So fanservice, I'm a bit older than what I guess is the target demographic for BLs, so I've always seen it as part of their promotion of a series they're in. I don't chase after it, but it pops up in my feeds. I don't know how the actors feel about doing it, and I really hope that isn't something they have to go through the motions of doing it. They always seem to be goofing off with each other, and having a bit of fun with it, so I always hope they are just having fun, and that they are friends with their onscreen partners.
Yeah, after been watching bl for years I've realised it's just fan service. In the beginning I was like why r they like this off screen too, I'm not a fan of it but yeah as u said it pops up. I just don't take it seriously and I think everyone needs to do that too
@@GopiPriya-ye2yr I get this. I've been a Kdrama fan for longer than I have been a bl fan so when I first got into it, I couldn't understand why they are automatically tied together and will have to work together and stuff, the fan service because post covid, maybe even now it wasn't really thing in the kdrama drama world and I was just like "ohh okay so this is how it is". I think it's affected by that, the Thai bl culture has kinda accustomed fans into the whole you and your co star will act together no matter what series you're in etc which feeds delusions....? If I can use that word, but the actors doing shows, fan services whatever they're doing is cool with me cause at the end of the day I'm a fan so why not😂, as long its comfortable for them too and don't have to feel like "I need to please the fans more by doing this and that so I can get popular" because at the end of the day I think it's their acting that truly makes an actor valuable.
@Vrisha_m yeahh totally agree with you, at first while watching different BLS with same couples I was damn confused I didn't know about this ship thingy and then got used to it. I'll watch whatever shows they do or events or anything, cuz I love the crumbs of everything 😀😀
Basic life acting? Such a grand aspiration and the 22 minute presentation ... best of luck in your endeavors since I've been able to view it, you as well as me are going to need it
Hi Perth. I am in the US, and a 77 yr old grandma. I think you are right on when you suggest that Thai BL actors are more like idols. I think that as the Western culture gets more ingrained in the bl industry, fan service as well as fan expectations will have to change. Tay/New just had a fan meet in the US and it seemed so much less of “service” and more of interview type format. I began watching bl because my trans grandchild wanted someone to watch it with him. The one thing I see that has come out of this industry is the impact on same sex marriage in Thailand. Sadly, my country has taken several steps backward since Trumps first term and now that he has been elected again, I fear for my grandchild’s safety. I enjoy your channel and have learned so much from you. Thank you, Sincerely, Sandra Claus, Colorado, USA. 🤟❤️🫶🏻
How sweet of you to watch bl with your grandchild. He must trust you a lot to want to watch it with you. I never felt safe to even tell my family I watch bl. You’re not only a cool grandma but also a safe space and that will help your grandchild a lot in life.❤
Thank you for being a positive presence. I hope your grandkid stays safe and healthy. He’s definitely not alone. A lot of us are worried, but we’ll keep fighting for and protecting each other as best we can. ❤
That's the sweetest. My grandma is supportive of me being trans too, but I couldn't imagine her watching BL/GL with me haha. Stay safe! Trans people don't have as much of a target on our backs here in the Netherlands as in the US. I am scared for you all.
As a fan, let's say I watched a BL and really liked the chemistry between two actors. Naturally, I'd be happy to see them together in other projects. At the same time, I don't like the idea of fan service, as it blurs the line between characters and actors. This is why many fans can't accept when actors from a 'ship' date other people in real life. Hopefully, in the future the situation will change for the better.
I agree ! I like to watch youtube comments while I watch a drama and for some I saw comments = "why did you do that, he is with X..." / "there is an error Y is with X "....so in real life it must be worse it's so sad =(
I don't watch BL but I do watch GL and I've seen some reddit threads point out the grey area of fan service. Mainly the possibility of developing genuine feelings for your colleague and how messy that can get... and it can get very messy😂😂
0:53 Fun fact: There is a BL expert. Dr. Thomas Baudinette. He is a senior lecturer at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. He studies BLs in an academic capacity and published a book about it too.
He views it from a more social impact, societal change, etc... Perth seems to want to give insight to fans. I can only think of chimon as example. The comparison perth talks about. Then many actor/performers are generally insecure.
It's bizarre - being from the UK, I had never encountered fanservice or ships until I came across Thai BL. It seems like a really strange concept to me, and I can totally understand the psychological impact it might have on an actor. I'm glad you've brought your thoughts up in such a constructive manner. Keep on speaking your mind!
yes, here in France actors are never in fan service. it doesn't exist. I was already surprised when I saw that actors were working together again. I hadn't yet seen the impact with the fanservice behind it. It bothers me because often it's not natural. I like to see shows where they are more natural sometimes. (often outside of their pairing) it's been almost 2 months since I discovered the world of thai dramas. only two months! Before I watched some Japanese dramas and there was a little less fan service. This is more common in music groups. sorry if I make mistakes I don't speak English well =)
Yes , Even in my country India I never heard about fan service because we don't have it here. . i first encounter it in Thai bl and thought they're real couple for sometime 😭lol
All you guys have totally seen fanservice; it just wasn't deemed as such. All of these actors looking cozy and chummy don't even like each other. Every industry in every country has fanservice. They're just being honest about it now.
