- Korg Poly-800 Demo
Here's another demo. This time it's the Korg Poly-800 from the early 80's. I love the sounds in this classic synthesizers. If you add a little reverb and delay it's magical. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe, share, and leave feedback. I'd love to hear your opinions on the Korg Poly-800. Take care and have a wonderful week. Sam.
Machiwoomiapoo, you are like a timemachine for me! Korg poly800 is piece of my heart, it was one of my first synth, 1983/4 i was 15 and bought in a shop in Rome after listening at the helicopter sound. Only two faders, a numerical key, few buttons and a lot of sounds in easy memory and POLYPHONIC!!!
It was years when "digital" was like an "alien" in music, more expensive than analog. i had slept in bed with this synth for many years, writing thousand sounds and music on tape cassette. It was a sad story when my band had to sell all instruments to pay a service and theater after an empty concert.Electronic was not very considered in that years in Italy, people likes rock and coverbands! After, when money come back, i bought his major brother DW8000.
I enjoyed reading your story about this classic synthesizer! I'm going to pin it to the top because I'm sure others would love to read it as well. Take care and go get yourself this synthesizer again. They are very affordable! :) Sam.
Nice demo, Machi. Like duo dualunitorgasm , the Poly 800 is also a very nostalgic synth for me. My parents bought it for me back in 1983/'84 & it was my first "real" synth. (before that I had only department store Casio keyboards) I still have my original Poly 800 but it's beat to hell & barely functional. (& repairing it would cost more than it's value) So last year I picked up an EX-800 off Ebay. I've always love the Poly 800's sound, character & charm.
Thanks for sharing your story! Yes, this synthesizer is great! Take care and enjoy your EX-800. Sam.
it sounds amazing with stomp boxes too. specially chained together. think Wright, Middleton, Zawinul, Hammer, Hancock. Corea, etc............
oh....... and George Duke
Rich envelope generator. Dual sound with time difference, realistic organ and flute, cool design, lightweight, works on batteries, and can be played standing up with the strap! And reasonable! Without a doubt, it was Korg's masterpiece of 1983! It looks cool even now!
It also comes with a 256-step sequencer that is simple and easy to use. It was a godsend for the synth boys of the time!
One of the hidden gems. It can do all the bad sounds that people complain about, but it can also really beautiful stuff. And despite what many believe believe it can go incredibly low and so do awesome bass sounds 😊 Thanks for giving it some love!
So true. Thanks for stopping by! :) Sam.
Just found one in perfect condition for $320. Can't wait. Always been a new synth buyer but this is my first vintage synth.
Enjoy!
Очень красивая демонстрация звуков.Спасибо за проделанную работу! 🤝🤝🤝
Used one in a band in the eighties just bought another one now your sounds are very good cheers
Some great sounds from this vintage Korg synthesizer. Thanks for sharing, Sam ! Have a terrific weekend !
I agree. This little synthesizer is vintage, analog, and still affordable! :) Thanks for watching. You have an awesome weekend too! Sam.
Man, you're a genius. This is what a review on a synthesizer should be. Thanks!
Thank you!
Wonderful... super nice sound... so much you can do with it! very nice Sam...
The Susie Channel You are too kind. Thanks so much. Yes, I too love the sound of the Korg Poly-800.
Some really lovely sounds Sam, very much enjoyed listening and watching you show off this wonderful synth!! Best wishes :-)
Thank you so much! I appreciate your feedback. Take care and have a wonderful weekend. Sam.
Brings back memories. They must have overhauled the patches at some stage. I had one from new, and I remember 12 being a piano and 16 was double basses. But I'm hearing a lot of sounds I remember there.
Thanks for a great demo. I still have mine, I should haul it out and play with it.
@Adam Robinson Thanks for watching. Yeah, I'm not sure which patches were on there. I have the cartridge for it, but I couldn't get it to work. :( Take care, Sam.
It sounds so cool and gorgeous... Keep up the great work.. All the best, Reit :)
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. :)
This synth is great. Factory patches make it sound weaker than it really is. With your own programming you can transform it into a real beast. I have fairly recent demo where it sounds pretty powerful with custom patches.
@Shadow Creek Cool! Yeah, I'm sure it'd sound great with some new patches. :)
now that I look back closely at one of my 'original' first-keyboards of my very early young 80's playin' days... I see the 'resemblance' of the POLY800's FM-style sound choice layout to the later, and more exciting, DX7 in my portfolio - the poor Yamaha CS5 and even older Crumar PERFORMER got no more lovin'.... shame on me! I later took on a MOOG MemoryMoogPLUS, and paired all that with some COMMODORE 64 'music software', but, alas, I moved on to more famous DRUMMING, thereafter....sold all my keyboards at once on a trade=in for PEARL EXPORT SERIES drums, which I did not even yet know how to play.... WHAT WAS I THANKIN' ???????? Oh my... to have some of these great 'keyboards' back!
