Wouldn’t you say elements of wikileaks is a type of shadow work?
Or journalism in its purest form?
    Gary Stephen Webb?
I would say shadow work is taking place. Definitely we need more good shadow work, but I don’t think it’s impossible, just difficult.

interesting thesis but i don't understand in what way wikileaks is a type of shadow work. For me shadow work has to do with facing your fears and really go through your trauma and pain so that the cleaved part of you can get integrated again to your consciousness.

@@Kamehameha-hj5hw Shadow, as Wilber defines it, are addictions and phobias, many of which are unconscious. Now, collective shadow, are addictions and phobias as well, but I think to understand what that may look like is a bit harder to visualize.
I guess you'd have to understand the perspective of the conspiracy theorist to catch my drift. Of course many conspiracies are just ridiculous, like the earth being flat for instance, but there are conspiracy theories that point to a "going on" that is real (cocaine being shipped from colombia by the cia, the gulf of tonkin incident, cointelpro, etc.) This is what I mean by global shadow. Perhaps one could say that there is an addiction to a certain type of low level power, which causes a sort of unconscious to the public activity, not going through the proper chains of conscious collective action and conscious collective fund appropriation.
Journalism (I mean, good journalism, not the crap that comes out of most media outlets) is the way that collective shadow is brought into the light. Wikileaks is a certain type of journalism, that has brought some darker, more incendiary elements of our collective shadow to light. The most recent one being the foul play within the DNC.
They air out the unconscious elements of our collective doings. Feel me?

@@Ghanzoi get your point but still i think shadow work is the wrong word. Bringing light into the dark like wikileaks does is for sure a good thing but in my opinion not sufficient to become conscious about what is really happening, and it may even cause more shadow. E.g. lets say all the bullshit that is happening on the planet comes to light and everybody on the planet realizes it, what would be the response from the people as a collective? They would point on the government or people above them or whatsoever and blame them for the misery. At first glance they might be even right but what comes out as a result? It would be more hate, more violence and more war or with other words more unconsciousness. People wouldn't realize that the reason why such things are happening is rooted in collective behaviour. These global players are only so strong because we allow it and the only way out of this situation is not to fight them but to realize that the cause for everything that is happening is within ourselves because our decisions are a projection of our inner world. So if you want to maintain shadow work you have to face those parts in yourself which are causing such a harmful behaviour, like you said phobia and addiction for example, which are there to avoid pain. So the solution is to dive into that pain so that there is no need anymore for e.g. the addictive behaviour and with time and practise it'll disappear, this is my understanding of shadow work.

@@Kamehameha-hj5hw Absolutely, addressing ourselves is the answer, raising the consciousness is the answer, addressing our own shadows, of course. But the collective self, although you cannot see it or touch it like you or I, also has two facets like the individual, it is the (collective external) and the (collective internal) using Wilber's quadrants. I think what your saying addresses the collective internal, like, we need to heal the rhetoric, our idea of ourselves and our relationship to each other. But an integral perspective, addresses the external ALSO. On the individual level it might mean working out, or getting a better job, or in terms of shadow, it might mean putting down the booze. You can change your idea of yourself, but if you never make conscious that the booze is a physical addiction, and that the behavior must stop then one can be an enlightened drunk. Journalism brings light to those unconscious parts of the collective self, and it is effective if it finds phobias, or addictions, in our collective external self. Yes people get mad, change is hard, when you need to put down booze it is hard, but it is a growing pain. I mean, a lot of the problems within the collective external would absolutely naturally resolve if the collective internal self is sufficiently healed, but what Wilber shows in some of his writings is that by addressing all of the quadrants at the same time, you get faster more holistic results. If you are sick, check your health, check your relationships, check your behavior, AND check your idea of yourself. I sympathize with your fears, about people getting too ambitious, and trying to tear down the whole thing, but I am not talking about anarchy, I am talking about good journalism, which I think is finding addictions and phobias. Of course doing it in a way that nurtures the change and healing of the addiction/phobia is important too. You wouldn't bring up your shadow at work for instance. Likewise, bringing up the shadow in a public way can be dangerous and self harming. Like, divulging all state secrets would not be a good idea. But if there is a secret that is wrong, bringing into public awareness in a responsible way can be very effective in creating positive change. If someone were being tortured, apologizing can be a stronger public act than making sure no one never found out. It's a balance between being humble and being strong.
