It’s been a year since this review, and therefore a year since your mother died. My heart goes out to you. Grief morphs and changes, ebbs and flows. But it stays. So my thoughts are with you.

Hello Rosamunde, condolences and lots of strength in this difficult time dealing with the passing of your mother. In this age of technology it's very refreshing to find a channel about books. I'm 61 and love children's books. I recently discovered the Mistmantle series, Eragon series and the wind in the willows. Just captivating and hard to put down. 😊 Loved to see your companion Tilly. I have a dog named Zoey and she helps me thru a lot too. Pets are the best. Hope you will have a nice Christmas and stay healthy. Evelyne

My son loved the Eragon books when they came out. He and my late father used to read them and talk about them. When I was decluttering, he asked me to keep them until he has a permanent place of his own. So he might be surprised, at the age of 29, to find the latest in the series among his Christmas presents!

@@Old_Scot thank you for the reply. That's a wonderful idea. I just bought the latest too. These books are very captivating. Once you start reading you can't stop Same with the mistmantle books. I'm reading the second book from Eragon now. Many more to go! Have a nice Christmas. I'm sure your son will have a very nice Christmas. 👍🥰

I usually read Little Women this time of year, also. Currently I'm going through it with my 14 year old daughter. And can you believe I've never read the Narnia books!!??!! I'll be reading A Christmas Carol soon and yes, my favorite film version is the Alastair Sim one, as well! I'm so sorry you've lost your mother. I lost my father at the beginning of 2022 and it's been a roller coaster of emotion. I'm glad you're making videos, even in the midst of it. Having this way of encouraging others really helps me process through all the "stuff". Shalom.

Thank you so much. I am sorry about your father - mine passed away suddenly in 1994, and it was the worst time, so I really feel for you. My mother was 99 - but it is still a big loss, so thank you for your kind words.

Little Women is my ALL TIME favorite book. I read it when I was 10 or 12. I re-read it every 2 yrs. I grew up in Lexington, Massachusetts which was next to Concord where L.M. Alcott lived and wrote Little Women at Orchard House. I have been in that home many, many, many times. Fantastic area to live and grow up in. A Christmas Carol is my favorite Christmas story. Thank you, enjoy your channel😊

Thank you for including Winter Solstice. I re-read it every November, and now have several family and friends doing the same. Even my husband liked it. (Despite not having explosions😅) She's an amazing writer. Her stories seem so heartwarming and simple, yet are deceptively complex. Thank you for your channel.

Jan Karon’s Mitford series has a book called Shepards Abiding. I think the whole series is awesome. This book takes place at Christmas. Maeve Binchys book A week in Winter is a good one for this season. Thank you for your recommendations. Most I have read, but there are some new ones I will try. 📖📖

Sending you light and love as you navigate the waters around the passing of your mother. This was a great video! I teach Little Women in my Women Authors course, and it's such a wonderful Christmas read. Narnia is also a wonderful collection! A favorite of mine are the recollections of Christmas and Winter in the Laura Ingalls Wilder set.

Hello! I live in Cornwall and have just stumbled across your UA-cam channel and find it utterly delightful! How wonderful that you have so many original copies of classics from your childhood, I am quite envious as I don’t have any although I mostly read Famous Five and Georgette Heyer! You are inspiring to read older books I’ve not looked at for decades! My heartfelt sympathy on the anniversary of your mother’s passing! It is the 10th anniversary of mine, thinking of you.

Hello. I am a new subscriber from south Florida. Although we do not have winter in the northern sense of the word, we definitely have a winter season if one pays attention. The wind blows differently, the birds are different, the light is different, everything is, really. So, I read wintery books too. I’m just finishing Winter Solstice and have enjoyed it very much. I am so sorry for your recent loss. I know it’s very hard. I would also like to say how much I enjoy your videos. They are cozy and warm, and I feel so happy as a viewer.

