    As a bouncer, I fought a guy with a knife. He was stabbing another person before I fought him. I did not think about a thing before I stepped in. After the fact, I realized I made a huge mistake. I walked away without being hurt. My family could have lost me. I served 7 years in the Army, but know that does not matter. No matter the training you receive, you can always lose your life.

    • @ETBrooD
      @ETBrooD 3 роки тому +4

      It's not that realistic actually. In a real knife fight, the defender should stay as far away as possible, and if somehow the attacker gets this close, that means it's almost game over. I'm not kidding, at that range you're as good as dunzo.
      Of course this video is still a little bit useful because you should never give up, but really this scenario shouldn't happen. Unless perhaps if you're trying to protect someone else, then you might have to engage like that.
      Always keep your eyes open and never, I mean NEVER engage in a knife fight unless you're protecting someone else. Otherwise always run away, 100% of the time.

      You realize that the guy in the red shirt is doing aikido when he's successful... the other times he's messing up big time by standing in front of the attacker. First rule: GET OFF THE LINE OF ATTACK DO NOT STAND IN FRONT OF A GUY WITH A KNIFE! I knew you'd love the fact that he's doing almost pure aikido. The whole thing about locking his arm under his armpit isn't going to work, the attacker is going to punch you in the face and if the attacker is bigger it wont work at all. The only thing that works with knives is GET OFF THE LINE. Don't try this at home.

      Ok, I will say if someone has a knife and it's available, try the stuff ur talking about, but please don't rely on it. Several of my "I'll just bite him/kick in groin/poke/gouge his eyes out" friends thought it would work, until they hit someone and realized just trying to use pain doesn't help against someone on an adrenaline rush. One guy tried it, it didn't work, then ran away when it didn't, leaving another one of my friends to get beaten up by 3 guys, long story short he almost got blinded in one eye. Don't rely on just ball punches, eye strikes and biting, it'll work very seldom. If u want to protect urself, make sure ur self defence gym is legitimate, or join somewhere that does legit martial arts like muay thai, bjj, mma, boxing etc.

    Trained with the IDF commandoes back in the first intifada in the 1980s. This is exactly how we trained. We walked away sore, bruised, bloody, and always in pain. But it looked like this demonstration. We were told, "No stop and go. No posing. No pre-planning." All attacks came from nowhere, and what we were taught the most was to go inside, even though we knew we would be cut. Wrap with one hand, inflict pain to the vital points with the other. No two attacks are the same, so why train the, "What ifs?" Everything is a what if, so the only technique to use is the one that works in that particular moment. Excellent lesson here. Heed it well.

    I thought I was trained until I was cut by a 15 year old who was “blooding in” to a gang. I walk with a cane and carried both a can of pepper spray and a pistol for self defense. I was distracted and totally engaged in what I was doing. I noticed the kid all in red looking at me from across the street. I ignored him. I felt an electrical type of sting on my left arm. He was slashing at me and I got cut, very badly cut. He looked away for a fraction of a second. I was able to smack him with my cane but he then cut me again. It was over in seconds. My martial arts, my weapons my situational awareness all were of no use. My cane , necessary for walking, undoubtably made the attack stop. If my attacker’s intent was murder he could have easily stabbed me in a vital spot. As it was I needed 67 stitches to close my wounds. All of my training failed because I was not aware of my surroundings.

    One of the first lessons we learned during self defence class was that when someone attacks you, you need to have the mentality prepared to get hurt. That's not blindly taking damage, you need to have self preserverance, but if you are always worried about getting hurt, you will automatically become scared. The techniques showed in this video is very practical. The two thumbs down grab is amazing.

      in training, I learned one valuable technique to get over being punched by one of my Brothers; Have your training partner punch you a couple times. You get over the "but what if I get hit" factor REALLY quick. LOL. Also, if you have students, or others you train with, when the adrenaline is flowing, you find how little getting hit in the face actually hurts.

    as both a marine grunt, and Kali/silat practitioner... and one who's been in a few scuffles, you touched on the main points; fights do not go in slow mo, do not stop until YOU stop them, and are NEVER fair. I do have to admit, I've never stopped to consider the above or below 90 degrees before. THAT was an amazing insight, and really does lend credence to the 4,5,8,12 angle systems. I think with my students, I'll continue the various angles, solely to keep tradition alive, and show the various things one does with each angle, THEN as they advance, break into the above or below 90 concept, so they can get a real appreciation for everything else they've learned and put the pieces together much faster. THAT, is brilliant.
    post script; I find people that delve into "what if" have never actually been in fight scenarios before. That isn't a bad thing either... it just gets annoying really. What if? answer: what happens, happens, and you deal with what you have at that moment, while praying for the best. I always tell people who ask about knife techniques one common thing regardless of their fantastical scenarios; if a knife is involved you have two guarantees. 1) you will bleed, and 2) there WILL be legal consequences.

