Just wanted to share with you that you’re hands down one of my favorite podcasters. The books you recommend and review have all been very worthwhile reads. It’s nice to hear the little snippets of stories that you share and last but NOT least, it’s always fun when Miss Tilly makes a cameo appearance. Thank you for what you do! ❤️
Thank you for putting together this list. I have just finished the second book in the wonderful Armand Gamache series by Louise Penny … very wintery. Two snowy books that I read and enjoyed in the past spring to mind, White and Sun at Midnight by Rosie Thomas.
Winter Solstice by R Pilcher is one if my all time favourite books to re-read! Elfrida & Oscar 😍 Also high on my winter reading re-read list in A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg.
I read Winter Solstice last year around this time because of your recommendation. It is indeed a lovely story. I just checked out The Winter Ghosts from my library. I’m looking forward to reading it. Thank you for making these recommendation videos.
Thank you for your recommendations. I just finished Winter Solstice and thoroughly enjoyed it. I purchased a used copy and will pass it on. You have a new fan.
We're only here for Tilly! Seriously though, I have discovered some stunning gems through your recommendations. Thank you. Your channel deserves to grow and grow.
Just found your channel, how wonderful. I used to read so much but in recent years, struggle to find the time. I’m keen to start again as reading is sheer escapism for me. Second hand books are very special in my view too.
You are such a joy to watch. Wanted to mention that one of my all-time favorite authors, Barbara Taylor Bradford, passed away at the age of 91 on November 24th. What a lady of "substance."
Goodness … The Nine Tailors. I read this decades ago but recently acquired an audio version, which I will definitely listen to now you’ve reminded me. Thank you ❤
For winter reads I would highly recommend The Ice Road by Gillian Slovo. Set in WWII, Leningrad, it focuses on the civilians she introduces us to prior to the seige and what they go through during that time and how they try to survive. I found it difficult to put down. Another good read for winter is A D Miller's Snowdrops. This is a psychological crime thriller set in Moscow in the 1990s.
Great list of Winter Novels. I've just read your first suggestion: The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L. Sayers. Really enjoyed it. It's style seemed quite old-fashioned, reminded me of some of the Sherlock Holmes novels. Made me realize how much the writing in more modern novels has changed.
What joy to have found you...just a day or so ago on my home page UA-cam feed, for reasons I'm not sure of. You, books, and Lily, and her happy "time for treats" dance. A universal 'ritual of dog'. It reminded me of my very best girl, Luna, a Black Lab. Regularly on our long and priceless walks and explorations, she had, "Treats for no reason!" or "Treats because you exist!" Somehow, those were the very best. Thank you for sharing your loves. 🙏❤
i have been trying to regain my love for reading for such a long while but then i discovered your videos. i, too love historical fiction and i began reading the light years on the computer. it is my first computer book. it is a spectacular read. i am hooked. i can't stop reading it and can't wait to read the rest of the series. thank you so much. so, so much.
The Winter Ghosts is a lovely book. I really enjoyed that one a few years ago. Might read it again this winter. My favourite book in the lead up to Christmas is Dickens' A Christmas Carol. I haven't read it for a few years. This year is the time I think. Another gem is The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. I've just discovered that I bought it in 2012 but I still remember it a lot. Jamaica Inn is a wonderful book. I would love to sit and read it in the wonderful Rising Sun Hotel/Pub in Lynmouth. It would be the perfect spot.
I love all of the Peter Wimsey stories, and the nine tailors are a favourite. I like to reread it every now and then, even though I clearly remember the solution. All of her stories are easy to read, but sharp and witty, and so “of their time” in a good way. A word on the Jamaica Inn for any Du Maurier fans planning to visit. It has unfortunately been ruined by owners wanting to make a fast buck from the many passing unsuspecting tourists. The inner walls have all been ripped out, as have all of the original fixtures and fittings. It now has a cheap, fake olde worlde feel to it. However, the book is well worth reading.
I recently read Pilcher's Winter Solstice on your recommendation last year. Thank you, thank you for the recommendation! Loved it! Now I am reading her book The Shell Seekers.
I'm so glad I found you! I love to read, and kind of hibernate in the winter, so having your list of books to read will make the nasty weather easier to live through! (I live in Wisconsin in the U.S. and we had our first snow yesterday, November 21st). I have read Jamaica Inn and actually was there! I lived in Norfolk for about 10 years, travelled that part of the country on vacation, and just had to find the Inn! Have a picture of it in my copy of the book. Enjoy your videos, and Tilly of course.
@@katydidiy Hi! From what I hear, we are in for some nasty snowstorms this winter. Guess I'll have to learn to hibernate, I'm not a fan of snow and cold....
Thank you for sharing this list. I started reading The Winter Ghosts by Kate Moses. It’s my first time reading her books. Absolutely loving it, the grieving theme is close to my heart. 🙏🏻
The Jalna books by Mazo de La Roche set in Canada - there are about 20 in the Series - are a great read. A family saga starting in the late 1800’s through to after WWII.
I have read Winter Solstice so many times. One of my top favorite comfort reads. Have you read Drumveyn by Alexandra Raife? I remember her writing style is similar to Pilcher, and I loved this book in particular.
Thank you Rosamunde! So glad I am online again. I've missed you! So hlad you suggested Jamaica Inn as I've thought for decades it was not set in England! I have Lovely Bones and never read it. Now sounds intriguing. I recommend for Winter a Maine writer, Van Reid and his Daniel Plainway or the Holiday Haunting of the Moosepath League, written in 2000, but set in Portland, ME in Fall/Winter1896. I really like the evocative cover. It uses the Pickwick Papers as scaffold. His delightful debut novel was Cornelia Underhill, set Summer 1896 and introduces The Moosrpath League.