@turnersinsurance8656 Thanks for your story. Yeah, those synthesizers sound awesome! Take care, Sam.
Hi Sam, I am really surprised about those great sounds, I didn’t expect from that cheap synth. Thanks for sharing!
synthlegends I know. The Poly-800 is a gem. Thanks for stopping by the channel. I appreciate it.
Excellent sounding machine !
Thumbs up & thanks for this great demo though these awesome sounds...
Keep it up with the good work ! ;-))
Thank you! :)
Fully deserved ! ;-))
still sounding great!!!!
marcoballa I agree. Thanks for watching. Take care Sam.
thank you very much for great deming those classic synth sounds
of an classic japanese polysynth.
i guess this was the counterpart of the juno series back then.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching! :)
always a pleasure when visiting your Korg / roland park :-)
It was a cheaper equivalent of the Juno 106. Cheaper, with less polyphony. But it had some really nice sounds. I was using it for bass and such, while our keys player had a juno and a yamaha DX7 midi linked. Between those three we got a lot of sounds.
That was cool man! back in the 80's we'd have killed to have one of those on a strap! ": )
Beautiful synth
I agree. Thanks for stopping by. Sam. :)
Owned a Poly800 up until last year. It was good but just a pain to edit. Although it had MIDI, the sysex wasn't there. But you could load up patches via wav files (which are still floating around the web). It's 'tinny' sound left little to use in a jam but it definitely has a 'quarky' character of its own. Great video!
PingPong85 I'm slowly figuring out how to program it. Thanks for watching. Take care, Sam.
9:56 love that sound
the sequencer is a blast too! Chord memory is fat .This synth is great for a beginner and if you are patient you will get some unique sounds that kill
Klingt Super :)))) fetten Daumen hoch :))) Liebe Grüsse Jürgen
Jürgen Saitonator Thank you. Sehr gut.
Cool demo!!! I like the Poly800. Take care & have a nice weekend. Greetings Matthias
Thanks Matthias. I appreciate it. You take care as well. Sam.
Nice!!
Marco Gamberi Graci
Super Sounds
Thank you! :)
Your intro was dope man!😬
Appreciate it
Thank you for your nice comment on my channel. Keep up the good work!
My pleasure! Take care, Sam.
That has some great sounds, can be found pretty cheap for under $500
Agreed.
DOOOOOOD. wheres my studio
Some cool sounds in there considering they sell for £200.
Imagine it's difficult to program without individual sliders?
Alex Ball It's pretty easy to program, but it definitely takes more time than my older synthesizers. Thanks for watching. Take care, Sam.
it takes lot's of time to understand the programation (especially the weird but awesome envelopes) but once you know how to do it, it's really simple ; with clever programation this synth (the mark1) can do really really great sound ; with bad programation it can sounds aweful tho; but that's my favourite synth, it's sounds unique and the analog chorus of the Mark1 makes it just wonderful ! it's not entierly analog so if you blend it with analog synth it takes his own place in the mix, a place that nobody else will take ; keep in mind this synth require lot's of time and lot's of love ; but it deserves it
Delightful sounds of the 80's. Favorites @ 7.13 and 8:05.
Just out of curiosity, how big is your synth collection, Sam ?
George Sundancer I have a few more synthesizers. I'm making demos for each one. Enjoy! And thanks for watching.
Is it possible to take the delay off of the factory patches? There's one I'm looking to buy at my local guitar shop!
@damiandoyle2030 Yes, I believe so.
👍👍👍
Thank you!
6:44 - part of the 'day of the dead' soundtrack by composer john harrison!
I just watched it lately. It wasn't on purpose. :) Take care, Sam
I had one! But I couldn't get over it not putting out sound in stereo.
I guess the Prophet 5 and DX7 are worthless then.
@Victor Oro I usually just put a ping delay on it and some chorus and it sounds super lush as any other synthesizer. The pedals are where the magic takes place. Take care, Sam.
R u sure those are factory patches mine are different mine may have custom ones on idk
I'm not sure. I think so. Take care, Sam.
@@machiwoomiapoo Sam?
@@mitzi856 Yes, that's my name. :) Later, Sam.
Hi, are these the factory presets?
Yes. Thank for watching! :)
What is best this or dx7?
Both are wonderful and have their own unique sound. I'm going to be no help here. I like both. Take care, Sam.
Does this synth play good live? And does it plug into an amp to play or can it play on its own?
I think so. You'll need an amp for it though. Take care, Sam.
yes, good live. Start/requires headphones or the best way in my op a mixer , and some extra cables , and some nearfeild multi media monitors. Do You still have a Poly 800?
also lots of outboard effects processors
slightly annoyed voice 77 got 5 seconds of play time :(
Sorry. Thanks for listening. :)
It's soooooooooooooo ugly, but sounds legit.
Yeah, but I like the sounds. :) Take care, Sam.
