Hi Jeremy! Yes, on some vehicles there is no more embedded navigation as typically embedded Nav requires updates which can be costly and some must be completed by the dealership. By using the smartphone, drivers have access to navigation apps that update frequently and automatically. Keep in mind that Toyota's new multimedia system (as featured on the new Tundra) offers an incredible navigation system that updates automatically- this will soon spread across models. Hi Vic! No need to disable Bluetooth on the phone, the vehicle will often disable it on its own once Apple CarPlay is initiated. You will still receive all your phone calls and text messages through Apple CarPlay, it may just look a little bit different on your screen, as this is an Apple-based software. Bluetooth is not necessary when using this feature as the cord gives the vehicle all of the information it requires to complete the same and often more diverse functions than if it were on a wireless method (Bluetooth). Keep in mind that you will also have access to Siri through the vehicle's microphone system when you are using Apple CarPlay as well, allowing you to send/respond to text messages more efficiently :) Thank you for your inquiries-hope this helps!

Wireless Apple CarPlay became available on the Rav4 in the 2023 models. For 2022 Rav4 you would have to utilize the data transfer cable to connect your Apple CarPlay.
Hi You made your demo so easy for mirroring iphone with car , but for me it has become a challenge . I recently bought Toyota Corolla 2020 2L Ltd which has all the features for mirroring (App Suite settings and MirrorLink) but does not show car play in the head unit. Tried connecting Iphone & Samsung Andriod A71 with both of them updated software with as on date with new lightning cables but it failed. Could you please suggest where i am going wrong. Thanks, Raghubir
Hi Raghubir! Thank you for taking the time to comment. On the 2020 Corolla sedan, you have Apple CarPlay, but not Android Auto. Here are a few tips: - Ensure you are using a DATA TRANSFER CABLE. Some cords are just for charging and will not work with this feature. - Ensure your IPhone is at least an IPhone 5 and the software is up to date. Outdated software tends to wreak havoc on this feature!! - Are you plugging it into the right USB port? It has to be connected to the USB port under the dash to the left of the glovebox. - Is your Apple CarPlay "on"? See beginning on video for instructions on how to do this. - Connect your phone to the USB port and click MENU on your head unit. If the icon that says PROJECTION SETTINGS did not change to say "Apple CarPlay", 99% of the time it is a cord issue. - Are you watching your phone for the initial prompt for Apple CarPlay once the phone is plugged in? Make sure you ALLOW Apple CarPlay to operate on the device. - On your device, go into SETTINGS then GENERAL then CARPLAY. Does your vehicle show up there? Feel free to advise when you have finished troubleshooting these steps :)
Hi Christian, you will still need the cord for the 2022 Camry. Wireless Apple CarPlay is coming on future generations with the new infortainment systems.
The only disadvantage is that we can’t plug a usb at the same time when navigation is working via apple car play. So no song while CarPlay is on. Any ways to overcome this ?
Hi there! Great question- no it does not. Currently in Canada, the 2022 Tundra is the only vehicle with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. However, these features should be pushed across the lineup in upcoming years :) Thanks for your comment!
Pretty sure that same USB port on my 2022 is a dud. No data coming through it. Tried multiple cable on IPhone 12, Note 9, brand new Fold 4. Nothing works with it. Drove Ford and GM for years. GM usually has another data capable port in the center console. I like the Toyota Rav4 for driving, but the tech/convenience features are oddly implemented and limited even on the top of the range package.
My CarPlay audio works perfectly fine with music from Spotify and Apple Music. However, when using Siri, phone, or text, the audio is only (or mostly) coming from the driver’s side. I have tried several fixes online already, but haven’t had any luck. I read something about separate driver/passenger mics on the 2023, is that why?

Hi Aniruddha! Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is only currently available on the 2022 Tundra; therefore, your phone needs to be hardwired to the USB port with a data transfer cable :) hope this helps! thanks for your comment!
From our experience, the newer IPhone's not allowing to connect Apple CarPlay via cable, which is an IPhone issue unfortunately. We did find that an aftermarket wireless adapter (which you can get on Amazon) works around this issue.

