I love the emphasis on shifting from selling with ego to leading with curiosity, and that that it a constant practice, not a switch. This is just bringing to mind a conversation I had yesterday with someone who was feeling the pressure to be prepared with the right questions to ask in a sales call, and they were finding themselves focusing more on the process - on the questions they were 'supposed' to be ticking off - rather than focusing on the person in front of them. And it was putting all the pressure on them - to perform, to explain, to prove - whereas shifting the lens from us to the person in front of us can free us up to really listen and explore, pressure-free. I love hearing Angie's experiences in her own words, her words are always pineappley!
I have spent YEARS overdelivering with a shotgun approach. Not fully exploring or diagnosing the problem / requirement and spent SO MANY hours that I need not have. I created some great work and got gasps of delight from clients, but it was not the right way to go about it. Thanks to you for helping show me the way
Hey Melinda ! I would request you to share some insights on brand startegy from a beginner to advance level you learned from chris or through your past years of experiences 💜🙏🙏🙏
Hi Rahul! Thanks for the request. I do share all of that on my website through a free Brand Strategy 101 course, resource list, and Brand Strategy Bootcamp. www.marksandmaker.com
Hey there. I have a question about brand strategy and how to set it up. I basically offer branding elements and general corporate design, like designing logos, websites etc.. But now I want to transition into brand strategy as well. But what I have heard so far is, that brand strategy searches for the "why" that the company (customer) really needs. My question is when to charge what, and on what do I work when. Do I request a brand strategy first before charging for anything else? Imagine that a client comes to me and needs a website. Should I charge for the brand strategy and the website at once or do I respond by saying that he needs to buy the brand strategy first and afterwards we talk about what he really needs? If it's still the website then great, but maybe the strategy session also discovers other things that his company is missing. I hope that my question was understandable. Can't wait to hear your responses and opinions on this. Thanks!! ~ Max
Hey Max! I used to charge for both design and strategy at once, but I have found it more helpful to do the latter: "respond by saying that he needs to buy the brand strategy first and afterwards we talk about what he really needs".
@@melindalivsey1 Probably a lack of confidence, mostly. Also needing the money. I also don't like feeling as if I'm always trying to convince people I'm worth more than minimum wage. Like you, I've also been an 'order taker' - for a long time now. I feel like I've been in a vicious cycle - and I'm starting to see my way out of it, and into something that feels (and actually is) more rewarding. I love your content so much - thank you for making it and thank you for replying.

So well articulated, Nick. Thank you for your wonderful reflection. :D
Such a great story about leaning into curiosity rather than serving ones ego! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks for sharing your journey, Dean. "overdelivering with a shotgun approach"-so relatable!
Very well said. We really do not need multiple ideas/concepts/designs when we have one that is spot on solving the actual problem client has.
Yes!