I think this video is not only super important for fans, but it's a conversation that should be had with any budding BL actor before their shows air. I imagine the different aspects are all relevant to every single one, even if they differ from person to person, and to walk into a job and the potential fame (or not) that comes with it is so important. It's so hard not to hang your own self worth on the response a role or show creates and while it will probably always happen to some extent, it is incredibly helpful to know about these pitfalls before they occur.
I love what you share and your vulnerability. As a gay man who enjoys BL (I know your fans are mostly girls) I would love to ear your taughts on being straight playing gay, homophobia, lgbt stuff. Not so much the business side but the queer side. If you want too :)
I'd love to hear more about this as well. So many people in the United States are queer but play straight characters, and I'd like to hear Perth's thoughts about portraying nonstraight characters and the impact it's made in the Thai search for equal rights. Not to say Perth is an expert, just from his perspective.
I’m from the US and fanservice is not a thing for actors here. So it’s something that took me a while to understand when I learned about BL’s and the promotional work surrounding it. I understand it’s like an extension of that work and it’s not something I take seriously nor do I think it’s okay to ship real people. It’s sad how many fans don’t feel or act the same way and put so much of their fantasy onto these actors when all you are doing is your job. It’s insane how they stop seeing you as human beings and start thinking you owe them this fantasy just because you did a great job in telling a story and being a character. Thank you for speaking up and I hope fans become aware of how they can support in a smart and healthy way.
Your so right def not like that in the USA and I started watching some bl stuff this year but mainly because there isnt much here in the us. It is weird that the states is like public with pda and everything but thai they catch themselves holding hands in public and quickly undo it so its adjusting everything in their culture our culture. I have 3 kids and 2 are queer and I just hope they have the oppertunity to be happy with whoever they choose❤
It feels actually kinda reliving to hear and see someone say it like that, I mean find a BL Fan that isn't an Idol Fan as well.. I'll wait. And vice verca 😉 😉 especially for us who are away further and afar like legit oceans and continents. I fit wouldn't be for Kpop reaction channels I'd never ended up in BL/GL Thailand osmosis.
Indeed, this is a cultural difference. actually making fan service aims to get more money and it really makes a lot of money, because fan service can bring actors to fan meets in several countries, they can even get advertisements together, not to mention there are merch and other events, it makes a lot of money Again. For me, fan service is okay for me to follow but I never demand that they stay together, but if they really finish their work or can be said to "break up" I will stop following them, because why? because I don't feel it's appropriate to follow one of them, so it's better for me not to follow both of them (without leaving malicious comments). and I feel like fans don't demand bl actors to become official vessels after the series is finished, usually the agency makes it, as fans only accept what has been given. I think everything has advantages and disadvantages, just choose and run🥰
You did great explaining your feelings. It is good for people to understand what it's like for BL actors and what you go through. Specially as a straight person playing a role in a ship and how it affects your everyday life. Thank you! Take care!
As a queer bl/gl fan I have so many thoughts on the whole fan service thing and the obsession some fans have with ships/actors identities and how queerness of viewers (and differences in cultures) plays into that sometimes. It's so interesting to hear about it from the perspective of an actor compared to how I view these things from a fans perspective who is very active in bl fandoms so thank you for your honest thoughts! Always fun to watch your videos on the bl topics! Also definitely rooting for you on getting more roles. You deserve it!
There's no such thing as a queer that is a slur and LGB are waking up and fed up of all the fake labels put especially from straight girls that have hijacked our rights.
Hey Perth! Great video! I totally agree with you on how it’s sad that BL actors go through negativity when word gets out that they are in a relationship other than their BL partner. I find it sad. For example, Mile had to apologize to fans for having a girlfriend (that is correct, right?). As for fan service, I am in different with it or should k say I am neutral. Because like the example I gave, some fans think that because of the BL and fan service that the two are in a relationship which isn’t the case. Anyway, I would love to hear more on these topics. Take care!
Actually the analogy to being a singer works very well. Singers in a boy group will be more successful as a group, usually when someone goes solo they get less engagement with their music. I'm glad even the relationship thing is not affecting actors as much anymore. There are BL actors who are open in their relationship. Anyway, this was a great video once again, Perth! You always put your thoughts and experiences into words and making sure you get across what exactly you mean. Like I get you have to be careful with what you say because in your case, it could affect your and other's reputations. But it makes what you want to say pretty clear and I feel like I always get the vibe of what you're trtying to say. Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us
Important insight into the consequences of fame linked to a ship. I especially liked your example about every post being interpreted in the ship-perspective. Not being seen as an individual with a broader life then the ship. I am sure that messes with minds. Especially considering how young most bl actors are when they first start working and getting shipped.