      I've been reviewing knife defense techniques myself as well. I can say that the system of running away is the most useful in virtually all scenarios.
      So just go for a run every day or two, always watch your surroundings, and don't go to shady places, you'll be much safer that way against knife attacks than by practicing close combat.

      Why are so many people oblivious to evil on this planet? All human flesh, all animals flesh and all plant life/the earth, is CORRUPT via SIN long ago. Humanity has not been restored yet. That's why Evil is everywhere. People kill everyday. And any human can kill, no matter if they have any training or not. And espeially if you put certain NEGATIVE VARIABLES in someone's life. For example; them facing financial problems, cheating husband/wife, loss of job/kids, etc etc, are all negative variables and people will kill or severely hurt someone over these certain negative variables going on in their life. Money, sex, drugs and most people's lack of knowledge on how demons operate via our minds airwaves are the number one reasons why people kill. Demon operate and manipulate any airwave cause they are principalities of the air. And our minds function through the airwaves. But most people dont realize humans can be UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DEMONS just as we can be UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS and ALCOHOL. People who kill or hurt with the intent, are ALWAYS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DEMONS. Most cops and sadly most psycologist dont know this. But these people just need to be DELIVERED IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST and they'll go back to normal, not have pills shoved down their throats. All mental illness comes from demons messing with your mind. Focus on Jesus and they'll leave you alone. And remember demons SHUTTER and TREMBLE at the name of Jesus Christ. They are TERRIFIED of Him and us Christians because we know the knowledge that Jesus is our LITERAL WEAPON AGAINST ANY EVIL JUST BY SAYING HIS NAME AND CALLING UPON HIM. Our cops, and our investigating agencies need to wake up and so do our psycologist, "who study the human soul" bc they have no idea how demons work and they should because they study the human soul. Just sad.

Also standing more square, rather than to the side as you would in boxing, and the weaponless hand is used to defend, grab etc Your a trolling fool who most likely knows nothing of self defense.

However, for some reason not enough of this training translates to the civilian world for LE. This is exactly how our officers should be trained. A LE officer should be able to adjust and take control. Not only does it keep them “clean” from having the dirty media drowning him in negative press, but more importantly it may save his life.

      @Osprey1994 7 років тому +11

      You clearly don't train BJJ. Maybe it was just my gym but not going 100% at some point was rare. Most of the time white belts will try to strength their way out of situations, and it leads to some legit rolling. Blue belts are usually a bit more restrained, purple and above are monsters and are going to shut you the fuck down. The thing about BJJ is unlike boxing, Must Thai, etc the degrees of harm range significantly. Most of the time the goal is to lock the technique in, but if someone doesn't tap out you can start applying that technique. Also it's really fun to combine BJJ with striking so our gym regularly threw gloves on.

      I saw intensity, I didn't see an attack. I saw one thrust and then letting the other man do his demonstration. Every nonsense martial arts demonstration ever has been conducted this way. Go look at the Wing Chun or Kung Fu demonstrations, always the master 'exploding' with intensity on a completely static attacker. The only reason I care is because it was claimed in the video there would be a real attack.

      Are you saying that everything that was displayed in this video has no real world validity? He did get stabbed once (with a metal training knife) but kept fighting! I'm an overnight security guard. I train Kung Fu. Kung Fu is not magic. I once took a guy down like this video. The guy, sneakily, tried to stab me in the face with a pen. It was pure reaction on my part. I don't even know what I did. My training just came out. Next thing I knew I was breaking his arm on the ground and he was screaming. I think the Marine /Cop has great experience and wisdom that can be of benefit. "The fight moves, we move!" :)

    I'm telling you, don't think that after watching these techniques, you will be able to easily disarm your opponent; in your fantasies maybe. Theory is like 10-25% and practice is like 75-90%, so you would have to be constantly sparring with a friend and never anticipate his strikes. And even if you practice these techniques for years, you should ALWAYS do your best to avoid these moments and it's better to run away or calmly follow his orders than to engage him in a knife duel. Even professional boxers can't dodge all the jabs, how can you block or dodge a knife?
    I mean this happens in a blink of an eye, the stupidest thing you can do is to anticipate certain strikes; it's about adaption, going along with the moment. When this happens your fear and adrenaline kicks in, you won't be able to think straight, that's why being used to stressful situations and having muscle memory is the key. Don't try to be a hero in lethal situations, it's not a joke, engaging him is the very last thing you should do.

