Now, Sugar Ray isn’t a band that could credibly produce a greatest hits album(though I’m sure they have), have sustainable touring power of their body of work, and Im not personally a listener..but they most definitely were not one hit wonders in an era rife with textbook examples or one hit wonders. Sugar Ray was a big deal for about 5 years after their initial mega hit.

One time at a Pennywise show at house of blues Hollywood (RIP) I was in the pit and I came across a cold bottle of water. I drank some, offered it to others in the pit, after everyone who wanted some water was done I still had a half bottle left, and I wanted to pit again.
I threw it up on stage cause that's what you do at a punk show, it just so happened when Jim was running stage right to stage left mid song it colided with his face, it exploded with water going everywhere. I was so embarrassed. They finished the song then Jim said "I thought everyone here liked us tonight but I guess someone doesn't like us," (everyone in the pit knew it wasn't intentional and laughed at me) he said "whoever did that had some balls and someone should buy him a drink."
A song later I had two beers handed to me by people in the pit. God bless punk rock and their crowds.

I had something similar happen to me at an agnostic front show. I rarely go in the pit, but was pushed hard into it. Some guy was violently swinging his arms, and around the same time I was pushed into the pit, this guys fist just collided with my face. Next thing I knew, I was being picked up off the floor. I didn’t think anything of it, but skinheads all around me were asking me if I was all right. lol. After the song, Vinnie comes on the mic and was like, “jesus!!! You ok kid? Somebody by this guy a beer, I thought he was dead.” I knew it was a small show, but I didn’t think everyone had seen me get clocked. Sure enough, some dude bought me a beer. lol!!

That reminds me of this one punk show I played two years ago, where a straight-edge band brought gallons of milk and threw it at the crowd during the set. Some of the people drank it, then threw it back at the band while the rest threw beer at each other. Later, a random piece of plywood was found and we destroyed just because we could.

I did the same at Lagwagon in Vancouver. The bottle shifted in mid air and hit Joey Cape in the face mid song. He took it like a champ lol. It was funny as fukk. I felt kinda bad as I was aiming for the cymbles.
The smaller the show the stronger the community. There are shitheads in every scene but they seem to get stored out pretty quick in punk rock because those of us in that scene go to a lot more shows.
Getting called out by Sugar Ray has to have been the low point of that dude’s life.

Mark during his anger was not realizing that if he would have just walked past this guy and acted like he didn't exist (which at that time he didn't) he would never existed. But Mark's confrontation gave this guy the 15 minutes everybody is looking for. The kind of 15 minutes that makes you famous or at the least more well known than before. Plus Mark showed himself in a "Negative Light." To your fans you are Mark McGrath, bad boy looks but a great guy and always easy going and laid back. Then your fans get a glimpse of the "Real World" Mark McGrath and find that he is like everybody else and isn't always smiling and nice. Things like this are another reason careers fade. They do anyway and incidents like this don't help. When your an "A" list actor like Will Smith it happens on National High Def TV during the Academy Awards! When your Mark McGrath "D" list singer in a "One Summer Beach Band" it happens on a sidewalk in front of a Restaurant!
