will be after it to continue a fight". Well, the fact is that we tend to have a very wrong idea that a fight is always ended by one good strike. Trully, it really can be. But always prepare for the worse, so we keep in mind that a motivated perp would go on for a while, and we have to endure as long as the fight does, in order to do what has to be done.
Thanks for the awesome content and keep it up!

  • @electedelite2210
    @electedelite2210 5 років тому +4

When you're fighting multiple attackers I think and this is just my opinion, you should focus on footwork, striking pressure points and environment. Your footwork keeps you mobile and hard to hit. You should move often to evade other threats, thus giving yourself better positioning.
Pressure points should be utilized because you want every shot to count. A wild punch to the side of the head isn't as effective as a strategic open hand to the throat that could potentially crush the windpipe.
Environmental because every day weapons are a thing. When you find yourself out numbered you should look to even the odds by utilizing improvised weapons.

  • @flintrocks
    @flintrocks 6 років тому +13

Best tips I can give on fighting multiple attackers, based on my experience: Unpredictability, pure ferocity, controlled aggression, and FOOTWORK! Dont get surrounded! As far as unpredictability - Dont fight who you are looking at, for example your squared up against attacker 1 and you see #2 charging you from a few feet away, find a way to distract or disengage from #1 and meet the charge of #2 - do this with a punch, push, shove, something to create a few seconds for you to quickly engage your second attacker, quickly and viciously, which he probably wont expect. Catch your opponent by surprise, and drop him quickly
Fight like a lion. This means if your fighting 2 attackers, fight twice as hard. "A cornered animal is a dangerous animal" fight with this mentality, fight like a wounded wild animal, show them that they might have numbers, but you have aggression and ferocity, show them you arent worth the pain. Overwhelm your opponents with aggression when they dont expect it. Just landed a punch on the guy infront of you? Nice! Now turn around quickly and viciously and smack the guy behind you, doubt hes expecting that! Fighting in a group can be awkward, use that awkwardness against your opponent! Feint at one opponent, swing at the other! Make them tangle up with each other!
Ancient martial artists learned alot from wild animals - if you dont believe my words, look up wolf packs in captivity that gang up on the weak Beta male - once cornered the Beta turns into a different beast entirely, fights like a savage and because of this he can fight off 10+ bigger stronger wolves and survive.
Course all this requires experience to see your openings to create distance and create distractions (distract with pain or by knocking the opponent off balance), etc, but most of all, its requires the ATTITUDE of a true warrior who is going to fight like a wounded lion or a cornered wolf

It may sound a little Jackie Chan style comedy, but in the few instances I've been in where I've had multiple attackers my first or second strike usually involves pushing, tripping or throwing one attacker into another. It puts your first attacker off balance so they cant attack, it uses the superior numbers against them and ties up 2-3 at once and it can present an opportunity for a strike that will simultaneously ground multiple opponents and take away their motivation or give you an opportunity for escape. Winning is walking away on your own.

Well my brother from another mother has been studying Martial Arts for over 30 years and the master of 12 . I met him on a carpenter crew his nick name was “Johnny Guns “ bc he was also a weightlifter with big ass arms . For all you naysayers he did everything he can to be a lethal martial arts person so he kept his mind body and spirit always in tune with each other . There we were out in Cedarcrest Long Island NY working on a house that the heater caught on fire and created a huge fire in a million dollar home . The 5 of us were eating pizza and John was eating chicken. We asked do you think you can take on the 5 of us grown ass men . He said I believe so . He said you have to come at me full force and don’t hold nothing back for this to work . He made us promise not to hold anything back ! So he decided to take us on with a car that was on the driveway ,asking us if it was ok bc in a real situation he would stand in front of a car giving him this advantage. Us dummy’s said yes . He didn’t get into a Hollywood position he just watched us . So big Dave thought to charge and take him down with a tackle John side steps and puts his head into the car door hard ( Dave’s out ) Rob tried to swing with a haymaker John saw it ducked and as Rob missed he kick him into the ground by kicking his ass ,Robs recovering, Matt tried to dive on Johns back and John flipped him so hard Matt’s out we were on gravel That leaves me and another dude so I shoot in and come in with a tight hook to the head John then catches my hand holds my arm twists it and bends me over pulling me around as a shield from anyone trying to come in at him . I’m yelling ok stop stop stop and the guys were breathing heavy but not Johnny Guns lol true story . Thank God John has restraint bc I wanted to fight him a number of times before he showed us what he is made of lol . The dudes shines look like a hand saws teeth bc of all the calcium build up . He was able to kick a king stud and 2 jacket out after I professionally hammered them in with 6 , 10 penny farming nails . Now he’s teaching me ! Stay safe to you n yours brothers 👍 Sorry for the long as comment nothing to do while quarantined

I got into a multiple situation once. I was surrounded by 5 people. What i did was slip right and hammered the weakest one and threw him between me and the others. I figured going for easy pickings was the best plan. That way, I didnt find myself busy dealing with the strongest one, and have to worry about his weaker buddys joining in from the side.
I basically did that over and over untill the "Leader" in the confrontation backed down and tended to his buddies instead.

way above avg material, guys! try training w/ a 'lead pipe' (galvanized steel) a bit over a foot, on trees telephone poles, have training-partners holding long sections of fence-posts out at a sensible angle, & really 'mix it up'; pipes on logs really give different feedback! also, youve heard of 'smash&grab",; try grab&smash your target, & grab, shake one time really hard & smash, then use partner#1 as a shield vs partner#2, or shove him into #1; also try lots of pipe-puno-strikes...