I have so many thoughts about this. Most importantly thank you for taking the time to post this. I'm a bit older than the targeted bl demographic, so sometimes I don't understand the hype of fan service or I watch the characters/actors with a pleased smile. In terms of real life, you brought up multiple good points that I've definitely thought of. I admit to being guilty of shipping as well, but for me it's more like I'm still hooked on the characters, I'm sad the series is over, and I want more. Hearing your perspective does make me feel bad only because I failed as a fan to acknowledge an actor's personal feelings consistently. It's both a nod to one's acting and the plot line of a good bl. Your perspective needs to be told. As fans, we should support you. You are right about the solo work too. So many 'fans' lose interest because you aren't together with your ship and that affects actors. Your self worth shouldn't be/isn't dependent upon a bl partner, but fans still make actors feel that way.😢 For myself, I've actually started commenting things like "Those acting skills are fire. I got hooked on their character. I really want to see this actor in something else." Or "They're so good I really want to see them in xxxx type of role. I bet they would kill it." I try more often now to send positive affirmations about actors who act in bl about types of scenarios or characters I would love to see them in; not necessarily a future bl. I just want you to know that there are fans of yours out here that are like minded, that have noticed that potential toxicity in bl culture and try to verbally support/encourage you. And I'm also sorry for the times I've gotten carried away wanting to see you in another bl. You act well and I like how you embody your characters whether in a ship or not. Ram and Gemini are what made me follow you. This is long, but I hope you feel my sincerity.❤
i've always found it really weird when people get genuinely mad at bl actors for being paired up with a new partner for a series. like, it's okay to be disappointed that your faves aren't in a series together but whyyyy would you ever bring this up on the actors' social media or post hate comments etc, it's fully unhinged and frankly scary.
Literally same! Idk if you watched 4 minutes but it was pretty sad to see some of the BibleBuild fans from KinnPorsche posting hate comments about it just because Bible wasn't acting with Build and it was especially sad since Bible is such a good actor ,like I felt so bad because he is so talented but some fans just could not see anything beyond him in his most famous ship
The first time i saw p'perth in cutie pie the series.. Although it was a supportive role you nailed it.. Then again i saw you in Kinnporsche.. And then my engineer.. So i would like to say something to you that don't give up phi... You have true potential.. Maybe your time is not now...and you need to wait for the right time.. I'm sure you'll became more famous than now.. Don't forget to attend auditions for films or series...... Your face, your accent and acting skills and amazing.. ♥️♥️more and more support to you... I'm waiting for your day p'perth... Keep going
Perth, we appreciate your perspective! I think as BL fans get older, we have definitely gotten better at critical thinking. Im seeing a lot of people who ship a couple also be cognizant of supporting both people individually. On the other hand, just like in kpop, solo stans are a thing but as long as people dont go out of control, its natural to like one person more if they fit ones vibe. Also YES we would love to hear your POV more on the fanservice aspect and how it takes a toll mentally. Fans genuinely dont understand this one as much, i think. The shipping and fanservice is often treated as a toy by fans. Since the ship consists of 2 actors after all, i am sure that often they put up a front to do things for the sake of fans. But once they go home, them and their partner are likely exhausted.
Thank you again Perth for sharing your insight and your feelings. Your analogies were really great! You’re amazing and hopefully this video can spread awareness to fans as well as helping fellow actors feel like they are not alone in these feelings. 🥰🥰
The feeling of being 'left behind' and seeing people around you bloom while you feel somewhat trapped, happens to many people... although I guess it can be more overwhelming in the entertainment industry. Please, feel proud of yourself. You wouldn't have reached as high as you have if you didn't deserve it, which proves you're perfectly capable of doing an outstanding job. Plenty of people believe in you for a reason, please use this to convice yourself of how valuable you are.
It would be interesting to get your perspective on personal relationships for actors, kpop/jpop idols, etc. From my point of view it seems super difficult for celebrities to have a 'normal' life behind the scenes. I find that sad. Too many delulu fans. 😅
i always love listening to you talk freely about your life experiences so you can keep doing this kind of videos if you're comfortable with it. i think everything you said makes perfectly sense and i've seen these things happen with actors i follow or used to follow and i'm glad that over the years things are changing mostly for the better even if some bad things are still there and probably will always be
These discussion videos are great! We don’t often get such unfiltered insight into the experience of BL actors. I’d love to hear more about your experiences both as a BL actor and in general.
kind of different to what everyone's talking about in the comment section, but honestly, feel free to not really insert as many caveats as you do! I know you're trying to cover all bases and perspectives and stay away from generalising - I find that to be quite sad that you have to go to the lengths of clarifying EVERYTHING after each sentence (given how sensitive these topics might be I, for one, 200% understand), but I think your audience and subscribers are mature enough to understand that you're speaking on topics you feel confident or comfortable enough to delve into, and that obviously only applies to the locus of people you have been impacted by/befriended/spoken to. thank you so much for this really insightful video!!
Thank you very much for this (personal) insight into the job of an BL actor. You’re open minded, thoughtful and empathetic! Please don’t change! Have a wonderful life! Always looking forward to seeing you on screen😍
I am an older watcher. I came across my first BL unknowingly. I enjoy Asian dramas and just happened to come across Until We Meet Again on youtube. I was so impressed that we had finally gotten to a time when a gay couple could be the main characters in a drama. When I learned it wasn't in the same genre as other dramas I thought maybe we hadn't come as far as I thought. After watching more series it became clear why BL is it's own genre. I can understand fans enjoying the chemistry between the characters and wanting more seasons or series with those actors. However, I don't understand shipping them outside of their roles. I also don't understand fans wanting more series with ships when either one or both can't act very well, and each character they play is the same as the last. There are popular ships that keep getting roles because of popularity, and regardless of talent. You have the talent to portray each of the characters you play as unique individuals. It's hard not to compare a little when it comes to your profession. I do hope you put more stock in your acting ability, and not too much stock in others opinions. Be proud that if anyone put multiple clips of your roles together it would be obvious they are all different characters. For some others it wouldn't be so obvious.