From our experience, it is a common issue with the new IPhone's not allowing to connect Apple CarPlay via cable, which is an IPhone issue unfortunately. We did find that an aftermarket wireless adapter (which you can get on Amazon) works around this issue.
If remote start is available for your vehicle, it would only be able to do so via a remote starter, preferably OEM and installed by a Toyota technician, or the Toyota app. Watch our video on this process here: ua-cam.com/video/KGJULs_bhU8/v-deo.html
Best bet would be to buy an Apple cable if you are looking to use Apple CarPlay. Although aftermarket versions will work the most reliable option is the Apple cord.
A little confused, for some reason when connecting in a phone call it doesn’t play through the car speakers but everything else with apple car play seems to do good. Any tips?
I have a 2022 corolla but only the charging port not the carplay port but it shows apple carplay is an option how do i get it to work through bluetooth
A 2022 Corolla should have a port to plug in your phone to use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (at least we know this to be true in Canada). Maybe check the cord you are using … some after market cords do not work well but the cord that came with your phone should work properly in the vehicle so long as you are connecting to the right port. No, you cannot use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay through Bluetooth in a 2022 Corolla.
You can see our tutorial for Android Auto here: ua-cam.com/video/hzYwU1wCsmw/v-deo.html Please know that Android Auto was made available on certain 2019 Toyota models and newer, not all. There are aftermarket options that may help, but Toyota does not recommend aftermarket products as unknown issues may arise.
If you disconnect the chord from the phone, and turn off the projection/apple car play on the vehicle screen, you can start over and follow the video steps again. If your phone still does not allow this, you may need to go to your phone settings the manually allow apple car play to access your phone.
What I don't understand is that if your driving down a road without you phone plugged in the dash will tell you what the speed limit is and change exactly when you pass a sign where the speed changes but... there's no map systems in the car. Well. Then how does it know how fast I can go if it doesn't know where I am?????
The 2020 Corolla only has Apple Car Play. Therefore, instead of projection setting, it will just say apple car play OFF or ON, as she mentions in the video @1:25
Great video I’m having trouble setting up my apple car play on 2020 Toyota Corolla, I have apple 14 pro max, but they don’t come with chargers. The car says it doesn’t recognize this device and usb cord, thinks it’s iPod lol.
The only thing we can recommend is to ensure you are using an Apple cable. Many times aftermarket cables will cause an issue. We have not found any other suggestions which is not surprising given how new the iPhone is.
hi, any updates on the new iphone15s with the usbC cable? i plugged it in to my corolla and NOTHING happens lol..i don't think carplay works now! it tells me to download that toyota app...maybe only wireless carplay works with iphone15s?
The newer IPhones should still connect with Apple CarPlay. Are you using your previous' phone's cable? If so, try using the newer cable that came with your new phone.
Yes, Apple car play allows the use of the radio simultaneously or the use of music applications within apple car play itself. Playing music from within apple car play will require you to have them downloaded on the phone first. Compatible apps would be Spotify, apple music, UA-cam music, amazon music and tidal.
No it is not available on that model. It is coming on the next generation of infotainment systems starting with the 2022 Tundra so I would imagine it will come when the system is updated in future Highlander models.
I am not sure I understand the question. If the vehicle is equipped with Apple CarPlay and you use the Apple cable you can use Apple CarPlay on the multimedia display screen. If I am misunderstanding your question please let me know. Thank you
Didn’t work for us. We have issues getting the Navigation app reconnected once we unplug our phone from the USB chord. Have to turn the car off and back on to get it to recognize our phone again and reconnect to CarPlay.
If all items have been considered (i.e. using data cable, software updates etc.) and it may be best to contact your Toyota dealership, speak and see a technology specialist or service advisor, to best assist you.
As long as the one end that plugs into the vehicle is a USB, and it is data transfer cord as mentioned at 2:08, it should work. If you have a chord that has type c on both ends, you would have to use or get a USB adapter.
