I did this last week. I left the car on the ground. You need to really jack up the engine. I needed a 5' breaker bar to loosen the 18mm nut. If you do this, make sure you do one mount at a time. Loosen the 18mm nut slowly do not remove it all the way. If the engine carrier follows the nut all the way down, you need to jack up the engine more to get the weight off the nut. I found the carrier followed the nut down, so had to jack it ~50mm. When you get the new mount in place, do not bolt in place until the square cutout in the carrier mates with the square shape on the main bolt. When the two mate, the engine mount will not twist. If the mount twists, raise the engine until it mates and doesn't twist. Only then should you bolt down the mount and add the 18mm nut. Very happy I did this. Engine now hanging straight.

This was a super video and made the process very easy. When i did it i found i needed to jack up the engine a full couple of inches so the lower bolts on the new mounts would fit through enough to spin on the nuts. In the video it does not look like much of a raise but i found i needed more. i had noticed before i did the installation that the tailpipes were hanging about 2-2.5 inches below the body (and you can see a similar drop in the example car) after installation the motor is higher and i measure just an inch between the tailpipes and the body. My 996 had about 61k miles@ 22 years.

Great job and very well articulated...I am pretty sure my mounts should be changed at 100k and I am at 84k and did replace my transmission mount. This looks pretty easy, thank you!

Thanks for your video I think I will replace my mounts. The only issue I have is you jacked the engine up at the start but at the end of the video you mentioned lowering the engine a couple of inches. What do you mean?