I just want to quickly say that you seem like such a genuinely sound dude, Perth. No matter what may happen I hope for nothing but the best for you. Stay weird, it's fabulous 🫶
It’s nice to hear what it can be like in the industry. Thai BL are really at the top when it comes to fan service / ships and I’ve always wondered how the actors felt about it.
As a BL viewer, I appreciate the insight. It makes me feel compassion for what many BL actors may be going through. I enjoy watching BL content as so many are so well done. I look forward to seeing you in more awesome roles. Wishing you the best!❤
I think fans need to always remember that actors are people and need to have their lives respected, so whatever you do, be in a ship, solo work, fan service, just please respect actors as people! Thank you for your candor as always Perth, I'm really enjoying these videos!
I still endlessly love the way you talk to us. and we are grateful to you for how honest you are with us. not many people are capable of this. thank you. I understand everything you want to say. and I just wanted to say even if you ever have only one fan left, I'll be there. (but actually I want more people to see how amazing and sincere you are)
Ya we understand what you are saying about ship and about obsessive shippers...sometime they forget that actors are actor and human ,they have their own career ,personal life, choices and paths...but nowadays there are many understanding fans who is there to support their favourite actors individually and want to see them doing more projects...and It's ok to say philosophical things... because sometimes they makes more sense and logic than normal words
I think that it's pretty important to share those kinda thoughts, because usually we are stuck in our point of views and what seems like the unique truth or reality, and then something pops up (you doing this video for example) and then we get like : oh, ok, maybe I wasn't seeing this or that... But then it's a good thing because we adjust our point of view, and we get to care more about the different experiences of each person, and so we can try to build something more meaningful. I feel like sharing different truths, different perspective of life will actually lead to problems to be solved, so stay the way you are, and I find it so brave of you to speak about those "lame" feelings, you look really strong doing so, and more importantly, really real. Thank you, see you !
I think you're wonderful and I wish you the best in your career. Perhaps it's best not to look at all the likes on your Instagram posts. Someone famous once said that comparing yourself to others is the quickest way to depression. There is always others that will be so much more successful or popular. We just need to try and do our personal best.
I admire your way with words, Perth. Honestly, it’s so interesting to hear about this topic from your point of view, from the perspective of someone who has been in the other side of this complex ‘ship-fan’ relationship. We, as fans, can assume many things thanks to social media, but you’re taking us to a point of meditation, evaluating behaviors and actions that I think are important to study, to reflect on, so we can support the ones we like and prevent from hurting them in an unconscious way.
i love when you do this kind of videos. i think it helps us (the fans) understand more about the actors feelings and i really hope that BL actors could feel more comfortable to date and live their life.
i love so much that kind of videos because not that many actors talk about the career behind series so its always good to ear your personnal opinions !
Thank you for sharing! This is so refreshing to hear your perspective. This is a very important topic and I hope more fans are more understanding in the future❤
Thank you sharing and for creating the space for a discussion as some people can become quite hostile if you want to critique the industry. For me the biggest problem I have with fan service, is when the artists or company goes out of their way to make the actors appear to be a couple and when they’re caught with their real partner their then upset with the fans because fans are shocked. And yes there are some crazy fans that take it too far but they created an expectation. I appreciate theirs lives are private but when they were promoting the show they were happy to act like a couple. They don’t have to do it, the fans didn’t ask for it but they know it makes more money!! And fan service especially when they’re not gay is evenmore offensive. Just do normal promotion like all other movies or series, you don’t have to pretend to be gay. We have a few new actors that are setting their relationship status from the beginning but I hope they can do separate work from their partners as I fear their options may be become quite limited or if people don’t like the couple the fans may never get behind them. I also agree with the idol/actor vibe but I think that’s all because the career for bl actors can be quite limited so they try to maximise on all areas, but you also have those artists who want to transition into other areas such as music or fashion. I hope the industry will improve and the actors have options with bl or no bl roles as there are some fantastic stories and actors within the bl industry.
Perth,I love you fr. I could listen to you talking all day, it feels like talking with a friend, please more videos like this! I've always wanted to hear someone as an actor or idol talking about this kind of things that, are still like a "topic" which they're not supposed to talk about, unless they don't work at that anymore. Thanks to talk about this, I think it gives way more visibility. And for people like me, who loves shipping, this makes me think about all the industry and things like that. Again, thank you, I wish you the best! (I love your accent btw)
IMHO the one who should take the most responsibility of fans service and shipping is the studio/ production house. They the one who started this, they raise the standard through time in order to gain more audience hence more profits to them
Hi Perth. I'm glad you talked about this topic. Thanks for sharing the negative side of the job with us. Not many actors are so open about it. I hope to hear more about your feelings and thoughts behind the scenes.
