I remember those I love the original with the unc bottoms they were clean, I always wanted nike to come out with a black and white pair (like the retros you shown) but when I seen them in person and tried them on they just weren't the same and I really couldn't point out why at the time until you actually got in detail about it like the leathers and everything not being as good and it made sense to me and made me realize why I didn't like them like how I did the originals

@@QuinnBJones You hit right on the head, sometimes I went to get out of the sneaker game(been in it since 2003) but they’re videos are so well put and THE HONESTY that CHRIS has on the whether the material or design and history of the shoe is what I LOVE THE MOST about his channel. The stories down memory lane is plus, but it’s him actually giving a shit is what I love. If you checked out the video on the knock off AJ 1 Travis Scott and his opinion I completely agree with on how the brands allow this to happen is their fault. And Jodi’s input on what they could do to make it better. They mesh great together Good balance. Also, educating the youth on what being a SNEAKERHEAD is all about!!! I even followed that up with a pair of Team 2s which I DESTROYED while working at my first job at an ice cream place. I love that you talk about these Team Js. In late 90s I didn't even understand the concept of Team Js vs Signature model. So I would get 12s and 13s and Team Js and just considered them Jordan's. I was in a Nike Outlet in 99 and they actually had a ton of team Js. These 1st Team Js were there, not sure the colorway. The Jumpman Pros. I ended up finding 14 Oxidized Green and got them and the Pros and didn't get these. But its great to see you talking about these. Nobody else even knows the history of them. This is why you are the best. Appreciate it and hope you have more vids like these.

It’s so crazy how much the shape of these changed throughout the years. I didn’t grow up with the original team Jordan’s and so, my only exposure to them was through the retro rereleases where the silhouette is a lot chunkier. The originals look so cool in comparison in my opinion.

LOVE the original Jordan teams. They were genuinely as good as the mainline model but with the mass in mind. These Jumpman/Jordan team models were sometimes the testing bed that offered a glimpse of where the brand was trying to go (i.e. Pro Strong vs. Pro Quick) so it was very cool to see the releases at the time.
Another athlete that came to mind when thinking of being as influential as a brand was Allen Iverson, and I'm sure Chris can do another episode (or better yet, 10) on the Question/Answer line.

97 98 was my Junior year of high school..I worked my first job that summer of 97. I bought so many shoes and only have a few regretful purchases. This shoe was one of them. Mind you I had so many I kept rotating..I think I may have had this shoe, the black colorway, and within 2 or 3 months the midsole ripped. Other regretful purchases were the Barry Sanders, the turf outsole made my feet hurt while delegating them to being my work shoe. Also the Penny 3. I liked the shoe for the most part but maybe it's just me but it made my feet sweat so much. However it's wild to look back in that 2 3 year window and see how much I bought that I still have love for today. The Pippin 2 for me was super slept on. So durable and comfortable.

A grail, to me, is something that elicits a great memory. For me it's 2 shoes, ironically both from Converse, the Run 'N Slam in the Phoenix color way (which I owned but were ruined in a flood) and the Aero Slam 2s (the ones that had LJs gold tooth on the bottom). My mom had to return them because there was a functionality error with the lace shroud and the cheap plastic "teeth" that kept snapping off.

So much of the draw of the original Jordan line was the storytelling and career highlights and achievements and personal touches wrapped in the shoe....I can remember when these first came out I was in high school and they were good....a nice silhouette and all but they just didn't go to the lengths with telling the story like they had with the premier Jordan line. I did like that these came in some different colors....especially the green Vin Bakers and etc....def. loved the Jumpman Pros! Also the original Jordan T-Runners were also amazing!