    • @anthonycabrera8030
      @anthonycabrera8030 7 років тому +12

      Divine Music Comment of the year, people often come to youtube videos or buy self defense videos and think they know how to defend themselves in a choreographed movie-like knife fight. But the truth is knife fights are quick, unpredictable, and bloody. If you get stabbed in a vital area you're survival odds are 50/50 unless you are immediately hospitalized. That's not counting if you are stabbed multiple times, how big the blade is, if the blade is serrated, or complications like infection or internal bleeding after the wound is closed. like you said it's better to do what you have to do to survive than to risk your life because you watched a training video.

      @metal cut if your lucky. cut artery, cut nerves, punctured organs is what will most likely happen. it's funny i hardly hear instructors advice to carry weapons. best chance you have to fight a knife is to carry a knife. my point is they should put more thought into making these videos; a poor fool will watch this, and think he can effectively fight a knife wielder.

    Granted the method of defense is sound, however the one thing no one ever expects is the feint. The feint is a reliable get into or out of (in some situations) method used for eons to force your opponent into an advantageous position from which you can attack with little or no risk of counter measures.

    always always keep it so damn simple a kid can do it after one try if your students ask you how you did that its to advanced already.
    its about reaction not thinking and then acting on it.
    ive been working the door as a bouncer and as a dont know what its called in american but you do the police work without being im the police. i worked as a civilian aressting shoplifters and people that did vandalism etc.
    you then find out pretty fast that 99,99% of all the martial arts in the world dont count for shit and people that can brawl and often street fight they know their shit and is not to be messed with

      knife sharpening norway I try to tell people that. I practiced Jeet kune do after getting decent with boxing from childhood. I street fought ALOT after I learned jeet kune do I still had some moments where I had hard times against people who developed their own styles to just work against others and it taught me instead of relying on a style just rely on what works which is why I love Jeet kune do. I wasn't getting that at first I thought I had to copy the teachers lol no no no that's how you get your ass beat

    I loved the times he tried to attack when he looked like he was resting from the last demo. Still didn't work. LOL! The one thing that gets in the way for most people is the idea of getting stabbed. That's where they can't psychologically get past it. People go into such training thinking: "Oh, when I'm done with training, nobody will be able to stab me." But, that's not the case. Odds are, you will get stabbed or cut up. If you don't, the attackers is really bad at it, or it's a very good day. Even in the demo, there were a couple times when he said: "Yeah, you got me" but still gained control. Once you resign to the fact that you will likely get hurt, then you can begin to train with purpose. What you end up doing is minimizing the damage you take, while inflicting overwhelming damage to the attacker. One thing you can't do is get stuck and freak out thinking your going to die. If you do panic, you are no longer thinking straight and then the chances you will in fact die, go way up. Being calm and in control are so important in these situations. These guys are both excellent! My hat's off to them.

      what point is learning to defend yourself when your teacher breaks your shoulders and elbows during practice? obviously his concepts work very well, and I have no doubt they would protect you. but having this stuff done to you isn't sustainable man, you're joints are gonna give eventually.

    Also, to the last part of your video. My old man was a Law Officers Training Board Certified Police Firearms and Combative instructor for like 20ish years when I was growing up. Good video, good advice. I think it is obvious to anyone that this would take many months of consistent training at a high level to be able to achieve a level of functional ability and muscle memory. I am also a Marine and now I am a retired police/corrections officer. In my 20+ years of service I have been stabbed once and slashed twice and have had to face a knife wielding criminal a total of 6 times. The first time I got stabbed it was in my sternum and lucky for me the blade was of cheap material and bent on impact. I became enraged at this point and overwhelmed my assailant with punches and kicks. The first time I got slashed he slashed at my face and I was able to get my left hand up to block his strike and he cut through my pinkie finger to the bone. Again luck was on my side as the first arterial spurt hit him in the eyes blinding him and I was able to get away to safety and radio for help. The second time I got slashed was across my chest cutting through my shirt and making a superficial cut across my chest. I was able grab a trash can lid to fend him off and bash his face in to disarm him. The next time I was threatened with a knife I used a metal folding chair to defend myself WWE style. The next occasion I used a heavy glass ashtray to disarm a knife wielding inmate by throwing it at him and hitting him in the face knocking him unconscious. The last time an inmate pulled a knife on me and another officer while chasing him around the cell block. The other officer when he saw the knife turned and ran away so fast that I laughed which caused the inmate to laugh and I was able to get him to surrender the knife and allow me to cuff him and escort him to SHU. I hold shodan ranks in Isshinryu karate, Judo and aikijitsu and I never tried to perform any martial arts techniques during these incidents except the first one.
