  • Here's my KORG Poly-800 with Atom Smasher's Moog-slayer mod!
    I'm proud to say I'm the first person in the world to honour the "lunchware" agreement for installing the moog-slayer.
    If you have a Poly800 I highly recommend this mod plus the FM and 12/24dB mods as they certainly bring the Poly800 to life.
    Once again, thanks Atom for making my Poly800 better than ever!

    Pretty cool.
    I just found and dusted off my Modded Poly 800 MK1.
    I got it with the Moog Slayer mod already installed (as well as the AUX IN mod).
    When I opened it up to check the workmanship (whoever did it did a great job).
    I ended up doing the FM mod myself as well as the replaceable battery mod.
    It's had a rough life with me...I had to repair the pitch bend controller twice.
    The 1st time I got lucky and it was basically disassembling and reassembling it.
    The second time not so much as I had to "jerry rig" one of the pivot points.
    Now to plug it in and see if it still works...(crosses fingers).

    Awesome sounds! I just uploaded a demo with this synthesizer too. It's an amazing little synthesizer from the 80's. Sam from the machiwoomiapoo channel. :)

    i mobed the fine tune pots to the front panel on one of these over a decade ago. im about to repurchase one, but for the detuning, not the modding

    I just did this mod and the noise control mod to mine. I did it kinda my own way, but I found I don't like the range of the 50k pota for cut off and resonance. Is there a way to turn up rez and cut off all the way on the digi display just completley control with knobs instead?

    so this basically makes it like a moog? is it still polyphonic after the mod?

    • @madFame
      @madFame  6 років тому +4

      Hi there! No, unfortunately it doesn't make it like a Moog. The Poly800 doesn't have any knobs or sliders to control each function so the functions are adjusted entering values using buttons (which is slow and awkward). Although this mod won't give you real-time control over everything it will give you a knob to control the filter and a knob to control the resonance, which makes this synth waaay more fun to use. And yes, it remains polyphonic after the mod is installed.

      @@madFame I'm looking at an ex-800 right now and i'm trying to understand how the midi works.. can I just send cc to the numbers corresponding to each parameter? if so,,, it would be a riot to sequence that with an op-z.

      @@sammiecortese8439 With the EX 800 you can send and receive midi information as it can read sysex, the keyboard version can't receive sysex.

    Does the filter envelope still work after the Moog Slayer mod?

    • @madFame
      @madFame  6 років тому +3

      Hi Nick, yes the filter envelope is still functional. The great thing about this mod is that all original functions are still present. The cutoff and resonance knobs allow manual control while the digital cutoff and resonance parameters determine the range of tone that the knobs will control. This range can be saved per patch too.

      madFame Nice, thank you for answering. I guess I I'm going to owe Atom a video and a lunch if I'm ever in the area(don't think I will, I live in the Netherlands). Just got my Poly-800 yesterday.

    dude u know how to fix the pitch/tuning of the keyboard??? mine is not right

    • @madFame
      @madFame  4 роки тому

      @ART CALENDAR not really man. I'd check the tune slider first to see if that needs cleaning or replacing. If that's not the issue then it might a faulty IC, but I wouldn't know where to start after that.

    I wonder if this mod could be adapted to a dx7?

    • @nitrogen730
      @nitrogen730 7 років тому

      nope

    • @madFame
      @madFame  7 років тому +5

      Hi Eric, as great as this could be it's unlikely. The Poly800 although digitally controlled is analog at heart. The mods here not only have the benefit of filter control already being an existing function but the main PCB has solder points available to accommodate external controls.
      The DX7 generates it's waveforms digitally and doesn't have a filter control as one of it's tone shaping functions. So, there isn't anything for an external control to tap into or control.

    • @sjk254

      I realized that seconds after I posted =]

    • @madFame
      @madFame  7 років тому +4

      Ah, hate it when that happens! t's still a good question I think. Plenty of synths have little access points to features that aren't realized in the final design but the features still exist on the PCBs. Maybe there isn't a filter but there could be something else some clever person will discover.

    • @sjk254
      @sjk254 7 років тому +2

      You could always just get a Moog filter pedal. =]
