I love you two, Your take on the music/trends of the time of my youth is priceless. Keep listening and having an open mind toward everything in life. It all will come back or never go out of style.
I was a kid in the 80's. The 80's was nothing but hustle Hustle HUSTLE all the time. Everyone was always doing something. Everyone was always alive. You never saw anyone sitting around doing nothing looking sad while getting fat. Outdoor activities was way more active in those days, like Arcades, movie theaters, park events. A lot of people worked out in those days because the popular celebs in those days were all physically fit, like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sly Stallone, Olivia Newton John, Prince, Sheena Easton and many more. Celebs like Seth Rogen and Lizzo would have never been top stars in the 80's because obesity and out of shape was looked down on.
I was a young adult in the 80's and just worked out and partied and my focus was on rock and chicks. It was fun and crazy. Obviously Whitesnake's guitarist took notes from Jimmy Page with the violin bow on guitar and curious how Coverdale did a project with Page later in kind of a lukewarm collaboration. Still of the Night was a tune you just had to turn up. I think the chick in the video was Tawny Kitaen, his short term wife who "made the rounds" in the music scene... in her prime she was a hot commodity.
Even though this song (and especially the video) are super dated - I still love it just as much as I did when my friends older sister gave me a dubbed copy on cassette. Those strings still give me goosebumps when they come in.
Love love LOVE this song, especially the violin strumming guitar, the part that follows "oooh, baby, need you closer". The rhythm, yeah, perfect for "things".
Yep, The 80's were amazingly fun! Check out her live version of Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused to see where the violin bow on a guitar came from. They were a big influence on Whitesnake.
Coverdale sang in deep purple when he was in his early 20's. You should react to dp's Burn from California jam. The other purple vocalist/bassist was in a band called Black Country Communion you may want to hear also. "Glenn Hughes"
there was sort of a Led Zeppelin revival in the mid late 80s. David Coverdale was oft accused of copying Robert plant, and the violin bow was an homage to Jimmy Page. There was also a band named "Kingdom Come" that sounded like Led Zeppelin, also "Bonham" sounded like LZ...but it was all good stuff and I hope you explore it all...love your channel guys
I grew up in the eighties. Graduated in the eighties. Big hair rock? That was huge. The 80s dance music like cool in the gang etc. that were great they also had a lot of what we called new wave. Tears for Fears, simple minds. I loved the 80s it was a great time. Never heard all the gender and race etc. etc. etc. I thought everybody got along very well myself
"It sounds metalish." Umm, yeah, because it's hair metal/hard rock. The 1987 self-titled album, that also goes by simply '1987' today, was a departure from their earlier albums. Instead of just lighter Mello Rock, It got more guitar heavy this song was sort of instrumental (no pun intended) in where hard rock went after this. Another band Dokken, also kicked it up a notch with their 1987 album "Back for the Attack." But as for the 80s, yeah, it was a great time for music especially 1985 onward. That's when several Thrash Metal bands debuted and started taking things up to Level 11 as they say. I'm a little younger than some of the other posters here, as I graduated in '91, so I caught the tail end of the Golden Age of 80s Metal during my High School years. But here's what's great about what happened in the 80s with music. The 80s were coming off a decade that saw Disco as the most popular music. Yeah, there were a few rock bands like Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, KISS, Molly Hatchet, Nazareth, Black Sabbath, and Boston, but in the end, the 80s saw a totally different style of rock music. The rhythms got more complex, the solos became a staple, and vocals and lyrical content got a bit darker (with Thrash and Death Metal). It was a truly awesome time to see how quickly rock and Metal had changed from 70s Rock to Heavy Metal in the 80s. And even though Metal kind of took about a 5 or 6 year hiatus in the 90s, it's been going strong ever since like 97 or 98. And actually it never went on hiatus, it's just that before the Internet, UA-cam, and places like Amazon to buy your music, it was hard to find your favorite bands. And it's funny, many popular bands in the 80s did break up in the 90s, but later reformed post-2000 because Metal became popular again. Many dud reform, but sadly many did not. Most of the hair metal bands did not. That style of music just fell out of favor, and that's possibly a good thing, however, I feel that Power Metal that did exist in the 80s with bands like Helloween, was the evolution of Hair Metal to some extent. Power Metal really got started in the early 90s in the Metal Underground, but really started coming on to its own in the late 90s, and today is probably the most popular genre of Metal outside of the Death Metal fanbase.

It is actually Don Airey playing a synth patch of a cello 👍🏻 cool pantomime though
Whitesnakes 87 album is probably the best hair metal album of all time it’s close no doubt
🙋Who else thought Tawny Kitaen was the hottest thing on the planet when this came out?😍😭🤪
RIP TK
@@TANTRUMGASM didn't know that. Another legend gone
i lived it i know 80s WAS THE BEST TO BE A TEEN with cool 90s to the half
Love Ain't For Stanger's is another rocker that must be listened to at least volume 8 but 10 is better!
This was pretty much a staple song for ANYONE who listened to heavy metal back in the 80s.
Lex, there's was more metal in the 80's than there was in the 90's. The 90's had garbage
"Grunge" grunge was not metal!!!!
I agree 80s the best era for music and movies , growing up in that era my junior, and highschool days, and so much more
I went from Big Hair to Progressive ... skipped Grunge!
I was listening to death metal in the 90s
I love you two, Your take on the music/trends of the time of my youth is priceless. Keep listening and having an open mind toward everything in life. It all will come back or never go out of style.
This is probably my favorite song of all time!
I believe Jimmy Page from Zeppelin was the first to use the violin bow. Check out their live version of Dazed and Confused
RIP Tawney we loved you and lasted after you throughout our teenage years and we will never forget you Whitesnake one of the great 80s bands
Both of you would have loved and fit into the 80's so much!!!!! Great decade for music, movies.....everything.
Yes the 80's were more than fun, best decade ever.
One of the BEST metal songs of the 80's. Awesome.
Even the concerts & night clubs were different back then. It was head banging! Wish you would of seen it Lex! And yes, Gun's N Roses were sam era!!
Lex probably has the greatest analogies in the history of mankind. The way she compares things just blows me away.
The 80's were extremely fun! And great music!
No violin strumming Just a pedal effect in a normal guitar
@@marceloprada3558 Very cool. Thanks for letting me know.
Yep, The 80's were amazingly fun! Check out her live version of Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused to see where the violin bow on a guitar came from. They were a big influence on Whitesnake.
Yeah, 80s were fun. So nice to share. much love and respect.
David Coverdale vocals are amazing and extraordinary rock on
Coverdale sang in deep purple when he was in his early 20's.
Loved Whitesnake when I was in middle school.
I lived through the ‘80’s. This was the time to be alive. No one will ever have that much fun again. It was magical. Wish I could go back 30 years. ☹️
Two of the best metal guitarists to ever live... Adrian and Vivian.... wow. Paired with his voice.... Whitesnake was bomb...
None of them played in this record though…
I grew up in the eighties. Graduated in the eighties. Big hair rock? That was huge. The 80s dance music like cool in the gang etc. that were great they also had a lot of what we called new wave. Tears for Fears, simple minds. I loved the 80s it was a great time. Never heard all the gender and race etc. etc. etc. I thought everybody got along very well myself
listening to Lex describe music in her own words is inspiring. I smell sounds. Her ear is astounding.
The 80's rocked!! It was a great freakin time!! Totally wild for sure!!
Another band Dokken, also kicked it up a notch with their 1987 album "Back for the Attack."
But as for the 80s, yeah, it was a great time for music especially 1985 onward.
One of the best rock songs EVER. It has it all.
