Love Ken Wilber ❤️I've been following his integral meditation from 2019. It's gave a new purpose to my life.
Love Ken and have been reading his material for 20 years. The shadow work is key and in my opinion is the greatest opportunity for growth. As shadow contents are purged and healed, the ego becomes integrated with what Sri Aurobindo called the Psychic Being,or personal evolving Soul. It's important not to skip over or bypass the Soul work. The Soul is who you are. The Spirit is what you are. The 2 aspects must be married and fully integrated.

23:43 - Most people don't know this about Freud, and that is we hear so-called Freudian terms like 'ego' and 'id', but the fact is Freud himself never used the word 'ego' or 'id' ever. Those terms were put in his work by his official translator James Strachey, and Strachey did it because these are Latin terms and he thought it made Freud sound more scientific, if you use those terms. What Freud actually wrote was the German for the 'It' and the 'I' and that's what he would actually write.
28:13 - In fact Freud had already announced that Carl Jung was, and these were Freuds terms, 'my Crown Prince and Successor'. He completely selected Jung as the successor to Freud.
36:47 - This is where we tend to have the earliest defense mechanisms: projection or introjection. So here, because the boundary is so fluid, you can internalize stuff from the exterior world very very easily, and it's very common to introject parental judgements or parental repressions or dissociations, and so that can be a problem, and then also because the boundary is very loose, you can take material that belongs on the inside of the self and you can shove it to the other side of the boundary and that's projection.
43:18 - The only problem with defense mechanisms is they don't really work; and so defense mechanisms bring about that which they were meant to ward off.
So nice to hear Ken an Corey talking about shadow issues. For me, the reintegration of the repressed shadow is the hardest thing to do, and yet it is the only way to be healed and whole again.
And racism is so prevalent here in Slovenia, especialy in the rural area where i live. There are Roma people( gypsys) nearby and many "civilians", as they call us, simply don't like them even do they live here already 700 years. Many racists go to catholic church, but they are not bothered by being racists. No surprise. People even don't like Jews and they never had any experience with them! This is in part the legacy of the catholic church, which for centuries was spreading hate about Jews. And so here we are. Time to practice some serious shadow work!

I hear you. We have our own mix of cultural shadows here in Canada too. I would guess all countries share many of the relative shadows with some variations or unique shadows based on history, religion, geography, etc.
Some brilliant insights, including the concepts of relative and absolute shadow.
It’s great culture, value and almost a scientific religion that can improve our humanity and lead us to peaceful existence.
I see the possibility for the way to personal growth, want to study more

I've long wished he would demonstrate Shadow Work with some of his own material in real time, but no. He has one lame example of how he liked to boss other people around (a long time ago, y'know) and ran a 3-2-1 process on it. Safe distance away.
If you've followed him for any length of time, it comes on us to work with the material and notice how we haven't been able to integrate the quality we perceive in him yet.

The older models and many new ones do not adequately integrate the best understanding of Trauma, so I'm looking for the bleeding edge here. Would like more details about these methods...

This Shadow Material Is Mine, But I Am Not This Shadow Material
In terms of State Work, this is true.
The deepest State discloses the fact that we don't have qualities.
However,
When it comes to Shadow Work, there is this thing where we identify with the quality. Our sense of self is swallowed by it. This is why we usually speak of _being_ hungry/angry/happy/etc. "I Am hungry". It's not a choice. It's a categorical habit of speech and it's a very hard habit to break. We can learn to break the hard ones using State Work.
And we can just look thru our lives and find where we've dissociated to find the examples of the opposite habit. "I Am not angry". This is why he counsels to reverse the claim and actually _say,_ "I Am Angry!"
But these problems - and therefore solutions - are very different and they need distinct language and categories.

just a little correction here ; KEN(見) means 'seeing' and SHO(性) means 'true nature'. I think Mr. Wilber was confused....