There is SO MUCH that went through my mind in that 11 minute video I don’t know where to start.
    1) Holy Grail is NOT an exaggeration. For me anyway.
    2) Between my brother and I we owned all of the OG colourways over a span of 3 years. Just kept looking for them on eBay after the old pair wore out.
    3) this shoe is the reason I became a fan of Kenyon Martin. I bought the black with white toes and it was the team shoe of the Cincinnati Bearcats and KMart was their best player at the time.
    4) still have my email exchange (in the most non-Stan, “old emails that I never delete” kind of way) with one Nightwing2303 from Feb of 2013. Discussing whether or not he knew if these would be retro’d...
Congrats on getting a pair of ogs Chris, and thanks for the video.

I love watching your videos particularly to hear both of your perspectives. All of the jumpans you showed brought back some nostalgic memories. Every one of them I either had or someone in my circle did while I was a kid. However when your wife speaks she does not based on nostalgia but rather from a fresh and honest perspective. Because some of the retro sneakers like these and the reebok answers do not have a story to it for her her honest dislike of them makes me question if they really stood the test of time or is it just nostalgic for me.

I love this shoes. Pros and college ballers in the Philippines during that era wore these. It was also the time Adidas came up with those feet you wear stuff, the Antoine Walker shoes was the most popular in my opinion. Those J's and those FYW's are all over televised ball games.

My first Jordan, ever. Pops surprised me with my first pair of shoes over $100 and out came these from the box. After that was the Reebok Answer 4, thank you for the nostalgic ride down memory lane.

I was working at footlocker when Jordan brand came out. The only people that copped these where 10-15 year olds who’s parents wouldn’t buy them actual Air Jordan sneakers. I rarely saw anyone over those ages who bought anything from Jordan brand. They were looked down upon in the DMV

My son just recently bought the UNC retro team 1. I told him that I was actually jealous cause I wanted the Team 1 when I was in high school but never could get them.

Yes! That era of Jordan Brand was one of the best runs of basketball shoes ever. When Nike was focusing on showing tech, and there we're really great designs that time too, Jordan Brand had the coolness factor. It's just the way they look on court, much more understated and with finesse. Almost as if you prance on the court rather than jog when you were Jordans, exudes elegance. The colorways and color blocking were on point too. In terms of design that time Nike was a mad scientist, Jordan Brand was an artist and Adidas was somewhere in between. Love, love, love that era of Jordan Brand!

Bruh, I promise, I still hold a grudge from the time my mom literally spent about 300 bucks on Christmas presents and I only asked for the 9s! To this day, my older brother calls me ungrateful because I told my mom she could take everything back because she chose not to get the shoes for me. It's a fun game nowadays because they still feel like they feel and I give no f! As far as your review, love it. I love this shoe and distinctively remember when Cincinnati wore those when Kenyon Martin was there. The different color instep was so fire to me. Everyone rocked them mismatched just to show off both colors at once. Great job NW, and Mrs. NW, stay spicy ma'am! 🤘🏿😁👍🏿

I had the O.G. black and whites, and at that time I actually preferred the look of them to that of the 12s, but my first Jordans were the black, red, n purple 7s. Congratulations on the find, big homie.

Those are beautiful - I couldn’t afford these when they came out, but got the retro (in a different colorway) last time. The shape was different but I was just so glad to finally have a pair!
I didn’t realize there was a huge material difference - kills me that they used to use higher grade materials but just won’t nowadays

Bruh, my very first pair of Js was the white cement 4s. I was a freshman in high school. My single mom cut me deal: she said she'd "pay for 1 shoe but I'd have pay for the other shoe." Translation: I had to come up with half the money. I worked my butt off to get the money. They were $129.99 at Modells and I had to go a 1/2 size up but I didn't care. I wore them all year and kept them pristine. And that was our deal (annually) until one day she said you gotta buy them yourself. Fast forward: the first Js I bought myself were the Pro Strong. LOVE Weartesters! Peace.

My cousin got a game worn and signed Team Jordan shoe from Eddie Jones. Jumpman Pro were my first Jordan’s. They didn’t pay us a lot in the military, couldn’t afford the signature Jordan’s.