I'm from the US and we had a studio system in the 1940s and 1950s where actors were paired up. Rock Hudson and Doris Day did many rom-coms together but no one ever suggested they were a couple in real life. This was way before anyone knew Rock Hudson was gay. In Thai BLs shipping often expands into fans assuming that the ship is an IRL couple and there have been very few that have ever definitively said that they are. That has to be a lot of pressure to still try and remain relevant to the fans but avoid having to lie to them. And maybe because BLs have been around for quite a while now I think the actors are already thinking about what will happen after even when they are first paired up. For example Zee Pruk has a pretty successful modeling career completely outside of his partner NuNew, and he also owns a clothing company although NuNew does often appear as a model for it. And NuNew has a fabulous voice and I think a pretty bright future as a singer. In fact NuNew is my entire car playlist. That's how much I love him, and I'm old enough to be his grandmother. I haven't seen that many BL's outside of Domundi, but I did see TharnType and it appears that Mew has been working towards a new career for years knowing that BL wasn't going to last forever. And even though it's been quite a while since he's been in a BL he still has 6.2 million followers on Instagram. So you can still get followers even after you leave the industry. And he has quite a few coals on the fire In any event. a modeling career, a singing career and a PhD an industrial engineering. Plus he speaks pretty good English at this point. So there is life after BL but it takes planning and being talented helps a lot.
Thanks for your insights, Perth. I've found so many of your videos about the BL industry to be informative and entertaining. I'm intrigued to learn more about the fan service experience from the actors' points of view, and I was wondering if you would consider making an interview-style video with one or two others willing to talk about their experience. I'm interested in hearing what it's like to be in a ship that includes a gay (IRL) partner and a straight (IRL) partner and how the partners negotiated their public behaviors toward each other. I realize that it might be difficult to do something like this in-person while you're in Japan.
People need to see the actor as 2 people : the character in the film/series and the person he/she is in real life. Of course the way fan service is presented nowadays, where the actor is both of them, makes that a lot harder. I think it makes you a better actor if you have different ships and pull it off. I don't need to see the same ship in another series unless it's a prequel or sequel. Of course I have some ships I really like(d) but I value an actor more if he can play in different ships and is able to create a chemistry with different co actors (which is normal in non bl, by the way!)
I loved hearing your thoughts and opinions on these topics Perth! I think it's incredibly important for everyone in the entertainment industry to discuss things like this. I feel as though it's easy for actors and fans to lose themselves in "social norms." Bringing light to these kinds of topics makes it possible for people, entertainers and not, to empathize with one another.
I thank you explain yourself very well there are going to be people who have bad things to say I think personally more BL actors need to talk about the toxicity of shipping personally I try never to ship the actors/idols shipping the characters together is 100% different then the actors together personally I hate the shipping thing because because of that and I'm not even part of the ship so I can imagine that thinking every single thing you do or saying connecting it to another person can be annoying. I think it's best when my favorite actors diversify their acting partners. personally in the long run I think fan service can be fun but when it's pushed to far where people get mad when two actors aren't together that's really insane.
I really appreciate your authenticity while speaking. You seemed a bit stressed as you delved into philosophical topics, but that is what made the video so engaging. Instead of just sharing "facts" about the BL industry, I found it fascinating to hear your personal reflections, especially since you've experienced those feelings and situations. Thanks for sharing, Perth!
Despite my name, I'm not really interested shipping or the whole fan service aspect of the BL business. Maybe because I'm a couple of generations removed from the target audience, I tend to concentrate more on the individual actors and stories and then look forward to what's next in their career. I hope that the actors can live their lives freely without being constricted by fans' imagined hypotheses about relationships. It feels good to know that you and Talay have maintained a good friendship that is lasting. Thanks, as always, for sharing your insights. 🙂
Посылаю тебе лучики любви из далёкой России☀️💖 (Perth, you are truly a wonderful actor and person, I watch every video of yours with joy and thank you for always being open with us. Sending you rays of love from faraway Russia☀️💖)
Ello Perth! Thank you so much for talking about this topic and trusting us with your thoughts. As a fan I appreciate you discussing this so that I can be a better fan. I've been watching BL for over a decade and have noticed, in my opinion, that Japanese and Korean BL actors they have a ship in the show and then its done, but with Thai actors its a ship that goes beyond that single show they made which to me is so interesting but also odd because like you said, all of a sudden these two actors have their livelihood, to an extend, connected to each other. I discovered you in Porsche (I think that was the name of the drama T_T) And I love the way you showcased emotions, also really love Jeff Satur, out of all the actors in that particularly show, you two are the ones I still follow and have made a connection with. I love the fact that you are just a massive nerd who happen to be an actor and wish to do the best that I can, as your fan, to make sure that you have a livelihood and can have a smile on your face, same thing with Jeff Satur, I love the music he makes and think he's genuinely a musical genius so as his fan I want to support him the best I can, even if that means that all I can do is share both of your stuff, hit that like button and comment to help the algorithm then nerd with my friends about you guys to hopefully get you more fans. Its sad to think that all production looks at is the number of followers and engagement though I can understand where they are coming from, personally, I love the way you act, I think you are really good at expressing yourself with just your eyes and you can go from acting as a villain to a very sweet and innocent character, I am also super bias toward your accent. For Fan Services, I am from the older generation and while I am good with just that unbutton shirt scene or just my ships looking at each other, I personally feel that it should be left to the actors how much they want to do, so if Talay and you are the type that hug or tease each other then that's fine but you two shouldn't feel like you HAVE to act super close, just to use your example. If you are comfortable doing more of these videos, I'd love more of them where you share your thoughts with us (uhh also, what's your IG? I didn't even know you had one, mate T_T) I'd be curious to know what are the rules regarding relationships based on your experience and how do you navigate through dating and being an actor, again, if you are okay with sharing that with us. Thank you again! I should be getting a job soon which means I can finally start supporting you more☺
Hi! I always love to hear about your experiences! I have also noticed the difference between Japanese and Thai BLs. While I appreciate the Thai Marketing Genius(TM) behind establishing a strong acting pair, I have seen how some actors struggle to establish solo careers or success with a new partner. As a fan, I love the comfort of starting a new Thai series with actors I already know and love. On the other hand, I also enjoy the excitement of tuning into a Japanese series with a completely unknown quantity. I am glad you brought up how being in the industry effects your personal life. I am American (for context) and it has always bothered me that actors can't have their own lives and relationships outside of the roles they play. I love and respect all of you guys and my heart breaks that the industry and fans seem to have such a chokehold on your personal lives (which I personally view as none of my darn business). The CHARACTERS are the ship, friends, not the ACTORS!
