Hell, I'll do you one better, I'll pull the watch out of the box and wear it half a day before I realize that I haven't set the correct time or date!

@@matilda628 I have some very nice collector cars, Austin Healeys that I've collected and restored over the past 35 years (my 1955 is my birth year car). My nicest one is insured for $125K, and if anything should happen to it, I would not replace the car, I'd buy a very nice four watch grail collection instead. What's pathetic is that I already have the four watches picked out just in case!
Whenever I start talking about a watch with my wife, she immediately yawns.
Whenever someone notices my watch, it makes my day

Dont forget this "playing dolls with my watches", pampering it, changing straps, just put it on the table and look to it... ;-) My wife allways is amused about this little boy and his toys.

I never heard it put that way. Excellent ! Also starting all the automatics to “exercise” them and of course, daylight savings time is like a play date with your collection, especially the quartz’s.
I thought I had a problem but I'm normal.
I loose my wife when we go shopping as I'm always stopping by the ADs windows.
I gave a waiter a larger tip because he liked my explorer 1.
I'm now waiting for my wife to go to bed so I can watch your videos on the main TV.

My personal favorite is the process of packing for a two day trip. You've got your three outfits, two pairs of shoes, some toiletries and *TEN WATCHES* because you're not sure what kind of mood you'll be in tomorrow...
I find that people who collect or appreciate something like a fine watch, the history, the craftsmanship, also appreciate the same with other items. Ultimately this makes them a collector or at least appreciative of other finely crafted items. I love guitars, watches, pens, flashlights, guns, knives, when I smoked it was lighters (Dupont anybody). Stay safe my friends.
I find it completely the opposite. People who are super fussy over something like a wrist watch and over details and you can only see with a loupe are usually not that fussy over anything else in their lives.
D M ,,I may be the odd man out then. I use my loupe and microscope for my watches and my knife blades. I have several $700.00 knives and two $1500.00 knives. I disassemble clean reassemble and sharpen under the digital microscope. Then my gun collection that numbers near thirty is very similar in treatment. No loupe but use a bore scope. Anyway, point is I like many things that I completely see as art. I admire and appreciate the creator of each item. My watches,,,,my watches get wound every day. It is my ‘time’ to interact with each piece. The sound of the winding and pressure on the crown. Fun stuff. I like to interact with my wife in like manner. She is the Master’s masterpiece for me. Oops. Sorry. Time for bed!

I completely agree. I’m really into watches, but I also love bags, wallets (any leather good), knives, etc.

I have never thought about us being "art collectors" in our watch habit, but it does ring true.

My girlfriend shouted at me on Tuesday when I paused Boris Johnson’s lockdown announcement mid flow to figure out what he was wearing. Pretty sure it’s a Calatrava but the logo didn’t look right. No worries, I’ll ask my mate in the AD in a minute what he thinks...though I’ve no idea why the shop is still shut...
I done that'i also done the same last night with Tony Robinson ,worst jobs.
Boris wears a cheap quartz Pulsar, but it does look remarkably like a Calatrava.
Guess now, 9 months later, the shop STILL is shut.. again.. (?) (and I personally wonder if that ain't just ridiculous..)

Agree on all points, I'm especially bad with the watch spotting.
So true, so true. Stopping a movie to see the watch, but then looking it up on UA-cam or eBay, getting lost into it, then more watches and forgetting about the movie.

I use my missus’ indifference to watches to sneak new purchases in. “Is that new?” No, I’ve had it ages but I didn’t mention it because I know it bores you... #passiveaggressivedishonesty. (The backbone of my relationship.)

Completely agree and guilty of most of these! Here are 2 more:
1) The one the got away (the “deal” you were not quick enough to get).
2) The watch that doesn’t exist (thoughts like.. I would totally buy that watch if they sold it on 40mm or with a ceramic bezel or whatever.

It's one reason why I started looking into microbrands. Despite a large chunk of them being shameless homages, many will do those "if only" that the name brands will never do.

Always watch spotting! I was in a beautiful restaurant in Mallorca last summer with my family consisting of 2 young kids. I noticed a friendly guy with a new Pepsi near by, the kids kept running past his table, I mentioned nice watch! He responded with nice children, it put everything in to perspective.
Met a fellow senior couple at a farmers market in California and he had a University of Alabama championship football ring. We started talking football until I noticed his patina’d Omega Speedmaster moon watch, original owned. Guess where the conversation went.
As someone that tried but couldn't have kids I know where this guy is coming from. My dog and my watches have become my children...

I never regret watching one of your videos! Yes, I agree on all 10. Had an Omega Seamaster 50th anniversary that someone bought off my wrist. He offered me a very nice amount when he saw it and I have missed that watch ever since. Thanks for posting these and be safe!!
Had friends over, (the husband’s also into watches). We all started looking for photos of our kids on our phones. Next thing, ladies are showing the kids to each other and me and the other guy are scrolling through our watch photos.
Hahahaaaa, I'm guilty of so many of the things you've listed, we all really do have this passion for our watches but it's cool to be able to sit back, watch this and have a laugh at ourselves, great stuff!!

These were all so “that’s exactly me!” Except for the Art piece. That was a new outlook for me, and it’s very true. Another fantastic video.
I work in the pub in Kensington.Everyday behind the bar is like a watch exhibition 😂 So true.Love it.
Dont forget this looking on the watch every ten minutes not to check the time but to spot the watch.
Dont forget this "needing" a separat watch for every different occasion (wedding, dress, gardening, vacation on the beach, vacation in the hills, salty water, sweat water... you get it).
Dont forget this changing the watch twice a day because you have so much and want to wear them all...