I bought a used 2020 Corolla SE and carplay will not work. I am using a brand new Apple usb cord; screen time is not enabled; Siri is turned on; software on my phone is up to date; car software is up to date; Corolla is not visible when I open CarPlay on my phone. I tried reconnecting and connecting cord a few times from both ends. Bluetooth works fine. Car says “searching iPod” when I plug in my iPhone 12. CarPlay works fine in my 2018 Honda Odyssey using same phone and cord.
If you have followed all of the steps and are having an issue I might suggest turning off your Bluetooth (or disconnecting the phone from Bluetooth) to see if it is interfering with Apple CarPlay.
Hi there! Thanks for your question. On most vehicles 2020 and newer, head units are equipped with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Here is the link for the Android Auto tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/hzYwU1wCsmw/v-deo.html
It really depends on the model and year of vehicle you are asking about. You need wireless Apple CarPlay in order to connect without a charging cable. This feature is relatively new and only on certain models at this time.
Just bought a 2022 Corolla Hatchback. Apple Music artists, albums on CarPlay are greyed out when driving so can’t play a song unless I stop the car! Any idea how to fix this issue? I have an iPhone 7 connected. Thx
Hi there! Congrats on the 2022 Hatchback! Yes, this is not uncommon as it is a safety feature from Apple to prevent distracted driving. You can use Siri while connected to Apple CarPlay by either saying 'Hey Siri', by clicking the Siri button on the Apple CarPlay screen, or by clicking and holding the voice command button on your steering wheel. You can use this to make music commands while driving. I know there used to be no way to change the settings so these buttons would not go grey while driving, but I am unsure if they have made any updates. I will have to check! Hope this helps :)

Can you please recommend which cable to purchase. I don’t know which one to get
Best bet would be to buy an Apple cable if you are looking to use Apple CarPlay. Although aftermarket versions will work the most reliable option is the Apple cord.
U are da best
And, also my rav4 doesn’t have projection icon 😢
Apple Car Play became available on the 2019 Rav4
A little confused, for some reason when connecting in a phone call it doesn’t play through the car speakers but everything else with apple car play seems to do good. Any tips?
good job
Im guessing you have to have it plugged into work?
Yes, wireless Apple Car Play only became available with select 2023 Toyota models.
You are star
I haven't finished the video, but how do I do this with Samsung?
You can see our video on how to set up Android Auto here:

So even though my 2019 Toyota Corolla doesn’t have an app button but it does have an update available will I get CarPlay?
Marisela unfortunately no, CarPlay was not introduced in Corolla until 2020 model year so it will not be downloaded by an update.
I don't have option for Android on my 2019 model, is there anyway around it
You can see our tutorial for Android Auto here: ua-cam.com/video/hzYwU1wCsmw/v-deo.html
Please know that Android Auto was made available on certain 2019 Toyota models and newer, not all. There are aftermarket options that may help, but Toyota does not recommend aftermarket products as unknown issues may arise.
On my iPhone I accidentally closed the notification on setting up the apple car play, how would I open up the notification manually
If you disconnect the chord from the phone, and turn off the projection/apple car play on the vehicle screen, you can start over and follow the video steps again. If your phone still does not allow this, you may need to go to your phone settings the manually allow apple car play to access your phone.
After I turned on the apple car play in the settings there’s no projection tab shown in menu. Can I ask what is the problem?
Which model are you asking about?
Why my 2019 rav4 XLE didn't have android car play? It only have apple car play
Android Auto started to become available on the 2020 Rav4.
@belletoyota ok
What I don't understand is that if your driving down a road without you phone plugged in the dash will tell you what the speed limit is and change exactly when you pass a sign where the speed changes but... there's no map systems in the car. Well. Then how does it know how fast I can go if it doesn't know where I am?????
To better understand your concern, what year and model do you have?
But how can I connect wirelessly?
What is the year and model of your vehicle?
2020 Corolla how can I upgrade my screen unit to get projection I just want to mirror my phone onto my car
The 2020 Corolla only has Apple Car Play. Therefore, instead of projection setting, it will just say apple car play OFF or ON, as she mentions in the video @1:25
u sound like amanda bynes
@@belletoyota thx i'll try a different cable.. apple cable is usbC to usbC..i need a usbA to usbC
did it work?, i’m having the same issue
@@Kimaya.33 make sure u use an MFI cable , i think that solved my issues with carplay MFI = made for iphone cables
Will I be able to listen to my music while on Apple CarPlay?