Real situation when you are attacked by a group 4 to 5 with machetes, if there is escape route, run. Worst case scenerio, pick up any object which is useful to defend and fight your way thru and run. Never just fist fight against many attackers with weapons. Street fight has no rules. During some attack occured outside the club, most ppl unaware their attackers are usually very experience in taking down a few or an individual esp. after some dispute. I used to work in the club. There are always gang fights never seem to settle and follow by larger members turned up later with weapons outside waiting for the victim. When comes to multiple attackers, surrounded the few. One tactic is hit and grab one attacker, block and push as shield esp. when some attackers with machetes. Force your way out and run. Real fight unlike boxing, MMA or UFC etc where rules apply and points to win a fight. Street fight is a totally different aspect. Use all you have to defend yourself. Seriously, i never come across any individual without weapons successfully take down all multiple attackers w/ weapons. Perhaps such circumstances dont always happen to any individual.

One of the good thing about carrying a firearm in the front would be. If you have multiple opponents that jump you, you most likely will roll into the fetal position. If you have your firearm on your hip or more towards your back when you're in that fetal position your gun is free game! In the fetal position you can ball-up and be able to get to your gun and use it.

Also if you know you're gonna get jumped during a 1 on 1 fight just sucker one of their buddies as you're squaring up. I mean it's coming anyways might as well catch one of them off the bat. I took the first guy and wrecked his shit hard. Second guy came up and as I was fighting I got hit from the back.
Ended up taking down 3 of them hard, like 1 on 1, then just started moving and hitting any face I saw.
Stay on your feet, move, attack and keep attacking, don’t let them get a moment to think about how to work together.
Don’t let it go to the ground....at all. If you’re on the ground it gives other time to think and react by kicking you.
Move, hit, move hit, and hit hard like you’re taking their head off. Give no quarter

when you engaged the 2nd person, you opened up the field of engagement. Don't engage the second if you dont have to. Keep on the first, increasing violence of action. in the 1st demonstration you entered a hammer and anvil. In the second he began in an L. In both situations the defender must reposition. Not limited to hallways also obstacles, such as steel drums and fences. Also, a cross-collar hold is very usefull in the circling action that almost always begins.

Cool stuff, I have taken and became Black belts or teachers in Chinese, Japanese, Korean & American Freestyle & Greco Wrestling since I was 8 years old till now 57 yrs... I agree you must become master of left and right techniques, My own style is a modern street mixed martial arts, 70% of the time I ever use a fist, my hands are open for speed and 1", 3" to 5" of penetration in striking a person in soft zones or vital areas... My strikes I use ar ridge hand, monkey wrists, elbow, open palm, knees, low kicks ball of foot, Medium kicks ball of foot, sword tip & sword tip hand strike soft target areas. head is good in tight and top of forehead strikes face in soft areas.. Stance movements of small circles and triangle are best.. my technique is 1/2 inverted block strikes & external block combos.. Best defense is a solid offence and keep your attacker off balance or to busy to attack, incapacitate them quickly on the street... in the gym use perfect repetitive form, from slow to medium speed and air cracking speed... Prefect form + targeting + speed + controlling 1", 3" or 5" penetration will take out attackers.. it takes around 8 months to perfect a form or attack sequence...

I used on a guy when i was security at a night club i am 5'11" 250, the guy i hit was 6'8" 320, 2 pops it was over... throat & eye... he did not lose his eye, just couldn't see out of it for 2 weeks...lol

I never faced armed multiple people, and in real life - in my experience, which isnt much luckily - they dont tend to attack more than one at the time (at most grab, but they "wait"). However theres always the chance.
The last one, and most serious because we were adults (well.."adults"...on our 20s) and not teens, i was with a group of friends but most of them female and a couple of guys (not very prone to fighting, but neither i am i guess). a bigger group started following us and verbally harassing two of the girls (mostly the grilfriend of a (back then) friend (which later on i discovered was because she dated one of the guys there and...well, stupid people). Someone grabbed my backpack (on one arm --SIDE NOTE, dont do that...back problems) i let the backpack fall and pushed him a bit. Damnit i was scared... but rage-y too. The worst thing is, i knew that guy, and knew he did some thing (boxing? kickboxing? mma? one of the "in the ring" sports alike. sorry for bad english) so, i knew i wasnt going to win but run was an even worst idea (im pretty slow)
How did it end you will say? well, i knew one of the "leader" guys there lol. He said "simon?" and the tension went away and nothing happened.
I honestly dont know what should i have done then....im not a good fighter, im kinda pussy, the place wasnt very crowded at all, im slow but even if i could run, theres a lot of people there from both groups....nope, defintely not a nice scenario
I will be so SO happy when i finally leave this shithole country next year

The fighting techniques are practical. But the scenarios and how they play out are not realistic. If it's a gang that truly is a imminent threat then they will come at you in a disorderly pattern and you will not be able to line them up and you will not see all of them because most of them will be behind you.

They first ordered him to the ground outside his front door and then forced him inside where they drug his wife out of her room. There were also three small children who remained asleep in their rooms down the hall. They took their things and then made them kneel at the bathroom tub with a gun to the back of their heads. The robbers left and no one was hurt. It seems that compliance worked best but it could have easily gone another way. Do you have a couple of possible alternatives besides leaving your family in the hands of robbers who might have taking more than just your things in mind?