Then there are all the hardware ocd, like when the second-hand are at 12, the minute-hand HAS to be exactly pointing at the index. The date has to change VERY close to midnight. And you try-out numerous watch-positions for the night, to make the watch be as precise as possible . . . . .and so on 😁
Great intro! I see watches everywhere...Supermarket, restaurant, walking out on the street...To the point where I don’t even look at a person’s face first I look at the wrist…
11. We look for a reason to engage an interesting-watch-wearing stranger in casual conversation, so that we can ask about his watch and show him ours, preferably without appearing a total berk.
This is a good one, and Yes I'm guilty.
Another odd behavior some fanatics have is wearing more than one watch during the day. Mr Wonderful has admitted to wearing a different watch in morning, afternoon, and evening. I do the same...definitely not something a normal person would do. I haven’t yet committed the sin of simultaneously wearing a watch on each wrist (except for the Apple Watch.......it’s not really a watch...it’s a semi phone).
Am so guilty myself of most of these traits. But I always remember different strokes for different folks.

Great points. Guilty on most of them, specially sales regret & watch spoting. And yeah, that Rolex hate, you're so right. Is hard to find a post on Rolex groups hating other watches, but on many other groups usually you find the Omega SM300 guy hating rolex or the GS spring drive guy hating it too. Personally i love Rolex because i find on it disciplines that i follow (History, Art Design and Engineering). Stay safe!

Great to see you well and keeping safe. Never thought of watches from an art perspective. You are correct, it’s my art form. My latest purchase is Omega Moonwatch with exhibition case. I look at the back more than the face as the engineering is exquisite. One thing I like very much about this piece over my other watches is the simplicity of use. No date, no hacking seconds. Wind, set and forget.
This is my first manual wind watch and I love the feel of a connection when I wind it before wearing.
The reason I buy watches is two fold. I like the story behind the name and will it fit me. I’ve an 8” wrist. 40mm> look like ladies watches on me.

Great video man ! You nailed it . I can truly relate with you when it comes to spotting watches in the public or movies . It’s weird how watch people can recognize each other - even if you sometimes stare at someone’s wrist , you get the distinct feeling they don’t mind because they want you to share the joy .

I have always been a car freak and can pick a brand and model from a mile away. Now that I'm into watches I do the same thing and try to name every watch I see.

I think some people can get scoffy over quartz, some cheap quartz is understandable, but for some it's perfectly valid as people have meaning invested into these watches like any mechanical ones.
I have a quartz watch my parents gave me when they got married several years ago and whenever I wear it, I do so proudly because of what it means to me and them 👍
Every watch has a place and quartz movements actually make a lot of scenes for certain watches. Nothing wrong with a quartz watch. Both quartz watches and mechanical watches should have a place in a collection. And James as you pointed out the feelings and memories you have with the watch are really what makes it special.

I enjoy my quartz and solar watches and don’t compare them to my automatics. Nice to grab and go without setting the time. Plus they’re super accurate and I buy them because I’m attracted to them.

You’re so spot on especially about adjusting to watch size. I typically go back and forth btwn a Panerai 422 and Rolex DSSD. If I wear the PAM for a few days straight and put on the Rolex, it looks super small but only for a few hours and vice-versa. And couldn’t agree more about buying a watch as a store of value (brand dependent of course). Been pondering the acquisition of a GMT Coke Fat Lady as my first vintage/pseudo-vintage watch as it should easily maintain its value and even potentially tuen into an investment.

As a man who owns a couple of pieces from rolex and grand seiko i can say that both brands are 'the best' for their price tier. But in very different ways! The best is what looks the best to your eye. Everything else is just opinion.
...Looking at one’s watch to find out the time, staring for a full 30-sec before looking away, then having to look back because you didn’t actually see the time!

Great video! I believe I have around 32 watches in my current collection, of which I keep telling myself I own too many watches. I go through binges where I’ll sell some that I fell I’m done with, then turn around a few months later and buy a few more that catch my eye. I’m definitely into the art aspect of a watch more than anything else. My big crazy is that when I’m home, I tend to change the watch I’m wearing, multiple time...like I can’t make up my mind on which one I want to wear the most. This morning, in the course of one hour, I went from an Axios Iornclad Batman to my Omega 300, to my Seiko “Ripley”, Giugiaro, which is the one I finally settled on. I’m sure many other enthusiasts do similar. Mike
I'm from the Boston area. There were many years I knew the Yankees had the better team... I just never said it out loud... LOL! A recently posted photo on the web showed Tom Brady signing his new contract with Tampa Bay. Guess what the first thing I noticed was... he was wearing an IWC!

Fair video, absolutely. Like others, I agree in that you’ve called me out and we’ve not even met 😂 I’d add that watch collectors change tastes over time but like fashion, we often come back to what we once loved. I’d also add that we constantly evolve our grail to be a few steps above our affordability bracket. I started collecting when I was on minimum wage, and soon bought my then grail. I then created a new grail, and got that. I have another now and whilst I don’t think I’ll get to it cough Lange Datograph *cough*, I feel my point is valid 😊

Watch guys who have a smaller watches always says they wear much larger. Guys with large watches always say that they wear smaller on the wrist. Apparently there are no watches that are too small or large. They all fit comfortably on the wrist?!

Checking them in the mirror is a necessary step, it shows us what OTHERS see. Too many size complainers bitch about a 36mm Rolex but.....looking at a modern one on the wrist shows how beautifully proportioned it is, and how good it looks on any wrist.