Yes, Apple car play allows the use of the radio simultaneously or the use of music applications within apple car play itself. Playing music from within apple car play will require you to have them downloaded on the phone first. Compatible apps would be Spotify, apple music, UA-cam music, amazon music and tidal.
Thank you!
Is there wireless CarPlay option available on Toyota Highlander 2022 ?
No it is not available on that model. It is coming on the next generation of infotainment systems starting with the 2022 Tundra so I would imagine it will come when the system is updated in future Highlander models.
@@belletoyota Thanks for quick response,
does the 2022 le corolla have wireless apple car play?
Wireless Apple Car Play became available for Corollas in the 2023 models.
How can I put it in the outlet for project if I have. A Apple fast charger
So, it doesnt work with newer iPhones that use USB-C?
So, the Rav4 XLE 2021 doesn’t have wireless Car Play? 😳
Wireless Apple Car Play only became available with select 2023 Toyota models.
Will it work with Android?
Hi there! Thanks for your question. On most vehicles 2020 and newer, head units are equipped with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Here is the link for the Android Auto tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/hzYwU1wCsmw/v-deo.html
Useful video, my only criticism is that the phrase "Apple Car Play" was used a little too often!
Is there a way to have apple car play on without having my phone connected to the charger ?
It really depends on the model and year of vehicle you are asking about. You need wireless Apple CarPlay in order to connect without a charging cable. This feature is relatively new and only on certain models at this time.
I have issue with Microphone nt connecting even though i disconnet battery Rav2021
It's best to contact your local Toyota service department and have a service advisor and technician look at your vehicle.
@@belletoyota yes I know about Siri but I created playlists and that works fine. Apple allows playlists, thank you!
Do you have any videos on updating the firmware/software for the infotainment system?
No we do not have a video series on this question.
Is this only projecting and not save let’s say my txt messages?
That is correct. The system is only projecting your messages when using Apple CarPlay
Amazing thank you so much!
So happy you found it helpful!! Have a great day :)
I have rav 4. I dont know why toyota not using the android system for the car screen since the android is an open source system. Almost of toyota clients wish to buy an external android device to connect with the screen to be as the Android, all people needs a youtube, chrome, contacts and ect..
Hello, Android Auto became available on the 2020 Rav4, here's a link to the video we have on how to Set Up & Initiate on select Toyota vehicles: ua-cam.com/video/hzYwU1wCsmw/v-deo.html
For some reason my car is able to detect my phone but under my phones CarPlay settings it isn’t recognizing the car 😢 can anyone help? I have an iPhone 13
I have the same problem rn but with my 11z a few days ago it just stopped and I didn’t everything to reset and restart and still nothing. I am hoping this is an update issue and the next update apple releases fix this.
Can I install Apple Carplay on Toyota Proace Verso?
I am afraid I am not familiar with this model as it is not one we have in Canada. I am sorry I cannot assist with your question.
Is there a way to make it wireless?
Current versions cannot be upgraded to include wireless capability. This functionality is coming with more recent versions of the Toyota Infotainment systems.
Does this feature work for rav4 2022?
Hi Josh! Yes it does. The 2022 RAV4 has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the set up is the same :)
How come when i connect my apple car play, the volume BLASTS ALL THE WAY UP😭 It’s so loud and i try turning it down on the car and with my phone but it doesn’t work, it just stays at MAX‼️😭 How do i fix this plsss
Try making sure that your phone volume is low before you connect to your vehicle, if this does now work, it's best to contact your local Toyota dealership and speak to a technology specialist, or service team.
@@belletoyota thank you!
Okay but how do i do this wirelessly?
Wireless CarPlay is only available on certain 2023 models. It is coming on more models as their infotainment systems are upgraded.
anyone else get double the answers? sometimes i'll get an echo and it keeps repeating the answer twice..maybe glitch , sorry im talking about android auto lol, i got confused, i haven't tried carplay yet