I just now found you. I’m very sorry you’ve lost your mother recently. My thoughts are with you as you grieve and have to attend to all the details. Winter Solstice is one of my favorite books. I haven’t seen the black and white movie of A Christmas Carol in a very long time and will look for it. Sad to say I grew up in Florida so no winter much at all. Now I live in Charlotte, North Carolina so we have a light snow every 2-3 years. I can tell you are going to be a favorite. I hope you have a good holiday with fond memories of your mother, and only brief spells of sadness. ❤

I have read the Narnia books and all the Tolkien books, as you said “countless times” in the last sixty-five years, starting at about age 9. Currently again deep in Tolkien, actually Cristopher Tolkien’s legacy series on the history of Middle Earth. Mr. Bliss and Farmer Giles of Ham are some favorites of my grandchildren, who are our third generation of Lewis and Tolkien readers.
I am looking forward to many of your suggestions. I wish you a very blessed Christmas; thank you for bringing this joy-of-reading gift to us in your own time of loss. That is true giving.

Thanks for reminding me of Little Women, I haven't read it for many years so it'll be lovely to pick that one up again (it always makes me cry too!). Every Xmas eve when I was younger, my father had a tradition of reading us all a ghost story from M. R. James. I simultaneously looked forward to it and dreaded it! But he was entertaining and theatrical enough in his delivery to make it a little less frightening and a little more fun.

I just found your channel. I really enjoyed your book suggestions. There were a couple I haven't heard of or read, so I'll be getting those. Also some that are old favorites of mine also. I'm a 73 year old woman, living in an assisted living facility in Oklhoma. I live in a one room studio apartment that is quite nice. So, I have lots of time to read. I've been an avid reader since I was a child. So I'm very happy to have come across your channel. I also wanted to tell you that I'm very sorry about your mother. I lost my 27 year old grand daughter a couple of months ago and my best friend that lived next door to me in here, died last Tuesday. It's hard to try.to do Chriistmas while you're grieving. It's hard enough at any time, but it seems especially hard at Christmas. Anyway, just wanted to say hello. I look forward to seeing more programs of yours in the future. Lynda

Hi Lynda - thank you so much for your lovely comments, and I am so sorry about your recent losses. These are really difficult, and it's very important to be kind to yourself and just be and do how you feel. I have hardly begun to think about Christmas - and I think it's going to be a very quiet and low-key one this year. And that's fine. All the best to you.

Hi Rosamunde. I've just discovered your channel, and loved your recommendations. I just got a new copy of Little Women this year, so I might take it off the shelf - I don't think I've read it since I was a wee girl. I'm currently reading Murder On The Orient Express - another winter classic.
I love your two favourite filmed versions of A Christmas Carol as well. Alastair Sim's version is, of course, the classic, but in our house, we watch The Muppets Christmas Carol every year! 🌲
And finally, please accept my condolences on your bereavement. 💛

My sympathy on the loss of your mother. I lost my mother in 2016 at 91, my brother at 67 in 2018, my father at 97 in 2020, and my fiance last Christmas. I think I would like to read the Narnia books again, but I moved last year (can you say "stress?") and am still living out of boxes, and can't find them. I think I am going to read Rosamunde Pilcher again. The Winter Ghosts sounds like something up my alley. I loved reading books with my father, and he found Light on Snow in my TBR pile, enjoyed it, and passed it onto me. I also have other Anita Shreve books in my bookcase. That's a cool copy of A Christmas Carol. I also loved the book Heidi, talk about snow! The movie with Shirley Temple left a lot out. I love your dog. I send you wishes for a very merry Christmas from Connecticut, where we definitely DO get real winter!

Have only just had your channel appear in my suggestions. Condolences on the loss of your mother- always think it brings a great change in your life when this happens. Agree with you about Muppet Christmas Carol. Read all the Chronicles of Narnia and another favourite for a Winter/Christmas read from childhood is A Box of Delights. Read Winter Solstice a while ago will have to revisit it. At Christmas I usually find myself re-reading the various Miss Read Fairacre books of Village Christmases when life was led in a more simple way.

I took a 15 year break from reading I started reading again last year and read 24 books. This year I wanted to read 100 books but without disrupting my life too much and still do it with joy. I have surpassed and am at 133. Ranging in all genres. I love classics though and I have a goal to read them all. I read a Christmas carol for the first time and loved!!!!!! It. I love the film adaptation with George c Scott as scrounge. The costuming/set really sold it for me. Incredibly done with attention to detail unlike what we get now. I just found your podcast and I know I have to subscribe for a couple of reasons. Obviously, I'm a book person, so that's number one. But, number two, and very important, is that you love the Muppet Christmas Carol! It's one of the movies I have to watch every year during the Christmas season. It's the best, but to get the entire story, you have to switch back and forth on the DVD to make sure you can see the section with the beautiful and moving song that Belle sings. When Love is Gone. I always cry when Michael Caine joins in at the end. Perfection!