Hi...I've watched a number of your videos and I appreciate your insights, honesty, and your loving personality. As a 71 year old retired university professor I'm amazed at your communication skilss.God Bless Perth.
Thanks for sharing, it's always nice hearing from you and giving us an update on what's going on in your world. It seems like there are a lot of high and low and adjusting I think you're doing great.
Thank you Perth for your insights, it’s really interesting to hear your perspective. I always sensed the comparison thing between actors of a ship and it’s really frustrating, because I wish they didn’t have to deal with that. Every person and every artist has their own worth, pace and path, there’s no need for comparisons. I think that fans follow what the industry offers to them, so if something doesn’t work it needs to be changed from the inside. Fans’s reactions depend on what the artists or agencies promise to them from the start. I also think that some actors take advantage of the fact that fans are going to misinterpret their words because they want the engagement, otherwise they could be clear about their words and actions, but they keep going until it’s not worth it anymore and then it becomes the fans’ fault. Obviously this is a generalization and I don’t condone any delusional behavior from fans. Fan service needs to be treated as entertainment, not as reality.
Very good insights, Perth. Kudos for a very intellectual approach to your discussion. It's very informative to know this kind of perspective from the BL actor's point of view. It makes people, in general, understand the dynamics of being in the industry. It would be nice if you could also intellectually interview an avid BL fan/shipper to see the flip side to understand why some, if not most, shippers make such pairings/ships their reality.
I am in the target age of fan-service thing and I did ship some people like obsessively. But, now I feel like both me and the BL industry has grown up a lot as I just enjoy some BL moments as "just a moment, not the real life" and BL actors seem like they're just enjoying themselves these days. So, I agree with you. I definitely think I get to know a lot more insight of this after listening to you. Thank you, Phi Perth. I really like listening to these kind of discussion videos.
Your point (as exemplified by my new favorite ship TreeStick) is something I've thought about a lot, and always felt uncomfortable when seeing people post stuff like that. I would deeply hate if people were overanalyzing everything I did to fit into their idea idea of me, and I know that kind of thing can really negatively impact the relationship the two people in question _do_ actually have
I completely understand you Perth. With the social media part, as an artist it’s quite the same thing: comparing yourself to others artists with likes, followers and reach. I try not to but it’s rather hard because I haven’t grown in quite a while. And I’m sorry you guys and everyone else in the entertainment industry deals with things like this. As well as stalkers and other rude “fans”. Thank you for the video. We love you much!🧡🧡🧡
Thank you so much for sharing such personal experiences. It allows viewers to see BL actors not just as the characters they play, but as real people with their own thoughts and emotions, which can be even more interesting than what we see on screen. I wish you good luck and amazing roles! I really enjoyed watching the series you were in, and I look forward to seeing you in new roles and future projects! ❤😊
Great commentary of thoughts and perspectives experiences of life. Please continue to express yourself because there are viewers like myself that enjoy good deep conversations. Thank you from Florida.
Thank you so much for making this video. I have so many questions about the culture of BL, the way it is perceived, and the influence it has not only within different countries but also the different demographics of people within a country. This video helped garner some insight, especially with mental health (which is one of the most important things you have), that the actors might struggle with. I think it is hard as a fan to understand the other side of the industry because what we see is an illustration of what the industry wants us to see, business relies on revenue. Since fans don't see beyond the "shiny glass" (shout out to your air quotes) the perception is that actors are not fallible. In a way, they are not real people, unless they are with the person that they are deemed as, to an extent, being worth the attention because of. I have great admiration for actors who work within a specific genre of the industry because I feel they are then viewed as only having that range of abilities, and that view diminishes the time and effort put into the cultivation of their craft. I hope that within the culture of bl, there is support and that support has enriched your experience within the industry. I admire your acting abilities in ‘My Engineer’, based on your character being someone that is reserved to the extent where conversing is not a comfortable part of socializing. Portraying a character, in a way that fans will connect with, while not, for the most part, being able to speak, shows an incredible amount of talent, bringing back a very facial and body language-based Charlie Chaplain-esq style. I hope you will continue to share your experiences, and I hope this video, and future videos, in some way is cathartic for you.
