Hey Guys! In this video Luke Ishikawa Plowden from GMM and I talk about our experiences working as foreign actors in the Thai entertainment industry. It includes stories such how we got our start in the industry, our experience learning the Thai language and acting in Thai TV shows.
It's my second time having a guest on the channel so I was a bit nervous. I've been wanting to make some podcast style/interview/discussion type content for a while so I'm really excited to be posting this video. Hopefully will have some more videos like this coming soon. "It's not about saying something with the perfect grammar or using all the correct words; it's about getting across the message that you want to get across." YES! This is 100% true and is my core, absolute #1 belief as a language teacher. Everything they're saying about learning a language is correct (though for English there's less need to interact with native speakers; fluency is what matters for English since there are thousands of varieties).

I am a Certified Medical Interpreter for Spanish (native English/French speaker) and I agree 100% with you. Any amount of a non-native language you learn makes you a more interesting person, gives you cultural competency, and gives you more opportunities in life. I also used to teach English as a second language to Vietnamese and Mexican people. Luke's point of not being afraid to open your mouth and speak the language is the first lesson I teach people. I surrounded myself with people that were willing to correct me when I said something incorrectly.

1:01:19 A interesting thing about this is that, as a foreign fan from Brazil, it was much easier for me to connect with Perth than with many other fully Thai actors. I don't know exactly why, but I feel like it would be much easier for me to talk to Perth, maybe because we have more similar cultures. It's just that with completely Thai actors, I don't think I could have a conversation in English without being afraid of saying something wrong and offending them in some way. Which it's a thing that I don't really think that could happen with Perth. But anyway, I loved the video so much that even though it was 1am in Brazil, I couldn't stop watching, love from Brazil ❤.

They appear very mature and humble and extremely articulate. Luke Plowden is devastatingly handsome he reminds me of a K-Pop idol. The world is shrinking and there is more work for people of different cultures. Asian pop music and TV shows and Movies are "cool' and are achieving success in the west like never before. It's encouraging to see the various cultures begin to blend and meld together. Perth and Luke are now very well placed to work in a number of markets being native English speakers and being fluent/proficient in Thai. Good luck with the careers going forward boys!

What a great conversation/video. I loved finding out more about your individual career paths - have enjoyed watching you both on TV/videos, and it's nice to see that you're also both interesting and fun people.. Loved the Jungle though I was a bit leery after watching the first episode!... but your character turned out to be pretty decent after all! Look forward to seeing more of both of you.

The advice for learninng language is spot on. Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!
Honestly, only was introduced to Luke through The Jungle because I took a chance on a non-BL with many of my fave GMM BL actors.
That being said, can't wait for your next show!!!

Well done! I'm hopeful that you'll do more of such videos! This one was so insightful for someone like me who is a relative newbie to the world of Thai drama.
I have to admit that I've been floored by the extent to which Thai actors go to provide opportunities for their fans to have access to them. On the one hand, as a fan, I lap up every opportunity to catch a glimpse of what kind of people my "ships" are, while at the same time I feel rather guilty because I feel I'm infringing on their privacy. It was somewhat reassuring to hear that paparazzi are illegal in Thailand, so in that sense, the actors we see in these videos have apparently consented to participate in these activities and are aware that there are lots of eyes and cameras focused on them. At the same time, it also helps me understand how some fans can become rather obsessive about their bias - previously, I found myself mystified that they could get so caught up in their adoration that they would feel as though they had been betrayed when their bias got involved in an actual relationship rather than remaining as a supposedly potential partner. I still don't understand such obsessiveness, but at least I have a bit of an inkling how it can develop.
Well, enough of my rattling on. Thanks again for making videos like this that explore different aspects of Thai culture, including the entertainment industry!

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this for how truthful and down to earth the conversation was and flowed. I appreciate the candidness of learning about the industry and having a career in it even though I don't want to be in that part of the industry myself and I work on the AV production side for corporate events its fascinating to hear how things go from an actor perspective! Thank you :)

somehow this video popped up on my YT feed while I was watching The Jungle and I immediately stopped the episode to jump into this. I hadn't had time to follow Perth's channel as much as I had been used to but I'm confident that this video is my most favourite (I do like other videos still, haha). Thank you Perth for another interesting topic, and shout out to Luke for being the 1st guest! x Love this so much!

I love this! Thank you for doing this collab and giving us an insight into your experiences and life in Thailand. I’m originally from Malaysia and have lived in the UK for 16 years. When you mentioned about how Thai people comment about your looks or weight etc. while Westerners don’t, I could so relate to that because whenever I go back to Malaysia for a visit, I have to be ready for the comments but not take them to heart 😂

dude, I'm not even Asian but I am mixed (half white american & half native american) and I love the conversation around cultural difference (34:47) especially about what Perth says around 39:44 because for me growing up in a small rural town that was mostly white, I didn't look like everyone else but then even being on the Native Reservation I didn't blend in there either. Mixed life can be hard and alienating sometimes.

I really like listening to Perth speak, 1 hour passed by like 20 minutes wow 😂 also I really like how perth's perspective of things in geral is really close to mine. Thanks for the advice on learning languages, I don't usually talk in english cause I'm afraid of committing mistakes and being pointed out but I will try more, even if I sound funny or wrong. Thanks, guys!!
