thank you Melinda, this is so powerful, I feel like you have Brough clarity into what I have been looking for couple years just in 1 hour! I'm so excited to learn more about the brand strategy and implement it in my work process
Love these videos! I think the hardest thing I am finding to grasp, is finding those who are ready to embrace strategy and not just huff at the idea i am going to charge to think before i even "get started". Many of the clients in my reach are the type you said you avoid now (ones who want just a brand, no strategy) which leaves me a bit lost as to how to find them. Would you say your case studies helped you sell this idea better and show the value/why you do it?
Hi Kieran! I found that asking really good questions was the biggest help. This post may help you: www.marksandmaker.com/journal/how-to-sell-brand-strategy
Loved this video, really insightful, thank you. I have 1 question regarding the Core kit: • I have this and it mentions to do the exercises over 2 mornings. If the client struggles to find time, Is it still effective to do this in 1 day? I also don't have an office to faciliate this so is it best hiring out a room with a large white board/TV and/or taking a whiteboard to the client? Thanks 👏 #Subscribed
Hi John! I've done it in one whole day (8 hours) before and it went well. I also have cut it down a bit and left out sections to fit within a limited time window. I have also altered the process a bit and I only do 1 user persona, which greatly helps in saving some time. Regarding the meeting room- I don't have one either, so we end up using the client's meeting room or I rent out a meeting room at a local coworking space. Most of the time, the clients have a whiteboard and/or TV, but I would confirm with them beforehand.
@@melindalivsey1 Thank you for replying. It's great to know that CORE can be cut down in areas and still work effectively. Jose has finally accepted my request into the FB group so I'm now able to ask more focused questions. Keep up the amazing work and I look forward to your next video.
@melindalivsey Why does it take 8 hours or more? Just curious to know. Do the client not tell you just for a logo Or simple website why do i have to go through such a long session. Moreover I get tired of answerinv questions? Does this ever feel like that?
I had a question about the Strategy deliverables. Would you offer Stylescapes as a deliverable of Brand Strategy or would it be a deliverable of the design service you're offering (ie. Identity Design, Web Design, etc.)? What would be the best place to position it in your process? I know this was more than 2 years ago, but it's been amazing watching your growth! Your sessions with Chris were some of the first pieces of content I've watched on going from Identity Design to Brand Strategy. It's cool seeing how you've translated the things you've learned from him into valuable insights for your own business and audience.
Hi Josiah, it depends. I've done it both ways. I see it as the bridge between Strategy and Design, and I've offered stylescapes with Strategy when it made sense for the client's problem, budget, resources, etc. Sometimes I've been hired by other design agencies to do strategy, so they do the styelscapes. And sometimes clients don't even need to redo their look and feel, so I don't do it then. Hope that helps!
How did you start the conversation to the client if you present strategy? What if the client don't need a strategy for their brand just the 'branding'?
Hi there! The art of selling is a huge subject. Have you seen my series on the Futur? This episode may help answer your question: ua-cam.com/video/dKIyObgkBVI/v-deo.html
If I lived in the US I would be targeting the Commercial Realestate Market (office space). Of the things I've seen on-line the sector is poorly represented.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I really love how you explain where you came from, where you are now and how you got there.

Hi Tetyana! Thanks for the kind words. I'm happy it helped you!
I will always be grateful with you Melinda, you are my influencer!

This was such an easy to understand strategy, thank you for uploading this!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Instablaster.
Thank you for uploading this Melinda. It's priceless and valueble. I'm in a transition from an experienced brand designer to a brand strategist. :)
I feel that I am currently your old self in the way I'm running my business. Time to update! Thanks Melinda!
My pleasure!
Thank you so much for all the value you give us, Melinda. I love you
You're very welcome!
Just watched this again. Brilliant

Great video Belinda! Have you got a release date or launch date for your branding course? I would love to learn from a strategic framework.
I don't have a release date yet. I underestimated how much time it was going to take. I'm hoping for the Fall though. :D
Melinda, which books are the best bet for learning strategy? Which ones would you recommend?
Hi Jack! I have a list here: www.marksandmaker.com/journal/must-read-books-design-branding-business
The strategy books are towards the end.
Taking work off my client's plate I think is a good icon.

@@melindalivsey1 That makes a lot of sense. It really does depend on the situation and the needs of the customer. Great point to keep in mind! Thanks!
This is very insightful.
Glad you liked it!
Hi Melinda, great to see your success, it's motivating to watch, just wondering do you do all your consultations in person or do you do some on Skype?
I do a lot on Zoom.

hi, the strategic framework link is dead, do you have a new one? ty
Thank you! I just updated it. Here it is: academy.thefutur.com/p/core?affcode=112836_wess-mpx

Smart! And I agree.