Hi Perth, thank you so much for sharing your experience and thoughts, as a former actress in Asia, I always love and appreciate your words and your point of view so thank you ❤❤ stay safe!
idk what it is about perth's videos, but they always cheer me up. and i feel really connected to the things he brings up as a human being like worrying about things out of your control and thinking 'could i be doing more?' it is very important to say 'don't focus on the things out of your control, focus on the things you can control!' it is a good advice
I really love hearing about your experiences as an actor. Hope to see you in more projects in the future! I like fan service in the same way I like the shows they're connected to, as a means of entertainment to be enjoyed in good fun, provided of course that the actors are actually comfortable and also having fun. I would never want them to be uncomfortable for the sake of fan service. Nor do I feel I'm entitled to know their personal life. If they choose to share they are actually together then that's awesome. If they choose to share they're happy in a relationship with another person entirely, that's also awesome. If that person happens to be an actor too I would love to see them together in a series, but I would also support them continuing with their original ship partner.
Super interesting! As a fan I try to engage in a polite way with actors in social media/comments as well as in fandoms. I'm worried about how fanservice might impact on actors ;;. You expressed everything quite clear. Some of my thoughts were confirmed (like how social media or working in duos might affect actors' mental health). I look foward to watching videos on any of the topics you mentioned in themention
I really appreciate these videos of yours, and how you're willing to be genuine in them. You always sound quite insightful and I really enjoy getting your perspective on things.
i think the ship only happens excessively in Thailand because companies pair the same actors consecutively at the start and that created a whole fandom, its very similar to kpop idol culture
Hi Perth! Thank you for sharing. Its really nice to hear your perspective and see that you are doing well. Keep up the great work and can't wait to see your content from you. Cheers!
I think I comment this in almost every one of your videos, but I truly enjoy these! I really appreciate your honesty and openness on this topic. As someone who has always recognized that the fan service directed at BL actors is just that-fan service-I’ve never found it particularly appealing. I’ve always been much more curious about the "real" aspects and the behind-the-scenes workings of it all. That’s why I’m so grateful for the videos you’ve been creating for a while now. They really provide such valuable insights! So, thank you for that!
I would just like to say you are really well spoken, I have only seen your work in kinnporche, but like the way you speak and express yourself is really captivating and endearing.
I loved this video! You said a lot of things that I’ve always thought about, but it was nice to hear it all put together. I definitely agree that fanservice has changed over the years, and I think that’s great. Before, it looked forced a lot of the time, and they made the actors eat the same thing to get close to each other, etc. Now you can see that it’s much more relaxed, and it’s more like teasing and flirting. But, for the most part, it’s up to the comfort level of each pair, and I think that’s great. ❤
I just finished watching, I had to pause a couple days back because of work. Speaking of work... listening to you talk about the ups and downs, peaking early and then always chasing that. I can sort of relate with a completely, totally different line of work (I'm an electrician). One thing I've learned is the importance of not making work the absolute most important part of your life. I was doing this for a long time and it started to eat me alive! Happiness starts with your personal life and work is secondary. It took me a LONG time to learn this. Don't let the ups and downs of your work life rule everything. BTW, myself and my husband can't wait to see you in your next series. We have no doubt it'll happen
I'm glad you shared this perspective because a lot of ppl need that perspective coming from the source so that it can kind of shake ppl out of their expectations of things they see as facts that aren't. That was needed. Far as fan service when i found it was a thing, i was confused a bit because i was always like... huh fan service? You mean skin ship?🤔 Why is everyone calling this fan service? Lls but then over time i got where they were coming from but to me i can still tell them apart. I hope that this vid reaches a everyone because its so refreshing to hear this side of it and clarifies a lot without needing to say a lot. Thank you.
I’m so glad you made this video because I was thinking about this recently, with some BL actors finally going public with their relationships. It just seems like it must be very hard mentally to feel like you can’t be honest about your life because you are so closely tied to another person. It does seem that is changing somewhat, but still definitely exists. Also, the fan base pushes a lot of drama on these actors that must get really frustrating to deal with. It seems hard on the mental health side of things.
I'm a geminifourth fan here watching this made me feel so many things i know their bond is real and i don't mind if they are in a relationship or not but those shipping culture in thailand is so bad that they always skip the lines i mean the way you said ' someone's dog died so they said i miss you" but people gonna assume that it's about their ship... also the solo career part i can feel cause all i can see people dividing into two fandoms and and even some are not even supporting one of their work....always comparing them ....who's better , who don't like the other one .... i mean they are the same age having fun together why this much hate? being in a bl ship made them famous and i just know when they start working solo it's gonna be hard for them but if one truly loves the ship they are gonna be their side forever. love geminifourth so much hope they stay together like this although having this toxic work environment .....
@@ACWhoCares2 I questioned the target audience part too cause I'm 26 and would like to know😭
@Vrisha_m yeahh totally agree with you, at first while watching different BLS with same couples I was damn confused I didn't know about this ship thingy and then got used to it.
Thank you,
Sincerely, Sandra Claus, Colorado, USA.
Dear lady, I have nothing but the utmost respect for you. Your grandchild is the luckiest person in the world with you by their side.
That's the sweetest. My grandma is supportive of me being trans too, but I couldn't imagine her watching BL/GL with me haha.