Such a nice wintery list. I haven't read Jamaica Inn yet and I don't know why. I'll be changing that. I think sweet Tillie was embarrassed because you were telling on her. LOL. Winter Solstice also sounds very good.
Considering the authors on your list, may I recommend Angela Thirkell's 'Northbridge Rectory' written in the first years of WWII? Thirkell was one of the most popular authors of her time. If you prefer the 1930's, her 'Wild Strawberries' is another excellent choice.

I love Rosamund Pilchers book, especially Winter Soltice. I probably read it every winter along with The Harvester by Gene Stratton Porter. The last is a very romantic book and is from the early 1900's.
Hi Rosamunde, I enjoyed it so much as usual. And Tilly is her usual happy self. We had a surprise snowfall yesterday too. We were so surprised and it looked so pretty all day, but this afternoon it is changing into ☔️ rain. Your list sounds so good. I read Winter Solstice for the first time last year and it was my favorite of Rosamunde Pilcher’s books. It wags so cozy and I loved every minute of that read. 😊 Right now I am reading Her Fearful Symmetry, about Highgate Cemetary. I’m not too far into it yet, and it may be a bit strange but I will still enjoy the parts about the cemetery. Thank you.😊 Love to Tilly. ❤
Love your videos, Rosamunde, and have just read your book Out of Time which I thoroughly enjoyed. You appear to be on 9k subscribers already so well set for your New Year’s target. Right, I need to catch up on these winter novels, thanks for your excellent recommendations.
I haven't read A Week in December. But I loved Birdsong and have found all his books that I have read since have fallen short for me. I did enjoy On Green Dolphin Street.
Yes, love your videos ever since UA-cam recommended your channel to me! You've mentioned Winston Graham in a few other videos and I kept thinking "I've read something by him but what?" and it's the book Marnie (also a movie with Tippi Hedren and Sean Connery). It's quite an interesting story. Your pup Tilly is truly adorable! 💗💓💞
You are over 9k subs now. Just subscirbed and hope you reach your goal. I had the same view yesterday in Ohio in the US. Winter made itself known in style!
I read A Week in December and agree with you. In fact until you read the premise I couldn't remember much about it! However, Birdsong is a must read which will stay with me for the rest of my life. I must say though I was really, really disappointed with the BBC adaptation.
Lovely suggestions. I agree loved The lovely bones. The book and film both good. I'm watching to buy a book for a secret Santa. So definitely food for thought. I have no idea what to get the recipient so going to choose something from this video unless you have any other suggestions!
Just discovered your videos. I will have to check these authors out. ( I have read The Lovely Bones years ago…. It is a good book which has been made into a movie)

Snow falling on cedars by Guterson. Great for a cold gloomy winter weekend - snow optional but enhances the narrative!
Plus a lighter read is Christie’s Hercule Poirot’s Christmas.
Guterson's, 'Snow Falling On Cedars': a remarkable, & memorable read. Stayed with me, post-finishing, for some considerable time afterwards.
Successful movie adaptation. The soundtrack enhanced the mood tremendously ❤

So enjoy all your recommendations
Lovely suggestions. I agree loved The lovely bones. The book and film both good. I'm watching to buy a book for a secret Santa. So definitely food for thought. I have no idea what to get the recipient so going to choose something from this video unless you have any other suggestions!
I think most people enjoy reading books set in places they've been to, or somewhere they're planning to go. Perhaps that might give you some ideas?
Just discovered your videos. I will have to check these authors out. ( I have read The Lovely Bones years ago…. It is a good book which has been made into a movie)
Tilly is s gorgeous little furbaby😊 love your channel.
I do wish she would do an audiobook of The Lovely Bones. Lovely voice here. Please read me a bedtime story. 🥰
There is one on Audible, but don't like the voice they've chosen for it. :( They should have asked Saoirse Ronan to do it....
Great list of books. Have you read A Winter's Tale by Mark Helping? I enjoyed the movie but haven't seen it mentioned often.
Thanks for sharing your darling girl!! Gotta love the fur babies!😊
Live your reviews ❣️
Autumn to winter for sure!
Good to see you've reach 9k. x
Yes the winterlist is here🥰🥰.
Congratulations on passing 10K subscribers within a day of posting this vlog. 🎉
Thank you! I was truly amazed!