So sorry for your loss! It’s not easy to lose your mother. Thank you for putting out your winter recommendations. I loved Winter Solstice. I read it 2 years ago in December for the first time. Planning on a re read this month. I love stories of found families.

The first book I ever bought for myself was Little Women. I still have it and was gifted a new copy last Christmas 💝 I love reading Rosamunde Pilcher. Winter Soltice made me hungry for sausage 😂

'The Lion,The Witch, and The Wardrobe' was the first book I ever bought for myself. I was 10yrs old. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it,and still own my copy, though it is a little worse for wear. Really enjoying your Literary videos. Thank you, Rosamunde. ❤

I'm so glad you mentioned A Muppet Christmas Carol. THE BEST! It's the one I have to watch every Christmas, for sure :) I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. It's so hard, especially this time of year. Try to enjoy and Merry Christmas to you.

Lovely to find your channel! I am a huge fan of Dickens and love reading all his Christmas books this time of year, as well as his stories. I just finished reading Old Christmas, by Washington Irving, which is great fun and one you would probably enjoy! I read a few books on Krampus and Yule traditions, and Pagan Christmas! I love winter and this time of year! Little Women gets read, at some point, every year. We live near literary Concord and tour the house every year. They have a holiday special in December where they play the parts of the March Sisters and re-enact the Christmas scenes from the novel, as well as play games and sing carols with the tour! Always a wonderful time!

This is the first time your channel has been suggested for me and I am glad the UA-cam algorithms have done so. Such a lovely vlog about books, some of my favorites. Little Women, Narnia, and I am currently reading A Christmas Carol for the first time. I think I read an abridged version as a small child and I've watched numerous movies and even cartoons with the story. I'd like to say that I am so very sorry about the loss of your mother. I lost mine six years ago at Christmas time and it is one of the hardest things I've ever gone through, so I know how much you must be hurting. I will keep you in my prayers. I am subscribed to your channel and hope to have some nice book chats in the coming year.

At times I feel so fortunate, yes, Blessed to read our first books in their original English. I' m glad I hadn't had to learn English first, it might have been a stumbling- block.

This is the first of your videos that has been recommended by UA-cam. I just watched another with books and I think that’s why. So glad they showed this to me because I enjoyed it. I’m very sorry about your mom. My condolences to you and your family. I kept saying (to myself) why hasn’t she talked about Winter Solstice and then, voila, the last book you mentioned. :) I am a huge fan of A Christmas Carol from 1951 (my birth year) with Alastair Sim. I watch it every year and still cry as if I didn’t know how it would all turn out. Thank you for your recommendations. Another pagan soul here…we are celebrating Yule next week. Be well!

Some great recommendations, thank you! I always re-read A Christmas Carol but some new suggestions there. My husband bought some Turkish delight at the weekend and all I think of when I see it is Narnia 😂 I think the TV adaptation from my childhood has seared that into my memory!

Ha ha! I've never been a big fan of Turkish Delight - perhaps because of its association with the witch of Narnia!

My husband and I read aloud to each other most evenings, and in 2020 we chose the Rosamunde Pilcher at Christmas. We chose it for the setting (we have visited and loved Dornoch, which inspired the setting), and what a wonderful story! This year both our young adult children will be home for Christmas, and we’re planning a family reading of Randall Jarrell’s magical little book, The Animal Family. Thanks so much for sharing your love of books! ❤

I remember The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe on Jackanory when I was a child and loving it. I don’t think I’ve actually read it myself though. I usually re read A Christmas Carol every Christmas. Dickens is a master of characterisation and plot. Alistair Sim was brilliant. I usually watch that every Christmas too 😊 I’m sorry about your loss x

What a treat you popped up for the first time on my UA-cam before work, unfortunately. I could watch you all morning. I had to return my Library copy of Winter Solstice Saturday, so was searching shops for it. I couldn't go far yest, not even the large bookstore around the corner! A wonderful selection. I see Kate Mosse everywhere, though didn't know it was Medieval France. I will check out tonite at charity shop at end of my old lane.