Stay safe! Trans people don't have as much of a target on our backs here in the Netherlands as in the US. I am scared for you all.
Agree, im terrified..but i feel like something is going on behind the scenes..the numbers aren't adding up .
I hope you get many more acting roles, no matter what genre.
I agree ! I like to watch youtube comments while I watch a drama and for some I saw comments = "why did you do that, he is with X..." / "there is an error Y is with X "....so in real life it must be worse
it's so sad =(
If the fandom mentality changes then the industry will change.
100% agree
@@PB-qe6ce i don't think it will, it's hard to change that. Up to the industry to do that.
Oh that is so interesting!
pfft I'd think the real experts are the ones living it or not?
He views it from a more social impact, societal change, etc...
Perth seems to want to give insight to fans.
I can only think of chimon as example. The comparison perth talks about. Then many actor/performers are generally insecure.
Oh, yes i've seen his book in play books recommendations.
Wait lol I go to that uni. How have I not heard about this dude?
This is more common in music groups. sorry if I make mistakes I don't speak English well
=)
Good idea!!.
Thisss
When did he say he is straight? I’m asking normally.
I'd love to hear more about this as well. So many people in the United States are queer but play straight characters, and I'd like to hear Perth's thoughts about portraying nonstraight characters and the impact it's made in the Thai search for equal rights. Not to say Perth is an expert, just from his perspective.
@@harvestmoon_autumnsky exactly!
Well said!!.
Are you kidding? So many fake pairings and couples...
I love the honesty of this video. Please keep talking about these topics
I love Perth, he always tries to keep it real with us. I really appreciate that💗
It would be interesting to get your perspective on personal relationships for actors, kpop/jpop idols, etc.
Boundaries boundaries boundaries. Uphold them no matter how much pay at stake. Not upholding them destroys you in ways the pay wouldn't help
kind of different to what everyone's talking about in the comment section, but honestly, feel free to not really insert as many caveats as you do!
I really like this honest video, it's good to hear this perspective as a fan
It’s nice to hear what it can be like in the industry. Thai BL are really at the top when it comes to fan service / ships and I’ve always wondered how the actors felt about it.
As a BL viewer, I appreciate the insight. It makes me feel compassion for what many BL actors may be going through. I enjoy watching BL content as so many are so well done. I look forward to seeing you in more awesome roles. Wishing you the best!❤
You are so wholesome and refreshing ❤
I think fans need to always remember that actors are people and need to have their lives respected, so whatever you do, be in a ship, solo work, fan service, just please respect actors as people! Thank you for your candor as always Perth, I'm really enjoying these videos!
thank u for sharing all ur experiences! i feel like i could listen to u talk for hours 🥹
God, I love the unhinged commentary on the side. It just makes the conversation more digestible. Let's get those future roles! Fighting!!♥
I am now shipping Tree/Stick. The ultimate BL couple 😂😂😂😂
I think you're wonderful and I wish you the best in your career. Perhaps it's best not to look at all the likes on your Instagram posts. Someone famous once said that comparing yourself to others is the quickest way to depression. There is always others that will be so much more successful or popular. We just need to try and do our personal best.
Thanks,as a person with depression it made me think.
Thank you for talking about this. More people need to understand. Keep doing what you doing ❤ thank you
i love so much that kind of videos because not that many actors talk about the career behind series so its always good to ear your personnal opinions !
This is really valuable to hear about, thanks for sharing
They the one who started this, they raise the standard through time in order to gain more audience hence more profits to them
But it's sad how influential minds of fans are, we are supposed to have an inner voice that knows that fan service is cringe
I appreciate your insight as an actor on the BL shipping culture. Great video and lots of food for thought. Well done!
I think, this video should be a part of “do you want to be a BL actor” seminar. Guru Perth is spitting the facts ❤
(Perth, you are truly a wonderful actor and person, I watch every video of yours with joy and thank you for always being open with us.
Always fascinating to hear your unique perspectives on things. It's such a strange industry.
Great job as usual. I always enjoy your take on this industry. My thoughts, prayers love and respect to you, my friend.
So brave of you to say all this and always being respectful to everyone🙏🏻💗
Your videos are always so insightful. I love watching your honest take on these topics.
We love you much!🧡🧡🧡
Many things b.t.s you did wonderful adressing and talking about your observations and thoughts what a great video thank you
Thank you for this very introspective video. 💕 You always express yourself in a way that is so thoughtful & easy to understand.
Perth, I love how articulate you are with explaining your perspective, keep being your amazing self 🫶
Hi Perth, thank you so much for sharing your experience and thoughts, as a former actress in Asia, I always love and appreciate your words and your point of view so thank you ❤❤ stay safe!
idk what it is about perth's videos, but they always cheer me up. and i feel really connected to the things he brings up as a human being like worrying about things out of your control and thinking 'could i be doing more?'
it is very important to say 'don't focus on the things out of your control, focus on the things you can control!' it is a good advice
As always, thank you so much for the wonderful insights and perspective! Sending you much love 💜
Perth, your video completely makes sense. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.
The most truthful conversation in 2024. Thanks a lot ! Wishing you the best love from the state
Lots of good points. It's great to hear your perspective. Thanks for sharing.
It is amazing to hear your thoughts!!!! Thank you so much. You are brave
